Gotham TV Awards: ‘Adolescence,’ ‘The Pitt’ & ‘The Studio’ Among Big Winners
Image
The ceremony for the second annual Gotham Television Awards concluded Monday night in New York City, where winners for the year’s best in TV were revealed as the small-screen awards season hits high gear.

Netflix’s Adolescence led all nominees coming into the night with four, winning all of its fields; it tied in the supporting performance category with Owen Cooper’s win and Jenny Slate’s accolade for Dying for Sex. Meanwhile, Max’s The Pitt, CBS’ Matlock and FX/Hulu’s Dying for Sex, which had three noms apiece, took home a Gotham each; the former clinched the Breakout Drama category, while Kathy Bates won for lead performance in a drama. Apple TV+’s The Studio won the Breakthrough Comedy Series award.

The newly created category of Outstanding Original Film, Broadcast or Streaming went to HBO/Max’s documentary Pee-wee as Himself.

This year’s Gothams also...

LA Screenings 2025: Buyers & Sellers Seek Unity Amid Noise Of Mergers & Trump Tariffs
Image
Right now, hundreds of TV program buyers are in the air flying to Los Angeles for the annual LA Screenings. It might not be the all-singing, all-dancing party week of yesteryear, but buying sources we’ve spoken to for this report ahead of the studio get-togethers have been stressing its importance as they attempt to navigate increasingly fragmented and complicated pictures in their home markets.

While there are more industry events than ever, with the London TV Screenings in particular stealing others thunder, there is a broad optimism from those heading to the Californian sunshine (and the darkened cinemas on the studio lots). On the back of a hectic Upfronts week, the network schedules are becoming clearer, but what breaks out internationally is still guesswork.

Donald Trump’s tariffs talk has added extra confusion to the mix, and the aftershocks of both the pandemic and the Hollywood strikes are still being felt globally.

“A Couple Years Later”’: ‘Colin From Accounts’ Season 3 Gets a Surprising Update From Creator
Image
One of the best comedies in recent memory, Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer's hilariously thoughtful Colin From Accounts became an unlikely worldwide hit with its first season, following that up with a second that arguably outshone its predecessor. After Paramount+ revealed that the show had officially been greenlit for a third outing back in April, fans immediately began speculating what might happen to the central pair, especially following the shocking ending to Season 2.

After the pair went through more mature relationship troubles in the second season, all tied together by the ever-lovable Colin, the Season 2 finale saw Gordon impulsively and perhaps naively propose to Ashley. The latter then rejected him, leaving the state of their partnership in disarray as the credits rolled. With Season 3 confirmed, fans were eager to get any sort of hint as to how this problem might be solved, with possibly the biggest hint yet coming via Radio Times.

Mr Loverman, Shōgun, And Blue Lights Score At The BAFTA TV Awards 2025 — See The Full Winners’ List
Image
With awards season all but done and dusted, Oscars. Golden Globes, SAGs, and BAFTAs all having been dutifully doled out over the past few months, this evening saw the BAFTA TV Awards 2025 — hosted by Avengers: Doomsday's Alan Cumming and held at London's Royal Festival Hall — take centre stage for a night of red carpet walking and shiny statue giving. And during a telecast in which the two most nominated shows — Netflix stalker thriller Baby Reindeer and ITV drama Mr Bates Vs The Post Office — took home one award apiece, the likes of Mr Loverman, Shōgun, and Blue Lights all scored big wins in major categories.

On the night, Baby Reindeer's sole win saw Jessica Gunning's turn as Richard Gadd's crazed stalker Martha recognised in the Supporting Actress race, while Mr Bates Vs Post Office, which was elsewhere nominated in both Lead acting categories, took home the coveted accolade for Limited Drama.

BAFTA TV Awards Complete Winners: ‘Mr Bates Vs The Post Office’ & ‘Mr Loverman’ Win Big Prizes
Image
Mr Bates vs The Post Office and Mr Loverman were the big victors at the BAFTA TV Awards, meaning Baby Reindeer did not continue its dominant winning streak.

Hosted by The Traitors star Alan Cumming, the BAFTA ceremony took place in sparkling spring sunshine on the banks of the River Thames at London’s Royal Festival Hall on Sunday.

The prizes were fairly evenly shared, but perhaps unsurprisingly, it was a notable night for Mr Bates vs The Post Office, the ITV series that dominated the UK ratings last year and fuelled a national conversation about injustices faced by innocent British postmasters, who were convicted of theft, fraud, and false accounting.

The series won Best Limited Drama, beating Baby Reindeer, which has been a darling of the awards season after cleaning up at the Emmys and Golden Globes. Jessica Gunning did, however, take home the prize for Best Supporting Actress for Baby Reindeer,...

BAFTA TV Awards 2025: Full Winners List and Key Highlights
Alan Cumming
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts presented its 2025 TV Awards at the Royal Festival Hall in London, with a wide spectrum of talent recognized across drama, comedy, factual, and children’s programming. Hosted by Alan Cumming, the event was broadcast on BBC One domestically and streamed on BritBox in the United States, continuing the Academy’s emphasis on broad accessibility for international audiences.

This year’s selections showcased both returning series and first-time contenders. Several winners have already seen cultural ripple effects across the UK media landscape. ITV’s Mr Bates vs the Post Office stood out not only for winning Limited Drama but also for earning the Special Award, recognizing ITV’s role in commissioning a project that helped catalyze national discussion. Based on a real-life miscarriage of justice, the series dramatized the experiences of sub-postmasters wrongly accused of theft and fraud, spurring public and political attention.

2025 BAFTA TV Awards: ‘Mr. Bates vs the Post Office’ and ‘Mr Loverman’ win big over ‘Baby Reindeer’ (full winners list)
Image
Mr Bates vs. the Post Office pulled off a victory over Netflix's Emmy-winning Baby Reindeer at the 2025 BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday. The ITV drama that dominated U.K. ratings last year tells the story of hundreds of innocent sub-postmasters and postmistresses who were wrongly accused of theft, fraud, and false accounting due to a defective It system.

However, it wasn't all bad news for Baby Reindeer. Emmy, Golden Globe, and SAG Award winner Jessica Gunning continued her impressive awards streak, scoring Best Supporting Actress, and bringing the limited series’ total to three wins, including writing and directing victories from the BAFTA TV Craft Awards on April 27.

Lennie James beat out the likes of Richard Gadd (Baby Reindeer) and Gary Oldman (Slow Horses) to win Best Actor for Mr Loverman, in which he plays an exuberant, closeted family man who wants to end his marriage and live with his best friend.

CBS Orders Harriet Dyer Comedy ‘Dmv’ and Matthew Gray Gubler Drama ‘Einstein’ for 2025-2026 Season
Image
CBS is ordering two more series for the 2025-2026 broadcast season. “Dmv,” a comedy starring Harriet Dyer, and “Einstein,” a drama starring Matthew Gray Gubler, are moving forward at the network. Meanwhile, the broadcaster axed two of its one-season shows: “Poppa’s House” and “The Summit.”

These series order come in addition to “CIA,” a new series set in the “FBI” universe at the network, which was announced earlier on Tuesday.

Dyer (“Colin From Accounts”) will star in “Dmv” as Colette, a driving examiner with a huge heart who is adept at calming nervous drivers. But her intelligence and self-awareness also hides a woman who is neurotic, bad with boundaries and who is a constant people pleaser. She will star in the comedy alongside Tim Meadows (“Mean Girls”) as Gregg, a sardonic and defeated instructor who used to be a high school English teacher; Molly Kearney (“Saturday Night Live”) as Barbara,...

CBS Picks Up Drama ‘Einstein’ Starring Matthew Gray Gubler & Comedy ‘Dmv’ With Harriet Dyer To Series
Image
CBS has made a decision on its standalone pilots, handing series orders to comedy Dmv, starring Colin From Accounts‘ Harriet Dyer, from creator Dana Klein and Kapital Enteratnment; and drama Einstein, headlined by Criminal Minds alum Matthew Gray Gubler, from the Monk duo of Andy Breckman and Randy Zisk.

Dmv‘s order resolved a four-way tie for the single remaining comedy slot on CBS’ 2025-26 schedule. As Deadline reported last month, three pilots, the single-camera Dmv, the multi-camera Zarna, The Neighborhood planted spinoff as well as bubble freshman series Poppa’s House, were all vying for that one spot. It came down to Dmv, Zarna and Poppa’s House. As Deadline reported yesterday, the off-cycle Dmv, which tested and screened well, had a slight edge and will now join CBS’ lone single-camera comedy series, Ghosts, which was recently renewed for two seasons. The other pilots are not moving forward while Poppa’s House has been canceled.

'Colin From Accounts' Renewed for Season 3 At Paramount+
Image
Fans of the hit comedy series Colin From Accounts have plenty of reasons to celebrate. Today, Paramount+ revealed that it has picked up the series for Season 3. The streamer also announced that, once again, Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer will return to write, executive produce, and star in the new episodes. The formula has worked well for the show's two previous seasons, so chances are that the third time is the charm for the sitcom. Paramount+ has not yet set a release window for the new season.

The series will continue to follow the everyday lives of Ashley (Dyer) and Gordon (Brammall). The couple became extremely relatable to audiences all over the world because they pretty much represent the millennial angst of trying to keep it together while having no clear idea of where their life is going. It all gets a bit brighter once they adopt a stray dog...

The State of the Race

One of the big takeaways from the winter TV awards season is that “The Bear” has lost a bit of its luster after a polarizing third season. ‘Frasier’ Canceled By Paramount+ After 2 Seasons; Revival Will Be Shopped By CBS Studios
Image
Frasier‘s return has hit a major bump. Paramount+ has opted not to renew the Kelsey Grammer-led comedy for a third season. Producer CBS Studios remains committed to the series and plans to shop it to other outlets.

Those are not expected to include the most logical home for a multi-camera sitcom that originated on broadcast — CBS Studios’ sibling CBS. The network, which is eying a planted spinoff of The Neighborhood among other comedies in development, has no current shelf space available. Possibilities include Prime Video and Hulu, which both carry the library of Frasier‘s original run. Seasons 1 and 2 of the revival, along with the original library episodes, will remain available on Paramount+.

Paramount+ ordered Frasier to series in 2022 with James Burrows directing the first episode. Season 1 premiered a year later and Season 2 dropped in September.

Despite its well known title and Grammer reprising his popular title role,...

Aacta International Awards nominations led by ‘Better Man’ and ‘The Brutalist’
Image
“Better Man,” the Australian-made biopic inspired by the life of British pop star Robbie Williams, received a leading six nominations for the 2025 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (Aacta) International Awards on Tuesday. That reinforced the Oz academy’s love affair with writer-director Michael Gracey‘s (“The Greatest Showman”) musical spectacular, in which Williams is transformed into a chimpanzee, after it garnered a record-breaking 16 nominations at Aacta’s local awards earlier this month. “Better Man” is nominated for Best Film alongside “The Brutalist,” which tied with six noms, as well as Denis Villeneuve‘s epic sequel “Dune: Part Two” and critical darlings “Anora” and “Emilia Pérez.”

This is the fourth year that the Aussie kudos have included categories for television, with FX’s “Shōgun” and “The Bear” leading with three nominations each.

This year’s Aacta International Awards also marked a historic moment with the inclusion of motion-capture and...

Julia Roberts Turned Down a ‘Notting Hill’ Reunion Due to a Divorce Plot, Says Writer Richard Curtis
Image
“Notting Hill” screenwriter Richard Curtis is detailing why there hasn’t been a sequel: And it turns out Julia Roberts part of the reason why.

Curtis told IndieWire while promoting his upcoming Netflix animated film “That Christmas,” which premieres December 4, that he wanted to do a “mini sequel” to the beloved 1999 rom-com as part of Red Nose Day. However, Roberts had issues with the script idea, which involved her A-list actress character Anna Scott divorcing bookstore owner William Thacker, played by Curtis’ longtime collaborator Hugh Grant.

Curtis previously has reunited the cast of his feature “Love Actually” for short film follow-ups that benefit the annual charity event.

When asked if Curtis would want to revisit any of his past films in a formal feature sequel form, he said, “I don’t think so. I actually did four Red Nose Days and Comic Relief. We did those mini sequels to ‘Love Actually’ and those satisfied me.

Why Comedy Fans Shouldn’t Sleep on Paramount+
Image
In need of a good laugh after those Election Day results? Aren’t we all! Paramount+ might be just what the (mental health) doctor ordered.

A new study by Nielsen’s Gracenote has found that Paramount+ features the greatest percentage of comedy-genre content (22.4 percent) of any of the five leading global SVOD services. You can just imagine what that number would be if Paramount+ had the 26 “South Park” seasons, which it won’t get back until June 2025. The streamer can however call home to “Colin From Accounts,” “Star Trek: Lower Decks,” “Knuckles,” and the revival of “Frasier,” to name a few.

Compared to Paramount+, Amazon’s streaming service is as serious as a heart attack. Prime Video’s library, though much larger, is comprised of just 13.9 percent of comedies. Apple TV+ is 19.1 percent comedy, followed by Disney+ at 18.7 percent and Netflix at 18 percent.

That doesn’t mean Amazon Prime Video...

This Underrated Comedy Series Just Got Even Darker in Its Second Season
Image
With husband and wife co-creators Patrick Brammall and Harriet Dyer leading the charge, the Australian romantic comedy series Colin From Accounts has returned for Season 2 on Paramount+. In Season 1, the underrated comedy series followed Brammall's Gordon and Dyer's Ashley taking the responsibility of parenting a disabled dog after meeting each other in the most absurdist fashion possible. Throughout the season, the lead characters navigate their love-hate relationship while dealing with their own set of problems. With the acknowledgment of their love for each other coming in the very final moments of Season 1, Colin From Accounts had a strong foundation to build Season 2. However, the co-creators and lead actors not only amp up the comedic quality and the story of the show, but they also go bolder and braver in the new season. While the minor changes in the chemistry of the show are noticeable throughout Season 2, Episode 7 definitively breaks the...

‘Colin from Accounts’ Makes a Men’s Rights Concert Even Cringier with Original Songs
Image
The beauty of a show receiving a second season is seeing how the writers — having firmly established their characters and world — broaden the show to encompass more. Some shows falter; “Colin from Accounts” soared.

Nowhere is that better expressed than in the plotlines concocted for the friends and family of Gordon (co-creator Patrick Brammall) and Ashley (co-creator Harriet Dyer), both of whom have the requisite oddballs in their lives who, in typical “Colin from Accounts” fashion, are tweaked just enough to be both over-the-top and recognizably human. If Ashley’s mother, Lynelle (Helen Thomson), served as a foil to her daughter (and a symbol of how Ashley became who she is) in Season 1, she gets a truly wild plot in Season 2 that allows both character and actor to step into the spotlight. Literally, when Lynelle takes centerstage for the Episode 7 benefit for Women Against Women Against Men (Wawam for short...

TV Production Should Use Social Media Influencers to Take Big Swings, Says Roku Content Chief
Image
In a TV production climate that saw a 20% plummet in Los Angeles last year and an overall drop-off of 40% since 2022, risky, large-scale prestige projects are no longer the name of the game. But Roku Media content chief David Eilenberg sees a way to keep “risk built into the system”: social media influencers.

Speaking at TheWrap’s annual Grill conference on Tuesday at the DGA Theater Complex, the entertainment executive posited that looking to “that convergence of the digital world with the TV world” and nurturing young talent is “one way to make sure that there’s still enough creative risk” in an industry that’s averse to taking any.

“It’s going to be interesting over the next five years to see some of the talents who came up via YouTube, came up via social channels, have their visions for what TV and film can mean to them,” Eilenberg...
