Kolkata, April 20 (Ians) A Twitter message by ‘The Kashmir Files’ director Vivek Agnihotri regarding the shifting of the venue of his book-signing event in Kolkata has created controversy in West Bengal.
In his Twitter message issued around 1.30 p.m. on Thursday, Agnihotri stated that the original venue being located in the minority- dominated pocket in Kolkata might not be safe for the event.
“Kolkata: Attention: This is to inform that due to security reasons the venue of the book signing of #UrbanNaxals has been shifted from Quest Mall to Starmark Book Shop, South City Mall. I’m informed that since Quest Mall is a Muslim Area it’s not safe. The tragedy of modern Bengal,” he claimed.
The ruling Trinamool Congress leadership has claimed the film director is deliberately spreading false messages as a part of his cheap propaganda tactics. According to them, his observation about the location of the venue is highly objectionable.

Starring Pulkit Samrat, Yami Gautam
Now get this. Junooniyat is directed by Vivek Agnihotri, whose last film was the political backfire Buddha In A Traffic Jam. And this film, which could be re-christened ‘Screenplay In A Traffic Jam’, stars Pulkit (Salman Khan) Samrat with Yami (Vicky Donor) Gautam who were last seen as couple three months ago in Sanam Re.
Temptation, as they say, comes in many forms.
If you still find the prospect of seeing Junooniyat tempting then go right ahead. You only have yourself to blame for what lies in store. If Mills & Boon were a Bollywood franchise Junooniyat could be the masthead for the sections devoted to morons. The lovelorn tale is one stretched-out he-loves-me-she-loves-me-not yarn-fest based on absurd coincidences that make no sense in this era of instant communication when every misunderstanding between lovers can be cleared with just one click of a phone.
So sample this.

Pallavi Joshi, who is returning to Bollywood after 20 years and will be seen in husband, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri’s political drama ‘Buddha In A Traffic Jam’ has also turned singer. “I’ve sung Chand Roz, which is a ghazal by Faiz Ahmad Faiz. It’s a background track in the film,” reveals Pallavi.
Talking about making her debut as a singer, Pallavi reveals that it was on her husband’s insistence that she decided to sing for a film for the first time. “I had hosted a music-based show for almost seven years but I had never thought of playback. For ‘Buddha In A Traffic Jam’, Vivek had wanted a very raw and unplugged kind of a quality to the najm and he suggested that I try it out since even though I am a trained classical singer, it’s not a very polished style. In a surprise move, the Barjatyas helped facilitate the distribution of the film that many distributors were afraid to touch because of its controversial subject.
The makers of Buddha in a Traffic Jam have found support from the most unexpected and unlikely quarters. Vivek Agnihotri’s hard-hitting film, that was facing some difficulty finding distributors due to its politically-resonating theme, has been bailed out by the Barjatyas. But while the makers couldn’t be happier, what’s taken everyone by surprise is the Barjatyas decision to support the film, considering they are known for their social and family-oriented films which are a far cry from the turmoil of the political system and ideologies that Agnihotri’s film represents.
Talking about this immense support from one of the respected film family, Agnihotri says, “If you really believe in something, sometimes God comes to help you in various forms. For me it came through Barjatyas.

The release date of Vivek Agnihotri’s ‘Buddha in a Traffic Jam’ has been moved by a week. The award-winning film that was to release on May 6th will now release on May 13th clashing with ‘Azhar’ that releases on the same day. However, the director of the hard-hitting film – that highlights the tussle between youth, freedom and political ideologies – is unperturbed about his film releasing alongside a biggie.
Talking about the clash ahead, Agnihotri says, “When I decided May 6th there were not many films, but slowly it got crowded with lots of small films. I didn’t want to get lost between so many small films. So I decided to push it by one week and release opposite ‘Azhar’. Better to fight a big film. Ours is a political film and I am sure anyone who loves India will come to see this small, revolutionary film.”

Anupam Kher is in the news again. Last week his film Buddha In A Traffic Jam was screened at the Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi midst loud protests. Anupam wonders who these protesters are and what their motive is. "My director Vivek Agnihotri and I took Buddha In A Traffic Jam to Jnu because the film shows exactly the situation we see in the Jnu. We felt it has relevance and a resonance that the students of Jnu would appreciate. And we were right. Around 4000 boys and girls saw the film." It was Anupam's speech before the screening of Buddha In A Traffic Jam that has triggered off a controversy. Explains Anupam, "I personally wanted to convey to the students that such a great institution like the Jnu should not be remembered for these controversies. It was important for me to remind the students that slogans like 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai',...

Imagine waking up in the morning and reading your name in associated with a job you never did, worse when it is a job you refused to do? Vivek Agnihotri was in a similar fix when the makers of Zid, claimed he had directed the film. The truth of the matter is when Vivek wrote the script for Anubhav Sinha, Agnihotri was of the impression that he is making a psychological thriller but somewhere during the making of the film, Sinha, without informing Vivek Agnihotri, decided to promote Zid as an erotic thriller. “I left the film on moral and professional grounds,” clarified Agnihotri.
While Vivek is extremely proud of his find Barbie Handa now-known-as Manaara, he doesn’t want to be associated with the film at all, “I was hired to make an intelligent psychological thriller based on a Canadian film The Good Neighbour for which Anubhav had taken rights.
