When the crews names aren't on IMDB,....

....., It's usually a sign of the "quality" of the production.

(Yeah, that's sarcasm btw,..)

The dialog is less natural then a text-to-speech bot reading a phone book, and is delivered with more wood then a Burning Man bonfire.

The camera and lighting is, a bit ordinary, zero budget with a few toys and not enough experience yet, along with the preprogrammed 'lightning' mode on basic LED lights.

Sound is good, sadly good enough to hear how bad the dialog is... As for the visual effects, even The Asylum spends more time and effort on those.

Sure, with a name like Mega Lightning, one doesn't expect awards winning performances or plot, but there's a few places where the characters simply don't do what real people would, they don't run when they should, and the do run when they wouldn't,.. the mother in the woods for instance, would not have done what she did.

The actors playing the sisters may have potential, but most of the rest show less effort or attention then required, leading to the upbeat party being more like a meeting of Depressing Performers Anonymous.

Don't waste good popcorn on this one.

Terrible
willbsmoove30 April 2023
I love watching low budget cheesy movies. This one is pretty bad. STUPID story line and the acting is BEYOND TERRIBLE. It's hard to watch the movie, especially with the red haired chick. She has so much lip filler in that it's even hard to look at her. I wish the lightning would of hit her lips. They are shiny, which even draws more attention to them. I don't have to many good things that I can say about this movie. I read the other reviews and figured I would give it a shot, because like a stated earlier, I love low budget cheesy movies, but this was hard to watch all the way through. All the one star ratings are actually correct on this one.

Global Warming Lightning
nogodnomasters8 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Massive lightning storms are hitting England. They are targeting the electricity found in mammals, like humans. The film runs with a subplot. The main story consists of Di (Gillian Broderick) and Bernie (Chris Cordell) going on a holiday and leaving their two adult teen daughters at home. They tell their parents one story while inviting their boyfriends over plus another couple. Meanwhile Johan (Richard Kovacs) kidnaps Tammy (Julie Stevens) and threatens to cut her up like he was done other women. When the parent's car breaks down there is only one house nearby to seek refuge in the storm.

The special effects of this British film were less than Asylum grade. With the focus being on a killer storm, they needed a plot to go with it and the low budget gave them a very substandard ploy.

Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.

Sensational opening. But sadly that is all.

Warning: Spoilers
There's a dead stop right after the thrilling first five minutes when filmmakers, capturing a lightning storm, end up becoming victims to it. The special effects are cheesy, but that is okay, because I wasn't expecting "Twister" or "Independence Day" like effects. But from there, the film crawls to a halt, dealing with the uninteresting people at a house party in danger over the deadly strikes that threaten to burn living people to a crisp, and the causes for the constant raging storm with no intention of stopping. Sadly it's a dull mixture of horror and sci-fi, with boring and cliched characters, and unflattering camera work on some of the cast. These direct to video or streaming movies servs no purpose other than to waste the viewers time. In this case, British filmmakers have jumped on this band wagon, and the results haven't improved by the jump across the pond.

Oh, it's shocking alright...

I can't say that I was harboring much of any expectations to the 2022 natural disaster movie titled "Mega Lightning". Yet, I still opted to watch it, as I hadn't already seen it, and of course I believe in giving a movie a fair chance and the benefit of the doubt.

However, writer Tom Jolliffe, delivered an insanely generic, bland and laughable script for the movie, and director David Gregory didn't do much to deliver said material to the screen. So yeah, "Mega Lightning" is every bit as horrible as you would assume it to be.

Needles to say that there isn't any familiar faces on the cast list. Nor that it really mattered, because the actors and actresses virtually had nothing to work with here in terms of script, storyline, characters and dialogue.

The special effects in "Mega Lightning" were exactly that; special. And I don't mean that in a positive way. The effects looked rigid, unnatural and like something discarded from a 1990s computer game. A natural disaster movie of this kind is very depending on having good special effects to enhance the viewing experience and to make the rage of nature look all the more impressive. "Mega Lightning" failed to do that.

"Mega Lightning" is a cliché of a natural disaster movie. And you just know you're in for a good time, sarcasm might occur here, when you see the earth crumbling into an abyss behind people running away, and especially so when it keeps changing direction to actually chase those running. And when about ten bolts of lightning strike the same place repeatedly, the chances of that are just close to non-existing.

My rating of "Mega Lightning" lands on a two out of ten stars.

Poorly done
virginia-gorg25 May 2023
Horrible acting. No real plot. People getting struck by lightning. Cars blowing up. It just goes on and in. Boring. Does not improve at all. The so-called actors have such fake emotions and attitude, it makes this movie painful to watch. The storyline, however, could have promise if the movie, acting, etc had any kind of reality happening. The two sisters are weak, sniveling, and totally should not be acting. In fact, everyone needs to find a more suitable career. They could be better as cooks or assembly workers, but certainly not acting. In my opinion, don't waste your time watching this. Take up knitting instead.

Well....
macleatak20 March 2023
The bad acting, it should have stayed in the book, I would suggest to get the award winning actors instead. Plus the director has to at least give them some common sense instead of staying for the danger. Yes this is a negative review because this movie is so bad, you make "The Visit" the top rated movie compared to this!

It is an Australian movie I know, I live in a different country and yes they have movies like this too especially horror movie that the directors would have the actors to make poor choices to become victims instead of victors. It sucks but hey it's show business right? I just wish you have done better that's all. It just upsets me.

Very bad acting and movie effects
brian_mcsei30 November 2023
I already typed a long peace, but when i clicked on the question mark of spoilers, i lost my text.

Bottom line. Very poor acting. Very poor movie effects. All effects seem like coming from a computer game from the early 90s. Very fake (plastic) knifes and swords. Even if a knife falls, you can hear the plastic sound. Even though it was clear that the arms were from plastic, they made mistake to also take close shots.

One hides for the enemy below a table, but legs are 30 cm out. One hides in the kitchen behind a table, but 20 of the head is above the table and still the enemy does not see that when in front of the actor and looking towards the table. Striking is not natural, and seems to hunt specific people. They also predict where the lightning strikes. Actors seem to fall for no specific reason.

Watchable...in a sense
cartersteve-160327 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Well, what can I say about Mega Lightning? So bad it's good might be a good description. The acting is below sub par, and the dialogue is laughable (the villain of the piece isn't the storm itself but amazingly is a man who consistently quotes Shakespeare!) The sound effects are sometimes missing (you'll see the lightning strike the ground and no sound effects), the incidental music is an irritating slow piano piece which plays lightly in the background and starts to grate after a while, only increasing in volume when something totally dramatic happens! Also, when the girls are in the house and the Shakespeare guy is after them, they start whispering to each other! I mean, why do that when he's right behind them??

All in all, what seemed like a fairly decent TV movie dissolved into rubbish near the end. Ps: you know it's a bad film when the mother turns round to the camera at the end and shouts "it's back!". Mega Lightning 2. Oh dear lord no..
