So morally wrong!
lilievitra22 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
If i could give this a Zero, i would but i can't. I am so very appalled with the message behind this story. There will be spoilers here. So this is the story of a guy who says he is in love with his girlfriend. He so decides that he wants to marry her. Yet it is implied in the movie through his best friend's speech, that parts of him is interested by just more than his love for her. His new to be wife has grand parents who owns a very successful family restaurant. And by marrying her, he sees this as an opportunity to franchise the restaurant. At this point, the viewer has the feeling that the wife is going to be used. But it is mislead. Apparently his conversion to her religion is supposedly enough to make us believe that he loves her. Even though the director shows in a very light manner his conversion to Jewish as it was a bit of a joke to the hero. He can't even seem to remember the name of Jew documents. Nevertheless he signs a pre-nuptial agreement. without reading the content. Then the plot moves towards his ambition for his career. He has the plan to franchise the family restaurant but he needs to convince a potential buyer to invest in the franchise. Unfortunately this rich buyer is going on a golf holiday for 10 days so she can't sign the deal until she returns. The main character sees this as a challenge. He is certain that this buyer is giving him an implicit go. He just needs to join her in this golf holiday. So his 2 associates hesitate because he is so flicky but then finally agrees to let him go alone. Apparently his partners do not have much too lose. The dialogue is not very convincing at all around this point. As surprising as this sounds, his wife even agrees with it and gives her credit card. So out he goes to spend his wife's money to convince this buyer. This buyer happens to be very pretty. And his ex girlfriend. She still likes him, he still likes her. How very convenient. So he gets to have a luxurious time out and on top of it, sex with her on his wife's credit card. What starts to bother me is that this movie is sending the message that this is okay for a man to act like a kid on his wife money and partners trust. While his associates get none of this special holiday treatment. Then our "hero" realises he doesn't love his wife. So just like that, He decides to write her an email. Saying how sorry he is. And again, just like that, he wants a divorce. But his wife doesn't want a divorce. So he cries on the shoulder of his new girlfriend. Finally the cherry on the cake that really got my goat: The only way he can get the divorce in the pre nuptial agreement is by re-inviting all the people who were present at the wedding and explains why he wants a divorce. His new girlfriend is in the audience waiting for him to "be finally free". Through all this transition of getting all the invite, we see that she is there writing the invitation with her and on the very day that he is supposed to get his divorce, right in front of all the invites, without any respect for her, we got to hear that he has changed his "mind" yet again, like a kid and that he actually still loves his wife! And just like that, his new girlfriend is sent back to "being thrown away like an old tissue". In front of all the invitees, he re-affirms his vows to re-marry his wife. A whisper "i am sorry" across the room to his new girlfriend is all the poor woman gets. But She absolutely understands this and smiles her approval to his choice!! So again this man gets to get away with this "last minute change of heart". His new wife says yes. His old girlfriend sends him a kiss and this is meant to be a realistic story? The message this is sending is that clearly no matter how wrong a man does, he will get to have a wife or a girlfriend to support and trust him. and he never gets to feel the consequences of his actions. I find this ethically wrong on so many levels i can't hardly believe nothing has been mentioned as a thread. What a waste of my time that was!

This is not a good movie
cliff31420 May 2013
You know how sometimes you are watching a movie and you are wondering, how did someone involved with the production not see that there are significant shortcomings. This is one such movie. The cast isn't all bad, Elliott Gould is excellent of course, Lainie Kazan has seen better days, Nadia Bjorlin has something weird going on with her eyes (apparently she is from Days of our Lives), Maeve Quinlan and Robin Riker (both from The Bold and The Beautiful according to IMDb) look and act like soapie actors.

Jonathan Bennett in the lead as Michael is all over the place. Andrea Bowen (Julie from Desperate Housewives) is quite good, and Keith Robinson as Michael's best friend is probably the best in the movie. The wonderful Richard Kind has a very small but good part. I should mention Jamie-Lynn Sigler, she is very good, but her character is not likable, and the presentation she is giving early in the movie in a college lecture room is ridiculously banal. Embarrassingly so.

Stuff just doesn't make sense, the internal logic (even for a rom-com, and we like rom-coms) is in tatters, and the script is very poor indeed. On the plus side, the movie is well shot - at least it looks professional.

But, it just isn't any good. I can only give it 2/10.

I hate Mike for putting his wife through trauma
majedtm17 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I hate Mike for putting his wife through trauma during her pregnancy and equally giving hopes to Alex that she is the one for him since long years... What a bastard that he couldn't take any of his relation seriously....neither Alex forced him nor did his wife was a typical nagging wife with whom he had a bad marriage happening then why the hell such a bad decision. For guys like this not just marriage but relationships too are just a passing cloud...what do you guys think...I know it's a movie and I enjoyed the story as well but in reality what do you guys think of such a jerk or overall situation. This movie is pretty dumb, but if you think about it, life is unfair, you don't get what you want.

Very Bad Taste
Greatornot1 June 2019
I could not get past the anti-Semitism. This was a joke, even from the first scene where a supposed Jewish customer is bragging about a big tip and then the main character actually not taking the tip. I am surprised seasoned Jewish actors like Lainie Kazan and Eliot Gould would submit to this travesty. Simply horrible and other than wasted acting, the movie was a hate filled film against Judaism.

Illogical and underwhelming
Made_Of_Amethyst19 January 2017
Didn't expect much. Met my expectations. Wish they would've focused on the plot and the logical outcomes, especially in terms of psychological patterns etc. The characters are not nearly complex enough to possibly let them be a reflection on real life. Also there's a vast amount of cringe-worthy moments - might be funny to other people, but for me it was just a waste of precious time. I'd honestly say it's actually too annoying to even watch when bored. Or tired. Or sleeping. At this point It makes me wonder: 'What were they thinking while making this movie?' Well, obviously not much. But hey, if you're into that kinda stuff - you do you!

What did I just watch?
sesse_m9 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Warning - spoilers!

I wish I could give it a zero... First of all this movie has no drama, the story just unfolds, even the part about the divorce ceremony, which could have been interesting, is just a series of shots that make little sense and lasts about 10 minutes.

Then the ending. This guy acts on a whim, leaves his pregnant wife, organizes a divorce ceremony, and then just changes him mind and proposes again?? The only thing that would have made the movie better was for the wife to kick him in jewels and yell no. Unfortunately she says yes, totally destroying the movie.

Remake of Tollywood Movie (INDIA)
manchala102310 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This move was already released in India in the year 1997 here is the link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SS933AdoREE.

But this is very good movie which explains about the Indian culture, where divorce after marriage is not possible. This also explains about how much importance and impossible to break the bond once you are married.

But you can still understand this movie without subtitles in Indian language. In India this is a dramatic movie. feel good. I was a child when i watched this movie in the Indian theater. The director is from India and he always takes the family oriented movies. I really love this director movies

My Second Attempt At A Review
lynnspook13 May 2021
If I could rate this a 0, I would. It was that bad. The "acting" was forced and unnatural, which took me completely out of the movie. I don't know who the lead "actor" is, but he's awful.

1 Wedding & 1 Divorce Bliss for All
borhank10 February 2024
Divorce Invitation is a B to C grade movie about a young couple that jump into the whole marriage couple thing a tad soon even to the point that Michael changes his religion from Christian to Jewish and even to the point Michael jumps in so fast that he signs a prenump without reading it as he is head over heals in love with. Dylan that he does not care about any legal paperwork.

This movie has all the trimmings of a funny romantic comedy and in some parts its funny but the whole fact of chaeating when you are in a commited relationship is a tad on the nose.

Nadia Bjorlin is the other woman and like the reviewer before me I noticed that the make up around Nadia Bjorlin eyes was a tad too dark and it made her look strange she is beautiful but the darkness maybe this ment that there was a depth of sadness for her character.

A one time watch for me.

Maybe not a date movie choose something else.

Good romantic comedy
qaz-ram26 May 2013
The movie has good romantic comedy and sentiment. I liked the movie very much. The story is closer to everyone's life after few years of married life. We should encourage upcoming actors with the best stories like this. everyone acted very well. I recommend to watch the movie. Jonathan Bennett, Nadia Bjorlin acted very well. I liked Jamie-Lynn Sigler acting also. Only thing I didn't like is the college time love story. The characters replaced with someone else. They would have taken with same actors. They look same age, not much age difference with current age but replaced with different people which I felt little weird. I don't see in many theaters but my feeling is it should run in more theaters.

What a Movie!
103674-274710 September 2013
Wow, this movie knocked me off my socks! I just stumbled across it accidentally and couldn't believe how the story line unfolded. It really is the perfect train wreck. The male actor has an awesome and beautiful wife that anyone would fall in love with but an even more beautiful reconnection with his high school sweet heart right after he marries his perfect wife. What to do? He certainly makes a lot of mistakes but in all honesty anyone would struggle in the situations he was in. I think my mouth was open in shock for most the movie as I waivered with his every decision. But in the end the train wreck works itself out. Awesome movie!

Movie was overall good and had outstanding performances
andrew-ebnj5 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know why this movie got such poor reviews. I thought it was very depressing and realistic. I think that this movie should've won many awards because it taught many viewers, especially me, to enjoy life, and not take things for granted. I was crying by the end and it was so good to know he made his gut decision and stayed with Dylan!!!! I think that too many people don't see life in the bigger picture. There are people everyday watching you and you have to think before you act and this movie teaches you to think before you act so it doesn't hurt anyone else. In my lifetime, there has been many tough decisions I had to make that were related to this movie, and I really appreciate it being put on the big screen for everyone else to appreciate

Very Good Movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a great movie (I invite all the guys to watch it with the girlfriend/wife)
gilbertopg3 October 2018
Im sorry to tell you boys and girls but this movie is really entertaining, If you liked Alice Eve in (She is out of your league) Nadia Bjorlin is an 11 in a scale of one to ten. I accidentally trip while browsing movies on amazon prime and this was a jewel, i got entertain for a couple of hours. Of course women are not going to like this movie, they are used to see movies where the girl has to pick between two guys, the rich guy and the handsome guy and somehow she gets both at the end without consequences. Well this movie is when tables are turned that is all i can say. So if you are a guy with your significant other and you've been forced to watch all those chick flicks because you love your significant other...well this is payback time. And dont forget to share her reaction. Warning, you probably wont get any action after watching this movie with your girl but you will enjoy the plot.

More than Perfect
preyeliberty31 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A wonderful movie indeed. Strongly recommended. Actually came across it mistakenly but trust it was worth it. Actually one of the best movie I have watched in a while. Please if you haven't tried this movie out you're missing out. Jonathan Bonnet part was perfect also his wife too and the. Alex (Nadia Bjorlin) her role was just perfectly acted. From Jonathan getting married to his perfect wife and then few months later has a wonderful reunion with his beautiful and lovely ex classmate and then they both have a lovely time together she teaches him a bit about golf and they hang out and then Jonathan ends up falling in love with her. Strongly recommended.
