It was refreshing to see a deeply religious person portrayed as someone who wasn't some flaky mysticism or fanatical zealot. The wife in that episode clearly knew and owned her values and convictions. Even Mary who usually blows off God was respectful. I think this and the gay episodes show some of the best views into the actual heart of sincere and passionate views without the need to get on a soapbox.
I'm a 60 year old conservative veteran. I rarely express my views because it is too easy to misconstrue and be misconstrued. I suck at face to face communication when you can see facial responses, so attempting to express my views without stirring a debate seems pointless. However I couldn't sit back and stay quiet when writing like this is so objective and compelling. What if most of the contentious issues of our time were treated with this much respect?
