Our war
anatoliygbizhko29 March 2022
I hope there won't be many new episodes of these wonderful series. I hope the war ends soon and we can go back to watching comedies. But until then, please watch every superb 1-minute episode, each of which uniquely frames the horror of war, and all of them, collectively, paint a poignant and terrifying story of the atrocities in Ukraine. This movie is a history in the making. An imaginative format allows to vividly relive key news events and watch the terrifying images, delivered in nearly real time. Watch every episode. And then go do something for Ukraine. Call your elected representative and tell them you want stronger sanctions on Russia. Donate to help refugees. This movie will inspire you to do that, and that is a true sign of how good this movie is.

Understand the war in Ukraine
denysdorosh6 April 2022
We are all lost in this war. We are overloaded with newsfeeds and overwhelmed with emotions. We hear comments and analyses and listen to someone's opinions. But instead eyewitness it! Grasp the moments of truth!

These one-minute episodes work better than a thousand words and display the undistorted picture of the Ukrainian war-time realities. No unnecessary words, only real-life videos. Watching each episode is like turning a page. Almost instinctively, you will feel you need a moment of silence after each page. That's when YOUR understanding of this war comes. Unforgettable and unique experience.

"Ukraine on Fire 2" is a pulsating art project and truthful eyewitness diary
ludviknata26 April 2022
"Ukraine on Fire 2" is not just a series about Russia's military aggression against Ukraine. It's a kind of war diary about the most tragic moments in Ukraine's recent history. Each episode is a separate story of a city, village, personality, subject which is, at times, presented under a metaphorical title. There are also blocks of episodes (united by a subject). For example, episodes about Chernihiv summarize the idea of the city with a profound historical heritage and legends. Leitmotifs here are images of a stork's nest, church, the "Ukraina Hotel", ruined Gagarain stadium, a ghost bandura player with a yellow-blue ribbon on his musical instrument. They present civilians and civilian targets killed and destroyed by Russia.

So, importantly, the series is a kind of collage composed of short videos made by eyewitnesses. Besides its factuality, there are also references to history, philosophy and character of Ukrainians. They are about steadfastness and courage, humanity and optimism, loyalty and mercy of people who suffer from the war. "Ukraine on Fire 2" is for the outside world instrumental in discovering Ukraine in a new way and, unfortunately, in such a dramatic way.

The series is presented with English subtitles, so for the world it is a first-hand source of information, reflections on what is happening in Mariupol, Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, Mykoayiv, Irpin, Kherson, Kramatorsk, Starobilisk, Trostianets, Chernihiv, Bucha, Volnovakha, Izium... Many of these places have been occupied, damaged or even destroyed by Russia while the west is having a peaceful life.

One-minute episodes are ultra-short but at times they consist of 10-20 eyewitness videos, conveying a sense of reality and emotional effect, with some episodes causing impressive visual and sound resonances long to be remembered.

One of the episodes is about the Lithuanian film director and scholar Mantas Kvedaravicius. He came to make a film in Mariupol and was captured by Russian soldiers in March and later shot dead. His fate is reminiscent of the city as presented in his film "Mariupolis" which is about the value of life in war... It is this episode about Mantas that seems to narrow the mind to one thought: you have to survive. The smell of bread and its crunch, these everyday things seemed to break all known pyramids of human needs and become a sign of life in the occupation.

As for the series title ("Ukraine on Fire 2"), it is not only allegorical and profound, but also historically determined. The allusion to Dovzhenko's "Ukraine on Fire" makes sense, as it is right to the point in time. The oft-repeated warning "never again" has unfortunately turned into a lonely "again". Ukrainians are dying in their land in the hands of new fascists, or, as it is now conventional to call Russians, Rushists. This is not a tag for them, this is their ideology supported by 80/90% of the population, as per sociology centers. The historical parallel is evidenced by Dovzhenko's diary (entry dated November 6, 1943), as if it is about the present situation: "Ukraine is destroyed like no other country in the world. All cities were destroyed and looted. We have no schools, no institutes, no museums, no libraries. Our historical archives perished, painting, sculpture, architecture destroyed. All bridges and roads were destroyed, the war destroyed the national economy, perished people, hit them, hanged them, and drove them into captivity...".

What do we learn from the killing of Oxford-educated European Mantas Kvedaravicius and thousands of Ukrainian civilians (by the way, most of them were Russian-speaking), tens of thousands deported Ukrainian children and civilians in new Russian concentration/filtration camps for Ukrainians in Europe? Does it ring a bell?

The series' value is undeniable. Based on eyewitnesses' videos, it represents the reality (which cannot be overcome by any Russian propaganda that so easily was able to corrupt Oscar-winning but as ever naïve university-uneducated Oliver Stone whose team was turned into what appears to be a Western escort-service for the new Hitler, in a typical propaganda fashion exploited the same - sacred for Ukrainians - title in previous films). After all, the demand for quality video content, reliable and artistic representation of the war in Ukraine has increased.

"Ukraine on Fire 2" is a living and pulsating art project that breathes in unison with time, the wartime of Ukraine, the new reality of this world.

A documentary series being produced right during the war
pavloupyr30 March 2022
Among the array of news, private reports, social media posts, comments, speeches by politicians and the military, diplomats and state leaders, ordinary soldiers on social media, the series is a kind of analysis of them all, and in 60 seconds provides a central true emotional component of each day of the war reflecting exactly what one felt this day in Ukraine.

Depicts both the horrific nature of the Russian aggression and the pride and honor of the defenders of the Ukrainian homeland. A necessary watch for anyone trying to truly understand the impacts of Putin's barbarism and megalomaniacal ego.

Very real feeling of the war
kryvoi21 March 2022
This mini-series helps understand the horror of the Russian aggression against Ukraine. It uses real footage of bombings, destruction and other horrors of the war, putting them into the context.

The episodes show Chernobyl, Babi Yar, Irpin, other places and people living, surviving and dying in the largest war Europe has seen since 1940s.

Another excellent source on Russia's invasion to Ukraine
liliaostapenko16 April 2022
Ukrainians and good people around the world are doing everything they can to stop Russia's agression in Ukraine and the Russian army's atrocities. This short movie series is another great contribution to the effort. Each episode is only one minute long, thus not requiring a big time commitment. The episodes are not easy to watch, but neither is the real war and all the pain and suffering that Ukrainian people experience due to imperial ideas of one ruthless monster. Thank you to the movie director for sharing it with the world and making the world aware and involved.

Oi u luzi chervona kalyna...
halder-321122 May 2022
Life is made of moments... seconds... minutes... and in one minute you can see a lot: the horrific war in the twenty-first century and the grief it brings: child's eyes full of horror and women's eyes full of tears; the heroic struggle and glory of Ukraine's defenders; the sacred struggle of the Ukrainians; the wisdom and the devotion of their President... On the other hand, in one minute one can see true faces of the russian aggressors - cruelty, lies, barbarity, savagery... These one-minute documentary episodes from 'Ukraine on Fire 2' tell more than thousands of words. They are like shots aiming straight at our consciousness... They are like single berries of a kalyna (guelder rose) that form a whole brush, presenting the picture of the entire bush. "And we'll take that red kalyna and we will raise it up, and we shall cheer up our glorious Ukraine, hey - hey!" - a song, sung today by people of goodwill all over the world!

This is a very cool project
vikaveleeva3 May 2022
I really liked this project. The events of the Russian-Ukrainian war since the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022 are presented in a very original and interesting way. The shelling of the city of Starobilsk, attempts by civilians to stop the movement of Russian military equipment, the actions of Russian saboteurs in the cities and other tragic and dramatic events of the war.

All this is presented in fragments of chronicles. The duration of the episode of each series is 1 minute, especially for the format of social networks.

While watching the fragments of the video, I have goosebumps on my body. It is very exciting and tragic.

"Ukraine on Fire 2" - true illustration tragic events in Ukraine now
dina-4409514 May 2022
Unbelievable! What an emotional and true illustration of that tragedy of Ukrainians and the whole civilized world.

Chronicle of events that will go down in history as a disgrace to some and the heroism of others.

And again, we understand that history is cyclical... And most importantly, we remember how it usually ends.

For each of us, the word "War" has always been associated with history, the past, what we have heard but never seen, something distant and vague. It was a word that did not evoke any feelings in us only understanding the wrongness and inhumanity of the process itself. But unfortunately now it is not just something ephemeral and distant, it is our reality in which we must survive.

Not all the destruction, injuries and deaths we face everywhere are in our heads now. People who are forced to leave their homes, families for safety have lost not so much space and things they left, as a sense of security and comfort.

This film tells our story, we are all eyewitnesses of these events. I hope it will allow viewers from other countries to understand us Ukrainians at least a little. And we will remember it for a long time.

Great mixture of the documentary and artistic contribution to fight for freedom of Ukraine
a_pendak24 April 2022
Mini-series are aimed to give a glimpse into the horrific events currently unfolding in Ukraine because of the Russian war against Ukraine and Ukrainian people. The mini-series are a mixture of documentary footage framed with a number of artistic details, fotos, short comments and special sound effects. I was personally a little disappointed by the length of the episodes and wished that they show more dynamic, answer the question. According to the producer, this length is intentional, and the series are in fact aimed to provoke, the incompleteness is an appeal to the audience to enduce a quest for more. Russian propaganda and disinformation have long affected the public opinion of the west. Ukrainian artists are fighting this war with their weapons - and these mini-series are a great contribution to this fight to shed the light on the real events and horrors happening now in Ukraine, and to show the true spirit of courageous Ukrainian people and their unbroken will for freedom.

"Ukraine on Fire 2" hits into the heart
morska_nataliia14 May 2022
"Ukraine on Fire 2" hits into the heart. Its frames are images made by life itself. Captivating. Breathtaking...The burning pain that penetrate deeply: it resonates and stays for forever! As it is about the lives of the people in the beautiful country of UKRAINE - in the heart of Europe!

"Ukraine on Fire 2" is a symbolic sequel to 1943 Dovzhenko's WWII story "Ukraine on Fire" which is evolving now. In contrast, it is a true story, a one-minute per episode cinematic factual document in which people are filmmakers, conveying you the realities of Ukraine at the cost of their lives. Showing the war in its naked form... It is striking that each episode depicts a specific day of the war. Though NO, it is not just a war, it is becoming the GENOCIDE of the Ukrainian people in the 21st century! Several states have already recognized it as genocide. And, it is evidenced in frames, episodes, words spoken, cries of wounded, raped women or children, tears shed for those who cannot speak anymore for themselves.

"Ukraine on Fire 2" is, as for glorious Dovzhenko, becoming a chronicle of the struggle for freedom. This is what is our Ukrainian land is about now. It is about our destiny. And this destiny is victorious. Its time has come to be re-born and to convey that to the world! In pursuit of FREEDOM, DIGNITY, RESPECT FOR HUMANS, the RIGHT to one's own CHOICE, own SELF-DETERMINATION! The RIGHT TO BE! To be as a STATE, as a PEOPLE, as HUMANS.

Let's watch "Ukraine on Fire 2" together. Watch how our enchanted Earth burns in wounds from Russian bombs with grief, yet resurrecting: from fragility to titan power, from helplessness to indomitable country, from population to a united Ukrainian nation! Let's watch it together to feel the present and learn from history: not to forget its bloody moments and be responsible for our common future.

The world must know the truth. Russia is a bloody terrorist.
alinasviderska22 April 2022
It's so important to capture every moment of this hell on Earth. So that the whole world knows the truth and fights for what is right. The world has no other chance but to act NOW. We cannot allow more tragedies as happened in Chechnya, Syria, Geogria, Ukraine. If tyrant - russia - is not stopped now in Ukraine, it will spread all over the world.

"Ukraine on Fire 2" is a vital evidence and memory for the Ukrainian and world's fight for freedom and democracy!

FOR THE FUTURE GENERATION
hruhamoroz6 March 2023
This film will have a positive effect on people's attitude to the war, especially foreigners who see this war on the screens: they will be able to see it through the eyes of Ukrainians and to some extent experience their emotions. Also, this project will be very valuable for the future generation, which will study this period as history, as the past from textbooks. Watching on the screen how everything happened is much more interesting, and evokes more emotions than just reading a paragraph in a textbook. I would advise Ukrainians to watch it already after the end of hostilities, because many may experience negative "flashbacks" while watching it.

Insights into the Ukrainians' historical mission
antonina-716177 August 2022
I've never before watched a documentary with a plot lasting less than a minute. None of my friends thought that Dovzhenko's "Ukraine on Fire" could repeat itself or have a sequel, and we would all witness the atrocities of the Russian occupiers on the Ukrainian soil. "Ukraine on Fire 2" impresses not only with video footage of the fragility of human life in real time, but also demonstrates the Cossack drive of struggle, the beauty of love and devotion. I want to thank the creators of this unique film, with its popular folklore in terms of the philosophy of worldview, for the conciseness and expressiveness of the representation of the truth of the existence at its limits, for the insights into the historical mission of Ukrainians in the world.

Ukraine is on fire
marinastaskevic29 November 2022
Ukraine on fire is a masterpiece not only of Ukrainian literature, but also of the whole world! The film is poignant, truthful and extremely patriotic.

In the light of current events, it acquires a new meaning, full of new truths.

Yes, there is whining here, as in all Ukrainian films, but all this is covered by the heroism and patriotism of the Ukrainian people in very difficult war times. I was shocked by all this, at some points I did not even imagine what atrocity and tricks were. It is hard to even imagine that all the described atrocities, mutilated people, mutilated bodies, and broken families were scattered all over Ukraine at that time. It is hard to imagine the heroism of our people, who gave their lives for a piece of their native land. But here the author moved away from the idealization of the Ukrainian people in the struggle, tried to show the truth, tell about traitors, fascist sympathizers. He gives them one inexorable assessment of their activities - death on the gallows. Of course, I haven't forgotten those plot twists when some policemen were taken over by the partisans. In our time, I can't imagine such a thing. What kind of people were there then, experiencing such grief and disbelief. Modern Ukrainians are no longer the same as they were, not the same. If a bomb falls on us, we will simply look at it and wait for our neighbors from Europe or Russia to destroy it with their missiles. That's it, that's what we've come to! The words "They have only an adjective left from the word ''nation''. They have no eternal truths. That's why there are so many traitors among them." but they are true for those whose "souls are small, pocketable, portable..." The Zaporizhia family are real heroes, of whom there are simply many in our endless spaces.

Glory to Ukraine!
OlyaVasuityk28 November 2022
The world should know that Russia is a bloody terrorist. Ukraine on Fire 2" is not just a series about Russia's military aggression against Ukraine. It's a kind of war diary about the most tragic moments in Ukraine's recent history. Each episode is a separate story of a city, village, personality, subject which is, at times, presented under a metaphorical title. I really want to thank the author for this project because it shows the realities of our lives. On february 24, 2022, a full-scale war began. Ukraine is increasingly liberating the territories occupied by Millions of Ukrainian residents were left without electricity, water and heat. This is a mass extermination of Ukrainians. We are indomitable and strong. May God protect our defenders.

Thank you for this work, because the world needs to see that Russia is a country of murderers.

The film is not easy, but you need to watch it at least once
moluhmaria26 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
"Ukraine on fire 2" is really impressive. As a person who has never been in a combat zone, it was emotionally difficult for me to watch this film, understanding that it happened and is happening in reality. For example, the 55th episode is impressive, when a projectile hit one of the peaceful areas, resulting in injuries among the civilian population. Episode 1 is impressive, because it is the beginning of the war, I immediately remember myself, my condition and experiences on this day. Episode 15, where a peaceful family was killed. Episode 17, where the destruction of the center of Kharkiv is visible (and the understanding that there are many, such destroyed villages and cities in Ukraine).

This film is a reminder of the past. Thanks to the fact that it was filmed by eyewitnesses, no one can question this footage, now this film is in public access and I hope it will remain so, the world must see, understand and remember the events of this war, the war crimes committed against Ukraine and its people. This film can be considered a documentary film, which was directly made by eyewitnesses of these events.

For me, movies are a way to show people a different world, a different life. The idea of "Ukraine on fire 2" is successful, because it is possible to show every day or event in one minute. A longer viewing of one episode would psychologically strain the viewer.

This film is not easy, it is not from the category of those films that you want to watch again and again, but you need to watch it at least once in order to understand all the severity, all the trauma of this war, fear, pain of human losses, despair, and at the same time anger and hatred to the occupiers. The events of the war united the Ukrainian people even more, encouraged people to help each other, to want to support and save, in order to bring our victory closer as soon as possible through joint efforts.

IT MAKES YOU THINK ABOUT YOUR OWN VALUES
mevz-230412 March 2023
"Ukraine on fire 2" is a film about the history of the Ukrainian people, about the events that this war brought us. Death and birth are strongly contrasted and at the same time peculiarly close in this film. A child is bornsomewhere in a dilapidated maternity hospital, not far from that a person dies in a house destroyed by the Russians. Life is a very unpredictable thing. It is full of obstacles, issues, worries, but this is its value. This is what makes us stronger, more resilient. The film makes me think about my own values. It makes me remember that one must always remain human. "Ukraine on Fire 2" is something that should be watched by everyone who calls himself or herself a conscious Ukrainian, and anyone who aspires to become one.
