- Patrick trades Hightower's secret location to Laroche for the four remaining names on his list. The team then sets up a trap to uncover Red John's real informant, leading to a possible face-to-face showdown between Patrick and Red John.
- Now Hightower is found by the team but unwilling to hide out more than 48 hours longer with her kids, Patrick believes to be at an advantage as Red John ignores how close he is. After bluff-pressing LaRoche to give him the CSI mole suspects shortlist of four, to which the fat-man must be added, Patrick sets a cake-layered trap for CSI director Bertram, DA Ardiles, FBI agent Craig O'Laughlin and LaRoche. Each is 'given' given the same address, but at different floors, for Hightower's fake hideout, so where will betray who sent the hired killer, who however jumps to her death. Patrick now arranges a meeting with his top-suspect, during which he realizes he must be one floor wrong and hastily adapts. The team handles his alternative, correct suspect, while he finds himself and faces a Red John suspect, who admits to that during a lethal confrontation.—KGF Vissers
- Hightower is found by the team but is unwilling to hide out with her kids, for more than 48 hours. Patrick believes he is at an advantage because Red John doesn't realize how close he is to catching Red John's mole. After pressing LaRoche to give him the CBI mole suspect list, Patrick sets a trap for all four candidates: CSI director Bertram, DA Ardiles, FBI agent Craig O'Laughlin and LaRoche. Each person is given the same address for Hightower's fake hideout, but on different floors. Whichever floor the assassin goes to will reveal who Red John's mole is. With the wrong information in hand, Patrick makes an attempt to get more information. When the rest of the team discover that the mole is someone else entirely, they must deal with the consequences. The team faces up against the real mole, while Patrick finds and faces a man who may be Red John himself.—Jaybird023
- When the vault is robbed in a little amount in a cash office by the honest employee Alan Dinkler, he stops at a gas station wearing a bomb vest and dies when two police officers try to stop him. Soon Patrick believes that Dinkler was forced to rob, and the real target was a list of clients of the office indeed. The CBI agents investigate the case and soon they find a possible connection with Hightower and Red John. Patrick deals with J.J. LaRoche the location of Hightower per the name of his four suspects. Then he plots a scheme to catch Red John's informer.—Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Hightower eyes Jane warily. He assures her he's alone. He offers her some tea. He lives at the motel sometimes. She tells him Max James was her cousin, he'd been sending her money.
She checked up on him when he quit answering the phone. She found he'd been tortured, but he didn't tell where she was. She says Red John is getting closer. She's turning herself in. She thinks she'll be proven innocent of Todd Johnson's murder in court. He asks for 48 hours to find Red John's accomplice. He promises they'll protect her."How will you do in 48 hours what you haven't been able to do in months?" she asks. "I will because I have to."
At CBI, Jane rounds up the team. They meet at a bar.
Jane tells them he lied about Red John not saying anything to him when he was held captive. He starts to recite William Blake's "The Tiger." Cho knows it. It means God created the lamb, but he also made the tiger. You can't have light without dark, life without death. He tells them Todd Johnson said "tiger, tiger" before he died. They tell him Hightower was framed to hide Red John's accomplice. He tells them he wants them to protect her, but Lisbon points out they're supposed to arrest her if they see her.
La Roche has a list with four suspects on it, but Jane hasn't mentioned it to him because La Roche could be the accomplice. Jane assures them he has a "brilliant" plan, but needs their help. They're in.
Jane visits La Roche. He asks for the suspect list and says Hightower contacted him and said she was innocent and he believes her. La Roche says he won't turn over the list because of policy. Jane offers to tell La Roche where she is, an in addition, he'll keep his secret. He 'fesses up to having Donald Culpepper break into La Roche's house. Jane mentions Culpepper looked inside the Tupperware box in his safe. "That's private," La Roche says. "You're not kidding. It should be. I'd love to try to help you keep it that way," Jane responds.
La Roche gives him a list. Jane asks for two days before turning over Hightower. La Roche agrees. Jane looks at the list. He seems surprised.
Jane meets with the team in a park. He tells them he threatened to reveal La Roche's "dark secret." But he admits he was bluffing, he has no idea what it is. But he figures it's horrible.
Cho looks at the list: Brenda Shettrick, CBI Media Relations; Osvaldo Ardiles, district attorney; Bertram, director of CBI, and Craig O'Laughlin, FBI and Van Pelt's fiancé. She defends him, but Lisbon reminds her he's a suspect. Lisbon suggests she go stand guard over Hightower in the mountains for a few days.
Jane wants to tell the suspects where Hightower is. He thinks Red John will send an anonymous assassin. He starts to explain the plan.
Cut to him telling La Roche that she is at the Pacific Palms Hotel, room 705. Lisbon gives Brenda Shettrick a file supposedly with idea for community outreach. Instead, it's an expense form with Hightower's name and room number, 405, on it.
Libson briefs Bertram, saying Jane is in touch with Hightower and is trying to convince her to give herself up. She says they know where she is but she wants to wait to give Jane time to bring her in peacefully. She tells him where Hightower is, but says room 605. He says he wishes the whole situation would just go away.
Standing near Ardiles in a coffee line, Rigsby and Cho have a loud conversation about where they put Hightower, in room 305.
O'Laughlin stops by CSI to ask about Van Pelt. Rigsby tells him she's guarding Hightower and offers she's at room 505.
Lisbon goes back to Shettrick to reclaim her file, saying she made a mistake and asking her not to tell.
Each suspect was given a different room number, so they wait to see what room number the killer will go to. They set up cameras in each of them and wait in room 805.
Jane thinks his plan is "foolproof."
Lisbon checks in with Van Pelt, who relays Hightower says hi.
They wait. They wait some more. Jane sees a woman dressed in black carrying a bag come in the hotel. Jane thinks she's the hitman who has "killer's eyes." They wait as she goes up to the eighth floor -- the one they're on. She walks by. Jane thinks she's going for the stairs. She goes into the room they gave to Bertram.
She takes handcuffs out of her bag and waits.
Rigsby and Cho go down to her room and wait outside. She opens the balcony doors and steps outside. They go in and tell her to put up her hands. She says "no, thanks" and steps towards the balcony and climbs over the railing, then lets go. She falls.
Jane and Lisbon come down and see her dead on the sidewalk below. She had knockout drugs, rope, handcuffs.
Jane wants them to leave before the police arrive and keep them there for hours with questions. He thinks he can lay a trap for Bertram that Red John will follow him into because he's over-confident. They get going.
Van Pelt finds Craig O'Laughlin and apologizes for being out of touch. She tells him he was a suspect. She says they found the real killer, so he's cleared. She asks him to come with her to relieve Lisbon up in the woods.
Jane drops in with Bertram and says someone tried to kill her to last night. He says Hightower wants to talk with him directly to make a deal before she comes in. He tells Bertram he'll pick him up at 1:30pm.
Jane leaves and Bertram makes a call.
Up in the woods, Lisbon brings Hightower and her kids pizza.
Pinewood Shopping Mall Jane brings Bertram to the mall. Cho watches from an upper level. Rigsby watches surveillance. Jane is sure Red John will show. Jane tells Bertram he doesn't seem nervous.
At 2:15, Bertram asks who's trying to kill Hightower. Jane says it's Red John and Bertram scoffs. He tells Jane he seems like he's at the end of his rope. He keeps talking but Jane is stuck on "rope." He realizes the killer needed the rope to climb down to the room below, she was targeting 505. Jane tells Cho and Rigsby.
Van Pelt and O'Laughlin check in with the police outside the compound in the woods and head up the drive. O'Laughlin tells her he forgot his phone then goes back out with a gun. Van Pelt hears two muffled shots, but forgets when he runs up and tells her she looks beautiful.
Her phone rings with a call from Rigsby and he ignores it for her. He kisses her. We see the dead police officers.
At the mall, Rigsby and Cho race off. Jane calls Lisbon but she doesn't hear her phone. Bertram storms off in the mall.
Hightower sets her kids up watching a movie with headphones upstairs.
Lisbon answers her ringing phone downstairs, but tells Jane to hold on when she lets O'Laughlin and Van Pelt in. They walk in. Jane tells her it's not Bertram, but O'Laughlin. Her phone is staticky, so he repeats it. She hears him say O'Laughlin. She turns around and looks at him, but before she can do anything else, he takes out his gun and shoots her twice in the shoulder. O'Laughlin turns the gun on Van Pelt and Hightower. "Sorry about this, Grace, truly. I've grown genuinely fond of you," he says. "It's not you, it's me."
He aims at her, but Lisbon manages to sit up and fling a pillow at him, buying time for Van Pelt and Hightower to both draw and fire. They shoot him multiple times. Grace goes over to him and tries to talk to him. He reaches up and rips off the necklace he gave her.
Jane waits anxiously in the mall food court to hear what happened. Lisbon tells him O'Laughlin is dead and she's wounded but OK.
After taking a moment to stop hyperventilating, Jane asks her to get O'Laughlin's phone.
He tells her to press redial and tell whoever answers that O'Laughlin is dead.
Nearby Jane in the food court, a man's phone rings. He answers. Lisbon tells him O'Laughlin is dead. "That's too bad," he says in his high voice. "Never mind. You win some you lose some, I guess." He hangs up.
Jane stares at him as he calmly goes back to reading his paper. Lisbon reports what he said and Jane realizes he just heard it. He tells Lisbon he'll call her back. He walks over to Red John (Bradley Whitford) and waits for him to stop reading his paper and look at him. In a normal voice, he ask if he can help Jane. He threatens to call security. Then he relaxes, and says he's just kidding -- Jane knows who he is.
He offers Jane a seat. Jane sits and sees there's a gun on the table, pointed at him. Red John tells him he doesn't want to kill him if he doesn't have to.
He says he was "so happy" when O'Laughlin told him about Jane's trap. He congratulates Jane on prevailing for once. "It's a good thing, it confirms what I've been thinking, it is a good time to quit," he says. He tells Jane he's done enough killing and is going to get a new face and a new life.
Jane asks why he's telling him this. Red John says he feels like they have a connection that must be honored. "I want to say good bye. I want to apologize for any pain I may have caused you and I want to release you from this curse you've been under," he says.
Jane says he's not under a curse. "Angry search for vengeance you will never have, I would call that a curse, would you?" says Red John. "I look at it as more of a hobby, and I will have that vengeance," Jane says.
Red John says he's just a regular guy, he doesn't have horns. He says he's got problems like anybody else. "I'm not worth ruining your life over," he says.
Jane is unmoved and promises wherever he goes, he will find RJ and kill him. Then, he will forget about him.
Red John taunts him, asking him to make a move. Then he tells Jane he's trying to do him a favor by getting him to move on.
He gets up to leave. Jane tells him he can't, but Red John points out Jane's all alone. Jane asks how he knows he's really Red John. He says Jane's wife smelled like lavender and his daughter smelled like strawberries and cream. Jane tears up.
Red John walks away. "Please, wait," Jane says. Red John turns. The two stand a foot apart. There are three shots. Neither moves for a moment. The mall crowd scatters.
Then, Red John slumps to the ground. Dead. We see the gun smoking from Jane's pocket.
Patrick calmly returns to his seat and sips his tea. He asks for the check. When security comes, he calmly puts his hands on his head. At peace.
