Great history with a strong bias
Great history with a strong bias. Even though this history is imperfect because the person presenting it as a very anti-Catholic point of view, it brings up so many details of bible history that it is useful for study. It will lead me to hours of further study. First I will look at the Apocrypha related to The king James Bible and other Bibles mentioned in the documentary. I found a good wiki site that lists the apocrypha of different segments and faiths so it's a good source of seeing the difference between publications. I'll be looking for good material where they get deep into the decision process used. I always assumed inclusion was based on a need to assert power but I think in some cases there was a sincere attempt to figure out if the material what is the word of God in their view or human inspiration. And in many cases it seemed they did not consider human inspiration to be a bad thing but just that it should be clearly separated. This movie gets into not just the legal issues that controlled the text but also how it was affected by advancements in printing. Realizing it cost a year salary to produce a Bible at one point, it makes sense that presentation of the stories would be from authorities or what we might call preachers.
