An Interesting Portrait. But Definitely Not DB Cooper.
meddlecore27 April 2023
When all is said and done...it's doubtful you'll leave the film convinced.

If only because there are other claimants who have more established ties to the crime, and established evidence.

When all this man has is a tall tale he used to dupe his friends and get in women's pants.

What makes his story most suspect, is not only the timing of the claim (he clearly tried to use to get out of an aggravated assault charge)...but the fact that he essentially claims that the whole thing was pulled off on a whim, without any planning, or viable knowledge of the aircraft industry whatsoever.

Which makes you wonder why they ever even believed him at all.

That being said...the recreations in the film are quite well done...even if the investigation it attempts to cover is kind of paltry.

So it has that going for it at least.

Even if the rest is a bit underwhelming.

Fails to deliver on its intriguing premise.
FilmFanatic202310 December 2022
In "I Am D. B. Cooper," director T. J. Regan attempts to unravel the mystery of the infamous skyjacker who hijacked a plane in 1971 and was never seen again. The movie mixes documentary and fictional elements, following the story of real-life bail bondsmen Carlos and Mike Rocha as they try to track down D. B. Cooper's loot. However, the movie is weighed down by tedious, uninteresting characters and a confusing, unengaging story. The inclusion of fictionalized interviews with D. B. Cooper and singer Rita Coolidge only serve to distract from the already thin plot. Overall, "I Am D. B. Cooper" is a disappointing and forgettable attempt to shed light on a fascinating historical event.

I wasted $5 so you don't have to
GoSpursGo79 December 2022
As an avid DB Cooper aficionado, I will watch everything that even mentions the name. When I watched the trailer for this a few weeks ago I knew immediately it was going to be garbage. Some people are awful liars, and the subject in this "documentary" is one of those people. It's so apparent he's looking for fame that there is zero need for a polygraph. 300000 years of human evolution is all anyone with a functioning brain needs to see through his absurd claims. Half this film is made up of actors pretending to speak for people who they clearly didn't get the dialogue from. The only way I can recommend this is if you enjoy unintentional comedy. Otherwise...save your money. It's that preposterous.

Just terrible

Awful acting - no interesting actual facts. Zero actual evidence. 'Dramedy' at best. Do not waste $5 on this movie like we did, it's more like a bad cast of actor-wannabes instead of dramatic portrayers of real-life events. The title is misleading and as someone who has been following the DB Cooper mystery for the past 20 years - this was an absolute joke.

Rodney is a likable and potentially convincing protagonist - he's not the problem. The problem is with the producers and directors of this film and the fact they thought people who've actually been following the db copper case would enjoy this whatsoever.

white trash talk
SnoopyStyle25 April 2023
Habitual criminal Rodney Bonnifield tells bounty hunters Carlos Rocha and Mike Rocha that he is the real DB Cooper. He has a tale to tell. In 1971, DB Cooper parachuted with $200k loot from a passenger plane and into infamy as the only unsolved plane jacking FBI case. Rodney is an overweight white guy. He recounts his criminal life with ease and the group sets off to find the rest of the missing loot.

Here's the deal. I'm certain that Rodney isn't DB Cooper. That doesn't mean that I'm not taken by his tall tales. It's white trash fun like a lot of 'reality' TV. I have come to accept that most psychopaths are undetectable liars. In fact, people with experience dealing with criminals can often be overconfident in their truth-seeking skills and get tricked. This is stuff of rundown bars and poor trailer parks.

"Documentary" disguised as bad acting
Mrs_Giberson5 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Movie is based on no actual factual information. The gentleman, Rodney, whom claims to be D. B would have been 19 at the time of the skyjacking (according to the timeline). The real D. B was suspected to be older that 19. The information that Rodney was presenting was nothing more than what anyone could find a a simple internet search.

Overall, it was a decent story based loosely on facts. As a documentary, it did nothing to convince me that the real D. B was being interviewed. This is definitely movie disguised as a documentary with bad acting storytelling.

Spoiler alert: Rodney never presented a photo of himself in 1971 to compare to the sketches of D. B. or successfully produce the missing money.

TOTALLY Mindless Drivel!
puterdood21 April 2023
I realize this is a mockumentary, but it was not entertaining at all. I was expecting it to be a little outlandish, maybe a parody or spoof of all the DB Cooper videos out there, but this was a complete waste of all resources.

I would go so far as to saying this is false advertising. I can't believe they were expecting people to pay to watch this fiasco. Instead, they should be paying people to watch it!

This so-called movie will surely go down in history as one of the lowest points in not only video history, but also in human history. Years from now, in movie-making classes at universities everywhere, students should be required to watch this mindless drivel in order to learn what not to do - and avoid extremely true reviews like the one you are reading now!

The Unreliable Narrator
Preacher-622 April 2023
A fascinating look into one of the many people who have claimed to be DB Cooper. A mix of interviews and recreations focus not on facts, but rather what Rodney Bonnifield knows as "his story."

Rodney might be DB Cooper, or a liar, or a kook. The filmmakers leave it to us to decide. The title, after all, is "I Am DB Cooper," not "He is DB Cooper."

The recreations are not based on established elements of the case but instead on Bonnifield's storytelling. He is what is called in fiction "an unreliable narrator" - a narrator who is not stating facts of the story, but rather telling their version which may not be objectively true.

I do not believe Rodney was DB Cooper. But I was left wondering if maybe Rodney believes he was.

Not Worth Your Time
sirdouglasm2 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
To say that watching this was a complete waste of time would be a massive understatement. No compelling evidence whatsoever, just a lot of B. S. from a guy that's a compulsive liar and too much time on his hands. Are we really expected to believe that this guy carried out the only unsolved skyjacking in U. S. history on a whim - without advance planning, research, experience, or necessary skills to survive the jump? Then on top of that, he buries the money but doesn't go back to retrieve it for 45+ years. It's sad that the bail bondsmen believed any of this let alone a producer. This story is a complete farce - don't waste your time watching it.

100% not
lxadmc2 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This guy claims to be D. A. (DB) but was born in 1952? So he was 19 when he did this? NOPE. All of the things he cites can easily be found within 15-20 minutes of research. His explanation of how he got the name Dan Cooper is also incorrect. There is no way he would bury $8800 AND the remaining $190K not far away. After all that effort and getting away would you leave it all behind!? The only bright side is the confirmation phone call with a family member stating he is making the entire story up.

I've been researching the DB case for over a decade. This poor old fat soul just looking for his 'fake' 15 minutes.

Entertaining beyond belief!!!
marinrocha8 January 2023
Wow! Such a wild ride this film took us on!!! Allowed us to explore a different idea of who DB Cooper is and showed us a new face who not only claimed to be him but had the exact details to prove it. Enjoy it for yourself, trust me. Besides, that, what else could you really ask for, plane hijackings, live music, and a true love story. It's everything you want in a movie. I honestly think most people are taking this too seriously, just sit back & ride the ride... ignore the haters. This has been a 50+ year mystery and FINALLY someone put an entertaining spin on it. Rodney Bonnefield is DB Cooper!

Intriguing!
jennholland-4979613 December 2022
Just when we thought the infamous story about the unidentified man who hijacked Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 305, a Boeing 727 on November 24, 1971 couldn't get any weirder. It does! I love how the film intertwined fiction into this documentary. It was a brilliant mix to give the audience a glimpse into what possibly went down back in 1971 paired with a fascinating documentary twist of current day Rodney Bonnifield claiming to be DB Cooper!!! I was hooked on hearing everything Rodney Bonnifield had to say. He was an interesting character who knew such specific details some you could read about and some you could not!
