Some good ideas, but it doesn't come together
robinhio84_18 April 2023
Risky choice taking Islam as a red treat of your movie. Unfortunately it doesn't pay off at all. The recitation of the holy Qu'ran feels of and taking place where the bible wpuld be mlre fitting.

It's very interesting to see Java, Indonesia take center stage. But the movie is trying to many things without having a solid script or well thought out screenplay. So with that good acting, decor and even an ok script kinda fall through.

The movie has too many story gaps and at one point implodes with trying to make the story comem around. Too much suspense after a very decent start without going anywhere.

Who should watch this: anyone interested in seeing a somewhat not totally terrible Indonesian horror flick. But truth said, no one on the planet will miss out for not watching this.

Doppelgängen Demons
I don't think this was nearly as bad as all the scathing reviews are making it out to be at all. There was a really interesting story here with solid spook factor that got a little muddied by maybe a bit too much going on.

The sequence of events throughout this story were a little bumpy. It generally felt disjointed and there wasn't much finesses when attempting to weave a smooth story with cohesive transitions. It was very much that kind of movie that confuses you to then explain itself later for that "ah ha" moment. I think some of the confusion could also be bits and pieces getting lost in translation.

Regardless of this I really did enjoy this movie for what it was, granted I am a bit biased towards Indonesian horror. They made it successfully creepy and atmospheric with an engaging story. I think it would have bennifited from a bit more focus, editing and a shorter run time but it was for sure a solid watch. 6.5 rounding to a 6. Would recommend.

"Toss it & surrender yourself"
chand-suhas16 April 2023
An evil teacher is sexually assaulting his students and more than that want to control their Qorins which he tricks the girls to summon by forcing them to take a certain test. The evil teacher also seeks full control over each of the Qorins and turn them into his followers to gain all the power. Now Qorins are Jinns which each individuals will have and once summoned, they are the ones to push an individual to commit an evil deed. So the teacher finds the helpless girls at the boarding school a easier way to misuse them and control their respective Qorins. So it is upto two strong girls to fight back and even save the rest of the girls. How they do it forms the story.

It's a low budget horror film with a very slow narrative and barely any blood. The scares are there but the slow narrative makes it a lengthy watch and overall it is a mixed result. The motive behind the teacher's need to summon the qorins is pretty straight forward and even his hatred towards his father in law amplifies his greed for power. Adding to that, him being a pervert assaulting the girls. The slow narrative meant to build up the events for the horror to be unleashed but it just loses the impact. It is the performances by two lead actresses who fight back that makes the story bit interesting.

Overall it was a dull watch which could've been better with a tighter screenplay.

Another unprepared Indonesian horror movie
aldysalim19 April 2023
When it comes to assessing a hyper local horror movie, there are several factors that can make or break the overall experience for a viewer. While the cinematic elements of a film, such as color grading and set design, may be visually impressive, they alone cannot save a movie that falls short in other key areas. Unfortunately, this is the case with the horror movie in question.

Despite its stunning visual presentation, the film fails to deliver a compelling story that is truly terrifying. The script feels unprepared and lacks the necessary depth to draw the viewer in, leaving them disconnected from the characters and their experiences. As a result, the horror elements of the movie fall flat, failing to elicit any real fear or suspense. I am myself not feeling it at all.

Ultimately, this movie is a disappointing example of a horror film that fails to deliver on its promises, leaving viewers feeling underwhelmed and unsatisfied. Waste my time.

A boring disappointment...
paul_haakonsen14 April 2023
I hadn't heard about this 2022 Indonesian horror movie titled "Qorin" before 2023, as I had the opportunity to sit down and watch it. I liked the movie's cover, and thus I picked it up. And with it being an Asian horror movie that I hadn't already seen, of course I managed to find the time to sit down and watch it.

However, writers Lele Laila and Ginanti Rona failed to put together a storyline for the movie that entertained me. The narrative was too monotonous and there weren't enough scary stuff in the movie to really keep the movie interesting. And it didn't help one bit that all the characters in the story were essentially just one and the same.

I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie. And whether or not the actresses in the movie performed well or not was rather difficult to distinguish, as all the female characters in the movie were essentially just cut from the same cloth; they all looked and acted the same way.

Director Ginanti Rona's 2022 movie was a disappointing movie experience, and not one I would recommend for fans of the Asian horror cinema. There are far better Indonesian horror movies readily available.

My rating of "Qorin" lands on a three out of ten stars.

Don't waste your time!!
jeremiahpatience21 April 2023
Don't just waste your time, watch something else, anything!! The movie is boring, worst horror movie ever made 😂. And I'm trying to make a review, I need to put 600 words.. anyway DONT WATCH, many horror movies to watch rather than this.. not worth the time, it clueless, no storyline, it's just all over the place. The more you watch, the more confusing it is. I have never rated a movie but I decided to do this because it's bad and doesn't deserve to be on Netflix. And the annoying part is, it's soooo Long. And you get bored, but I finished it and it's not advisable for you to watch if you are an horror freak like me.

Promising first half and then it takes a nose dive
chursyheli17 April 2023
This was my first Indonesian horror movie and must say that the start was amazing. It starts building up expectations but the second half of the movie feels like a drag.

Most of the scenes are in dark making it difficult to understand what's going on, the story goes from being great, to mediocre and finally a joke. There is so much confusion that it's difficult to focus on the plot (if that exists at that point) and understand what's going on.

The last minutes were watched on fast forward because I just wanted it to be over.

For what started as something that will haunt me for a while, ended up as a movie I would forget about as soon as it finished.

A weak supernatural thriller
raifuzz29 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The premise of this movie was as good as any Indonesian horror movie: a secluded all girls boarding school on religious study. There's sexual abuse, personal issues and trauma intertwined in the story; which was interesting in developing the characters.

On the main premise of the movie: Qorin or the ritual to call out Djinn. It was interesting at first but not well executed beyond just a few glimpse here and there. There was not a real story behind calling out the djinns other than the main antagonist's reason to prove his father in law wrong.

There is a good part of the story that touches on sexual abuse that happens in boarding schools and making the students submissive.

Overall execution is weak. The story drags a lot abd not interesting. I'd suggest not to watch unless you have nothing else to do.

A solid religious horror film from Indonesia
Tweekums18 April 2023
This Indonesian horror film is set in a remote girls' boarding school. New girl Yolanda is put under the guidance of Zahra, a senior girl with a good reputation who always obeys her teachers. It is clear that the girls are being raised as Muslims but there is something suspicious about their teacher. He instructs the girls to perform a ceremony to summon their Qorin Jinns... doppelgängers. They are wary but ultimately do as instructed. It isn't long before strange things start to occur. The teacher now has power over them and his intentions are far from righteous. The girls will have to be strong and hold firm to their faith if they are to defeat him.

This might not be the best horror film I've seen but it was enjoyable. It had plenty of creepy moments and a few good scares. The story is effective even if, like me, you aren't familiar with the culture. While it may not be in the same class, the film this reminded me of most was 'The Exorcist'. Like that classic the evil is confronted by religious faith and a willingness to risk all... there is even a scene where a girl does the famous 'spider walk'! The cast does a solid job and the special effects are pretty good. On the down side things are a bit too dark at times making it hard to see what is going on. Overall a decent enough film that I'd recommend to fans of religious horror films looking for something set somewhere different.

These comments are based on watching the film in Indonesian with English subtitles.

An HONEST REVIEW
nmalik-9975910 May 2023
Well, it was just a bad movie, wasn't it?

To start, as a random Muslim who ended up watching this film, I hope that non-Muslims or even young Muslims who aren't very well-read, are intelligent enough to understand that this is a poor depiction of Islamic schools and what goes on in (most of) them.

Moving on to the film itself, I believe after the opening which was decent, the people behind the film missed out on something that could've been done in a much better fashion. All of a sudden, you're thrown into a pool of suspense, without quite clearly understanding WHAT and WHY. The film does not do a very good job at explaining the story, and consequently, the plot ends up being all over the place. Also, there appeared to be two main characters, and I'm not quite sure what about their personalities would have made me root for either of them. Overall, it felt like a concoction of ideas, as if the writer or the director just thought he had a couple of brilliant notions that he just could not choose between, so might as well put them all together. A big mess.

Additionally, the make-up and little bit of CGI used were both awful. And what in the world was that dreadful "villain laugh" from the antagonist towards the end?

The one positive I can extract is that the cinematography was rather impressive. Oh, and the acting was actually pretty good, especially from the actors playing the two main girls.

In conclusion, would I watch this a second time? No. Do I recommend you to watch it a first time? No.
