Christina Hodson and Oren Uziel will co-write the next “Fast and Furious” movie with “Fast X” helmer Louis Leterrier returning to direct.
Last week, Variety exclusively revealed that Leterrier would direct the next installment of “Fast and Furious,” which serves as a companion film to “Fast X,” opening May 19. The 11th film in the Vin Diesel-starring franchise will mark Hodson and Uziel’s first official collaboration.
While news of the team up might come as a surprise to some, the two in-demand creatives are friends and share office space, which made the decision to work together practically inevitable.
Hodson is a British-born, Los Angeles-based, writer and producer, who is best known for writing Paramount’s 2018 “Transformers” prequel “Bumblebee” and writing and co-producing 2020’s “Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey” for Warner Bros. and DC Comics. Her next project is the highly anticipated “The Flash” movie, also for Warner Bros. and DC Comics.

A live-action Spider-Man Noir series based on the Marvel comic is in development at Amazon, Deadline has learned.
Written and executive produced by Oren Uziel (The Lost City) the as-yet untitled series follows an older, grizzled superhero in 1930s New York City. A source close to the project tells Deadline the show is set in its own universe that involves an alternate Spider-Man character who is not Peter Parker.
Uziel developed the series with Academy Award winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and Amy Pascal who will serve as executive producers. Sony Pictures Television, where Lord and Miller are under an overall deal, is the studio.
The Amazon project would be the first live-action depiction of Spider-Man Noir. The alternate version of Spider-Man emerges in a version of New York during the Great Depression. In the comics, Peter Parker is bitten by a spider housed inside a spider-god idol,...

Exclusive: The co-screenwriter of Paramount’s spring hit, The Lost City, Oren Uziel, is giving 20th Century Studios’ Clue movie a big reworking.
The first draft for the Ryan Reynolds movie based on the popular whodunnit Hasbro game was by Rheet Reese and Paul Wernick. James Bobin is attached to direct.
The first feature take of Clue back in 1985 turned into a cult classic during the video era, the pic’s theatrical run stateside grossing just under 15M and featuring all-star cast of Tim Curry, Eileen Brennan, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull, Madeline Kahn and Lesley Ann Warren. Johnathan Lynn directed. Cute piece of distribution with that first movie is that various prints within certain metro areas like LA and NYC played different endings with different murderers (just like the board game).

Spoiler Warning: This story discusses many major plot developments in “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” currently playing in theaters. Please do not read if you have not seen the film.
Of the many multiversal pleasures of “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” one of the most satisfying has been how every single person involved — from director Jon Watts to producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal to stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Benedict Cumberbatch and Marisa Tomei — managed to keep the movie’s biggest secret: Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were both reprising their roles as Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man.
What makes that feat so much more impressive is that everyone expected it to happen. Ever since news leaked that actors like Jamie Foxx and Alfred Molina were reprising their roles as various Spider-Man villains — news Molina happily confirmed to Variety back in April — fans across the globe have flooded the...

Stars: Hannah Marks, Dylan Sprouse, Liana Liberato, Luke Spencer Roberts, Meagan Kimberly Smith, Haley Ramm, Jessica Hecht, Addison Reike, Jacob Batalon | Written by Hannah Marks, Joey Power | Directed by Benjamin Kasulke
April (Hannah Marks) has spent the last two years of high school in a relationship with Nick (Dylan Sprouse), from first frantic make-out session to final tear-stained breakup. In the aimless summer between graduation and college, the newly single April mends her heartbreak by striking up an unexpected friendship with an unlikely candidate: Nick’s new girlfriend, Clara (Liana Liberato).
With an oddball title like Banana Split I was expecting a quirky, just as oddball rom-com. However what you actually get is a touchy tale of two women who should be enemies, after all they’ve both dated and slept with the same guy, but instead find a common bond that leads to a sweet, tender platonic...

While comic book fans have been awaiting word on whether or not Henry Cavill will be getting the chance to play the role of Superman again following 2017's Justice League, Deadline is reporting that Warner Brothers has decided to give his cousin another shot at big screen stardom as Supergirl has gone into development. But without Melissa Benoist, who currently plays the character on the CW's Supergirl. The film, which is in the early stages, is being written by Oren Uziel. His previous credits are an interesting mix of comedy, drama, and horror, among them 22 Jump Street, Freaks of Nature, The Cloverfield Paradox, and next year’s live-action Sonic the Hedgehog. Beyond Supergirl, he’s got 10 different projects in various stages of development. For a little background: The Kryptonian name of Supergirl is Kara Zor-El (earth identity Linda Danvers), who was sent from the doomed planet of Krypton...

February is known as Women in Horror Month, when the spotlight is put on female filmmakers working inside our favorite genre, and many horror sites run pieces about movies directed by women. And that’s great! But there’s no reason why that spotlight should be limited to only one month, particularly when there are so many brilliant and talented female filmmakers working in the genre. Why not use this October to hit up these titles on Shudder and get to know some of the most exciting female voices in horror right now?

Upcoming space-set adventure, God Particle, is going to be set in the same universe as both Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane, The Wrap reports. Though both previous movies only shared tenuous connections, they were supposed to take place in the same continuity, and this new J.J. Abrams-produced sci-fi film will follow suit. In fact, word is Abrams and Paramount Pictures plan to develop more movies in the coming years to form a sort of Cloverfield Cinematic Universe. How exactly they'll all wind up interconnecting remains to be seen, but it's certainly an intriguing prospect. God Particle (probably not the final title) is about a group of astronauts who make "a shocking discovery, that changes the fabric of reality, leading to a fight for their survival," and stars David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ziyi Zhang, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Brühl and Chris O’Dowd. The movie is directed by Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street,...

On the heels of steering 10 Cloverfield Lane out of the shadows and toward box office success, J.J. Abrams is dusting himself down in preparation for his latest producing gig with Bad Robot’s God Particle.
Since nailing down a 2017 release window, the brainy sci-fi feature has been quietly picking up steam in a genre that has no shortage of high-profile features in the pipeline – namely Passengers and Seth Rogen’s The Something – with today bringing word that David Oyelowo (Selma) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Concussion) have enlisted for Julius Onah’s upcoming thriller.
No details were given as to the characters they’ll play, though it’s a safe bet that they’ll portray some of the scientists dabbling with the elusive Higgs Boson. In physics, the God Particle is the evocative title given to a subatomic particle that lends atoms their mass, and has been a fundamental part of physics...

Bad Robot and Paramount pulled the rug out from underneath us all by unveiling that 10 Cloverfield Lane, the quasi-sequel to Matt Reeves’ 2008 creature freature, would creep into theaters next month. But there’s another low-budget sci-fi simmering in development at Bad Robot, and that is Julius Onah’s new feature God Particle.
Having welcomed aboard Star Trek Beyond scribe Doug Jung before the turn of the year, the studio has now officially locked in God Particle for a release on February 24, 2017.
Outside of Onah and Jung, there’s no word of casting for Bad Robot’s futuristic sci-fi at the time of writing, though we understand the latter was drafted in to rewrite a script originally pitched by Freaks of Nature and 22 Jump Street scribe, Oren Uziel.

A friend of mine and I were deciding what we wanted to do Halloween night and came to the conclusion we wanted to see a movie. I checked times on the local theater’s website and noticed a movie called “Freaks of Nature.”
The blurb describing the movie said it involved zombies, vampires, and humans co-existing in the town of Dillford, until aliens show up and, essentially, wreck everything. As soon as I read this blurb out loud, my friend’s face lit up, he grinned, and said “We have to go to that one.”
So, we did. We had no expectations. The only name we recognized in the miniscule summary was Joan Cusack, and they didn’t even bother to mention what her role would be. The poster looks like it could have come from any teen-centric horror movie from the very late seventies to the mid-eighties, easily. It...

Last year, the top twelve films tallied a mere $79.9 million over the final weekend in October. It was the sixth worst weekend of 2014. Looking over the list of newcomers hitting theaters this weekend*Burnt, Our Brand is Crisis and Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse*and the lackluster returns of last week's new releases, it appears this weekend's top twelve will be even worse by about $10 million. Despite four new wide releases last weekend, none of them were able to crack the top three. The Martian has taken the #1 spot three out of the last four weekends, returning to the top position last weekend after briefly ceding to Sony's Goosebumps the week prior. Both films have shown small, weekend-to-weekend drops and it appears they'll be jockeying for first and second place again. Managing to play to two different audiences, both films should drop in the 33% range for weekend's just north of $10 million.

Aside from the comedy superstars, Freaks of Nature also stars Vanessa Hudgens, Wicked City's Ed Westwick and Josh Fadem as our last line of defence from monster supremacy.
Freaks of Nature crashes into Us cinemas in time for Halloween on October 30.

"If we just work together then we can save our sh*tty town!" Sony has debuted the official red band trailer for a very gory, very wacky horror comedy called Freaks of Nature. The film is based on a popular Black List script by Oren Uziel called The Kitchen Sink, which is a horror-sci-fi-comedy mashup that combines vampires, zombies, and aliens. This has a great comedian ensemble cast including Keegan-Michael Key, Bob Odenkirk, Patton Oswalt, Denis Leary, plus Joan Cusack, Vanessa Hudgens, Mackenzie Davis, Nicholas Braun and Ed Westwick. I don't think this will be any good, but give it a look anyway. Here's the first red band trailer for Robbie Pickering's Freaks of Nature, found on Sony's YouTube: In the town of Dillford, humans, vampires and zombies were all living in peace - until the alien apocalypse arrived. Now three teenagers-one human, one vampire, and one zombie-have to...

It’s original title, Kitchen Sink, tells you all you need to know about horror comedy Freaks of Nature. The movie welcomes us to the town of Dilford, where vampires top the social order, with zombies on the bottom and humans stuck in the middle. But this delicate balance is thrown into chaos when the apocalypse arrives in the form of interplanetary invaders. So yeah, it’s humans vs. vampires vs. zombies vs. aliens, and the first Nsfw trailer definitely lives up to the promise of that insane premise. Throwing in every conceivable horror trope may seem like overkill, but it works incredibly well here, with Freaks of Nature finding the perfect balance between horror and comedy. On top of that, it has a brilliant comedic cast, including Dennis Leary, Patton Oswald, Keegan Michael-Key, and Bob Odenkirk. At the very least, Freaks of Nature has future cult classic written all over it.

Today we have a restricted trailer for the upcoming "Freaks of Nature," which was considered one of the best unproduced scripts. The cast include Nicholas Braun, Mackenzie Davis, Vanessa Hudgens,Joan Cusack, Keegan-Michael Key, Denis Leary, Bob Odenkirk and Patton Oswalt. Check it out below. Plot: We welcome you to Dillford, where three days ago, everything was peaceful and business as usual: the vampires were at the top of the social order, the zombies were at the bottom, and the humans were getting along in the middle. But this delicate balance was ripped apart when the alien apocalypse arrived in Dillford and put an end to all the harmony. Now it's humans vs. vampires vs. zombies in all-out, blood-sucking, brain-eating, vamp-staking mortal combat – and all of them are on the run from the aliens. It is up to three teenagers – one human, one vampire, and one zombie – to team up,...

A few years ago Oren Uziel wrote a script called The Kitchen Sink, a horror-sci-fi-comedy mashup that combined vampires, zombies, and aliens and had Jonah Hill attached to direct until he landed himself an Academy Award nomination and exited the project as fast as he could. Sony then tapped Robbie Pickering (Natural Selection) to direct the picture instead, and now years later, it’s finally set for a release under a new title. Fans of horror comedy might be interested in Freaks of Nature, a bizarre mishmash of Monster Squad and Zombieland, about a small American town that gets caught in a war between the undead.
Starring Nicholas Braun, Mackenzie Davis, Ed Westwick, Vanessa Hudgens, Keegan-Michael Key, Joan Cusack, Bob Odenkirk, Denis Leary, and Cerina Vincent, Freaks of Nature opens just in time for Halloween on October 30th. Watch the trailer below.

Talk about throwing The Kitchen Sink at you... literally. Sony has had a movie on their hands for awhile called just that - The Kitchen Sink. At one point in time, Jonah Hill was having conversations about making his directorial debut with it. That ultimately didn't come to be, with Robbie Pickering taking the project that featured an all-out war in some shitty small town being fought between humans and... Read More...

One of our favorite indie dramas of the last few years is Natural Selection, a small-scale project that premiered at SXSW. Four years later, director Robbie Pickering is now back with his follow-up, this time going the Hollywood route with Sony Pictures’ genre mash-up Freaks of Nature, previously titled The Kitchen Sink.
Having begun production well over two years, after a few delays, it’s now set to land in two short weeks with a cast featuring Mackenzie Davis, Ed Westwick, Vanessa Hudgens, Keegan-Michael Key, Joan Cusack, Bob Odenkirk, Denis Leary, Cerina Vincent, and Patton Oswalt. When one sets up vampires, humans and zombies to fight each other, it’ll certainly be chaotic but this looks a bit tonally all over the place. We’ll find out if it’s worth seeing soon, and in the meantime, one can find the trailer below.

Every year, there’s at least one major film on the release schedule that has the most random cast and a topic so Wtf that the audience begins to wonder: who the hell decided this should be a movie and who is this movie for? Some of those movies can turn out to be surprising hits or pleasures (“Pitch Perfect,” “Hot Tub Time Machine,” “Project X”) and some not so much (“Hot Tub Time Machine 2,” Project Almanac,” etc.). That not-so-glowing distinction in 2015 goes to “Freaks Of Nature” — formerly known as "The Kitchen Sink" — a kind of modern “Monster Squad” with a lets-pick-these-guys-out-of-a-hat cast. Here’s the official synopsis: Read More: Patton Oswalt And Bob Odenkirk Fill 'The Kitchen Sink' In Freaks of Nature, we welcome you to Dillford, where three days ago, everything was peaceful and business as usual: the vampires were at the top of the social order,...

Good day, avengers of all things closet-bound and feared. Hollywood kicked off the Halloween season with the Conjuring prequel Annabelle and audiences were ready to watch it. In order for humans to team up with zombies and vampires, you know the circumstances must be dire. In Sony’s upcoming horror comedy, Kitchen Sink, an alien invasion forces the living to team up with fanged fiends and the shambling dead in order to save their town, though viewers will have to wait longer to see this unlikely bond, as Sony has delayed the release of Kitchen Sink by nearly eight months.
Exhibitor Relations reports that Sony has moved the release of Kitchen Sink from its January 9th, 2015 slot to September 4th. The monster mash-up movie has been described as having a vibe akin to The Breakfast Club, but we’ll have to wait for a trailer and more synopsis details to see what ghoulish goods could be in store. Stay tuned to Daily Dead for further updates.

One horror film is moving out of a busy period for the genre in 2015. Sony is pushing Kitchen Sink out of its January 9, 2015 slot to September 4, 2015. This moves the film out of a weekend in which it was going to compete with Fox's Victor Frankenstein and into pretty free weekend. (I'm sure that month will fill up as we get closer to that date.)
Kitchen Sink is directed by Robbie Pickering and is based on a Black List script by Oren Uziel.

Relativity have announced that Hammer's horror sequel 'The Woman in Black: Angel of Death' will be hitting Us theatres on 30 January 2015. A slightly disappointing announcement for a British horror especially as those in the UK won't get to see a general release at the moment until 13 February. Perhaps this new Us date will help towards a slight shift in the coming weeks. Tom Harper's 'Angel of Death' follows up the terrifying action from 2012's 'The Woman in Black' which saw Daniel Radcliffe face off against the sinister spectre. January will see a number of other horror titles arriving on Us shores including Franck Khalfoun's 'Amityville: The Awakening' (2 January) and Robbie Pickering's 'The Kitchen Sink' (9 January)....
