Christmas Rhapsody

The Periscope Films Youtube channel has a huge assortment of obscure films that less than .1% of planet Earth have seen, but this also means locating one which has an IMDB page is extremely difficult. While going through the videos, I came across this one, which isn't special in any way, but at least it's reviewable on here. This short from the 1940s is told from the perspective of a pine tree which later becomes a Christmas tree. The tree is noticeably downhearted and seems to have an inferiority complex towards the trees surrounding it, since they're so much taller and impressive looking. Meanwhile, two kids playing with a sled come across where the tree is, but don't notice it, since it's so pitifully short. The father of the children eventually arrives and sees the tree, cuts it down, and takes it back to his cabin. Here, the previously pathetic tree is given a new life as a beloved symbol of most people's favorite holiday. The family sings Silent Night to it, and that's pretty much all there is to this short. While I didn't think this film was awful, it's not on the same level of quality as many of the other things I watch, even on Youtube. The film doesn't mention it, but the tree being taken home and appreciated is probably a cryptic reference to the Christian mindset of showing respect towards everyone regardless of what they are or where they come from, since each person is unique. Overall, this short was barely mediocre and has one of the most simple plots I've ever seen, but it does at least manage to have a religious undertone without rubbing it in your face.
