One of the best surprising episodes
bixo-64-5312887 October 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Obvious you do not watch the series and you just say words of hate.

This was absolutely one of the best episodes aired so far,a lot of action and surprising moments, I'm really looking forward to find out what's next.

All the background story and the appearance of Nina as Katerina was really exciting, and watching for the first time another Original wow,I'm so excited, they made serious comeback after long time Non-Action. If you already watched The next episode you will see that they just keep getting better.

Therefore I must say, this series is one of the best Sci-F and Horror series nowadays.

classic episode that proves ripper Stefan was MVP in this season
jackDee-5656527 December 2020
Loved the flashbacks to Chicago with Stefan at the height of being a mainac, this and the departed which is the season three finale might be the only episode of season 3 that were truely great, I know I am quite negative about my feelings on season three honestly its my least favourite season of the series but look season 1 is a 8.9 out of 10 season 2 is 8.8 out of 10 and season 3 for me is 8.5 out of 10 I still like the season but its not an A+ its still a A- or a B which is pretty good

Why Stefan is the Chosen
claudio_carvalho12 November 2013
Caroline is tortured by her father Bill that wants to make her control her impulse for blood; however she is rescued by Sheriff Forbes and Tyler. Klaus takes Stefan to Chicago to meet the witch Gloria to help him to break the curse. Gloria tells that Rebekah might have what she needs. Klaus revives his sister Rebekah, for whom Stefan had a crush in the 20's. Soon Stefan learns that Klaus compelled him to forget Rebekah and him and Gloria needs the necklace that he gave to Elena for the witchcraft.

"The End of the Affair" explains why Stefan was chosen by Klaus. However there is a flaw in this explanation since Klaus's original idea was to ask Gloria to help him to break the curse. Only when Gloria requested the necklace is that he decided to resuscitate his sister. The reaction of Sheriff Forbes was a good surprise of the show. My vote is seven.

Still very poor acting, in 1 word flat.
rds_11 October 2011
The show is just mildly interesting enough to keep following it (purely due to the general storyline). But to be honest most of the episodes will just be running in the background, not really paying that much attention to it.

Nina Dobrev, what were they thinking casting this bubble head. She sounds as lame in the series as she does in real life. Her constant nagging tone that makes it even more obvious how bad the script is. She constantly sounds like she has to read something that bores the crap out of her. And worst of all there is absolutely no hint to Nina Dobrev getting any better at her job.

The same can be said for Paul Wesley (the guy with 2 first names :P) although it fits a little better to his role. But that doesn't make it any less boring and flat.

The rest of the cast does a much better job although the bad script goes for everyone.

not for fans of H2O JUST ADD WATER
RavenGlamDVDCollector1 March 2019
Sometime October 2011 reviewer rds1 or something like that did a review of this episode which I encountered yesterday. I take umbrage at what this person said about Nina Dobrev. NINA IS FANTASTIC. General media concensus is that Nina is fantastic, and I agree. She was the reason why I had gotten involved in the first place. I would like to point out that the particularly vitriolic things said signifies hater status, jealousy, envy.

Wonderful performance by Candice Accola. Who'd have thought Steven from DYNASTY could still make his presence felt? "Daddy, you can't change the way I am!" Oh, she is so darling, assuring him she has her vampire urges under control. Imagine having a vampire girlfriend. Well, Candice, if it's you...

And here's Claire Holt. Anybody else out there knows about H2O JUST ADD WATER? You think you're a Claire fan but you don't know the little Australian mermaid show? Better rectify! Story is for teens, smart teens, mind you, but glamour is top shelf A1 100% (take The Raven's word for this) and Claire was at her ultimate finest there.

In this episode, there's a scene that will be particularly horrendous for fans of the Australian show.

My general feeling about Season 3? The gore used to be incidental. Now there's this abundance of ugliness, the fun element is dwindling. This struck me while watching the previous episode, and that feeling stays. Klaus takes over the storyline, Bonnie remains AWOL and Zach Roerig, you're gonna be out of a job! {hey, I don't check up ahead, I call it as I see it} Damon was at his best in Season 1, Stefan bored me to tears but now he is just disgusting, gonna be forever tainted and unacceptable like that ill-conceived male lead of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY cannot suddenly be acceptable in FIFTY SHADES DARKER.

But Nina Dobrev and Candice Accola! Wow! Double Wow! So, to all the haters out there, ooh pitiful creatures you are! Look, there is constructive criticism, but when you say claptrap like "she sounds like she's reading off a piece of paper" or something like that... I watch most of my stuff again and again after being on IMDb with quote contributions, and those rankling comments really made me fume... Nina is absolutely a-m-a-z-i-n-g. Marvelous. Stunning.

The person ridiculed Paul Wesley for having two Christian names as his moniker. so, to quote Elena, "What a monster!" I REST MY CASE...

Why Klaus Wants Stefan
vivianla24 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Katherine calls Damon from a payphone looking gorgeous. She knows where Stefan and Klaus are. Elena wakes up to find Damon in her bed and screams. They go by car to Stefan's old apartment.

It's the 1920s where it is flappers' era. Stefan makes out then bites a girl in a vehicle as she moans.

In the car Damon gives Elena a diary of Stefan's. He wrote how he woke up with lots of women he doesn't remember. Damon then gasps and says Stefan's not a virgin mockingly.

Klaus shows Stefan old memories. Klaus pulls out the knife inside Rebekah to get her to wake up. Klaus compels Stefan to remember the old days. Rebekah is Klaus's sister.

Katherine checks in by calling from a payphone again. She looks beautiful and her form is perfect as she walks to a taxi and opens the door to get inside.
