- It's Thanksgiving, and Cathy and Paul are hosting their first ever Thanksgiving dinner with their new extended family, which includes not only Adam and Sean, but also Rebecca, Andrea, Mykail and if he accepts Lee, which he does. Cathy wants it to be a non-traditional meal in that besides the free-range, organic turkey Sean is in charge of getting, the rest of the meal will consist of whatever she feels like making, which includes a special dessert from Lee's childhood. The dinner has the potential to be marred in many ways, which includes Paul contemplating confronting Mykail about what he saw Mykail do at the store. But many of the dinner attendees truly do have something to be thankful for, which is for Cathy the fact that the drugs seem to be working, which she hesitates to tell Lee if only because the same has yet to happen for him. Some of those other thankful items will be truly more so if the reaction from a significant other matches. But some unexpected things happen over the course of the day, both good and bad.—Huggo
- Cathy knocks on Lee's door, excited to show him her missing fingernail. He opens the door with a neck crick, sweaty from running five miles. She asks if he's had any weird side effects yet. He says no. She says she hasn't either.
She asks him what he's doing for Thanksgiving. "There's a hard-boiled egg in my fridge that's not going to eat itself," he says. Cathy invites him over. Sean's getting an eco-friendly turkey and Cathy plans to like any side she likes.
She asks Lee what he lusts after. He has a childhood memory of Basque cake and she promises to look up a recipe and make it.
At work in the electronic store, Paul is angry about getting a retroactive hospital bill for $3,000, but he's very excited to try deep frying a turkey. Mik is joining them later for dinner, too. He's excited to see Andrea again. Paul watches Mik as he leaves for his shift, stopping off in the stock closet to put several boxes of iPhones in his bag.
At the house, Andrea hooks Cathy up with fake nails. Cathy makes Andrea and Rebecca promise not to tell Lee about her side effects. She doesn't want him to feel left out. Rebecca notices Cathy's engagement ring and admires it.
It was Cathy's mother's and her dad gave it to Paul. As soon as he gave it to her, Cathy thought "oh no, not mom's ugly ring." Rebecca lusts after it and Cathy promises to leave it to her in her will. Rebecca wants a ring to make it legit.
Sean and Adam arrive with the turkey. It's alive. Sean grabs a cleaver and prepares to take its head off.
Lee arrives with a box full of wine. Cathy introduces Andrea. "Hi, I'm fat and you're gay so we're supposed to get along," she says.
Outside, Sean takes the turkey out of the cage with Adam. Sean says a little thanks. Sean tries to get Adam to kill it. They argue over who's going to kill it.
Sean grabs the cleaver and Adam strokes the bird and says "goodbye, Marty." Sean objects that they can't kill it now that it has a name.
They start arguing and the bird makes a run for it.
Inside, Andrea and Lee boogie in the living room. Mik arrives and gives Andrea and a gold necklace. She says she loves it and he announces that he loves her. She tells him he can't, because they've only gone on two dates. Then she accuses him of trying to play her just to get into her pants. She walks off. Before Mik has time to process, Sean and Adam come back without the bird. Paul's peanut oil is frying out back and Rebecca is getting lightheaded from not eating. Cathy worries about the escaped bird, left to fend for itself. Sean assures her it was fast and had a plan.
Mik is left alone in the entry with Sean, and explains that something crazy just happened with Andrea. Sean says that's typical for holidays. He gives Mik a condensed version of American history, including small pox. "The only reason I'm even acknowledging this trail wreck of a holiday is because I'm on a mood stabilizers," Sean says.
He assures Cathy that people are filling up on nuts. Cathy blames him. Lee tells her it's not a big deal and she's acting like it's going to be her last Thanksgiving. She assures her she'll be around next year.
Paul comes in looking for something to fry. Lee suggest macaroni and cheese balls. Cathy donates her macaroni for the cause.
Paul and Lee oversee the fryer outside. Lee tells him about a memorable Thanksgiving hooking up with two guys. Paul realizes he's always been too blissed out on turkey to have sex on Thanksgiving. They run out of macaroni so Paul puts the insurance bill in the fryer. Mik joins them and Lee goes for more wine.
Left alone with Mik, Paul asks him about the cell phones. Mik says they were gifts for friends, but Paul tells him her shouldn't be stealing. Mik tells Paul there's a line item in the corporation's budget to allow for 3 perfect loss or theft and he's only proving them right. He asks Paul if he can look away. Paul looks at his frying insurance bill and asks if he can be cut in.
Adam finds Andrea hanging decorations out back and they immediately start arguing. She tells him guys like him who just want to get in girl's pants make her sick. He tells her she's way too annoying to just hang out with for sex, so Mik must really like her.
Paul finds Cathy in the kitchen and asks if they can have sex. Cathy fends him off and announces dinner is served.
They all sit down at the table. Cathy takes pictures and says she doesn't even really love turkey and is more of a stuffing girl. She asks if anyone else has anything they want to be honest about. Paul announces he honestly wants to get laid and is touching his wife under the table. Adam announces he's honestly disgusted and wishes he was at a friend's house. Mik says he's grateful to be there and wanted to hear his girlfriend say she loved him, but that's clearly not going to happen and that's OK.
Andrea processes for a moment then throws her napkin at Adam. She says it's his fault she reacted badly. Because of him she thought every guy was a slimeball. She tells Mik she loves him, too and they make out over the stuffing.
This leads to Rebecca telling Sean she loves him. "You're such a crazy nutjob but you never lie, I trust every word that comes out of your mouth," she says.
She gets down on one knee and starts to propose, but he leaps out of his chair and beats her two it. In the middle of the warm, loving moment, Rebecca turns to Cathy and asks if she can have her ring, since Cathy promised it to her anyway and she doesn't like it.
Cathy points out she's not dead yet. Paul is surprised to learn she doesn't like her ring. Rebecca says they need a recycled ring anyway.
Cathy relents and takes it off her finger. In the process, one of her fake nails comes off. Lee sees it. She tells him she didn't want him to feel bad. Lee says she's not worried it's her last Thanksgiving, she's worried it's his. He gets angrier and angrier, citing the fact he's lived for 12 years and through eight clinical trials and the joke is actually on her: the trial won't cure her, it'll just give her a little more time. He says he's glad, because she's clearly not ready to go.
Paul tells Lee it's time to leave and he goes. Rebecca doesn't feel well and Sean takes her home. Adam looks out the window and sees Marty the turkey is back. Cathy gives him the stink eye.
She picks up the cleaver and marches outside. She stalks him down and brings him in bloody. "Pluck it, gut it, we eat at midnight," she announces.
They hear sirens outside and look to see an ambulance pulling up for Rebecca.
