Colorful hot air balloons float majestically over the spectacular sights of Luxor as we home in on two U.S. couples enjoying the fabulous views. Our protagonist, Dylan Fontaine is a wealthy thirty-year-old acting-CEO of his U.S. Congressman father's multinational mining company. Dylan, bored with being his father's puppet, has political ambitions of his own but he and his wife Alexa's marriage is failing. Alexa hopes the trip of a lifetime serves as a second honeymoon and fixes their relationship in advance of Dylan's run for political office.

Alexa also invites her former college friend Amber and her husband Jake. He and Dylan were close friends at school despite very different backgrounds and their relationship became distant during Jake's military service in Iraq. On his return from his final tour the wounded veteran and skilled martial artist worked security for Congressman Fontaine Sr.

Dylan and Alexa are generous hosts, paying for everyone's entire vacation costs. Amber is truly grateful but Jake chafes at being treated like a 'charity case' by a friend who was simply born into wealth.

Alexa and Jake show hints of intimacy with their closeness gradually noticed by their respective partners. Tensions rise as the couples visit various historical sites including The Valley of the Kings and the Luxor Temple then embark on a 5-night Nile charter cruise aboard a riverboat. While underway, the boat's owner, Captain Amaros, docks unexpectedly to pick up two strangers. Dylan becomes fixated on a stunning young woman who boards the boat. Safiya, an exotic beauty from Spain, is accompanied by her Egyptian partner, Darius, an aggressive sort with an overly possessive nature.

During the journey, Safiya tempts the 'involuntarily celibate' protagonist, Dylan. Her flirting evolves into a stolen kiss and Dylan's heart is further stolen when he discovers Darius is physically abusive to Safiya. Soon, Dylan and Safiya are in the throes of lust, but Dylan, still keen to save his marriage, pulls away before consummating their illicit relationship.

Using a hidden camera with Safiya's knowledge, Darius contrives a blackmail scam and edits together footage to make it appear Dylan has been unfaithful. For $3 million worth of Congressman Fontaine's diamonds, Darius will refrain from sharing the video with Alexa and the American voters.

With Dylan's career in jeopardy, Jake offers to kill Darius and informs Dylan of a past hit job carried out under similar circumstances for Dylan's father. Dylan reluctantly agrees to the plan and promises Jake the diamonds as payment.

Dylan is shadowed by Jake as he makes his way through the busy Aswan market on the way to visit a shady gem merchant with ties to the Congressman. After obtaining the cache of diamonds, Dylan slips out the back door, eludes Jake and meets Safiya. She tearfully apologizes for the honey trap and her part in the scheme - coerced by Darius for her part in the charade. To ensure her compliance, Darius has denied access to her young daughter, now living in Cairo. She also reveals the horrible secret to Dylan that Alexa and Jake are lovers - the ones behind the entire plot.

Finally then back on the boat, and with trust in short supply, Dylan attempts to set Jake and Darius against each other by telling Darius that Jake has agreed to kill him for the diamonds. In this climactic scene, the fate of each is decided. Will Dylan succeed in his plan to escape the blackmail plot and also help free Safiya from her crisis, or will he and Safiya suffer a violent end at the hands of Darius or Jake?
