    Too brief

I loved the original Belgian version of the show (well, the first two seasons before it went Politically Correct) a d the first season of this remake was good too but this season has struggled.

There are some good moments and this is one of the better episodes of this series but the biggest problem really is that the show is shorter than the original and insufficient time seems to be given to the cases, concentrating more on the relationships of the regular cast so insufficient time is really given to Jasper's conclusions.

There were good moments here, setting things up for the season finale.

    Another fine episode.

Caretaker Shaun Hallett is accused of killing his employer Mr Soames, Jasper is not directly involved in the case, instead delivers the case to his class.

Definitely a different presentation, they have certainly done things a little differently in this second series, this is yet another episode with a slightly different formula.

I enjoyed the case itself, and the mystery, but it was the politics and goings on of the team itself that made this one so watchable.

I love Miles Jupp, though I'd argue be was somewhat underused here, as is so often the case, it's Ben Miller that stands out.

On the whole, I think I've enjoyed this second series more than the first, this was very good once again, 8/10.

    The Trial

A nearby high profile murder case that is about to begin is the basis of Professor T's lectures to his students.

Shaun Hallett was arrested for murdering his employer. He was working as a caretaker for the family whose husband had been killed.

Professor T is convinced that a miscarriage of justice is about to take place. This might not go down well with his colleagues in the murder squad. Professor T was not involved in the original murder investigation as he was not a consultant for them then.

There is a lot of playing around with the television cop show tropes. Ingrid Snares chastises the Professor when he claims he knows who the murderer is.

As the Professor's investigation is contemporaneous to the trial, it therefore gives it a different spin. However it did not look like a difficult mystery to solve.

Once again it makes the promotion chasing detectives look a bit clueless. Here they just went for the main suspect and never considered anyone else.

It is called 'The Trial', but it appears to depict a trial in the USA, not in England. The courtroom is laid out like a USA one, they refer to the "witness stand" (USA term - it is the witness box in England, and witnesses do not lounge in an armchair, but stand. to give evidence) the accused should be in the dock, with two uniformed dock officers to keep him in place, but is wandering free, and the judge should be addressed as "Your Ladyship" not "Your Honour". Clearly made for USA audiences.
