We get a voiceover (by Helen Mirren) of Becky's thoughts. She tells us she's looking for a new man and is very interested in Artie (Lauren Potter). She tells Sue (Jane Lynch) how she's feeling. Sue tells him she should ask him out.

Beiste tells Sam the only varsity sport he can still get on is synchronized swimming. We meet head coach Roz Washington (guest star NeNe Leakes). Joining synchronized swimming does not have the desired affect for Sam, as ice hockey guys slushy him together. Mercedes immediately begins wiping him off, to Shane's annoyance.

Will brings in Finn's mother (Romy Rosemont) and Burt (Mike O'Malley) to talk about him thinking of joining the army. They want to know why. It seems clear most of the reason is so he can follow in the footsteps of his father, who died in combat. At this point, his mother tells him she's been lying to him. Finn's father didn't handle combat well and was dishonorably discharged. He had issues with drugs and eventually OD'd back at home. Finn is furious.

Artie tells Becky she may have gotten the wrong idea. She asks if it's because "I'm too intimidating." He says yes. She walks away and her thoughts tell us she didn't ask whether the real reason was because of her Down syndrome because she thinks that was the real reason. She tries not to cry but breaks down when she reaches Sue's office. Sue says she too was recently dumped (by Cooter) and they will get through this together.
Finn asks Rachel to meet him in the auditorium. He tells her the something special he needs in his life is her. Finn then takes out a ring and asks Rachel to marry him. Rachel looks down at the ring. The episode ends.
