The case of the lazy writing, cheesy as fck cliffhanger

Dexter saves Travis that promises to help him to kill Gellar and leaves him in a hotel room. Debra continues her therapy and discusses her relationship with Dexter with the psychologist. The she has a briefing with her team and Louis shows a post of Gellar&#39;s Blog and he believes that the next tableau would be &quot;Bows of Wrath&quot;, meaning punishment poured on people. Dexter finds that Gellar hates the atheist Professor Casey and he goes to the university to unsuccessfully warn him that he might be in danger. Meanwhile Debra decides to reopen the case of the call girl after the visit of her father. Dexter visits Travis in the hotel and Debra calls him telling that Casey is dead. Dexter goes with Travis to the old church to meet Gellar, and he finds his hideout in the basement. In &quot;Get Gellar&quot;, there is a surprising twist in the story when Dexter finds Gellar in the basement of the church. Angel and Quinn have a funny scene when Quinn visits the stripper that he had had one night stand. Debra will certainly be confused with her therapy and will get in trouble with her decision of reopening the case of the dead prostitute. My vote is eight. ... few would have seen this coming. YES, the scenes with Travis and Gellar kind of showed that Gellar wasn&#39;t interacting with anyone else, and that no one else ever saw him. But I personally abandoned the theory that he was already dead when (I thought) he tied up that girl Travis slept with in the kitchen. But it turns out Travis was THAT crazy. So Gellar has been dead for a while. It could&#39;ve been hidden a bit better (but could it really? I found out while reading someone else&#39;s theory here). A good twist. The real twist that surprised me in this episode is the fact that Louis had the hand all along. This season has been good up until now, with the exception of Nebraska, which was highly anticipated, presented a good story and a solid twist (Jonah hadn&#39;t killed his sister) but badly made, in my opinion. He has sex with that girl in the shop? Shooting while driving on the highway? Unnecessary scenes which were just silly and stupid. However, this season still has a lot to look forward to. Who is Louis? Is he connected to Dex or Brian somehow? Will Debra&#39;s psychiatrist help her discover who Dexter really is? AND FINALLY, what is Mike Anderson&#39;s purpose? So far he&#39;s done NOTHING. At first I thought he might start suspecting Dex, but no sign of that so far. And will Travis try to kill Debra? The crime scene with his sister certainly pointed to that. All in all, since I&#39;ve never reviewed a Dexter episode here on IMDb, this looks like a good season, refreshing, if it still has to give us more than just Travis for the last 3 episodes. Yes, there have been plot holes, lazy writing, but I still enjoy Dexter. 9/10 for this episode, the best one along with th first one, for me.

I haven&#39;t been paying much attention to this season, I must admit. It has not gotten me trapped like all the previous seasons did(even season 5, which was not so good). However, even then, the situations which should be impacting simply are not! There were three twists in this episode, and I found them all to be predictable. I had suspected Louis all along. I have not figured out who he really is, I&#39;m not a medium or whatever, but it didn&#39;t came to me as a shock. From day one, I knew Matthews was the one on the hotel room with the prostitute. LaGuerta talking on the phone only made that even more obvious. And, of course, the big one. Gellar has been dead all along. This is a scenario that has been suggested for a long time, and that is why it didn&#39;t surprise me. Gellar is never seen, even when he&#39;s supposed to be there (like when Travis shows the upper floor of the church to Dexter, signaling with his head). That, of course, raises some big questions about Travis&#39; commitment to the Doomsday cause. How did he manage to do all that by himself? If carefully explained, it might be interesting. Up to now, it is NOT. I&#39;m guessing everybody has watched Seven and Fight Club, and this season seems to conveniently borrow some of the themes present in those movies, but the plot holes and loose ends are too big (which doesn&#39;t happen at all in Seven but happens a little bit in Fight Club). It kind of looks like Lost, where everything is a mess by the end, and &quot;the viewer is supposed to interpret as he/she likes&quot;. That is bad writing. They won&#39;t be able to make amends for this bad season, there isn&#39;t much time. But I hope the next episodes are a somewhat better, at least exciting in some way, and season seven pulls itself (and the whole show) together again.

I&#39;m actually very surprised by the amount of people fussing over the plot twist at the end, and the people that have a problem with this season. This is high quality entertainment, and I watch this show to be entertained. This episode had me glued to the screen non stop for all 50 minutes. The main plot has been absolutely fantastic, as I truly am intrigued by Travis. The subplots however are also fantastic. Desmond Harrington has seriously been deserving of awards for his acting in this season as Joey Quinn, showing the mental pain and weaknesses a man can go through during a bad breakup. I couldn&#39;t be more excited to see how these last 3 episodes pan out.

As a dedicated Dexter fan, I&#39;ve eagerly followed the twists and turns of Season 6, but the episode &quot;Get Gellar&quot; took the tension to another level. Right from the start, I could feel the urgency as Dexter Morgan raced against time to stop the Doomsday Killer, Travis Marshall. The stakes couldn&#39;t be higher, and every moment felt like a countdown to disaster. What struck me most about this episode was Dexter&#39;s character development. Throughout the series, we&#39;ve seen him as a calculated vigilante, but in &quot;Get Gellar,&quot; there&#39;s a palpable sense of frustration beneath his calm exterior. He&#39;s not just hunting a killer; he&#39;s wrestling with his own demons while trying to unravel the twisted bond between Travis and Professor James Gellar. The episode expertly pulls the audience into Dexter&#39;s mind as he struggles to piece together the clues, and I found myself completely invested in his quest for answers. One of the pivotal moments for me was discovering the backstory of Gellar. When Dexter uncovers that Gellar had a significant influence on Travis, it adds a layer of complexity to the narrative. Instead of simply portraying Travis as a madman, the show presents him as a product of Gellar&#39;s teachings. This revelation not only deepens Travis&#39;s character but also invites the audience to reflect on how much of his madness was shaped by Gellar&#39;s influence. It&#39;s a compelling exploration of victimhood and responsibility, and I appreciated how it challenged my perceptions of both characters. The psychological game between Dexter and Travis kept me on the edge of my seat. There&#39;s a sense of cat-and-mouse throughout the episode, as Dexter tries to predict Gellar&#39;s next move while grappling with his own dark impulses. The writing cleverly hints at Gellar&#39;s possible role as a mastermind, leading me to believe that Dexter might finally catch a break. However, the real twist is yet to come: as Dexter gets closer to the truth, I began to sense something was off. The subplot with Deborah Morgan added another layer of intrigue. Watching her navigate her moral dilemmas alongside Dexter&#39;s dark journey was compelling. The bond between the siblings has always been a cornerstone of the show, and in this episode, it felt particularly poignant. Deborah grappling with her own sense of justice while trying to protect her brother created an emotional resonance that made the stakes feel even higher. It&#39;s a reminder of how intertwined their fates are and how their choices shape their identities. The climax of &quot;Get Gellar&quot; is where everything spirals into chaos. As I watched the tension mount between Dexter and Travis, I could sense that a revelation was coming. And then it hit me: Gellar has been dead all along. This mind-blowing twist recontextualizes the entire season for me. I had been led to believe Gellar was an active participant in Travis&#39;s madness, only to discover that he was a ghost haunting Travis&#39;s mind. This revelation not only shocked me but also raised profound questions about reality and perception. &quot;Get Gellar&quot; is a masterclass in storytelling. The episode encapsulates everything I love about Dexter: the intricate plot twists, deep character exploration, and the moral complexities that linger in every scene. It expertly builds suspense while challenging my understanding of the characters and their motivations. I walked away from this episode not only eager for what comes next but also with a renewed appreciation for the show&#39;s ability to delve into the darkest corners of the human psyche. As the season approaches its conclusion, I can&#39;t help but feel a mix of anticipation and dread. The writing in &quot;Get Gellar&quot; sets a high bar, and I&#39;m left hoping that the subsequent episodes will deliver the same intensity and complexity that has defined the series thus far.

This episode begins with Dexter, he is at Gellar his castle to save Travis. Dexter cuts Travis loose. Dexter brought Travis to a save place. Quinn his gun has been &#39;stolen&#39; by a &#39;stripper&#39;. Joey and Angel are fighting in the grass. Dexter visits Casey&#39;s to warn him for Gellar. Dexter and Travis are following Gellar. Gellar locked Dexter up in the elevator, he got out. Casey has been killed by Gellar at the Brunner college. Blood fell down on the team when Vince was investigating Casey&#39;s body. Tom Matthews was there when the callgirl died, Debra wants to re-open the case. Travis has a meeting with Gellar at the castle. Travis has been attacked by Gellar but he is still alive. Dexter found a frozen Gellar in a freezing box, Travis handled all alone the entire time. Did Travis kill all those people?. Nice episode of Dexter Season 6, what a big shock at the end. Gellar is dead the entire time. How is this even possible?

I just had to leave a review on this episode because that ending just left me in awe... So the whole time Gellar has been dead!!!!! Travis has been working alone this whole time and Gellar was his Dark Passenger! So that&#39;s why Dexter has never seen Gellar and why Gellar is out of frame whenever Dexter looks his direction. What a wild turn of events, Travis is The(only)Doomsday killer!!! We also found out that Louis is the one that bought the Ice Truck Killer&#39;s prosthetic hand from Ryan, but for what reason? This was by far my favorite ending to an episode this season, Gellar was never a killer it was all Travis.

(S6. E9) My Reaction / Review for Dexter Season 6 Episode 9 &#39;&#39;Get Gellar&#39;&#39;: Episode 8 was good and I gave it a rating of 8/10. Let&#39;s see if this one is better or worse. Lol Quinn slept with that old lady? Ok, that was funny. Batista and Quinn fighting like little kids is priceless. So now Gellar is doing everything alone to bring &#39;&#39;the end of the world&#39;&#39;, I like it. Wait matthews is involved in the killing of that sex worker? I didn&#39;t expect that. Gellar is dead from the start? So it was Travis who killed all these people? Such a twirst, I didn&#39;t expect that. Overall a really good episode, my rating is a 8.7/10.

I give the writers full points for the attempt, but it is almost not fair - to sound like a whiney 12 year old. You can&#39;t show this Travis and Geller relationship the whole season, and then shock us with a &quot;We got you!!&quot; moment. It is almost like the writers are simply going for the shocker here instead of doing a storyline that actually makes sense and works. Maybe they are getting a little cocky since their Rita shocker worked and they got full praise so now they want to top that. And I am a big fan of the whole Sixth Sense type of mind blower, but this just wasn&#39;t fair. If the next episode doesn&#39;t dig deeper and explain how Travis pulled this off and why then I might actually give up on this show, a show I have loved since the very first episode of season 1. Would Travis really kill his own sister? When did he kill Geller: a month ago? weeks? days? hours? Would Dexter really fall for all of this? He is such a cerebral genius I don&#39;t think he&#39;d walk into a trap like this. Plus, how was Travis locked up in his hotel room, and prepping the Bowls murder scene (ala Carrie) and writing on the walls and avoiding the police and then washing the same walls. It is just dumb and not fair! I&#39;m done and mad!

Referring back to the title, I really don&#39;t know why everyone was that disappointed in the twist at the end. For me, it made the entire episode, which without would have made surprisingly mundane viewing for a Dexter episode. I know there are some problems with it such as timings blah blah blah but I think it was a good idea on the writers part. I mean, Dexter see&#39;s his dad all the time doesn&#39;t he, and the writers even incorporated this idea into the Nebraska episode a few back, where we saw Dex&#39;s brother stab someone with a pitchfork. Okay, so maybe Dexter knows that these people aren&#39;t real but it still comes with the same basic idea. Also, there were a few more ends untied in this episode which I liked such as the fact the intern bought the hand and La Guerta&#39;s boss (forgot his name) was at the scene of the homicide case Deb just reopened. Hopefully it will be neatly wrapped back up again in the finale or even another twist, because previously to this episode, it&#39;s been a while since we&#39;ve had a good one of those. Kudos to the writers for the great ending. The rest of the episode could have been better as I&#39;ve felt it&#39;s been trailing a bit for a while now this season.

... as it comes for the plot of course ,your back at square one... In this episode my fellow fans of Dexter finally up until the end things are looking very good at last considering the previous fiasco of an episode.Nice and solid direction ,some good scenes (which you actually give a damn),the characters are evolving nice with all the subplots and a good rhythm in general.OK so everybody knew all along who was involved in the dead call girl case but what to do...and not all subplots are something so new (meaning Quinn and Batista fighting for example) but no one complains. But suddenly comes the final twist on the main plot! Gellar was dead all along and apparently was something like Travis Dark Passenger!! There was never Gellar around ! And no one else has seen him besides Travis! Shock and awe that is... only thing is that a few episodes back then that poor girl they were torturing and then Travis set free ,has told specifically to the police that they were two of them...a young guy and a professor. And of course i wonder once again WHAT the hell is going on in this season? if you wanted an amazing twist shouldn&#39;t be something a little more solid ? I honestly cant understand in a production like Dexter how can you make such a call. I am only hoping for the last three episodes to be smarter and better... And if someone thinks i am being too absolute then please consider the obvious. Shoudn&#39;t we all expect more from a show that all ready has given us so many good times and set the bar so high...?

Enjoying the show so far but came here to see what people thought of the &quot;twist&quot;. I have to say, This season hadn&#39;t been as good. I&#39;ll also say, without having read anything, I had been waiting for this reveal for a while now. Pretty much figured it out by episode 3, so it wasn&#39;t at all a surprise. I&#39;m actually surprised that so many didn&#39;t suspect it! I just feel like the antagonist this season hasn&#39;t been as unnerving. Really hard to beat the creepiness of John Lithgow in season 4 and the beautifully poignant relationship with Julia Stiles&#39; Lumen in season 5.

3. Travis was actually acting alone! Nice twist. This I can appreciate. It makes sense because Dexter has been using this technique of illusionary figures influencing the characters decisions. So when Geller turns out to be dead probably for all this time, it still is within the shows cinematic imagination. Travis himself is a monster with clear distinction between the light and the darkness and looking like the darkness finally got the best of him. But wait... didn&#39;t Dexter see Geller alive at the university?? I&#39;m confused... must watch the next episode..

This series has totally gone off the rails. It&#39;s reminiscent of the stupid ending/twist in Damages. There, for an entire season, they keep cutting to a scene in which, for all intents and purposes, the main protagonist is lying dead. With blood oozing from her head. Then VOILA! The writers were just playing with us. I DON&#39;T THINK SO! I hate that kind of lazy writing crap. And this episode/season is not very different. SHAME on the writers/producers. They are taking liberties with their loyal viewers and it will come back to haunt them. Mark my word. And that doesn&#39;t even get into all the stupid filler scenes with Quinn, Batista, Debra, Greene, and Jamie. (Speaking of which...Sonya was one of the best supporting characters in the series. Then POOF! She&#39;s gone. And a heretofore unknown sister of Batista&#39;s appears. POOF! Out of nowhere. Unfortunately, this whole series is HEADED to NOWHERE. FAST!) And do they even bother to send LaGuerta to makeup any more? It looks like her face is melting right in front of the cameras. She could cause The Picture Of Dorian Gray to have nightmares. The BIGGEST ABUSES, however...are to anyone with a logical, thinking brain. But those have been going on for so long now, it doesn&#39;t even make sense to harp on it. Suffice it to say...this show has been running on fumes -- and aggressive PR -- for way too long now. And it&#39;s finally run out of gas.

Quite a lot of us, in several forums, had long worked out that Gellar was a figment of Travis&#39; imagination. There were a number of clues, deliberate or otherwise. But a great problem is the logistics. How could Travis achieve all this in the time allocated? Especially in this episode. He couldn&#39;t murder the guy, empty his guts, drain his blood, set the scene, wash himself and change his clothes, all whilst Dexter was stuck in the lift. He would have had to leave the motel with a change of clothes + gear for his tableau or get a taxi to his flat or the church then to the Hall, hope the guy was still there, murder him quietly, set the scene, wash, change clothes, taxi back to his flat or church to dump his murder gear then to the motel. And at the end, how would Dexter fail to pick up Travis&#39;s goof? Dexter cuts the chain at the middle, Travis gets up and the cuffs just fall off! Also at the end, how could &quot;Gellar&quot; disappear in the underground passage, then put a heavy object on top of the slab above him? Yet Dexter naively goes down there looking for him. On a side note, LaGuerta is looking more and more like a mess. I suppose she will be written off by being murdered and part of a tableau.

I&#39;m on my first viewing of this show. I&#39;m only watching because my wife wants to. I always thought that the idea of a serial killer who only kills &quot;bad guys&quot; was lame. But I digress. I&#39;ve noticed a ton of plot holes throughout this series, with the most recent one being that Travis pointed out Gellar to Dexter as Gellar was entering the school building to kill Prof. Casey. This wasn&#39;t an issue until the end of the episode when we find out Gellar has been dead the entire time. He is a figment of Travis&#39; mind. If this is true, how in the hell did he point out Gellar to Dexter? I haven&#39;t finished the season as of this writing, so I&#39;m not sure if the writers explain that. If they do then I recant this statement. While I&#39;m at it, are they going to reveal how the father of the overdosed prostitute found out her sternum was broken? There has to be some better explanation other than &quot;don&#39;t worry about it.&quot; Which is what the reason was when Deb asked him how he knew. Lastly, can they mention &quot;Dark Passenger&quot; a little more? It&#39;s not as cringey as I&#39;d like it to be. This show sucks, but I&#39;m too invested to stop now.
