Teamwork makes the dream work?
Pjtaylor-96-13804411 November 2022
'Sonic Drone Home (2022)' is a short film found on the blu-ray of 'Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (2022)'. It's a sequel of sorts, a one-shot adventure that represents the first true team-up between the blue, yellow and red trio since their triumph at the end of the latter's theatrical debut. As part of the clean-up following their fight with Dr. Eggman, Sonic and company come across a lone drone that has gained some form of sentience in the absence of its creator. The piece is a marked visual step down from the feature it's spun off from, looking more like a (big-budget) television episode than a film. That's to be expected, though, and it doesn't ruin the thing's effect. Neither does the fact that at least some of the voice actors obviously elected not to return for this, as their replacements do admirable enough work and convey the characters convincingly despite primarily attempting to impersonate their higher-paid counterparts. The short is simple and to the point, remaining rather enjoyable for its duration. It isn't great, but it's a solid side story that keeps you engaged throughout.

Neat Short, Even With VA Chanegs
jeremycrimsonfox29 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Released as an exclusive to Sonic 2's digital release (although it may also wind up on home releases), Sonic Drone Home is a short that follows Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles as they return library books (or sacred tones, as Knuckles calls them) so Maddie won't get late fees. However, Sonic takes the two on a detour to Green Hill Junkyard after hearing news about strange noises going on from Wade, and the three find one of Robotnik's drones using the various junk and scrap to upgrade itself.

It's a neat short, as it has Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles fighting a Robotnik drone, and is actually more of a display on how comedic Knuckles can be when it comes to understanding the world he is now a part of. However, one of the main differences is the voice acting, as while Ben Schwartz is back as Sonic's voice, Tails and Knuckles are recast, and while Alicyn Packard does a good job as Tails, Knuckles is voiced in this short by Fred Tatasciore, who while he does a good with the lines (especially the imfamous Knuckle sandwich line), his voice sounds a bit deep compared to Idris Elba's amazing voice (and could possibly confuse younger viewers until they see the credits to see it's not the same VA as the movie), but Fred still does a good job. With a good story, and some witty comedy, this short is worth checking out if you like the Sonic movies.

It's Cute, and greatly appreciated!

Goes into the (for me) dreaded Robotnik's silly speaking robots territory, but for a short, all right, why not. Keep it out of the big movies though, ple-e-e-ease. Or do it very well. Didn't think i'm gonna like this "they are essentially just kids yet" approach a lot at the beginning, but it's growing on me. It is fully animated although hard to tell sometimes, so they couldn't slip in someone's wedding, even if i know they very much wanted to. A handful of these are great to keep the iron hot till a new movie comes, well done!
