Much like other low budget movies of the extreme genre, there's no real plot and the title gives you a general idea as to what you're in for. However, unlike some "extreme horror" features (like the August Underground trilogy and American Mary) where there is some sort of substance and some sort of message (be it political or social) somewhere in there. With Nekro, not so much; which comes off as something that was made simply to get a rise out of the viewer and nothing else.
The quality is very low and amateurish, and it's clear that a lot of things were done in post (such as the audio) and it's sometimes hard to tell what's going on in some shots because it's really dark at times. Nevertheless, I will say that if the quality was improved, chances are it could be up there with other movies about necrophilia and truly live up to being as disturbing as it has been made out to be--and I'll give the makers credit it where it's due for giving the effort to trying to make something truly haunting and revolting.
If you're looking to watch a good movie about the subject, then I'd say skip this and go check out Nacho Cerdà's "Aftermath". There's no dialogue, but the effects are impressive and fairly realistic for being done on a small budget.
2.5/10

This short is surely a cult classic among the horror buffs. It's for the moment available on many ways, I had seen it years ago on some compilation but still, some people hasn't seen this short. I came across this together with another short Japanese rarity, Lady In A Sea Of Blood.
Nekro isn't for the easily offended because it's explicit in many ways. The killing of the victim is done off-screen but the necrophilia afterwards is done in full glory and it is closely to porn. It's only the red stuff that covers the girl her vagina. Once the victim is slashed to death, where blood sputters all over the killer she's undressed and is first being fingered on-camera before she gets a lickety-clit. For some this will be shocking. The killer then makes his cock a hard on before he go inside her.
The only thing that annoyed me was the sound, even as the girl is death still you hear her voice, overdubbed clearly. But nevertheless, it's a straight in your face short with nothing to hide and a lot of red stuff.

The Lady In The Sea Of Blood is a short, clocking in at 30 minutes that used to be lost. Only 3 copies survived and were found. Nothing is known about crew or actress. The only thing she does is brushing her teeth until she bleeds and then goes to a shower to cover herself with blood. It's not shocking at all and there's no gore to watch. Of course it's a bizarre entry in the Japanese splatter genre, a cult classic even as it is low on everything

I give it a 5/10
Many people are quick to praise artistic works that "push boundaries" and "raise questions," without taking the time to objectively evaluate the content of the works beyond these basic, animal responses. Certainly, plenty of these kinds of works - for instance the prose of the Marquis De Sade, or the music of Whitehouse - reveal a deal of astuteness and depth past their potential to offend people, but for every one of these there are perhaps five or six that, despite their best efforts, fall flat on their faces and can do nothing else but wallow in their own supposed "extremeness." Nekro is such a film.
Don't get me wrong - Nekro's extreme content isn't what makes it bad, rather, it's the fact that there isn't anything else to be found in it. The best praise one could give Nekro is that it undeniably knows what it wants to do, and is (in some ways) successful. There is callous violence and there are perverse sexual acts. Unfortunately, there is nothing else of value to be found in any of Nekro's fifteen minutes. The acting (such as it is) is unappealingly bad. The sound consists wholly of amateurish sub- bass rumblings flirting poorly with a great deal of annoyingly over-processed screaming. The visuals, as a consequence of the budget, are muddy, ugly, and make you want to stop watching long before you get to the death and depravity.
Nekro is a movie whose single, short-sighted purpose is to offend the viewer, without realizing that anyone who might go to the lengths required to see it are beyond its ability to do so. The result is 15 boring, insipid minutes utterly lacking in any redeeming qualities, shock value or otherwise, which leaves the viewer only with regret from having wasted so much of their time.
