A very good love adventure
SivakumarBalachandran4 April 2011
Warning: Spoilers
A very good movie joining the series of paruthiveeran, passanga, subramaniapuram, nadodigal, V.kabadi kulu yes! this could one another trend setting movies in tamil cinema.

To start with was the story line a different one? I would say no it had some parts from different tragedy love movies of tamil cinema but surely the story had twists in the plot.

First, the screen play and direction was very good , since these kind of films are directors flick were the director becomes the backbone of everything about the movie. On that regard Prabhu Solmon gets a huge round of applause.

Coming to the next attraction about the movie is the place of action that is Kurangani and Munnar wow really visual treat hats off to the cameramen. great work.

The third best about the movie would be music both songs and BGM was great. Off course it was a main thing for the viewers to feel about the story line.

Great compositions by D.Imman . Wonderful songs and BGM.

And now about the stars mostly you could say all are new faces but hardly you could say they are new. They were so actual and into the characters they played.even the small roles were perfect.

First among acting was the police inspector did a fantastic job and complete justice to his role. Then the hero, he was so fit for the role. Now the female lead Amala paul wow she was dam good with her expressions.

But if this was a 100% perfect movie? I have to say no because the story has got some loop holes in it like to say one was why the police inspector took Mynaa with him instead of leaving her to Ramaiyah since he leaves before him and he is with his good wife? But neglecting this point, I have to say this movie was worth watching.

I would rate 8.5 on 10.

good one
arsatishbabu9 September 2011
the movie is good in all respects, except that songs should have come in the background instead of actors singing them.actors did a good job, especially the lead role n thambi ramanaiah. cinematography is good.locations, direction, costumes r good. But one point to be noted is that "Isn't it similar to Paruthiveeran?" love between two people with some subplots, showing their life with some twists n turns n in the end killing any one of them with twisted story, resulting in the suicide of another or just ending it there, i don't blame it, any way both of them are equally good, with paruthiveeran being the better one n special mention to the music, it's really heart touching.

a charming nightingale ...! Warning: Spoilers
I've always liked the work of Prabhu Solomon , be it original or inspired , for he always tries something novel .Whether it is "Kokki" , "Ladam" or "Lee" , each of these movies had an unique storyline & thoroughly enjoyable at the same time. "Mynaa" is no different , in fact THE best of all his works so far , I should add.

The premise is in itself very novel & fresh and the manner in which he has gone about things is brilliant. Though it is billed as "A journey of Love " , the backdrop of how an intense friendship develops between the fugitive & the pursuers within a matter of 24 hours is a very fresh idea , very well executed on screen. "Chemistry " between the prisoner & the constable in pursuit is as striking as that between the lead pair . The seamless confluence of love , sentiment , anger , comedy & tragedy leaves you speechless at the end of 2 hours & 30 minutes .

The screenplay has a seamless flow with no impasse whatsoever making it a worthwhile movie viewing experience . One sequence is suffice to get acquainted with the caliber of Prabhu Solomon . The whole Bus sequence is terrific (I wonder when was the last time we had a sequences in which the viewer goes through such a gamut of emotions in a matter of 15 minutes .Kudos Prabhu). Though I have reservations about the ending of the movie which looks contrived , movie as a whole has disturbed & will disturb anyone who happens to watch it.

Vidarth who in the role of Suruli , the fugitive madly(literally) in love with his childhood sweetheart who goes any lengths to get her , is very good. The body language , though appeared to be borrowed a bit from "Paruthiveeran " , his dialog delivery & histrionics are apt to the character he portrays .He is yet another talent & how the talent is made used of by the Tamil Movie industry is remained to be seen.

Amala Paul's beautiful eyes conveys a lot augmented by an expressive face . As the gullible schoolgirl who too reciprocates in the same manner as that of the hero without knowing what fate has in store for her , she manages to incarcerate the viewers hearts & later their minds.

Thambi Ramaiah in a substantial role where he gets chance not only to do comedy but also various shades of emotions is another strong point of the movie. As said earlier his chemistry with Vidarth is a treat to watch.

Sethu as the inspector with a kind heart is another good find . Supporting cast have a huge role to play in the success of this movie. Especially the actress who enacts the Inspector's wife role is brilliant . She makes the viewer hate her & the fact that people enjoy her getting killed is a testimony to her acting skill.

Coming to D.Iman's music , it is one of the best album of his yet. "Mynaa mynaa manukulle" "Kaiya Pudi" "Neeyum Naanum" are soothing melodies which ringer in the ears for a long time. Background score except for a couple of instances where it is jarring is good overall.

Technically also the movie is brilliant as does all Prabhu Solomon's movies so far. Sukumar's cinematography is astounding & the manner in which his camera plays through the natural beauty of Moonar , Bodi & Theni , one is at loss of words. That he manages to present the human emotions & conflicts in-spite of all the distractions he would have encountered in the rich backdrop speaks for his work & his talent.

"Mynaa" is a fulfilling movie watching experience after a very long time & every cent spent is worthwhile .

Bottomnline : "Mynaa " , a charming nightingale ...!

Excellent , Marvelous, Amazing , Awesome, Masterpiece
sithaarth5 March 2011
The film Mynaa is a well crafted and well made film.Prabhu Solomon crafts an interesting screenplay. Though predictable in many parts, it grabs our interests with a shocking climax. However the extended ending does justice to every character in the film, which is one of the important highlights. Technically, it's stunning. Both cinematography and editing are beauteous. Thanks to D. Imman for a colossal background and spellbinding songs. 'Mynaa…Mynaa' and 'Neeyum Naanum' are best picks for its melodic tunes and fantabulous visuals. The actors in this movie mostly everyone is new face but the acting skills of each & every actor is amazing especially the lead cast. On the performance level, the actors have done a marvelous job.It will remain in one of the best 50 films in Tamil film industry of all time. The ending of the movie is really touching the heart. Great movie don't ever miss this movie. I am sure it will blow you away with its ending and You'll walk out of theatres with a lump in your throats after watching the movie. My rating is 10/10..... Go & see it now

A True Masterpiece
ssvivekanandh31 October 2011
I have been thinking of writing a review in IMDb for many of my favorite movies(both English and Tamil) which i have enjoyed so far but didn't actually get the urge to do so. This movie has made this happen. In short its a True Masterpiece. A tribute to Tamil film industry. From beginning to end as the caption of movie says (A journey of love), it takes your through the life of two innocent hearts who were truly in love from the moment they set their eyes on each other. It becomes 'A journey of lifetime' for others who travel along with them in this heart warming love story.

Though the lead cast consist of so many new faces, never during the course of the film who will get an idea that you are watching an actual movie instead you will feel like witnessing 'life' on big screen. This clearly shows the strength of the director and his strong belief in this wonderful script. Every character in this film has done justice to their role and more so by the lead cast.

Vidharth fits so well in the character 'Suruli' such that it will be difficult for him even to find a role as expressive and as powerful as this in future. Amala Paul(as Mynaa) shows maturity in acting and has enough potential to rule the Tamil film industry. Thambi Ramaiya (as Ramaiya) has done a role of his lifetime and he truly deserves the National award for best supporting actor. The visuals are stunning and it shows the usual cinematic locations like 'Munnar','Theni',etc in an unimaginable way. The hard work done by the film crew by shooting in some of the remote locations of 'Munnar' has paid of well. BGM and songs add soul to the film and Imaan has once again established himself as an ace music composer.

The shocking climax freezes you(may also give sleepless nights)and you will leave the theater with an heavy heart sympathizing for the wonderful 'journey of love' which has ended miserably. i am going with 10/10 for the refreshing script and soul stirring screenplay. it is a must watch for all movie-buffs and will be cherished as one of the best films of Kollywood.

From the Day He saw Her Face...
goobyinsane3 August 2012
Mynaa is a movie the Tamil film industry would be proud off and is certainly among the top 10 best movies in past 10 years. Actors Vidharth and Amala Paul pull of performances that would be associated with those of the old school veteran actors. Without doubt, the movie's greatest USP is the stunning, picturesque back drop located in Tamil Nadu-Kerala border. The movie is fast paced and of a reasonable length carried by crisp dialogues and rock solid script. The balance of emotional turmoil and pure, unadulterated love for a girl is frankly the most fascinating aspect captured in the film. Director Prabu Solomon manages to keep the viewer engrossed in the scene with subtle indications in and around of the events to come. The movie achieves the unique feat of having no vestigial characters with the presence of every person in the movie justified to some extent or the other.Music is good and are generally relevant to the progressing storyline.I would in no uncertain terms state the the ending of this movie is surprising and indeed refreshing. Tamil cinema is scaling new heights and Mynaa is proof.
