Beautiful

What a beautiful drama. Everything was done subtly, realistically, with simplicity and yet lots of depth. I don't think there's ever been a better cast in a Korean drama, the list of A-list stars in this is hard to believe at first. Episode 15 is a must watch, could probably be seen on its own.

Insightful touching and totally charming
phd_travel23 May 2022
From the beginning this series involves the viewer in the characters. This series boasts insightful portrayals of romances and friendships that is in turns dramatic, laugh out loud funny and touching. The characters are flawed and human and their problems including financial and mental and many hardships feel real and universal. An enchanting Continental accordion soundtrack and Italian songs add to the island atmosphere. The director is good a keeping the different characters and flashbacks clear and avoiding confusion.

The cast is so perfect it's almost like the roles were written for them. The central character played by the bubbly Lee Jung Eun is lovable. Han Ji Min also looks pretty and sweet here. There are terrific appearances from Cha Seung Won who plays depressed better than any actor and Uhm Jung Hwa who is just perfect as a pretty friend. Among the male leads, Lee Byung Hun is totally convincing and the intense Kim Woo Bin makes a strong return to the small screen.

The writer of this show previously did Padam Padam, It's Okay That's Love and That Winter the Wind Blows. Those shows lost steam during the series. Our Blues has so many characters and different stories that things never drag. Also even if some issues have been done before the way the director and writer handle them in Our Blues makes them fresh and moving. This omnibus format is a welcome change from the series format to keep things interesting.

Didn't imagine a show about seafood market workers in Jeju could be so good. This is a must watch show and one of the finest K dramas ever made.

Must watch!
evelynguillen3 May 2022
Netflix has missed the mark on American shows, not surprised people have canceled their subscriptions, but I have to say Asian dramas, comedies, romance, action have been incredible by far on Netflix. It's nice to watch well written shows again. Our Blues is done so well. You'll laugh You'll cry, I totally recommend this series.

Sublime
newkrejados3 October 2022
Not a character miscast. Not an emotion overplayed. Not a storyline over-told. Absolutely flawless.

The technical details - not a single goof. The cinematography... breathtaking. The writing: quite nearly voyeuristic as we share these lives and learn their most intimate secrets.

That exceedingly talented (adorable!) little girl. The heartbreaking revelation of domestic violence. The genius introduction of a gifted artist. The profound bleakness of depression. The stigma of teen pregnancy. Through it all, the poignant need of a neglected boy who only ever wanted to hug his mom. Even after all those years.

And how all of those tragic elements pale in comparison to joy of belonging.

This entire show can be summed up in one word. Exquisite.

Have a tissue at hand to dry your man tears

Wow.

I just watched the final episode. I don't think I can properly put into words how amazing this show has been, but I'll give it a shot.

So Our Blues is a series where they follow a close knit group of people who live on Jeju. Where we get a number of episodes each which mainly focus on a couple of them and something dramatic which happens to them. And oh boy does it get dramatic. In the absolute best sense of the word.

The actors, all of them are amazing in their roles. Even the child actors are fantastic. Every one of them does a great job to drag you into their emotional situations and make you believe it's real, and makes you understand the character even if their choices would not be your own and empathise with them.

The stories are amazing. Every time you they changed the spotlight to different characters, I wished for it to remain with the ones we had before as I liked them so much, only for the new characters to become my new favourites. I didn't really care for the two teens at first, untill we got to their story and some of the most intense scenes I have ever seen when they talked to their fathers. Luckily most characters are seen throughout the series even when their story is done. So it's not like their story is done and then we don't see them again.

I laughed, I cried, and then I cried some more. The scene where Lee Byung-hun's character films the snowy mountain.... I think this will hit everybody more as they get older. I don't think I can watch that scene without getting teary eyed.

I can not stress enough how much I loved watching "Our Blues". This is must see tv. With one of the most perfect endings I have ever seen. Watch it, watch it, watch it!

Our Blues is masterpiece, Best of the best drama
whitesky200016 June 2022
"Our Blues" , is masterpiece, one of the best drama all time for me . Top-notch acting skills , best script, directing , piece of life drama .

The script is based on characters of casts , want to tell us that each everyone are main casts in their own life !!

Actors are best acting & so natural at the way they perform in their character.

Watching this drama - make me feel like listening blue music of normal people life .

Every single episodes are really heart-touching !!

Our Blues is Best directing and best script , the way they present the drama to audiences is unlike usual drama ,they want to tell "everyone is main character, leading role in their own life".

#ourblues.

It is very rare to find something as good as this show which will fully deserve each and every award it receives. Well written, great cast, great acting and chemistry between the characters along with great cinematography. A true winner in every respect.

Like a slow roast coffee, gotta be patient for good quality
mangogal-452992 May 2022
Just finished episode 8. I don't usually react emotionally but this episode had me in tears. This drama is great because it's not your typical kdrama that pumps out fairytale romances. There is no promise of happily ever-after, rather it delves into the intricate and intimate relationships of the small seaside community and not just from a romantic aspect. It captures the essential Korean grit of finding humour amidst hardship.

If you are looking for just korean rom-com then refer to Crash Landing on You.

If you're interested in a poignant portrayal of a small community, this is a surprising and forward production to come out of Korea.

Korea actors, directors have mastered the 'small' story.
dcnckm5 June 2022
In the in the 1960's French filmakers created masterpieces centered around interactions of famiy's, their villages. They were perfectly nuanced, true. Korea has taken over the genre . Netflix has presented these to a global market and I am grateful. Korea has incredible actors, writers, directors... to me a KO is step beyond US, China, Japan...on the par or better than Britain, Scandinavia.

Each actor in 'Our Blues' is spot on. Hard to favor one over another, but Lee Byung Him(?) des Qqq a masterful job. Compare this role to his restrained, disciplined Officer in Mr. Sunshine . Here he plays, an angry manchild, unable to form a meaningful connection to others.

Drama with Heart
bobbsaunders9 May 2022
Korean drama can be a bit prone to melodrama, with overacting and padded storylines being the main weakness. But 'Our Blues' avoids these pitfalls and delivers consistently fine storytelling, excellent acting and thoroughly engaging scripts and screenplay. This is top-notch drama delivering many deeply poignant scenes as the ensemble cast reveal their life struggles. If you want to dip your toe into the global phenomenon of K-drama, then this is the perfect starting point.

Beautiful Stories
IPyaarCinema19 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Some stories will leave you like a sobbing mess after watching the scenes and seeing how it all unfolds. IT focuses on family arguments, teenage pregnancy, first love, broken hearts, depression and more. I personally got tied to Shin Min Ah's character 'Min Seon Ah' who seemed to struggle a lot with depression while being a mother to a small boy and a wife to a man that didn't exactly know how to handle the situation.

The cinematography seems to highlight these moments but with beauty and the sounds of them living in the sea side town, it's really soothing.

It could be better
Mr_Avenger19 October 2022
The drama starts in a weird way. The story is located to Jeju island and the main roles are generally , a group of friends-neighbours. The fact that there are so many stories and characters , it makes it difficult for me to watch without get bored. Some of the inside stories seem to be unessecary (like the story of Eun-Hui and her best friend or her first love) while others should have more episodes (ex. Lee Yeong-Ok and her sister or Min Seon-A ) Also, there are some characters extremely annoying which I couldn't manage to watch and skipped them.

20 episodes were so much too. It would be better if they stand to 16eps.

However, there were some good moments too. The story with the disabled woman and the granny with her grandchild were the best for me. The whole drama manage to give us some good messages about life , friendship , family, and faith.

Fun, brilliant.
Bardoom24 May 2022
Superb acting, the cast is unbelievable; really smart writing and narrative, brilliant production. This slice if life/romance show is already way more interesting and engaging than 95% of pretentious suspense thrillers that I have tried to watch in recent years.

WOW 👌
coie-927749 September 2022
Just wow!!

All main actors/cast are fantastic with their respective characters and roles..even the cute little girl 👧 💕 and the actress with disability...

Great lessons about family love and forgiveness; joys and pains; and traditions.

This show is worth your time if you can bear with the initial pace.

There were elements in each story that is relatable. The show's creators and the director wanted to make a series about the meaningful realities of life... with life complex issues and friendships, the range of physical and spiritual emotions we go through each of our journeys in life..and that they deeply manifested 100%.

Salute 👏 to Mr. Lee Byung-Hun..an amazing actor at its best 👌 A must watch kdrama for the whole family!

THERE IS ONE THING WE MUST REMEMBER IN OUR LIFETIME WE WEREN'T BORN INTO THIS WORLD TO SUFFER OR FEEL MISERABLE WE WERE BORN TO BE HAPPY 😊

Mermaids and Matriarchs
refordgarry6 July 2022
Jeju Island, 200 km South of Korea is given "Provencal Style" treatment with its happy band of sunny, close-knit maritime folk with a sequence of 20 captivating, inter-related stories. It must be said there seems to be a preponderance of women on this island, with the men folk seemingly dead or incapable of providing very good role models - perhaps many having migrated to Busan or Seoul? The complicated, often vexatious male character, Lee Dong-Sook, however, literally saved this Kdrama from the fire. There's just something different about him; he is middle-aged, yet still a-n-g-r-y, in an excellently characterized performance by Lee Byung Hun. The rest of the cast, with the exception of the two old Ladies (who were excellent) projected slightly cardboard profiles, with a over-preponderance of clichéd, sentimental tales that slightly marred an otherwise well constructed central story around Lee Dong-Suk and his tempestuous relationship with his ailing mother.

Good actors, well written script, beautiful scenery and many more
frank-lee-197925 June 2022
First the story telling is good, most actors are past their prime, I meant over 40s, portrayed roles that are so down to earth. There are many heart warming scene between childhood friends, families, first love, etc.... I like how they care in their life during ups and downs. Great work from the productions team to bring us this wonderful drama which not about revenge, zombie, good vs bad, etc.... So much love in this masterpiece. Feel like going Jeju soon....

Great and Refreshing.
scottnothnagel19 July 2022
Refreshing series about the lives of a group of people in a small community. The characters and stories are all captivating. Some of the characters experiences are ones I could relate to at one point in my life in one way or another. The acting is amazing, almost like they just filmed the real lives of these people without them knowing it. Really enjoyed Our Blues. You won't be disappointed.

Caring Always
marakasiempre14 June 2022
"Our Blues " is superb. The format weaves you into the life of an eclectic community on Jeju Island. You begin to know them and care for the characters because you are a part of the community as well. Flawed, imperfect, struggling with past and future they keep going. You do too.

The production is beautiful. It is a sensory attack that keeps your ears, eyes happy. While watching I felt the wind in my face. I could "smell and taste" the broth and ramen.

I smiled, cried, laughed, and shouted with the characters in each episode. I will continue to reflect and share the heart, courage and hope that I witnessed in this community.

Journey of Life
anubhutiajit11 February 2023
When you laugh, cry, smile, relate on how life evolves with the people around us.....when you feel about depression hitting hard, past effecting present and shaping one's future. Lost love found and standing up for your love when it requires the most.

A tale between lovers of different cycles of life, sweet & bitter relationships between friends, parents and kids. The surprise hidden secrets of few and as a society we need to learn to accept them.

This is "Our Blues" for you my folks....one can't get over the casting, intermingling of different stories with the characters and silver lining is of Jimin's OST.

Go ahead and experience this beautiful journey.

Countryside K-Drama
PalmBeachG22 May 2022
Set in the countryside this K-Drama is about friends that grew up together and everyone knows each other. It is set as they go about their daily lives in a fishing village. There are different romance's going on amongst old Highschool flames, children of the residences, the fishing boat captains, and so on. It is a little slow going but if you like the countryside you will like this series.

What it means to be a grown up in the world that we build?
luismcdbrito8 January 2023
This is about life, about growing up and being a grown up.

You may be young and be a grown up and you maybe old and not be grown, what's the real diference?

Most of the parents don't know their kids, most of the kids don't know their parents.

Most of the wife's dont know their husbands, most of the husbands dont know their wifes.

We live in a world full of societies were we are all strangers to each others and when we start to know something about it we escape from it.

What it means to be a grown up in a modern society?

This is a TV serie about life in a small society in a global world were everybody looks the same but we are not.

So, what the hell means personality and be a grown up in a world that says that grown up is to be childish and child grow up too fast?

They're too caught up in life
alaningle712 June 2022
The story revolves around a group of inhabitants on Jeju Island who either work in the market or are Haenyeo (female divers who dive for molluscs) The stories often interconnect as all the people are friends from youth or know each other's history from living in a small community. It has entertaining stories dealing with the love, life and death of people within the group and holds your attention over the twenty episodes. The flashbacks of the characters are enjoyable explaining their links from youth and care was obviously taken in picking young actors who resembled the adult version of them. The quality of the acting from the entire cast in all the age groups was top class and often very moving so prepare to shed a few tears.
