I must say I liked the movie. Would I watch it again? No. Up to the very end the movie was very interesting and it has been thus far - by my standards one of the best movies that you see 1:20mins only one actor acting.
Acting was good to great. Special attention was given to verbal communications to convey meaning and a big thumbs up for that.
Cinematography and editing was very good, too. It does not get boring or repetitive and the movie maintains an edge right close to the end. Very clever script actually.
I would spoil the movie if I continue to speak about the ending but If you haven't read many reviews (that could spoil the end) and like mystery flick I would recommend this movie.
7/10 for the clever movie but loses some point for the ending.

Make no mistake about it, Stephen Dorff owns this film. He did such an excellent job. Since he plays the only visible character for about 93% of the film, I can confidently say it's worth a watch despite the glaring flaws of the film. He's just that entertaining here.
First off, I've never seen Buried, so my review will be unbiased in regards to that film - just keep that in mind. Overall, I thought the concept of Brake was pretty clever: Secret Service agent gets kidnapped; locked in the trunk of a constantly moving automobile by a group of mysterious terrorists; physically and mentally tortured by unconventional methods in order for them to get what they want. (As if any method of torture is conventional.) Will his character break (not BRAKE)? What exactly do the terrorists want and who are they? Will everything go according to plan along the way? You'll have to watch to find out.
A lot of people have complained about the ending (or multiple endings) and the ability to predict some of the plot twists, like, before the prologue. (No, just kidding.) Seriously, it was way too easy figuring this movie out. That said, I still enjoyed it. Listen, with a plot of this nature there are only a few ways this could have ended - either the terrorist will get what they want out of agent Jeremy Reines (Dorff) or they won't. Everything in between is just a waiting game of HOW they intend to get it out of him, WHAT it is they want, and IF Dorff's character will make it out alive or not. When it comes down to it, the ending (or multiple endings) does provide you with the answers. What more do you want people?!
Indeed, the plot is more than a bit far-fetched and I couldn't help but wonder why in the heck would anyone go through this much trouble to get something when there certainly were simpler (and probably more effective) methods to get the job done. I don't know, maybe they could have injected him with a truth serum or something. But then if that happened this wouldn't be called Brake; it'd be an entirely different movie.
There are some other issues. There were a few revelations that the writer, Timothy Mannion, intended to be relevant towards the climax of the film but he came up short big time. They made no sense in context to what had happened earlier in the film and added no value to the outcome of the film. Also, for Reines to be such a highly trained and alert Secret Service agent, he was often too naive in certain circumstances when even Stevie Wonder would have seen the writing on the wall. No fault of Dorff's though, as once again, this is more a reflection of poor writing than anything else.
Dorff was brilliant! That's why despite a cop out ending, sloppy writing, and plot elements so implausible that even M. Night Shyamalan would shake his head in shame, I still can't give it less than 7 stars. And that says a lot about Stephen's performance.

This distinguishable idea was used before and that is why the wow! effect is smaller; the backgrounds are different, but there are lots of similar features: mobile phone calls, hope vs. despair via events outside, new sudden twists, the fate of the leading character etc. However, Stephen Dorff is stronger and more versatile actor than Ryan Reynolds.
I have heard that many did not like the ending scenes - but I did not mind; in my opinion, it would have been more shallow if the pre-ending scenes had taken the form of the final solution. However, it remained unclear to me who was involved with whom etc.
A catchy thriller if you like movies with solo performances in a limited space.

This movie is so boring especially if you have seen Saw and Buried(oh and the Recruit). The beginning is so similar to Saw that I couldn't sit through it. The end was predictable and without giving away too much I can say that it was really what one expects. All in all, a failure as movie, not because it's bad as a standalone thriller, but because it's not the first of it's kind and borrows too much from it's predecessors.
To sum up:Originality in the script is the big issue here. However, if you have not seen the other movies I mentioned, you may like this one.( Saw is way way way better though)

I went into see this movie, not having a clue of what to expect. I knew it starred Stephen Dorff, but I've never really been a big fan of his. It opened with Stephen trapped in some sort of box and like his character I had no idea what was going on...and I liked that. I liked that it put me in his shoes. And it continued like that every step of the way. Trying to figure out what the hell was going on. It was like 90 min of the best roller coaster ride...and I didn't want to get off! I was at the edge of my seat from beginning to end. It wasn't full of pyrotechnics and cgi for a change! Great writing and directing! Best move I've seen all year!

I liked the overall plot of this movie but thought something was missing. The acting was good and there was a lot of action. It didn't seem like it would cost a lot of money to produce a movie like this. There was a couple parts that didn't make sense to me but I don't think I'll bother to watch again. The previews kinda reminded me of the movie buried so I was hesitant to watch. It didn't matter to me how or why the guy was put in the trunk. It was tiring watching him try to get out. I got more into the movie as it progressed and was thrown off at the ending. Overall it was okay but could of been so much better. Definitely a one time watch only movie for me.

This was one of the most unique and intriguing films I have seen in years. My reaction to Brake was similar to when I first watched The Usual Suspects. I had only a loose understanding of what the film was about before I went in, but after I walked out, I was speechless. How? Thats the only thing I kept asking, how did they do it? A true think piece crossed with an action flick, nothing is what it seems in Brake. The performances are solid throughout, Stephen Dorff gives a gritty, organic performance and this vehicle finally allows him to flex those acting muscles in a way we haven't seen in some time. Gabe Torres takes a gamble on a script that seems immeasurably difficult to bring to life, and builds a roller-coaster ride out of it, flawlessly. If you have the chance, see this film! It will change your opinion about what is fundamentally possible in cinema.

Literally was on the edge of my seat with this one! Thought I had figured it out. Then prided myself on such only to find with every twist and turn, I was sadly wrong. I was then pulled deeper into story and captivating performance. The Director must of had his hands full to be able to tell a story so captivating with the material at hand. Definitely shows the skills of the Director, DP, Editor and Musical Score. Happily impressed to be taken on a journey that showed no sign of clues to where it might lead. Which is so rare these days. Well done! I will watching out for this director to see what else he will bring to the big screen.

The production of this movie is not bad, we have certainly seen worse. Where this movie fails badly is in the story line. 10 minutes into the movie and you can predict exactly what is going to happen. It´s been done before, many times and much better. To be fair, it is watchable, just, lets say that if you are on a long flight across the world and this is the only movie available to watch then go for it but otherwise, this is one for the bin. Will we be watching it again in the future, highly unlikely.

A Secret Service Agent (Stephen Dorff) is held captive in the trunk of a car and endures mental and physical torture as terrorists attempt to extract information for their plot against the President of the United States.
He is locked in a box that way too complicated. It's basically a 1-man play for quite a while as he talks to his capturer. I get a sense that this was some amateur writing assignment that somebody turn into a movie really cheap. The basic concept has been done before. This time it runs out of steam too soon. By the time, we are introduced to other people and hopefully drive the movie home. It's already too late. Nice try.

I enjoyed this. Late to the party in watching it. I felt the story line was strong, and it must have been a cheap film to make, and without giving spoilers away, yes, the secret service agent awakes in the trunk of a car, as the film discription says.
I'm not sure about the.conclusion of this film, you decided, but it left me feeling irritated. Overall, good film

When I read a synopsis of this movie, it looked like a straight to video knockoff of the overrated 2010 film "Buried" starring Ryan Reynolds. Another movie where a person wakes up in a coffin under mysterious circumstances? Really? But the similarities (!) end there.
This is an incredibly well executed movie. Stephen Dorff has come a hell of a long way since Blade and turns in a gritty, absolutely convincing performance. His acting, combined with a tight script and a solid score, maintain tension throughout the film.
This is going to be one of the sleeper hits of 2012 and will make a great dark horse next awards season.

The plot: A Secret Service agent is kidnapped, placed in a see-through coffin that's rigged with a few mysterious contraptions, and subjected to bizarre psychological torture.
Stephen Dorff is an interesting actor. I've always liked him, and it's partly because he's so unpredictable. He's all over the place -- big budget, low budget, action, horror, thriller, drama -- you never really know what you're going to get. Maybe that's because he's never truly been an A-list actor, but I enjoy the fact that he's willing to take almost any role, no matter what. I was certainly willing to take a chance on Brake, but I don't think it's really one of Dorff's best movies.
Dorff is an attractive, charismatic guy who seems to have stopped aging at around 30. I can understand why many of his fans are female. Some people have expressed skepticism that he can handle what amounts to a one man show in a single location, but I thought he did fine. While not an acting tour-de-force, his performance was still interesting enough to carry my attention, at least. It helps that the movie is quite mysterious, leaving most of the minimalist plotting to the end. Constant red herrings, cat and mouse games, and psychological torture make up most of the run-time. This could have been a rather interesting mix of thriller and psychological thriller, but the hack writing really kind of ruins the promise.
Unfortunately, I knew what the twist was going to be very early in the movie. I even called the second twist in the ending, because I figured they simply wouldn't be able to resist the urge to throw it in. I generally dislike this kind of ending, and I wish writers would resist the urge to pile on twist after twist, especially when they're telegraphed so early in the movie.
My main problem isn't that the movie is ridiculously unlikely or that the double-twist ruins the movie. Rather, it's that the movie is just too damn predictable. I've seen this sort of thing done countless times, and they always seem to play the same way. For a low budget B movie, this was actually pretty enjoyable, but I wish that the writing had been a little better. Everything just seemed so incredibly obvious, and yet the movie played it as if were supposed to be witty and surprising. In that way, it reminded me of M. Night Shyamalan's movies, and that's not really a good thing.

That's it, he's in the trunk 99% of the movie. Reminded us of the Josh Duhamel movie "Scenic Route", where 99 1/2% of the movie was on a deserted road of the desert. 2 actors one truck, two drivers passing by. That was it. Get the picture? I wish I had that hour back, that's for sure. If you think you know the ending trust me you don't. The ending is truly the worst ending I have ever seen in a movie. Save except the Scenic Route movie. You have to be a really good actor to carry off this role, and that is the only good thing I can say about the movie. The one and only main actor until the 2 minute ending, was a great actor.
