An Engaging Romance Thriller
crazyraju16 February 2015
The movie revolves around a girl (Madhu), who remembers her previous births. In every era, there forms a love story between the lead pairs.

Director K.V. Anand had mixed the reincarnation concept with some commercial elements to satisfy the audience. The major positive of the film is its lead cast, the hype around the story and rich visuals.

Dhanush had delivered one of his best performance in the film. He was very good in his characters Murugappa and Kaali. And the surprise package is Amyra Dastur. In this film, the lead heroine had much scope for her performance in the film and she had done her job with ease.

Supporting actors, like Karthik, Ashish Vidhyarthi and Mukesh Tiwari have also done their part well. 'Danga Maari' song is the pick of the film and that would be a treat for the audience.

The negative sides are few. The flick resembles to be a modern version of yesteryear Tamil blockbuster film "Nenjam Marappathillai" and final moments of the film are quite predictable, alike all Tamil films.

Forget the negatives. Overall, the film gives you a little fantasy feel and unlike his previous flick, director K.V. Anand had concentrated well on the screenplay and mixed some moments of suspense to keep the audience engaged to this romance flick.

This movie is worth your money and time. Do watch it !

sreeram-srg4 November 2015
Anegan is one of the best kollywood film in recent times.Director K.V Anad concentrated more on the screenplay this time after Maatran. The plot is superb and etched well. The story contains little fantasy but Anegan is entertaining all the way.Dhanush is best at his maximum,Amrya Dasthur is gorgeous in all roles, supporting artists like Karthick,Thalaivasal Vijay,Jagan,Aishwarya Devan are best in their respective roles. The cinematography is excellent by Om Prakash.Harris Jayaraj is in full form "Danga Maari" is a racy song."Roja Kadale" is a different romantic song,"Aathadi Aathadi","Thodu Vaanam" are good melodies.Harris jayaraj is excellent in mixing different emotions in song sequences and background score is top-notch.Editing is crisp.Totally Anegan satisfied me 100%. I am avoiding some few negatives due to film"s entertaining quotient.

Accept the movie's premises and enjoy
nadineazalea28 July 2016
I'm quite surprised that this movie hasn't got a higher rating on IMDb. Anegan showed me how well Dhanush can act. His modern day persona Ashwin fell a bit flat for me, perhaps because character-wise he's the dullest and there isn't much character development, but Dhanush's portrayals of Murugappa and Kaali were fantastic.

I wish the female characters were stronger. Actually, they're far from weak personalities, yet we're not shown how their strength of character carries over outside the realm of finding their soulmate and never letting them go. Amyra's character is a perpetual damsel- in-distress needing Dhanush's character to take care of her. That said, I think Amyra delivered excellently.

Aside from a few unanswered questions I have (deleted scenes seem to provide some answers) and a little salt for the extra implausibility of villain's demise in the end, Anegan was beautifully shot, well executed and very entertaining!

Update: I revisited the film and feel I have to mention that Anegan has great supporting characters. And, I can't get the soundtrack out of my head.

Romantic Thriller
shreekara-199523 February 2015
Reincarnation, never ending romance and the interconnectivity of the different stories in one single film, the simple narration of the complex story just multiplies the curiosity among the audience, it's about the 2015 Tamil release ''Anegan''.

Story revolves in and around the serial murder mystery that is been revealed by the lady as if she is experiencing some sort of Déjà vu, the interconnectivity with every story makes the perfect narration, this film seems to be moving in the fast phase but the crispy editing and the grooming screenplay makes the flow interesting, Harris rocks with his very catchy tones, though the storyline seems to be repeated ones it has very unique way of presentation and designing, the highlight of this movie is of course Dhanush who is marvellous in all the role he played on-screen, he grab the attention of the audience with his mesmerizing performance and transforming looks, and Amyra seems to have the confidence presence, her expressions are of top and are convincing, Karthik is an another person to be appreciated for his antagonist shade.

Anegan seems to be losing its grip in some phase but the perfect on time performances by actors patch it up, K V Anand had given some most interesting stuff with fast narrative line, casting and the peculiar settings could be added as its winning strategy, whether it's a romantic scene or the aggressive outburst of the lead its presentation has those intense feelings that absorbs its viewers into it and the romance gets the special preference in the movie.

A Good plot with masala mixed for business purpose which spoiled what could have been one of the kind all time classic kollywood movie ...
wordvision-240-7186816 February 2015
Dhanush a mass hero needed that mass element which is been added to the script with satisfaction of his fans ...liked the way the backbone of the story which was hard to understand because of the masala element included but in the end director has made us utter as a different script a good film rather it could have been a all time classic Tamil movie...,if the business elements would have been avoided and much more concentration given on the wonderful story line ... any way a good movie to watch with the dangamari song stealing the claps from the audience and makes us feel to watch that song again ... Acting is excellent specially heroin and dhanush who excels asusal to his best the first half makes us sit with some not to good feel but the second half pulls the topgear a moves fast and interesting with knots untangled Director has been at his best in making the audience believe an unbelievable imaginary concept with the Love as the linking element cinematography is excellent art work losses some continuity editor best to the director expectations graphic was good overall a must watch

If one suspends a bit of disbelief, Anegan is a beautiful, entertaining film about rebirth!!!
jmoneyjohal15 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Madhumitha is convinced that she and her colleague Ashwin were lovers in their past lives and have been brought together by fate. Is there any truth to this or is she merely hallucinating?

When Anegan opens, we are told that the year is 1962 and the setting Burma. Murugappan, a Tamil laborer, saves Samudra, the daughter of a rich Burmese general, at a local fair. She falls madly in love with him but her father is totally against it. But the Burmese coup d'etat takes place, and Murugappan tries to smuggle Samudra to India. However, they are betrayed by Mallika, the girl who was in love with the lad. The lovers jump off the ship but Murugappan is shot at and Samudra decides to die along with him.

The action shifts to the present and we see that these events are being narrated by Madhumitha, a game developer in Kiran's successful company (with the sinister name of Tentacles), who is undergoing regression therapy. The poster in her room is that of Aung San Suu Kyi, Samudra's classmate! Madhu says that she has come across characters from her past life and is convinced that she will also meet Murugappan in this generation. And, she does, in the form of Ashwin, a systems engineer in her own office! She starts wooing him and while he is not ready to believe in past life, develops a soft corner for her.

Meanwhile, after an accident, Madhu regresses and tells another story, of Kaali and Kalyani, set in Madras in the year 1987. Kaali is a tough guy who charms Kalyani, a Brahmin girl, with his righteousness and innocence but she is forced to agree to a wedding with Ravikiran, a business magnate. However, Kaali arrives on the wedding night and the lovers decide to elope but they are duped and murdered. And, the killer might be someone close to them in their present lives, waiting to kill them again!

Anegan is pulp done perfectly well and KV Anand and his writers SuBa outdo themselves with this tale of reincarnation and revenge. The film certainly has the feel of a pulpy crime novel, which the writers are known for.

Dhanush is in terrific form here and just as he did in Velaiilla Pattadhari, the actor effortlessly makes Murugappan/Ashwin/Kaali seem both heroic and credible characters. It is hard to think of any other contemporary actor who could have pulled off the physical and emotional aspects of all these roles this convincingly. If he is effective as the scrawny laborer Murugappan and totally looks the part, he is very much relatable as Ashwin, the "middle class" systems guy. But the real scene-stealer is Kaali, the ruffian with a heart of gold. The shading he gives the character makes Kaali (who also gets to dance to the rousing Danga Maari) stand out from the similar rough-and-tough Karuppu of Aadukalam and the titular character of Maryan. The only place where he feels out-of-place is the brief role of Ilamaran, as his lanky frame doesn't go well with the princely costume.

Amyra, in her Tamil film debut, gets a meaty role, and while, as Samudra and Kalyani, she's just another pretty girl falling for charming men below her social stature, as the perplexed Madhu, she is quite convincing. Karthik, who is rather subdued in the initial portions, lets loose in the climax and makes you understand why the character does what he does.

Anand has never been a filmmaker who holds himself and here, he keeps throwing various elements at us reincarnation, past life regression, illegal drugs, military coups, ghosts, underground video games, murder, mystery, red herrings and a handful of accidents (involving a giant wheel, a lift, a car, a lorry). But, unlike Maattrraan, which went off the rails after a promising first half, here, everything works and in gloriously fashion. He also displays a playful, lighter touch here, so we easily buy into the preposterousness of the plot. And despite the chaotic plot, there is clarity in the storytelling. There are traces of Magadheera, Enakkul Oruvan, Cloud Atlas and The Fountain, but these are mainly due to the reincarnation theme. The individual love stories seem a bit routine and the third act does become a little predictable and the moment when Ashwin, too, realizes his past is feels rushed and lacks impact, but even here, Anand ensures that we get those mass moments like the scene where Dhanush brings the house down in the scene where he mimics and mocks Karthik and the way the villain is killed. Anegan is pure camp but also a hugely entertaining one.

Wonderful movie that is a synopsis of what Tamil cinema means
madd-5372027 March 2015
Danush's acting was brilliant. There it is, the most important thing said. There are other important things, such as the sense of fun, nice story, style, drama and entertainment value that makes up the best of commercial Tamil cinema. It is nice to see all of these come together.

The moviemaker has thought it fit to leave it up to the viewer to decide whether this was really a reincarnation movie, or only pretending to be that for most of the flick. But in the meantime, they were able to take us from historical gem- the history of tamils in Myanmar pre revolution to fun and cool Madras street lingo.

It did not feel like 2.5 hours, just grab a beer and relax with this very entertaining movie, no matter where you are from!

Twists and turns,A different love story for Tamil cinema........
itsmedanielraj21 February 2015
Story:

The film opens in Burma, many years ago, with Samudra (Amyra) falling in love with Murugesan (Dhanush). Circumstances tear them apart, but decades later Madhumitha (Amyra), allegedly the reincarnation of Samudra, has glimpses of the past. She meets people who are rebirths of the ones she moved closely with, in what she believes to be her previous birth in Burma. Eventually, Madhu meets Ashwin (Dhanush), reincarnation of Murugesan. But is it only about the love that survives time, and joins hands in the next birth? Or, are all her dreams about the hallucinations from use of drugs? Will it help solve real mysteries? Watch the movie to find out.

Cast:

Dhanush chooses not by heroism, but by story. And hence, trust him when the man who went unflinchingly through 33 scripts, has chosen to nod to KV Anand. 'Anegan' casts him in multiple roles - each for every time period that the film casts him in; and he makes his presence deeply felt - be it the wage worker with the mind of a precise engineer, or even the knight in the heroine's dreams. Amyra is paired with Dhanush in all those eras, but the performance of hers that stands out the most is as Madhumitha. It is quite a task to behave quirky and also come across as being honest in the same package; as Madhu, she manages to get her levels insanity impact you straight out of the screen. And bow down to Karthik! Madhu's boss Kiran, like every other character, Karthik also has a role in one of the stories of the work-stressed heroine. But in every scene, Karthik justifies why he is hailed as being extraordinary.

Picture:

Film by KV Anand, so rest assured for the visuals, as they are undoubtedly world class. Credit goes to Om Prakash to have highlighted each era with the complimenting tinge of colour, and for recreating the heroine's dreams as how it really is dreamt. Given the multi-layered story, the screenplay takes many twists and confusing turns. But in the end, that's what ensures to glue you to the seat. With mystery at every level, the screenplay makes you want to wait and watch. Thanks to Anthony for putting it all together crisply.

Music:

What could have been better:

Though narrated as convincingly as possible, the heroism fails to hail as high as aimed, owing to what you could fairly see coming up.

1. At every twist of suspense, you end up concluding the next move, predictably. However, story at large remains concealed.

2. CG in the scene of accident and climax could have been done better.

What comes as surprise:

The moments to cherish in the movie, span farther than the much awaited 'Danga Maari'. The song is worth the wait, alright, but there are other portions that treat us equally happy.

1. Picturing of songs are classy

2. Action sequences are complete and logical. Also, unnecessary fight possibilities are avoided, saving peace.

3. Despite the absence of a dedicated comedy track, there are many a light moments.

4. Dialogues are precise - Subha has nailed it!

5.Everyone is addicted to the album, and Harris keeps the josh intact in the theatres as well. However songs are quite a many, which acts as friction to the flow of story. Background score is refreshing and racy, making the movie experience enjoyable.

6.Dhanush and Kartick has steal the show by their performance..

'Anegan' savours all tastes. There is action, a little bit of revenge, lighthearted comedy, smothering love, all served with a twist from the usual.

Rating: 8/10

Another horrible movie from K V Anand!!
Sal199130 March 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I think Kv Anand can go behind the Camera rather than directing a film to spend some valuable cash bundles. This is really a horrible movie from the start to end. I don't understand what obsession he has behind the medicines and some overtly intelligent heroes.

*Storyline: I think the story line is a good choice for a fantasy type celluloid but completely failed as a film in the making and a cruel letdown by the amateurish screenplay.

*Acting : Poor choice of heroine, who doesn't know what the heck acting is??. Not even a lip sync is worked for her. This movie just got buried its ashes because of her acting. Unfortunately the roles played by Dhanush which never fits the bill. Not an impressive work from Karthik but an OK for a role like this.

*Direction: Amateurish. No proper paperwork and sketches for each characterization played there. A complete Dejavu from his previous movies.

*Screenplay: Mediocre *Casting : Height of stupidity *Editing : Good job *Cinematography: Decent job *Art direction: Decent job

*Music: 1) Songs: Complete Dejavu (Harrish Jayaraj lost his essence for quite a long ago). Yes Dangamari is enjoyable to hear but seriously horrible to watch. 2) BGM: Poor throughout the film.

Final Verdict: My 150 bucks gone just like that and I wasted my 3 hours for some garbage.

To Producer: You can check some budding short film directors. They are very much impressive and extremely cost beneficiary.

Best Movie Friends...........................................
negash-darkid252913 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I Don't say it's supeb. U Just Watch it and say. Ashwin, played by Dhanush is a happy go lucky person who works in a private organization. His colleague, played by Amyra Dastur falls in love with him the moment she sees him. Not being able to understand how a good looking girl can fall in love with him so easily, Dhanush doesn't consider her love seriously.

Amyra Dastur, who tries to understand the reason behind her new found love for Dhanush realizes that her relationship with Dhanush goes a long way back. Not just in this life, but Dhanush somehow ends up being her lover in her previous three lives.

Amyra also realizes that Dhanush is her soulmate and hence will always be her lover in all her lives that she has been gifted with. Destiny plays the baddie in this film as it makes sure that Dhanush and Amyra never get a chance to lead a life together.

Stories from their previous lives have been narrated in an interesting manner. What happens in each of their previous three lives and most importantly what happens in their current lives forms the rest of the story.

A romantic thriller love story with rebirth principle
SivakumarBalachandran13 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Anegan (2015) Review: The first thing I wanted to know after watching this flick was the meaning of the word "Anegan" itself. At last I came to know it hails from "Thiruvasagam" which means multiple single person or not one person but so many. So I would say title was very apt for the movie. Anegan is a complicated script to handle but K.V.Anand has tried to essay it as simple as possible. This is a Valentine 's Day release so when you ask for a single romance story KV gives you three interconnected romantic tales that happens in three different eras. The plot starts with the lead pair Dhanush and Amyra Dastur living in 1962 in Burma. They are depicted as inseparable lovers. Then plot closes there opens up again in the present day where it is believed that the lovers have taken re-birth to rejoice their love. At the present the heroine goes in hallucinations and understands the rebirth ideology and chases the hero to woo him. This is where we are taken back to another birth of these two back in 1987 in old Chennai. Confusing isn't it?! But the screenplay has tried its level best not to confuse you.OK coming to the performances we see both the leads in three different shades actually four including a song. Dhanush has essayed the roles well and he proves his acting skills yet again. Amyra Dastur the new girl in kollywood town looks pretty and has got a huge scope in the first movie equal or more than the hero. She has done in an OK level but we think at times she is not apt in this Tamil girl portrayal. Her lip sync was not so well. After a long gap Karthik on screen scores towards the end and really he has done it effortless. Claps go on the hall when Dhanush imitates Karthik. Jagan as usual in KV film has supported well. Music was good by HJ. BGM was very well done. Editing could have been better in shortening the movie length. Story was absolutely a mish mash of so many English and Tamil movies but yet keeps us engaged. The positive part is the movie travels with different landscapes and times good art works and CG. Negative part is lots of logic holes in the plot. We feel it could have been a better essayed thriller at the end. Overall worth once watch 3/5. -Reviewed by Balachandran Sivakumar

Romantic Twistin Thriller
jo10003615 February 2015
Director K.V.Anand who brought us blockbusters like Ayan and Ko took a different story line it seems.I like the twists in this movie.Although the story has many character, actor Dhanush played it well.Navarasa nayagan is back with his superb performance. As this one for Valentine day special, it has nice romantic story with thrilling ending. The interconnected story keeps us in the story track. The songs bring complete understanding of the track. The fight scenes well taken and also not covered up many scenes but limited.Expected song "Danga Maari" was nice in the screenplay and everyone enjoyed it.Character linking with different stories was perfect with each love stories in it.But i could predict the ending little bit.

As a whole, this movie keeps me entertained back to back with comedy, love and thrilling.

Anegan - A Wholesome Entertainer
rohith-ravichandran16 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Anegan is arguably one of the best movies of these days. Totally, it is a love story which is interwoven to four different time periods in a very interesting and engaging way as usually done by the team of K.V.Anand and Shuba (Director and writer respectively). But this isn't an usual period love drama film which lacks credibility. It is made spectacular by all actors' performances, heavenly music by Harris, racy screenplay of director, colorful & rich visuals(apt cinematography) and right mix of comedy, action, suspense, logic with a touch of Chemistry Application(quite obvious in Shuba's movies). Totally, at the end, it relieves you of your stress with which you sat in the theater at the start. Dhanush,Karthik,Amyra Dastur acting is incredible (especially lead actress' lip sync is commendable) Harris' music makes our mind dwindle to past and present smoothly. BGM is at its PEAK. On the whole, PURA PAISA VASOOL for ardent cinema lovers and love movie likers. You must NOT MISS such RARE, GOOD FILM.

Terrible logic. Director could hire few more actors
shish-6704417 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Oh man, I can't understand how this can be happened. 1. How on earth Karthik (Kiran) can hire the people (Dhanush and Girl) who are lookalike the people he killed few years back? 2. How all these casts can know each other in each of their lives? There is a terrible mixed up.

There should be different actors in order to have a good logic.

Also Karthik should not speak too much English. It's really annoying.

Bad copy of Cloud Atlas
rajivsperumal18 February 2015
Well, for those who've watched the movie Cloud Atlas for all its complexities and the way it was taken you'd surely be disappointed with Anegan. Yes, this movie is an Indian - Tamil Kollywood way of doing a Cloud Atlas! Dhanush has to be given credit for trying something this adventurous on screen. He for one has gained praise even in Bollywood for his acting. But if you notice carefully both this movies weren't great movies / scripts (Raanjhana & Shamitabh). I'm guessing he needs to be more self-critical / imposing while choosing scripts and deciding how the movie is made. At least being an actor of his stature he should be able to be more choosy? Right? On the whole, I wouldn't recommend this movie!
