Naya Rivera's Son Josey 'Welled Up' Watching Footage of His Late Mother, Ryan Dorsey Says
Image
Naya Rivera‘s ex-husband Ryan Dorsey is preserving her memories with their son Josey.

The 41-year-old actor described Josey‘s reaction to seeing footage of his late mother in the 2011 musical documentary Glee: The 3D Concert Movie.

“He sat there and he watched the whole movie, and you could see his eyes welling up a little bit,” Ryan told People in a new interview.

“But he’s a strong boy, and he has a lot of content and episodes. His mom will live forever. I think that’s a silver lining of this terrible situation,” he added.

Naya tragically drowned in July 2020 in Lake Piru in Ventura County, Calif, at the age of 33. She and Ryan were married from 2014-2018, and welcomed Josey in September 2015.

Ryan also revealed other ways in which he helps celebrate Naya‘s life with Josey.

‘Glee’ Cast Shares Unreleased Naya Rivera Song 3 Years After Her Death
Image
Nearly three-and-a-half years since Naya Rivera’s shocking and untimely death, a previously unreleased recording that the actress and singer made will help raise money for charity. Rivera recorded “Prayer for the Broken,” a dramatic ballad about rising above adversity, in 2012. “This is a prayer for the broken, for those who are afraid,” she sings over a mellow piano line. “This is a cry for this brave world, so beautiful and strange … It’s all so temporary.” Her former Glee castmates, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, Amber Riley, Heather Morris, Vanessa Lengies,...

The Top 13 Highest-Grossing Concert Films of All Time
Image
“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” made a surprise appearance on the theatrical release calendar this October and has already become the second-highest grossing concert documentary ever, drawing in fans who wanted to re-experience her Eras Tour in movie form and those who weren’t able to catch this summer’s concert. But while “The Eras Tour” movie still isn’t the top music doc (yet), it’s something of an outlier when it comes to just how much it’s made at the box office — $178 million and counting.

Several other big-name musicians and bands have released documentaries about their tours or certain albums, but the only ones to come close to the success of “The Eras Tour” include Michael Jackson and Justin Bieber, so far. Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” tour documentary, slated for a Dec. 1 release, could further shake up the stats and the box office.

Below we’ve rounded up...

HBO Now New Releases: April 2020
Issa Rae
Well here we are. April is going to be a fairly sedentary and isolating month for a lot of people. At least we now thankfully have some guidance as to our entertainment options as HBO has released its new streaming releases for April 2020.

HBO’s original series premieres are pretty busy this month. The fourth season of Issa Rae’s excellent comedy Insecure arrives on April 12. That’s preceded by the fascinating docuseries Atlanta’s Missing and Murdered: The Lost Children and followed by book adaptation I Know This Much is True.

On the film side of things there are a few exciting options. Good Boys arrives on April 4, It: Chapter Two on April 11, and Stuber on April 18. Some older movies arriving on April 1 are Team America: World Police, Die Hard, and Slumdog Millionaire.

Here is everything else coming to HBO Now and HBO Go in April 2020 via HBO PR.

‘Glee’ Star Mark Salling Dead at 35
Mark Salling at an event for Glee (2009)
Mark Salling has died at the age of 35. The former “Glee” star was reportedly found near a riverbed by his home in Sunland, Los Angeles. TMZ reports Salling’s death was a possible suicide, but the L.A. coroner has not yet confirmed the cause of death.

The actor made headlines last year for pleading guilty to possession of child pornography. The search warrant for Salling’s arrest found more than 50,000 images of child porn on his computer. Salling’s sentencing was scheduled for March 7. He was set to ask the judge for four to seven years in prison.

Salling is best known for starring as Noah “Puck” Puckerman on Ryan Murphy’s Fox musical series “Glee,” in which he starred opposite Lea Michelle, Corey Monteith, and Amber Riley. He reprised his role as Puck for the 2011 movie “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie.” Salling was nominated for three Screen Actors...

‘Mortal Kombat’ Reboot Closer To Being Unleashed With New Director Attached
For at least a good half decade or so, Hollywood has been trying to crack a reboot of “Mortal Kombat.” For a while, Kevin Tancharoen (“Fame,” “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie”) was attached to the gig after creating his own promo trailer for what his vision would look like. But alas it never went anywhere, and things have mostly been pretty quiet around the property.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 2 Adds New Cast
Takeshi Kaneshiro and Donnie Yen in Wu xia (2011)
In Hollywood, everyone and their auntie is getting aboard to the Chinese bandwagon, looking for opportunities in the ever-growing movie market. The Weinstein Co. is no exception and its sequel to Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is gearing up with news of another cast member. Harry Shum Jr., Mike Chang in Glee, is joining the martial arts jamboree.Shum, who has movie credits in Step Up 2: The Streets and Glee: The 3D Concert Movie, will play a character called Tie-Fang. He’s one of the four martial arts heroes of an underworld world, alongside Silent Wolf (Donnie Yen) and Yu Shu-lien (Michelle Yeo). Between them they’re charged with keeping a sword called Green Destiny out of the hands of the frankly despicable Hades Dai. Kevin Tancharoen Will Helm The Guns Of Christmas Past
Tired of watching Elf, The Polar Express and It’s A Wonderful Life back-to-back every Christmas Eve? Voltage Pictures may have just the thing for you, with news that the studio is moving forward with a ludicrous action flick titled The Guns of Christmas Past and has brought Kevin Tancharoen on board to direct.

The movie, very loosely inspired by Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, centers on a retired hitman who finds himself in Chicago on Christmas Eve to avenge the death of a friend. That night, the hitman realizes that he must fight three unlikely adversaries from his past, present and future if he’s to avenge his friend’s death and find out who he really is in the process. Andrew Hilton, who also wrote upcoming flicks Bullet Run and The Lost Patrol, penned the script.

Honestly, that premise sounds just nutty enough to work. Typical Christmas movies...

'Mortal Kombat: Legacy' Director Confronts 'The Guns of Christmas Past'
Kevin Tancharoen
Kevin Tancharoen has signed on to direct The Guns of Christmas Past, which is very loosely inspired by Charles Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol.

The plot centers on a retired assassin who returns to his hometown of Chicago on Christmas Eve to avenge the death of his longtime friend. He finds himself going up against three adversaries from his past, present and future, while discovering who he really is in the process.

Andrew Hilton wrote the screenplay, with Voltage Pictures' Zev Foreman and Nicolas Chartier producing. Voltage is also developing Andrew Hilton's script Bullet Run, which Rob Cohen signed on to direct back in 2011. He also has The Lost Patrol set up at Legendary Pictures.

Kevin Tancharoen most recently wrote and directed Season 2 of his hit web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy. His feature credits include the Fame remake and Glee: The 3D Concert Movie.

Cory Monteith at an event for The 82nd Annual Academy Awards (2010)
The 2014 Oscars “In Memoriam” tribute honored all of those we lost this year in the world of film, followed by Bette Midler performing “Wind Beneath My Wings.” However, as viewers might have recognized, there was one name missing from the list: Cory Monteith.

Cory Monteith, who died in July, was best known for his television work as Finn Hudson on Fox’s Glee, but he wasn’t a stranger to the big screen either. Monteith starred in 2011′s Monte Carlo, Glee: The 3D Concert Movie, and more.

However, Monteith did make the Oscars In Memoriam gallery on their site.

Interview: Director Kevin Tancharoen Gives Us Something New With 'Mortal Kombat: Legacy' Season 2
Actress Samantha Jo in a contemplative moment as Kitana in "Mortal Kombat: Legacy"

The launch of "Mortal Kombat: Legacy" Season two kicks off our coverage of new fights (and fighters) for the Machinima web series. Check out the first episode below. Later today, we'll bring you interviews with some of the stars and creators who've brought the battle for Earthrealm to your PC.

Interview: Mark Dacascos (Kung Lao)

Interview: Casper Van Dien (Johnny Cage)

"We didn't want to give people a carbon copy of what we did last time," director Kevin Tancharoen tells me about his team's goals in putting together a second season of the gritty web series, "Mortal Kombat: Legacy." The first season, assembled on what would be considered an ambitious fan film budget with the participation of actors like Jheri Ryan ("Star Trek: Voyager") and Michael Jai White ("Black Dynamite," "Spawn"), set out to assemble a handful...

'One Direction: This Is Us' storms UK box office - top 10 in full
Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, One Direction, and Louis Tomlinson in One direction; Así somos (2013)
One Direction's 3D documentary This Is Us has stormed to the top of the UK box office on its first weekend on release.

The movie, directed by Morgan Spurlock and produced by Simon Cowell, earned more than £3.4 million to send Matt Damon's blockbuster Elysium into second place.

This Is Us's box office opening is by far the strongest for a recent 3D concert film. Previous offerings have failed to crack the £1 million mark, with Justin Bieber's Never Say Never getting closest in 2011 with £820,592.

By comparison, 2012's Katy Perry: Part of Me bowed to £449,491, Glee: The 3D Concert Movie earned £356,271 in 2011 and 2009's Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Performance took just £117,060.

This Is Us is also the number one movie Stateside with a $17 million haul over the Labor Day weekend.

Elsewhere in the UK, new releases Pain & Gain, The Way Way Back and You're Next all...

Cory Monteith: A Look Back At Late Actor's Past Drug Abuse & Rehab Stints
Cory Monteith at an event for The 82nd Annual Academy Awards (2010)
The cause of Cory Monteith's death is still not known, an autopsy on the actor is scheduled for today, but over the years the "Glee" star opened up about his past drug use and time spent in rehab.

During the junket for 2011's "Glee: The 3D Concert Movie," Monteith spoke to Access Hollywood about going public with his past.

"I think it's important for me to kind of provide an example kind... lead by example and kind of use my experience to inspire others," Monteith, who was in rehab multiple times - most recently in March - told ...

Grow Up: Actors Who Played Younger ... Way Younger
They say that high school is never really over, and it would appear that some aging actors take the adage very seriously.

The trailer for Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck's upcoming film "Runner, Runner" premiered yesterday, and our favorite *NSYNCer finds himself regressing to those frosted tip days of youth. Mr. Timberlake plays Richie, a spritely Princeton student who finds himself in deep financial heat. Richie is probably college age (18-22), which makes Timberlake, 32, at least 10 years older than his character.

This baffling case of cinematic time travel got us thinking: What other stars have deceived us and played younger characters when they were in fact not that young at all? We did a little digging, and the findings made our 18-year-old (but actually 34, oops) hearts skip a beat.

10. Rachel McAdams as Regina George in "Mean Girls"

Regina's age: 16-17

Rachel's age at the time: 26

‘Metallica Through the Never’ Trailer: A New Twist on the 3D Concert Movie
Most concert movies are pretty cut-and-dry in their approach, in terms of how they glorify their musician/musical group subject and attempt to make them seem relatable at the same time (example: Justin Bieber: Never Say Never). Recent additions to the (genre?) have attempted to mix things up in… curious ways – like having the cast of Glee remain in character throughout the Glee: The 3D Concert Movie – and the upcoming Metallica Through the Never will go even further, by weaving a full-blown fictional narrative into the mix.

Metallica features 3D footage of the iconic heavy metal band performing live for a sold-out arena, in combination with a fictional storyline that revolves around their band crew member, Trip (Dane DeHaan), undertaking a mission for the band when “he unexpectedly has his life turned completely upside down.” DeHaan, of course, is an up-and-comer, thanks ...

One in every family: Lesbian sisters, moms and daughters of celebrities
Tags: Rosario DawsonMary CheneycelebritiesMarie OsmondJennifer LopezKristanna LokenIMDb

Too often anti-gay people are homophobic because they don't think they know anyone gay. But statistics show that, well, we're everywhere — there's at least one of us in every family. We have power within our own families and communities to inspire change, and you can see that in these sisters, mothers and aunts who have inspired their high-profile relations. We can see their change in activism, on screen and in specific subcultures that don't often have discussions on different sexualities.

This week, Jennifer Lopez told Access Hollywood that her gay aunt inspired her to create The Fosters for ABC Family, which is poised to be a pivotal show about an interracial lesbian couple who also happen to be mothers. (Yes, One Million Moms is already hating it and we haven't even seen one episode.)

Cyndi Lauper is one of the biggest allies a gay girl could ask for,...

Jeri Ryan, Kevan Ohtsji, Michael Jai White, and Ian Anthony Dale in Mortal Kombat (2011)
Get Over Here and Check out the Trailer for 'Mortal Kombat: Legacy II'!
Jeri Ryan, Kevan Ohtsji, Michael Jai White, and Ian Anthony Dale in Mortal Kombat (2011)
2011's Mortal Kombat: Legacy was a fun, gritty web series that deconstructed the Mk mythos in a surprisingly intelligent way, helmed by the unlikely Kevin Tancharoen (whose credits include the Fame remake and Glee: The 3D Concert Movie), who made the transition from musicals to Mortal Kombat with fantastic results.

Well, with millions of hits on YouTube and a DVD release of Mk: L selling well, it was only a matter of time before a second "season" of the web series would be produced, and the lovely folks at Machinima have put up a trailer for the forthcoming Season 2, which you can check out below.

I'll be honest, there's a lot of nerdy joy to be gleaned from Mortal Kombat: Legacy's second season if this trailer is any indicator.  Johnny Cage is now being played by Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers), and Cary Tagawa will be reprising the role...

Pitch Reels show alternate visions for ‘Daredevil’, ‘Halloween’, and ‘The Hunger Games’
The process that studios go through to pick a director for a project is often one that’s hidden from public view, with nothing more than rumours of potential hires and people who make a play for the job. This often leads to speculation of what certain films would look like under the guidance of other directors who may have been interested. While until now, speculation is all that film fans have had to go on, recently a few pitch reels have been released to the public. Pitch reels are short trailers put together by directors who want to give a studio an idea of their vision for a film. In most cases, the casting or story may not end up the way the pitch reel displays it, but it’s nonetheless a fascinating glimpse into the mindset of sertain people with regards to projects they were pursuing.

First up,...

Google is Now a ‘Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon’ Cheater’s Dream Come True
Back in the 90s we didn’t have fancy time wasters like iPads and Angry Birds, so we had to occupy our time by relying on stupid things like talking to other people and using our brains. These were truly dark times, but they were made less dreary by three students at Albright College, who in 1994 made up the greatest movie geek trivia game of all time: Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. For those not in the know (you youngsters are so cute), Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon is a takeoff of the six degrees of separation theory that says no two people in the world are separated by more than six connections. For these purposes, the theory is that no actor is separated from the prolific Kevin Bacon by more than six shared credits. A traffic-driving celebrity like Justin Bieber, for instance, is separated from Kevin Bacon by four connections: Bieber was in School Girls with...

Beyoncé Aims To Become A Quadruple Threat By Directing A Concert-Documentary About Herself
With increasing celebrity fascination and the price of concert tickets being far more expensive than a movie ticket, concert-documentaries have been seeing a significant rise in production.  Recently we've seen pop-docs such as Katy Perry: Part of Me, Glee: The 3D Concert Movie, and Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.  Recently announced, smash hit recording artist Beyoncé Knowles will be joining those ranks by making her own film centered around her chart-topping music and whirlwind life.  The real kicker is, she's going to be making her directorial debut on the project.

Nimrod Antal to Direct Metallica 3D Film
Although 3D still has yet to prove itself as an essential component of any narrative-driven feature film, one of the areas where I think 3D does have a lot of potential is in music and concert films. This is a format where you can go crazy with visuals without having worry about breaking people's immersion or getting in the way of telling a story. It's true that some people have already been making use of 3D in these kinds of movies, but many of them have been aimed at kids (ie. Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience and Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert). A couple of years ago U2 did a 3D movie, and last year we had Glee: The 3D Concert Movie (which tanked at the box office). Now the world's biggest hard rock / metal band is looking to use 3D to create...

'Glee' Cast Won't Tour This Summer
Cast may instead put on a charity concert later this year to support its Give a Note campaign.

After two successful runs in the past, "Glee" won't hit the road this summer.

Despite earlier reports that the show would kick off another tour this year, a rep tells The Hollywood Reporter, "We currently have no plans of touring the cast this summer." However, there are plans to hold a charity concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles later this year.

Proceeds from the show would benefit the "Glee" Give a Note campaign, which supports music education programs in schools.

Sources told Billboard.com that dates have already been discussed, but the show or shows are only in the planning stages. September seems to be the target date for the charity concert.

Although a concert tour had been discussed, the focus...

Gone and Definitely Forgotten: 15 Films You Probably Forgot Came Out in 2011
Wow, we're already a month into 2012. Can you believe it? Hell, it seems like yesterday when we were looking forward to the New Year. Now, we're already 1/12 of the way done with it! Despite how fast it feels at the current moment, years are actually pretty damn long. Because of this, it's pretty easy to forgot about mediocre films. A year after the fact, I always gawk in amazement that certain films came out the year previously. It seemed like such a long time ago, yet it's only been twelve months. Below is fifteen of these films, the unsung losers of 2011. They may not be bad...but they are certainly forgetable.

Season of the Witch

This Nicolas Cage disaster began the year of 2011 with a whimper. Other than Ron Perlman head butting a demon (which should be in every movie, btw), no one can remember a damn thing about this film.

Katy Perry In Talks With Paramount For A 3D Movie
Becoming one of the best-known artists across the world, Katy Perry has risen to monumental success in the past few years, and is still riding high from the release of her 2010 album, Teenage Dream, with the single Firework nominated in two categories at the upcoming 54th Grammy Awards, held on 12th February.

THR are now reporting that Paramount are in talks with the star’s management, as well as with Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s production shingle, Imagine Entertainment, to develop a documentary-style 3D film centred around the singer-songwriter that will of course include footage of Perry performing too.

The talks are still in the early stages, and there’s still no word on a potential director yet, but it sounds like everyone’s eager to make it happen, so it’s just a matter of working out the finer points. Paramount are thought to want to use the...

Katy Perry 3D Concert Movie In Development
Justin Bieber in Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (2011)
More like big-screen dream, amirite? (What.) According to THR, Paramount -- buoyed by strong box-office returns for "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never" -- is in discussions with Imagine Entertainment to create a "documentary-style film" about pop star Katy Perry. In 3D, of course.

No deals are in place, but this will obviously be the greatest concert movie ever. Perry has unleashed a bevy of massive hits onto Top-40 radio over the last four years, including "I Kissed A Girl," "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream," "Firework," "Last Friday Night," "E.T.," and "The One That Got Away." As you may have heard, she also experienced a bit of personal life turmoil when her marriage to Russell Brand ended in December of 2011.

Concert movies have become du jour again in Hollywood following the successes of "Never Say Never," Michael Jackson's "This Is It" and "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour.

Top 7 Worst Films of 2011
We start the Top 7. You finish the Top 10.

For every unique film that reminds us of our movie-going love, there’s always one that reminds us otherwise. For every gem like The Artist, there are parades of sucktitude like Jack and Jill. For every surprise like Monte Carlo, there’s journeys into hell like Glee: The 3D Concert Movie.

As we get hooked on the golden hoopla with Oscar’s new batch of nominations let us not forget the titles stinking up the bottom of the garbage bin that is the worst movies of 2011.

Read Allen’s reaction to the Academy Award Nominations

And now, on to the list …

7. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (3/10)

Recap: A young New York boy (Thomas Horn) seeks to solve the mystery of a blank key left behind by his father (Tom Hanks) who died on 9/11. Directed by Stephen Daldry (The Reader), and starring some kid who dominated “Kids Week!

Blu-Ray Review: Glee: the Concert
I would apologize for the delay, but that would be disingenuous; I just couldn’t bring myself to watch this piece of shit. I’m not even joking, I seriously procrastinated writing this review because I knew what I had to watch would be awful. I’ve stopped writing reviews for individual Glee episodes because the program reaches new lows every week and I can’t just keep saying the same criticisms with different words twenty-two times a season.

This is a special occasion, though: a “concert film” of the cast’s Summer 2011 tour, for which they rehearsed four days and charged over seventy dollars a ticket. The tour itself may have made bank, but the release of this “concert film” (don’t forget to pronounce the air quotes), even in 3D, failed to make any money. Thank Jeebus, too: there is very little to recommend about this charade. You know what?...

'Beauty,' 'Contraband' Set to Lead MLK Weekend
With the holiday releases finally starting to wind down a bit, three new nationwide releases are reaching theaters over Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend. Following their enormous success re-releasing The Lion King in 3D, Disney is unveiling the 3D version of Beauty and the Beast at 2,625 theaters this weekend. While the animated re-release probably has the best chance at claiming first place, it should be in a tight race with Contraband, which finds Mark Wahlberg punching people in the face at 2,863 venues. Meanwhile, Dolly Parton makes her first big screen appearance in nearly 20 years in Joyful Noise, which will open at 2,735 theaters. Finally, after two very successful weeks in limited release, The Iron Lady expands nationwide (802 theaters) on Friday. Beauty and the Beast's 3D re-release was originally scheduled to hit theaters two years ago, then was pushed back to 2011 and eventually ended up on the shelf. That all changed...

In Theaters: 'Beauty,''Joyful,''Contraband'
After a weekend that saw an exorcism movie make 34 times its initial budget, it's time for some bigger films to jump into the fray. If watching possessed mental patients isn't your thing (see: "The Devil Inside") there are plenty of flicks out there to satisfy your inner-smuggler, inner-child, or inner- ... uh, choir singer. Let's take a look at this weekend's slate of films in Moviefone's Weekend Movie Preview.

Nationwide Releases

"Beauty and the Beast 3D"

What's the story: The Disney classic returns to theaters in three glorious dimensions. For the few uninitiated, the film tells the story of a young prince who turns away an enchantress seeking shelter. The woman ends up punishing the prince and turning him into an ugly beast. If he doesn't want to stay that way forever, he will have to find true love before it's too late. Enter Belle, the prince's savior.

Box office prediction: Last September,...

Glee: The Concert Movie
Like many concert films shot in 3D and based on a current pop culture phenomenon, Glee: The Concert Movie appeals to a very specific niche, and contrary to what you might think it’s not the entire fanbase of the show either. Midway through the first season, Glee’s pretense of telling a coherent story with a consistent story line vanished altogether and it became episodic teenage melodrama punctuated by their own peppy covers of Top 40 hits, classic rock, and ballads. By making a concert film, Glee acknowledges that all it really has is a modestly talented group of singers who’ve been trained to perform in the tradition of a 20-person pop group. For that, Glee: The Concert Movie ranks miles above the television seasons (which says little), but then it forces the audience to endure Gleek enthusiasm in the form of videos showcasing fans oozing affection for the show or specific characters.

What Were the 15 Biggest Flops of 2011?
You won't be all that surprised when you look over the following list compiled by The Hollywood Reporter which takes a look at the 15 biggest studio flops of 2011 based on budget and worldwide gross. Of the bunch only one made my top ten list of worst movies of 2011, a couple were mentioned in my Dishonorable Mentions and three -- Mars Needs Moms, Glee: The 3D Concert Movie and I Don't Know How She Does It -- I did not see. Also, of the bunch I actually enjoyed Anonymous (which Columbia completely screwed over with an awful release plan) and The Big Year was decent as was The Rum Diary, though I would never say either films was something you needed to rush out to see. Of course, there is a difference between a flop and a terrible movie, though we obviously wish the two descriptors would stick together more than they actually do.

If you waited until the last minute to get your Christmas shopping done, well, you're in luck, because there are quite a few new DVD releases in stores today that just might be worth slipping under the tree this year. For the Mma fan in your family, there is the acclaimed drama Warrior starring Joel Edgerton and Tom Hardy, and for the action movie buff you've got Colombiana starring Zoe Saldana. The more refined film afficionado might be excited about Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, while Western fans might want to check out Blackthorn and Gleeks will obviously dig on Glee: The Concert Movie. Other major releases include the Rod Lurie's Straw Dogs remake, Dolphin Tale starring Morgan Freeman, financial drama Margin Call starring Kevin Spacey and Zachary Quinto, plus the Guillermo del Toro-produced Spanish horror flick Julia's Eyes and John Landis' Burke & Hare starring Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis.

'Midnight in Paris' is the Top Choice This Week On DVD and Blu-ray
DVD Links: DVD News | Release Dates | New Dvds | Reviews | RSS Feed

Midnight in Paris Coincidentally, I watched Midnight in Paris again just last night. It was my third time seeing it so I think you already know I'm going to suggest you buy it and I'm pretty sure it will be landing inside my year-end top ten, but I'm not quite sure at what spot.

I have grown to love this film since seeing it in Cannes as I absolutely adore its sense of magic. It creates a story I believe so many of us wish we could easily fall into and on top of that it is really, really funny. Michael Sheen as the "pedantic" Paul and Corey Stoll as Ernest Hemingway are both so perfect it's beyond words.

Margin Call Also a great movie, though I'm not sure it's one I would necessarily buy. I'm just not sure...

Rock of Ages Trailer Starring Tom Cruise and Alec Baldwin
There are at least a handful of Broadway musicals that have been major successes on the big screen over the last few years, and something tells me that Adam Shankman's adaptation of Rock of Ages has the potential to be one of the biggest ones yet. It has a star-studded cast and the crossover appeal of classic '80s rock songs, and it could even catch on with the Glee crowd (although Glee: The 3D Concert Movie tanked at the box office, so maybe that's not a good thing to rely on). But there is one big risk associated with this movie: it also happens to star Tom Cruise in a headlining role as legendary rocker Stacee Jaxx. The first trailer for Rock of Ages cautiously dances around that fact, attempting to win you over with a sense of humour before eventually building up to the reveal of Tom Cruise on stage.

The 2011 Portfolio Video: Drive, Dragon Tattoo, Warrior, Shame
The 2011 Portfolio Video. Alex “hatinhand“‘s The 2011 Portfolio video showcases Drive, Warrior, Shame and other movies from 2011 in a tribute video featuring clips and music from them. Most of these films I have not even seen yet (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and some I will never see (Footloose).

The video is broken up into six chapters (there are two chapter 2s), each one has its own music track.

From Hatinhand about The 2011 Portfolio:

The 2011 slate of releases, from The Adjustment Bureau to Zookeeper.

This is where a cathartic and overarching statement would succinctly sum up the year’s displays of creativity, passion, ingenuity, and bravado, but the only thing that comes to mind is: weird shit. Lots of weird shit.

War horses and evil clowns. Hobos with shotguns and super-powered Nazi hunters. Cancer comedies and a silent warrior in a scorpion jacket. Iconoclasts, conspirators, madmen, and crusaders. And a badass David Tennant.

Is 'Glee' the new 'Sex and the City' at Golden Globes?
Jane Lynch, Lea Michele, Naya Rivera, Mark Salling, Matthew Morrison, Cory Monteith, Dianna Agron, Kevin McHale, Chris Colfer, Jenna Ushkowitz, Amber Riley, and Heather Elizabeth Morris in Glee (2009)
If "Glee" wins its third consecutive Golden Globe as Best Comedy Series, it will tie the mark set by "Taxi," "The Golden Girls" and "Sex in the City" and be just one away from the record four claimed by "All in the Family."  Like "Glee," "Sex and the City" came out strong, attracting critical praise and a passionate viewership. Both series won Golden Globes for two different performers -- Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer for "Glee"; Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall  for "Sex and the City" -- and both had big-screen versions. While the "Sex and the City" movie was a blockbuster hit that spawned a so-so sequel, this summer's "Glee: The 3D Concert Movie" only earned $11.8 million. For "Glee" to match the "Sex and the City" three-peat at the Globes, it must beat back a challenge from...

Mortal Kombat Director Promises a "Darker and Grittier" Reboot
Back in 1995, enthusiastic audiences showed up for the adaptation of Mortal Kombat, based on the popular video game series. Two years later, those same audiences stayed home for the sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.

Fast-forward 11 years and a reboot is now in the works. Warner Bros. has brought in a huge action director for the job — Kevin Tancharoen, who directed the Fame remake and Glee: The 3D Concert Movie. Wait, what?

Tancharoen was aware of his own reputation, and set out to prove himself with a non-authorized, 8-minute Mortal Kombat short, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, which led to the authorized 10-episode web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy. "I knew nobody would risk putting my name in front of a genre movie," the director recently told The La Times. "There would be an outcry by fans with everyone asking, 'Why are you getting the guy who did Fame to make Mortal Kombat?'...

Geek Gossip: Bond 23, Mortal Kombat, Avatar
French beauty Berenice Marlohe is rumoured to be new Bond girl.

According to Twitch, the 23-year-old actress (pictured) has been cast opposite Daniel Craig in director Sam Mendes' as-yet-untitled Bond 23.

Earlier last month, Brazilian model Ana Araujo - girlfriend of Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood - was said to be close to landing the role.

Plans to take the next 007 adventure to India were scrapped. Most of the movie will be filmed in South Africa while the opening scenes will be shot in Istanbul. Bond site MI6-hq is reporting that producers have met ministers in the Turkish city to make arrangements before production begins in November.

Istanbul was also used as a location in previous Bond movies From Russia With Love and The World Is Not Enough.

Bond 23 hits cinemas on October 26, 2012, in the UK and November 9, 2012, in the USA. Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the franchise.
