This has got to be one of the best stories you’ll ever read that has to do with Wham’s song Last Christmas. Remember about five years ago when people though the world was going to end? It had to do with the Mayan calendar and a whole slew of theories about the fact that the world was slated to end soon and that there was nothing to be done for it. If you recall this was enough to send a lot people into doomsday mode, which meant that they believed this would be their last Christmas. Well for the DJ

Steven Moffat chats to us about Doctor Who, the changing face of television, and the internet culture around it...
Ahead of the release of Doctor Who series 10 on DVD and Blu-ray – it lands on Monday, and is available digitally now – outgoing showrunner Steven Moffat did a select few interviews to chat about the show. And he saved one for us.
It was refreshing that, having got lost myself on the way to the interview venue in the depths of London, Moffat himself managed to as well. Apologetic for arriving ten minutes late for our chat, he insisted on adding those minutes to the end of our time, and that’s not something that happens very often with interviews.
With that in mind, we settled down for a long chat about the show, the environment it exists in, and series 10 itself…

Thomas Rhett has belted out a lot of songs in his career, but his newest single “Life Changes” is probably the most apropos.
On Aug. 12, he and his wife Lauren Akins welcomed daughter Ada James. Just a few months prior, the couple adopted their daughter, Willa Gray, now 22-months-old.
How’s that for life changes?
“Last Christmas it was literally me and my wife and two dogs, and this Christmas is going to be my wife, two dogs and two kids,” he told People at the iHeartRadio music festival in Las Vegas on Saturday. “I would say that’s the...

The Emmys were dominated by an incredible batch of winners (Ann Dowd! Donald Glover!) and a very unfortunate cameo from Sean Spicer, but the one moment that’s not getting nearly enough attention is Chance the Rapper’s surprise appearance in Stephen Colbert’s pre-taped introduction. The three-time Grammy winner was featured in a quick aside where he performed a couple verses that basically turned him into a socially-conscious television critic. Anyone familiar with Chance was hardly surprised.

The mood got decidedly funnier and edgier in this year’s Emmy race for Original Music and Lyrics. It was a badly needed tonic for the country. Most notably, Tina Fey joined the musical fray for the first time, looking for her 10th Emmy with the hilarious “Hell No,” a tribute to Beyonce’s “Lemonade” (featuring an enraged Tituss Burgess) from “Unbreakable Kimmie Schmidt.”
But, given the current zeitgeist, it’s not surprising that Chance the Rapper was nominated for his Run-d.M.C.–inspired rap tribute to Obama, “Last Christmas,” from “Saturday Night Live,” or that Rachel Bloom was back again with the raunchy “We Tapped That Ass” from “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.” There was even room for the excruciatingly uncomfortable “The Ballad of Claus Jorstad (Devil Stool)” from “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and and the animated burlesque of “Jing-a-Ling-a-Ling” from “Duck the Halls: A Mickey Mouse Christmas Special.”

Competing Emmy drama nominees “This Is Us” and “The Handmaid’s Tale” both held “For Your Consideration” panels on Monday night. But only one provided branded tissues for its guests.
“Now come on: This is more fun than ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ panel, right?” quipped “This Is Us” creator Dan Fogelman.
Taking place on the first night of Emmy voting, Fogelman and the cast of NBC’s hit drama — the only broadcast series nominated for Outstanding Drama Series — gave voters plenty of reasons to consider it — mainly, by crying.

Dr. K is the doctor we all want in our lives -- at least, that's how This Is Us' Gerald McRaney sees it.
On NBC's breakout hit, McRaney plays Dr. Nathan "Dr. K" Katowski, the endearingly sharp-witted obstetrician who delivers Kate and Kevin in 1980, and provides wisdom to their grief-stricken father, Jack, after breaking the news that a third child was stillborn. Dr. K's subsequent monologue, which many have affectionately referred to as "The Lemonade Speech," brought McRaney's character to the forefront as one of the show's most beloved characters -- despite appearing in less than a third of the episodes.
“It didn’t come as a surprise," McRaney told Et of his character's immediate impact. "I sort of felt that way about the character when I first read the pilot script because he’s the kind of doctor that everybody wishes they had, and that kind of father figure for the show, especially for Milo...

After eight films over nearly four decades, Ridley Scott’s “Alien: Covenant” may be proof positive that the time for this franchise has passed. Ridley Scott plans at least two more sequels to the “Prometheus” portion of the “Alien” saga, but current returns make that look like a risky proposition.
“Alien: Covenant” will be one of the franchise’s lowest-grossing entries, second only to 2007’s “Aliens Vs. Predator – Requiem,” which made $52 million domestic in adjusted numbers. Three weeks in, “Alien: Covenant” is at $67 million domestic against a $97 million budget; after Japan and China open, expect it to hit about $300 million worldwide, which means theatrical won’t be enough for it to break even.
Reviews weren’t great for “Alien: Covenant,” but neither were reviews for 2012’s “Prometheus” — Scott’s return to the series after directing “Alien” in 1979 — and that one made over $400 million worldwide. In adjusted numbers,”Prometheus” earned about...

Just a few words about Peter Capaldi's work behind the scenes of Doctor Who...
A lot has inevitably been written over the past day about Peter Capaldi’s departure from Doctor Who. He’s confirmed that he’ll be departing this Christmas, making way for a new Tardis occupant when Chris Chibnall takes over as Doctor Who boss for series 11 of the rebooted show in 2018.
Much of the discussion has been about Capaldi’s stories, and what he’s brought to the role. But something that doesn’t get enough light shone on it is his sheer behind the scenes humanity. The internet is very good at reducing a person to just their on-screen role, but I wanted to share a couple of small things that Capaldi deserves credit for, yet doesn’t seek.
Firstly, his costume as the 12th Doctor.

So, here we are. It’s 2017. The world hasn’t ended, and “Saturday Night Live” is back. Did the episode tackle Trump? Yes, somewhat. Was it a good episode? Not especially. Will you have a clear idea of who Felicity Jones is, and what her brand is, despite the fact that she was nominated for Best Actress just last year and we should probably get her by now? No. But are there still any sketches worth watching? Absolutely.

Host: Felicity Jones

George Michael‘s already massive estate could stand to see up to $10 million more over the next two years as his music soars in popularity in the wake of his death.
The beloved pop legend sold about 100 million albums worldwide during his nearly 40 years of fame, and his estate value is estimated at $125 million — not including the British singer’s art ventures, according to entertainment attorney Donald David, who has represented the estates of Tupac Shakur and TLC’s Lisa “Left Eye” Lopez after their deaths and currently represents the estate of deceased Wu Tang Clan member Russell “Ol’ Dirty Bastard” Jones.

He was a legendary superstar who dazzled the world with his music, style and charisma, but George Michael was also known for his complicated, and often difficult, life, which ended in seclusion on Christmas Day.
“I’m surprised that I’ve survived my own dysfunction, really,” Michael once said of his colorful life.
The 53-year-old singer died of heart failure, his rep told People and Entertainment Weekly. People Magazine pays tribute in this week’s issue to the teen idol-turned pop innovator.

As a general rule of thumb, we love list-making and recapping of the year's significant moments and events but the exception is the work of the grim reaper. Death has claimed so many icons recently, particularly from the music world, that 2016 is starting to feel like a parody of its apocalyptic self as we reach its conclusion.
On Christmas day, of all days considering that one of his most enduring hits is "Last Christmas," George Michael was taken from us. Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou (better known as George Michael) was born in East Finchley London in 1963. By the age of 19 he'd charted his first hit with his friend Andrew Ridgeley (the other half of Wham!) called "Young Guns (Go for It!)". Two years later he was world famous by way of the global smash "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go." Which is when little Nathaniel first fell in love. But that...

George Michael may not have had a discography to rival his fellow peers like Madonna and Prince — he released only five studio albums as a solo artist; three with Wham! — but his influence on pop music is undeniable. He scored two Grammys, eight No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, four MTV VMAs, and sold more than an estimated 100 million records worldwide. With news that the boundary-pushing icon died Sunday at the age of 53, EW is looking back on just a few of the songs that made him so special.

Warning: The following contains spoilers from the Christmas special, “Doctor Who: The Return of Doctor Mysterio.”
’Tis the season for the Doctor to bring good tidings of comfort and joy to our world whilst ridding it of power-hungry alien invaders.
It’s been a year since we closed the book on River Song in 2015’s Christmas special, but in “Doctor Who’s” uniquely timey-wimey way, it picked right back up with the story, albeit 24 years later in Earth time. So in that sense, this wasn’t quite the standalone episode that specials have been in the past, although enough exposition allowed it to act as one. It was a smart move on Steven Moffat’s part since Whovians have been deprived of any new “Who” this year.

The British pop star George Michael, who helped innovate the music video in the 1980s, died on Christmas Day 2016 at age 53. “Last Christmas” (1984) A clean-shaven Michael appears in the video for the 1984 holiday hit — which has been covered many times since and provides a spooky memorial to the songwriter-singer who died on Christmas Day 2016. “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” (1984) Bob Geldof co-wrote and organized an all-star lineup of ’80s stars — including Michael — to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. “I Want Your Sex” (1987) Michael co-starred with then-girlfriend Kathy Jeung for this video — in...

“Saturday Night Live” actors and guests may give it their all to achieve great comedic performances, but it’s really the crew that puts the whole show together. “SNL” gave viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the unseen two-minute set change that went down during the opening credits of the December 16 episode to transform the show’s set from the cold open to Casey Affleck’s monologue stage.
The video begins with Alec Baldwin, John Goodman and Beck Bennett doing their opening sketch and saying “Live from New York, it’s ‘Saturday night!’” The video then goes into what could be the show’s most hectic and anxiety-filled scene change, since they don’t have a commercial break or pre-recorded segment to give them extra time, just the opening credits sequence.

Think Christmas TV has always been warm and fluffy? Think again, as we revisit some disturbing vintage festive specials...
The festive season holds long-held ties to the macabre. From the classic novels of Charles Dickens to the melancholy of the Christmas carol canon, Christmas has always harboured a darker side, lurking beyond the tinsel and mince pies. That role has extended to festive television: for every smiles-and-silliness sitcom special, there’s a programme with an altogether more disturbing spin on the season – be that a dramatic Christmas episode imbued with fear and bloodshed, or a family classic whose ostensibly wholesome charms look questionable in retrospect.

Ah, the over-confidence of youth. It's something every kid seems to possess in regards to any task with which they show the sligthest appitude. Seriously, talk to a kid who just put the dishes away, and they'll tell you they're the best at taking care of the dishes. Catching the football on the first try; might as well get ready for the NFL.
This is particularly true of kids playing video games as they seemingly conquer the computer AI with ease, they feel they can then take on the world. To be fair, however, this is exactly what games are designed to do; make the player feel like a badass who can do anything, especially stuff they wouldn't be able to in the real world. As it is every parent's duty, sometimes you have to put the kids in their place...

That was truly unexpected.
I would never have guessed This Is Us Season 1 Episode 10 would deliver the most intense hour we'd seen to date.
After all, it was our first Christmas with the Pearson family. Surely we were in for some sweet memories, right? Wrong! Although we learned "nothing bad ever happens on Christmas Eve," even that may be coming to an end this year.

This one was even delivered to us a little differently, with our venture into the past coming at the beginning and right at the very end of the hour.
The year was 1989, and although that particular Christmas Eve featured a trip to the emergency room so Kate could have her appendix removed, the focus was more on Randall than Kate, as Dr. K. was also admitted for wrapping his LeSabre around a tree.

Nothing bad happens on Christmas Eve. At least on This Is Us, nothing bad happens on Christmas Eve. This is a mantra that Rebecca came up with in 1989, which all of the Pearson children have repeated year after year, all the way up to present day. But is that really true? In the winter finale, "Last Christmas," Randall has a random encounter with a co-worker at a holiday party, Kate gets a happy surprise and Kevin celebrates the holiday with an unlikely person.

Over the last few years, President Barack Obama has always ensured that the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is a spectacular affair. In 2014, he broke it down with Fifth Harmony, and last year he brought along Reese Witherspoon and Miss Piggy to join in the fun. For his final appearance at the annual ceremony on Thursday night, Barack invited Eva Longoria, Marc Anthony, Chance the Rapper, Kelly Clarkson, and more to help him celebrate the season alongside First Lady Michelle Obama, and their daughter Sasha. The event, which took place at the Ellipse in President's Park, was full of laughter and song and included more than a few adorable moments between the president and the guest of the hour: Santa! They hugged, belted out a few carols, and reminded us all over again of how much we're going to miss the Obama family when they leave the White House. Related:...
