The injured Merlin is entrusted to Lancelot (the only knight aware that he is a sorcerer) to return to Camelot, but on the way they stop at a lake where Merlin is cured by friendly water sprites. Rejoining the others on the Isles of the Blessed, Merlin offers himself as the sacrifice instead of Arthur; however, the Gatekeeper tells him it is not yet his time, and Lancelot, clearly saddened that he can never have Guinevere, walks through the portal instead, thus healing the rift. In Camelot, Guinevere stands up to Agravaine and, after Morgana returns in secret to try and kill her, she and Gaius realise that Agravaine is not to be trusted. Lancelot is given a memorial funeral pyre, after which Gaius tells Merlin to beware Agravaine - and rightly, for he is Morgana's spy in Camelot.
