- The gruesome discovery of a farmer's eviscerated body in an ancient stone circle is made just days before the spring equinox.
- Alex Preston is murdered and his corpse placed in the Crowcall stone circle in a field on his land. He was intending to plough the field, setting him at odds with the New Dawn druids, all of whom have alibis. His wife Eleanor was two-timing him with her fencing instructor, and local cop Trevor Gibson destroys her alibi but when Leticia Clifford, a leading druid, is killed in the same way as Alex, crimes of passion are ruled out. As Barnaby and Jones disagree over the possibility of Gibson's involvement Barnaby seeks the advice of local historian Caradoc Singer, hoping to discover if the killings were motivated by greed or bound up with popular superstitions such as the Sleeper Under the Hill.—don @ minifie-1
- DCI John Barnaby and DS Ben Jones investigate the murder of a local farmer, Alex Preston, whose body is found laid out in the middle of a stonehenge in Midsomer Mow. The new medical examiner, Dr. Kate Wilding, confirms that the victim was disemboweled but that a head injury was the likely cause of death. He was likely killed at his home and his body moved. His wife Eleanor reappears and it seems she's been having an affair with her fencing instructor. A local police sergeant suspects a group of Druids who had a spat with Preston over access to the henge. There's no direct evidence linking them to the death but then one of the Druids is stabbed to death in her house. A third death leads Barnaby to conclude that greed and a valuable treasure are at the root of it all.—garykmcd
- The corpse of farmer Alex Preston, who prevented the New Dawn druid society from holding its rituals at the Crowcall stone circle in a field on his land in Midsomer Mow by fencing it, is found head-wounded at gutted on the blood stone. Local cop Trevor Gibson, Ben's former uniformed colleague, points at elusively lurking-around homeless poacher Evan Jago and counters the alibi of fresh widow Leticia Clifford, who had an adulterous affair with dashing fencing instructor Aidan Hardy, but was no longer in the fresh testament. The druids seem to have alibis, including high priests Ezra Canning and Eleanor Preston, who is fatally stabbed at home after calling Ezra about a major discovery, presumably concerning the allegedly magical energy lines. Barnaby consult local historian and art collector Caradoc Singer, who has his own secrets, not just on archaeological finds dating from the Anglo-Saxon battle.—KGF Vissers
