Kreeta Salminen in Kansan vihollinen (2022)

Taut, mostly believable plot

The series captured the atmosphere of a competitive newsroom extremely well. And it was completely true to life in that the journalists were being sent on assignments for parochial local matters rather than looking for scoops all the time.

However, when a scoop came along the paper was ready. Katja Salonen, a dogged and experienced reporter, was on the job.

The death of a star Finnish football player was the catalyst for the unravelling of a major Ponzi scheme that he was connected to via a set of his friends. That the death was suspicious was enough to set the wheels of journalism in motion. Despite Finland being rated as the least corrupt country on earth, there was plenty here to show ways and means to circumvent inspection - but that left a paper trail to be picked up by the reporters.

The final episode, where the events were resolved, was somewhat overwrought, which is why I awarded only a seven. There were also a couple of loose ends that were not dealt with. These aren't cliffhangers in the conventional sense , so there won't be another series arising from them but it was a niggling annoyance that things were left in the air.

Were there to be another season with a new storyline, I'd certainly watch it.

Modern and old topics pleasantly intertwined, yet uneven accomplishment

Cybercurrency is not too novel phenomenon, but recent years have seen the big growth in popularity and designations. On the other hand, suspicious dealings regarding winning procurements and obtaining contracts is an "old stuff". Most of the events take place in the Finland´s second largest city - Tampere, with some trips to Barcelona, making the Series a kind of Finnish-Spanish cooperation project.

As for performances, none of them did really stick out, but as it was said in many episodes - "journalism is a team-work" - this was apparently for the best - at least did not deplete the overall quality...

Yet, Finland is among the least corrupted countries in the world, thus the plot design is somewhat airy-fairy, plus the wrongdoer was revealed too soon and the pace of the final episode (rushing) did not correspond to the earlier ones (typical Finnish "let´s see and considerate :) ). Some plot lines remained vague to the very end.

Seven points "only", as there are catchier Finnish crime series available, starting with e.g. Sorjonen.

Really good!!

This Finnish thriller is a big surprise, I really liked it!!. It's a shame that there aren't more people who watch Nordic series, they are of great quality. I will never forget 'Sorjonen', among others.

The plot is realistic and somewhat different, from the point of view of working in journalism.

This tense and exciting Finnish thriller series "Enemy of the People" follows a young and courageous journalist who uncovers dubious dealings. It's very exciting and dinamic, and this brings variety to everyday thriller life.

The only criticism is the path to the end, it seemed a bit rushed to me. I hope there is a 2nd season!

The plot is completely fictional and is not based on true events. Although it is told in a very realistic and current way, like our actual life itself.

Don't miss is it. It will also give you something to think about!

A solid little mini-series that stays on track

Unlike the other Finnish series that some seem to prefer (Bordertown), I prefer this one. The main thing for me is that this series stays focused on the main story and has characters that are fairly believable, unlike the other series. No irritating music, teen dramas, drug and graphic violence scenarios, and no family members becoming involved in the crimes and being victimized. Here you have themes of corruption, greed, politics, journalism and the impact of social media all coming together in a logical way. Although the ending is a bit abrupt and perhaps not all it could have been, at least there is a rational wrapping up here. The characters and roles are well developed and the acting mostly very believable. The pace is good and it has enough tension and twists to keep you interested. The dialogue and writing is solid and although there are a few missteps (the short-lived affair between the two journalists), most relationships are realistically portrayed. Another nice little gem from Scandinavian shores. Best watched in the original language with subtitles.
