Rachel Zelger is taking it to the critics of her new Snow White film and she’s not holding back!
Disney’s live-action adaptations have been a big thing for the company in the last decade, even if the last few efforts have been so-so. Yet few have been talked about like the upcoming Snow White. Remaking the first Disney animated feature that began it all is a daring move, even if the Snow White myth has been adapted countless times before and since.
However, there has been a serious backlash against the film, starting with the casting of Rachel Zegler as Snow. The actress is of Colombian descent and thus does not quite match the classic heroine. There were also complaints about her age or singing ability. Then on-set photos of supposedly a diverse cast of dwarves caused further outrage.
Then the trailer hit and was quickly derided for...

“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” debuted with 2.7 billion minutes watched in its first full week of availability on Netflix, easily landing on top of Luminate’s weekly ranking of streaming original viewership. The Ryan Murphy series was nearly three times above the next-most-watched title of the week: “The Perfect Couple,” which hit 916.4 million minutes watched in its third full week of availability.
There was another large drop-off between second place and third place, with “Tulsa King” Season 2 accruing 916.4 million minutes watched in the week of the release of its second episode. Next was a tie: “Emily in Paris” Season 4 in the second full week of availability of Part 2, and “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2 in the first full week of availability of its sixth episode and the first day of availability of its seventh episode. Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker know their Descendants tunes. They proved as much in the exclusive TV Insider video above, as we tested their knowledge on song lyrics from across the franchise’s films to see if they could name that tune. The stars of the franchise’s fourth installment, Descendants: The Rise of Red, came to the TV Insider studio this summer to give a glimpse into their new movie, available to stream now on Disney+. And the pair was all smiles as they sang their way through their fictional universe’s memory lane. Descendants: The Rise of Red stars Cantrall as Red, daughter of the Queen of Hearts (played by Rita Ora), and Baker as Chloe, daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming. The girls team up to save the kingdom of Auradon by traveling back in time using the White Rabbit’s pocket watch to stop an event that would cause grave consequences.

Anime, in my eyes, will always be a great connector. When you meet someone you look up to, find a creator you vibe with, or even a stranger, as an anime fan there is this giddy feeling you get when you realize that person also loves anime. It’s even better when you share the same favorite series. When the Instagram algorithm first showed me Lorena Abreu, known as Lorenaparkour online, it was her Dominican Dora videos teaching viewers how to speak Dominican Spanish (I listen to a lot of DemBow in my free time). I was instantly hooked. Looking for more slang videos, I discovered Lorena who is a talented stunt performer and loves anime. Often incorporating her stunt skills and incredible strength into cosplay, seeing Lorena’s flips, flags , and immaculate dance moves while dressed as Inosuke from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba , Rebecca from Cyberpunk Edgerunners , or...

Most people who watched Peacock in the week of July 22-28 were watching the Olympics — but two other shows on the NBCUniversal streamer also had a pretty good week.
The swords-and-sandals drama Those About to Die moved into the top 10 original series for the week (it premiered on July 18), likely with an assist from heavy promotion during NBCUniversal’s Olympics telecasts. The series recorded 399 million minutes of viewing time for the week.
Love Island also stayed strong in the week after its July 21 season finale. Though it came down from two straight weeks above a billion minutes, the show’s 724 million minutes of viewing (including earlier seasons on Hulu and Netflix) is very strong for an unscripted series not showing any new episodes during the measured week.

One of the upcoming horror movies to be on the lookout for is the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot, also known as the legacy sequel. Over the past couple of months, we've been learning a lot of new information about this highly anticipated film, such as who's going to be in it, where it'll fall in the I Know What You Did Last Summer universe, the official release date, and if any original cast members will be returning.
While plot details are still being kept close to the chest, what we do know is that Camila Mendes, Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks), Sarah Pidgeon (Lazareth), Tyriq Withers (Atlanta), and Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid) are set to star and Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. are in discussions to return. We also know that this film won't ignore the events of the 1998 sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,...

As the film Descendants: The Rise of Red begins, a royal decree is issued, stipulating that Auradon Prep, the elite boarding school for Walt Disney’s classic characters, would welcome a new class of Vk’s — villains’ kids, or the offspring of Disney’s most nefarious antiheroes. Admission letters were sent off with the flourish of a wand and the Descendants franchise began a new journey.
The coming-of-age Descendants films have been tentpoles of the Disney Channel since 2015, when the first Descendants won over children and tweens. The two sequels, Descendants 2: It’s Going Down (2017) and Descendants 3 (2019), did equally well, each becoming the most watched TV movie among ages 6-14 when it premiered. House of the Dragon aired its season 2 finale back on August 4, and despite some misgivings among fans, it was a ratings hit. That's according to The Wrap Report, which measures streaming and linear TV viewing according to "viewership trends collected from Samba TV's panel of more than 3 million households, balanced to the U.S. Censes." These ratings might not be quite as unimpeachable as Nielsen ratings, but they still give us a good idea of what people are watching. What can we find at the end of the dragon’s tail? More dragons, apparently. After airing its season 2 finale on August 4, “House of the Dragon” was still the most-watched streaming program on the Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report for the week of Aug. 5-11, as viewers caught up on the season.
Even in a week during which it did not release a new episode, “Dragon” bested this week’s big streaming series debut, “The Umbrella Academy” Season 4. Netflix added the six-episode season on Aug. 8 and drew enough households to place the series at No. 6 this week. The first episode of Season 4 was seen by 559,000 U.S. households during the first four days it was available.
Oddly, “Umbrella Academy” wasn’t the most noteworthy addition to the Netflix library. Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher films were recently added to the streamer and made the Top 10 this week. “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back,...

The Boys ascended to its highest mark ever in Nielsen’s streaming rankings for the week of its fourth season finale, and Netflix’s movie Hillbilly Elegy had a resurgence after Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance — whose memoir is the source material for the film — became the Republican nominee for vice president.
The Boys recorded 1.33 billion minutes of viewing time on Prime Video for the week of July 15-21, finishing first among all titles in Nielsen’s rankings for the first time (the season four finale debuted July 18). How ‘The Rise of Red’ Star Kylie Cantrall Became the ‘Descendants’ Franchise’s First Title Character
It’s not a stretch to say that Kylie Cantrall was born to be a Disney princess. The Descendants: The Rise of Red star made it clear to her artistic parents at the age of two that she was a natural performer, and that innate ability soon took shape in the form of dancing, singing, songwriting and acting. At the same time, Cantrall also developed a deep affection for Disney and all its programming that featured young trailblazing performers such as Zendaya, Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus. At 8 years old, the L.A. native turned that affinity into a YouTube series called Hello Kylie where she reviewed Disney Channel shows and covered the music of its young stars.
A few years later, Cantrall started auditioning for various roles around town, but she couldn’t shake the fact that the Disney trajectory was the ideal course for her.

Overall streaming numbers for July 8-14 came down a fair amount from the record-breaking previous week. HBO’s House of the Dragon, however, was virtually even with its prior viewing total — which was good enough to move it to the top spot for the first time.
House of the Dragon amassed 1.27 billion minutes of viewing on Max (not including viewing on HBO’s cable channels), just a smidge below the 1.3 billion it had the week before. With the two titles ahead of it the previous week, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F and Suits, each falling by significant amounts, the HBO show moved up to No. 1.
Suits fell by 28 percent week-to-week to 1.07 billion minutes of viewing on Netflix and Peacock, which was good for third place overall, slightly behind Bluey (1.08 billion minutes on Disney+) and just ahead of The Boys (1.05 billion for Prime Video), which had its fifth consecutive week over the billion-minute mark.

On the film side, Netflix’s rom com “Find Me Falling” topped the chart for a second straight week. Spanish-language entry “Non Negotiable” was a sleeper success in its first week on Netflix.

Everything seems to be coming together nicely for the highly anticipated I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot, which is also being called a legacy sequel. Recently, we learned that the new movie will not erase the events that happened in the 1998 sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. Of course, this prompted fans to immediately start speculating if any actors from that movie could be reprising their roles in the legacy sequel.
Seeing as though the two main leads, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr., are already in talks to return, the only other actor from that film who could possibly come back would be Brandy Norwood. Besides, Hewitt and Prinze Jr.'s characters, Brandy's Karla character is the only other survivor at the end of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.

Zendaya, now a major star in blockbuster film franchises and acclaimed television, once came close to joining the popular Disney Channel franchise ‘Descendants’ years ago after auditioning multiple times, according to a former executive at the company. The ‘Descendants’ films, which debuted in 2015 and focus on the teenage children of classic Disney villains, have since spawned multiple sequels and spin-offs airing on Disney Channel and Disney+. The franchise’s latest installment, ‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’, was released last month exclusively on Disney+.
Speaking on the podcast ‘Magical Rewind’, hosted by former Disney Channel stars Will Friedle and Sabrina Bryan, Cornelia Frame, Disney Channel’s former Vice President of Casting and Talent Relations, revealed details of Zendaya’s numerous auditions for roles in ‘Descendants’. “Zendaya did audition many times for ‘Descendants’, and that was a big deal. She auditioned over and over and really wanted it,” said Frame. At the time,...

Before starring in blockbusters, Zendaya could have almost been part of Disney Channel’s Descendants franchise at one point.
In a recent interview on the Magical Rewind podcast, Cornelia Frame, the former vp casting and talent relations at the network, revealed the Emmy winner actually auditioned multiple times for the musical fantasy television film.
“Zendaya did audition many times for Descendants, and that was a big deal,” she recalled to hosts Will Friedle (Boy Meets World) and Sabrina Bryan (The Cheetah Girls). “It was a really big deal. She auditioned over and over and really wanted it. It just ended up not going her way.”
The Descendants franchise centers on the teenage children of classic Disney villains, including Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Jafar and Cruella de Vil. The first film premiered in 2015, with two sequels debuting in 2017 and 2019. And the spinoff Descendants: The Rise of Red dropped on Disney+ earlier this month.

Brandy apparently did not know what Sony Pictures is doing next summer.
During a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter to promote Disney Channel’s latest Descendants sequel, the star was asked about Sony’s I Know What You Did Last Summer movie reboot that is coming in hot with a theatrical release date set for July 18, 2025. Brandy emphasized that she had not heard about the new project but would want to return as Karla Wilson, the character she played in the 1998 sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.
“I didn’t know Sony was putting that together,” Brandy tells THR of the new film. “That’s interesting!”
When asked if she might be pulling a fast one in order to maintain secrecy about her potential appearance, Brandy maintained that she was indeed in the dark. “I’m not pulling a fast one on you,” she said. “I did not know that.

Exclusive: Descendants: The Rise of Red broke a record in its debut on Disney+.
With 6.7M views in its first three days of streaming, the film is now Disney Branded Television’s most-viewed Dcom premiere ever on the streamer, according to Disney.
This is a fairly big number for any Disney+ release, though it’s difficult to compare directly with other titles, as the streamer has been inconsistent with the viewership data that it reports. Earlier this year, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour film debuted to 4.6M views in three days.
When Percy Jackson and the Olympians debuted in December, Disney+ announced that series’ six-day viewership tally. In June, Disney released one-day viewership data for The Acolyte, which was around 4.8M views. The streamer later circulated a five-day viewership total for that premiere. Rita Ora was told to stop apologising by Brandy on the set of ‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’ set.The 33-year-old pop star - who plays the Queen of Hearts in the upcoming Disney+ flick - revealed she struggled to pretend to be rude to the 45-year-old singer, who will be reprising her role of Cinderella after debuting as the character in the 1997 eponymous flick, because she idolised her growing up. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Rita said: “I would be like, ‘I’m so sorry, I don't mean it’, and Brandy’s like, ‘Can you stop? You are in character, do what you need to do.’“And I was like, ‘But just remember, I love you!’ And then we’d get back into it. It was great.”The ‘Anywhere’ hitmaker gushed over working with Brandy, and emphasised the actress’ portrayal of the beloved princess in ‘Cinderella’ “made [her] believe” in herself.

Rita Ora recieved some valuable advice from Brandy, one queen to another, on their new Disney+ movie.
The You & I artist explained why the Cinderella (1997) star told her to “stop” apologizing on the set of Descendants: The Rise of Red, which is now available to stream on Disney+ ahead of its August 9 Disney Channel premiere.
She recalled filming an “iconic” coup scene in which her Queen of Hearts character takes Brandy’s Cinderella as a hostage. “‘Off with her head!’ It’s a very iconic quote for Queen of Hearts, and I was trying to find my version of that,” Ora told Entertainment Weekly.
But Ora found it difficult pretending to be mean to the Moesha alum, whom she “would try and imitate every day in my bedroom” as a kid.
“Every scene after that, I would be like, ‘I’m so sorry, I don’t mean it,'” she added.

I watched the Descendants trilogy for the first time as a fully grown adult this week. As a Disney baby, I’ve always enjoyed the wholesome musicals that are equal parts cringe and charm. A quick reminder: Descendants is a series of films that tells the story of the kids of popular Disney characters; specifically, it’s about villain kids and how they deserve a second chance because everyone has a touch of good in them. In The Rise of Red, we see Alice in Wonderland’s “Queen of Hearts” get a redemption arc. She’s certainly one of the most malevolent Disney villains of all time, and not hearing “off with their heads” anymore from her will certainly feel odd. But, to get to the heart of this story, let’s quickly recap the important details and explore Descendants: The Rise of Red‘s ending.

Disney’s live-action movies excel when it comes to lighthearted teenage dramas and musicals, which is why it was the best medium for the continuation of their most popular IPs, the lore of the princesses. Unlike the live-action adaptations of the princess movies, the Descendants franchise, which focuses on the adventures of the children of classic Disney princess characters, has been received quite positively. However, the focus remains primarily on the children of the villainous characters, as the key running motif in the three movies released so far is to highlight the familiar resolution that children shouldn’t be burdened with the sins of their parents; they have their own identity, which shouldn’t be generalized as such. While the campy narratives, funky characterization, and out-of-date humor might not be everyone’s cup of tea, the strong social messages conveyed by each of the movies have a lasting impact on children and adults alike.
