Legend of the vitruvian bunny doll
HalilKose13 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
After watching Kezelos' previous short animation 'Zero' a stroke of luck I also made acquainted with The maker which is now among the my best, just as impressive as Zero.

Story begins with a dull bunny makes an effort to create an female in a time limit by sandglass,is instructed by a book and on the wall a drawing which is the bunny version of Da Vinci's 'The Vitruvian Man. While watching I had a false impression that that's just a classic love story short that he is going to be able to revive her and comes to an happy end, happily I was wrong,it can be associated with Doodlebug by Christopher Nolan, both astounds and prospering to amaze.

The maker knows no boundaries, views human reproduction from a creative unconventional standpoint, a matchless work by Christopher Kezelos.

The Circle of Life
Hitchcoc18 March 2021
A rabbit-like creature looks up at an hourglass and realizes that time is running out. He puts together materials and begins to create a recreation of himself. He makes a head with eyes, teeth, ears, and so on. As he works, he sees the sand running through the hourglass. When the thing is finished he must do something to animate it. This is such a complex little film with a striking conclusion. Gorgeous violin piece playing in the background. Don't miss it.

Cycle of a magic birth.
Foreverisacastironmess12325 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
A strange suited rabbit-like being of sackcloth and clay races against time to create a female counterpart of himself by following the instructions of a mysterious tome. He soon does succeed in composing a companion, with the materials around him, but she remains a mere lifeless puppet until he passionately plays the violin for her, and she rises and they gaze into each other's eyes and share a tender embrace. He then sees that the sand of a nearby ornate hourglass is about to run out and passes on the book of 'creation' to her, so that she can create another like he did with her, and then he evaporates into specs of multicoloured light and the hourglass resets itself as she stands about to begin with the book, starting the cycle off all over again... I thought it was all a bit sad and poetic, all that effort building up to just a few brief precious moments and then it's all gone like dust in your hand and you must begin again, if you're lucky.. To me it rather felt like a very intelligent poignant metaphor for the process of love! Or just plain the circle of life if you will, each is given the breath of life by those who went before and in turn give it to those who follow, with no real beginning or end, and, depending on what your outlook and philosophy about it may be, no real purpose to the endless cycle of life, death, and life again other than for life to perpetuate itself... So I thought that the creatures weren't exactly what you'd call lovable, in fact they're rather horrid, I didn't like the ugly human teeth that made them almost creepy, that and the too-long lower limbs, but it did make them stand out and regardless of character design, you get the point of the short. It's very beautifully animated and presented, it's stop-motion maybe mixed in with a little puppetry? The music is beautiful and gives it a real grand and bittersweet kind of tone. It felt like faded grandeur, like scuffed and dirty velvet, or a tattered and torn old royal red carpet! I loved that awesome mysterious room, it was like a sorcerer's workshop. I wonder if the creatures originally built it or if they were only some manner of experiment in futility. They have all the resources they need except for the one that was the most precious...time. It's only a wee little fable and a tad on the bland side somewhere in my opinion, but it is a very worthwhile and thoughtful fantasy animated short that's worth seeking out if you can make the time... Adios! X

Very good movie

Warning: Spoilers
Excellent movie representing life. It holds your attention and you don't know what's happening until the very end when the timer runs out. (spoiler: the timer is the timing down of the bunny's life).

The bunny doll is quite cute, and the stuffed "animation" is unique (see the creator's "Zero" for more information"). Exciting, good soundtrack, and amazing ending. It also fooled me into thinking that the guy was creating a girlfriend for himself when in reality he was continuing his species' existence. Heh, the hints are nice. Although I don't recommend watching the trailer since it's like 1/5 of the length of the film, and reveals the very core plot which consistutes the film. Honestly, why would you need a trailer. You'd simply waste a minute of your life. Just spent the 4:30 (approximately, not including credits) minutes necessary to complete the movie. :P

Is decent enough to beat out full-feature movies that have many inconsistencies within them.

A beautiful and nostalgic fairy tale
silver_onyx23 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This short animation film begins with a stuffed bunny waking up in a beautiful little room, with a book before him and an hourglass which shows him how much time he has left to create another stuffed bunny, this time a female, reading the instructions in the book. When she is ready another problem seems to appear since she is incapable of waking up.He tries talking to her, teaching her until he realizes that he has to play the violin for her. She finally wakes up, just in time for him to hug her, give her the same book he used to create her and disappear in a colorful mist. It's her time now, when the hourglass turns, to create the next stuffed bunny in line.

It's the moments that count

Warning: Spoilers
"The Maker" is a 2011 5-minute short film written and directed by Christopher Kezelos. The main character here is a rabbit puppet and he keeps sewing until he has finished a female for himself. The whole animation style tells us already that there is something more than just romance and family to this little movie. It certainly has a bit of a creepy touch to it, even if the female puppet did not turn out evil in the end. But what is the role of the hourglass we keep seeing. This little film needs a bit to become interesting, but near the end it's really good. I wished we could have seen the female rabbit start sewing as well as an ending. Anyway, even without it, I recommend this little movie, especially to those who like their animation a bit darker in terms of style and atmosphere. Good watch and it sucks to see Kezelos hasn't made any movie after this one. He sure has talent and I hope he will get back to making films. Until then, I give this one a thumbs up and hope you go see it.

Whoa!

This is a really WELL DONE short-film and totally worth your 5 mins; that applies to me, at least. This left me wanting more. I don't know what to make of it, dunno what the message is, I want answers! And I want them now!!

It's amazing how much work went into making a 5 min video and content like this makes you feel that filmmaking is NOT easy.

Nothing but respect!

Pretty neat
Jeremy_Urquhart20 November 2023
This short film runs for about five minutes, and packs a good amount into that brief runtime. It's about a strange-looking rabbit kind of creature making something similar to itself in appearance, with that not really becoming clear until the end. At that point, you're intentionally left with some questions, and forced to think back about the whole thing and pull whatever meanings you'd like from it.

I liked the style of it all more than what the story ended up being, as it's very well-presented and edited, and it uses music well throughout. Given it's so short (I've probably spent more time trying to write a review about it than I spent watching it), and that it's on YouTube, I feel like it's worth checking out for anyone who likes unusual animation.

The greatest short film you never heard of
AnonymousbutDilpreet00220 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The lead character looks ugly and cute at the same type. Except for this David Lynch type character, I like everything in this film.

The film starts with a rabbit looking creature making a creature like him. We see a sand clock, showing that his time is running out and he has to be quick to make his offspring. The music used is brilliant. It's pleasing, even without the video actually.

When he successfully made it, they meet and hug for few seconds before he dies. Then we see the clock again, the voilin starts playing again ,telling us the process has started again. Brilliant.

Confusing, Yet Satisfying.. Make Of It What You Want.
tiskec18 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is really strange. It's this weird short that (I'm guessing) is supposed to be sending you a message about life. When I first seen the weird, deformed looking rabbit thing, all I could do is say to myself, "what the hell is that thing?"

The "rabbit thing" builds itself a girlfriend out of spare parts, sews it up, and makes it look like a girly-ish version of itself. It looked as if he was trying to beat the hour glass timer that all of a sudden just tipped upside down in the start of the film. It seemed when he was done with her, he only had a very little time to spend with "her." So, it gave the plans to her, so she could create her own before all the sand drained from the hour glass. When the hour glass ran out, the weird thing went "poof" in the air.

I think this short is trying to tell you that life is short, and to cherish the ones you love.

My opinion
julinebaumard28 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First, this movie was made by Christopher Kezelos and inspired with stories of Tim Burton. The story is quite strange, it's the life of a creature that looks like a rabbit. This one is trying to complete an important creation before the time is up. Then, this short film is original because it makes the scary atmosphere. Colors are dark and the character didn't have emotions but it hurts because he is alone and his end of creation was difficult. The other gothic element is the shrill music because it is the violon which is also used to give life to the second character. I made my opinion on the moral of this story which tells the life that is to say the creation, the education, the love and the death delimited by the time. I really liked this animated film because it is gothic but also joyful.

Hop to it.
Pjtaylor-96-13804427 June 2023
This enigmatic stop-motion short focuses on a rabbit-like creature who begins the elusive process of creation when a mysterious sand timer turns itself over. Though I feel as though the picture's destination (and overall theme) is pretty evident from its opening moments, there's no denying the thick and almost uneasy air of ambiguity that surrounds each element of the narrative. Everything is just slightly off, uncanny but not distressing, and the creature design is at once cute and creepy. The visuals are very Tim Burton-esque and they're complimented nicely by a wonderful violin-based score that weaves its way into the very fabric of the film itself. The short is simple and to the point, yet it's draped in a palpable atmosphere and is compelling from its opening moments. It's really charming in its own, oddball way and it's even somewhat profound. 'The Maker (2011)' is a beautiful effort overall.

Very cool

Very cool! 'The Maker' may only last for about 4 minutes, though it sure does squeeze a lot in in that tiny run time. The stop-motion is exquisite, the music superb. The story is, in the end, simple but rather good. Credit to Christopher Kezelos & Co. I admittedly haven't seen many at all (~54), but this is the best short I've seen thus far.
