Too close to home

Warning: Spoilers
This is a movie where a hankie or box of Kleenex may be set aside. I couldn't help but wonder just how much stronger this movie would have been if it was a drama instead of a light hearted comedy. While this movie hits close to home for me it covers the subject matter in a way to soften the blow. John Heard was a great actor and was able to do dramatic and comedy movies easily. Cindy Williams handle's the role with ease as the terminally ill wife and together they lean on each other Mark Famiglietti as their police officer son adds to the mix.

A couple learns that the wife is terminal with 6 months left, to help with medical expenses the husband tries getting fund's to help pay but faces closing doors each time. He then decides to rob a bank and recruits three buddies. While this has been done before in the past this movie uses comedy bits to lighten the climax. But as I watched it the movie seemed to struggle with holding my attention. If this had been a drama the outcome would have been much more powerful than it was. Cindy Williams who seems to disappear after a movie holds her own against John Heard.

While this movie does have it's many flaw's of events that would only happen in movies it adds to the comedy traits. I would have preferred this being a drama instead to show what older people face and the resources that are not there for them. In all it works on its own level and the cooky class of characters helps. It can definitely help younger kids cope with death without traumatizing them and keep adults entertained as well.

It's a decent movie that does it's job.

A Relatable Joy!

What a lovely film!!

This is a story you can enjoy with your whole family. And though it touches on truly, challenging topics (death, health care hardships, financial unfairness) it does so respectfully and in a family friendly manner.

Walter, John Heard's character, is infinitely likable! As are the majority of the other characters. The laughs are mostly comfortable and at times a much needed release from a difficult situation.

A true joy, Stealing Roses is a film about love, moments, and adventure told in a refreshingly relatable way. I loved it!
