Somewhat difficult to connect with the characters

A talk show host brings out a family of three, most time spent with the father, where he supposedly attempts to extract the "truth" from them. The show seems to take place in some dystopian or post-apocalyptic world, given by the host's reference to a "fallen city," and with the principal aim of the show being political indoctrination of some sort. They also have a torture machine which is the host's ultimate solution for uncooperative guests, though we never see it in use. Mostly, we're just staring at the terrified father and mother, whose condition seems to worsen slightly every time (teeth missing, bandages).

Other than that, nothing much is going on. We never know what they (or the father) did to provoke this, what the "fallen city" is or what the show's point is, and worst of all, the guests almost never speak. They hardly say a few words. So we spend a half hour listening to the flamboyant host blah blah blah his way throughout, trying to psychologically toy with them. This doesn't work, however, 'cause they never SPEAK or interact with him, so you just get sick and tired of listening to the dude run his mouth.
