A funny, action-packed adventure that's faithful to the original show
themadmovieman28 August 2020
This has to be one of the better feature-length adaptations of Disney Channel cartoons. As was the case with the first Phineas and Ferb movie, Across The 2nd Dimension, too often do these films rely on 'large-scale' action, without remaining faithful to the essence of the actual show, often for fear of just being an extended TV episode.

However, Candace Against The Universe is different, as it manages to tell an engaging feature-length story while still retaining the original show's brilliantly zany sense of humour and imagination. What's more, with a heartfelt story and an uplifting message in the end, it's a pleasant and joyful kids' movie that has something for all to enjoy.

But most importantly, if you've not seen Phineas and Ferb before, you'll be completely lost from the start of the movie. To its credit, this film is designed first and foremost for fans of the original series, and doesn't spend any time explaining the characters, their back stories and relationships.

That means it gets straight into the action, impressively using every second of its 86 minute runtime to tell a fun, action-packed story. If you've never seen Phineas and Ferb before, though, you'll likely be bemused at every second, from why the relationship between Candace and her brothers seems so strained to why they have a secret agent platypus for a pet.

Fans of the show, however, will love the heaps of references to the original cartoon, as well as its faithful revival of the series' core qualities. Unlike Across The 2nd Dimension, which often took itself a little too seriously, Candace Against The Universe is a feature-length episode of the show, with all the same humour, imagination and heart on display.

There is sci-fi and action that you wouldn't normally see in a 10-minute episode, but that's secondary to the film's fun factor. From non-sequitur jokes galore to moments of really surprising, heartfelt drama, this movie has pretty much everything that you love about the show, with the exception of some really catchy songs.

But the main thing that makes this movie so fun is that it really doesn't take itself seriously. The story isn't particularly thrilling, but it is entertaining and engaging throughout, even when it doesn't make a lick of sense. Couple that with a screenplay that puts faith in your connection to the characters, and Candace Against The Universe proves an utterly delightful watch from start to finish.

made me cry
harpertastic29 August 2020
I love Phineas and Ferb, and even thought the music in this one was mostly forgettable and the villain didn't exactly hit the mark, I still liked the movie. They talked more about Candace, which I liked. They didn't include Perry the Platypus as much as I wish they did, but I thought it was funny that Doof hung out with the kids. There was something off about Ferb's voice, maybe a different voice actor. Overall it was good, and my little brother loved it. 7/10

Different, but fun, and faithful to the original story, and Characters
enesdin29 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Phineas and Ferb still has its thing; still has everything make is it unique and original from characters to cliches. Only Ferb's voice actor was different. Couldn't figure out why they did not use the original actors old voice records; Ferb had 3-4 lines throughout the movie.

It fulfills it's promise from the beginning to the end. You just love everything you see in 85 minutes; never becomes boring and/or exhausting.

The only different thing they had done in this movie from the original show is the story structure. In a casual Phineas and Ferb episode, the main event develops around Phineas and Ferb, and Candice chases the boys and the story. Doof and Perry usually has a separate story, and both story come together at the end, but in this movie the main event develops around Candice, the boys and Doof chases Candice together. So, there is no seperate Doof and Perry story. It was quite enjoyable still.

I hope that they do reboot the original series, and get away with that because obviously they still have bunch cool and fun ideas to represent, and they deserve to do this.

A complete Joy Ride
pronitmallick31 August 2020
Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against The Universe check out as a movie that will definitely give you the vibes of nostalgia if you are an OG fan. The pacing feels a little bit fast in the beginning but overall it seems fine. The comic timing, humor, and songs, every single element of the movie tries to keep you on your seat the entire time. Overall it's a movie that you can definitely watch for at least once to enjoy the pure fun.

Great movie for Family's and Fans
I grew up watching this show, so I know that I'm clouded by nostalgia, but... It was good, kind of felt like a little reunion for the fans and the characters. It had lots of references to older episodes that someone who hasn't seen most of the show wouldn't get, but I don't think they'll ruin the watching experience. Lots of good joke, although some didn't land, but that is to be expected with any comedy. There were a few pop culture references that will date the movie and maybe feel "cringe" (just 'cause I want to make this review feel dated). Has good pacing and doesn't slip too much at the third act, but it still does a little, although I'm not sure if that's because I started to feel restless at the 45 minute mark or the film ( I get restless at that point in all movies so...) it has a predictable story but is not hindered too much by that fact. Over all I enjoyed it, it was fun to watch with my parents and siblings, good pick for a family movie night.

A Little Under-baked
GavinT36028 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I am a huge fan of Phineas and Ferb, and I was thrilled to see it return for a full movie! But I'd be lying if I said it was a little underwhelming. It took quite a long time for this movie to find its footing, but after it did, it definitely became a more interesting adventure of Phineas and Ferb. The conflict of the movie is that Candace feels like the universe is against her, and that her brothers are what's ruining her life. This conflict is amazing in concept, and is definitely a fantastic side of the story to tell, but the delivery feels a little under-baked. Even the emotional climax of the film felt a little unearned. I felt the heart, but at that point I didn't exactly understand why Candace was so unexpectedly sad. Candace's arc was really inconsistent, and she only really felt like herself at the very beginning and the very end. The jokes were about as good as they were in season four of the series, which was the weaker of the show. Some jokes were great, and I audibly laughed, but others were just ok. The short list of musical numbers in this film weren't the same quality that I had expected from this series, with the exception being the opening song that was funny and catchy. I feel like it's fair to compare this movie to its predecessor, "Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension", which I feel like has bested this film in every possible way. "2nd Dimension" had it's incredible story presented excellently with its visuals, dialogue, and musical numbers. I also have to mention that some of the jokes in this movie had me laughing hysterically! The emotional beats broke your heart and made you feel for the characters. The climax of the movie was the massive battle that brought together everything we love about Phineas and Ferb, and that scene felt like a reward for everything that the characters had gone through. "Candace against the Universe" fell apart in almost every way comparatively. The musical number that finished this movie was pleasant, and upbeat, but still didn't sum up the show or this movie in a satisfying way. This movie could've been an amazing Phineas and Ferb side-story, but it just doesn't feel completed.

Definitely the best movie on Disney+
joshuaduffy-0140629 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this movie as someone who grew up with Phineas and Ferb when it came out in 2007 this hit all the right spots. Candace was definitely the star of the movie as we see how failing to bust her brothers really affects her and how she appreciates them. This is definitely something we rarely see on the show when she appreciates them. The only times we saw that side of her was in Dude, We're Getting The Band Back Together, Phineas and Ferb Get Busted, Summer Belongs To You, and Last Day Of Summer. I'm glad to see that side of her as we see what makes Candace, Candace. There were also some brilliant gags in the movie as I laughed the whole way through it's definitely got that same humour from the show, and I'm glad the cast have still got it as their characters as I was definitely transported back to my childhood when I heard those voices.

Definitely worth a watch and definitely the best movie on Disney+ period.

A bit strange, but not bad
SofiaHedge29 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I just saw this tonight, and I thought this film was okay, but at the same time, I thought this movie was weird. I liked the moral of the story, but the whole movie was just...strange. There were a few scenes that were just...weird. The story was...kind of predictable. And there was some very cheesy dialogue. When the movie was over, I looked on the internet to see what others thought of this movie. I gotta say, I was surprised that it got 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. But this movie isn't bad; there were some really good parts in this movie. I sympathized with Candace and her desire to be "special," and also her humor. I liked Isabella's determination. And I was amused by Vanessa's bravery. She really kept calm even when she was on an alien planet far away from home! So overall, this movie isn't bad.

I love watching the show!! My only complaint about the newest movie "Candace Against The Universe", is that the animation was not very good. Overall though, I loved it. The gang really needs to come back.

Against the universe
MB-reviewer18523 September 2022
The show Phineas and Ferb (2007-2015) is a great show on Disney Channel that I recommend watching if you have not already and thought Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension (2011) was a great first movie. So, I was excited for the second movie Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe (2020) coming 5 years later after the show ended.

Phineas and Ferb the Movie-Candace Against the Universe (2020) is a great return for Phineas and Ferb, being just as fun as the show and just as funny with the same great characters.

Phineas, Ferb, Candace, Perry the Platypus, and Dr. Doofenshmirtz are still great and likable characters, while also being funny throughout. It starts out with them doing what they usually do in the show then things change, and they go on a fun adventure to rescue Candace.

The animation is still great and there lots of funny moments, there are some visual gags and will occasionally have some self-aware humor that was funny. The songs in the movie are catchy, fun, and are used at right moments.

There is a fun ultimate battle in the 3rd act and the movie ends with a nice tone. I recommend watching the show Phineas and Ferb (2007-2015) and Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension (2011) before Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe (2020), so you can enjoy it more and have fun with it.

Fly With Me
raben-8114622 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I have not been the biggest follower of Phineas and Ferb since 2007, but I had to see this movie special as Cellspex mentioned this in her 2020 best and worst of movie list. Candace and her friends is up against aliens in this movie as there are all sort of songs and music from march bands to radio friendly songs, cartoony ones and heavier songs. There is also a gift at the end for those fans who have been aboard since the 2000s. This might not had been the award season stuff of last year, but a lot of nostalgia and fun for the members of the family that watches and wants to join the Phineas and Ferb universe.

Phineas and Ferb are Back!
danielprevell28 August 2020
Just watched it and it was amazing. Made me come back to my childhood, the story is action packed, the animation is so fluid, the characters are great and the songs. Oh my gosh the songs are some of the best I've ever listened to for Phineas and Ferb. So good, I preordered the soundtrack to listen to them again. I know what you're gonna do today. Watch this movie on Disney+!

Certainly not at their finest but still tons of fun!
titushowlett11 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The Negatives: A bit disappointing in terms of the plot as it is a bit basic and underwhelming. Quite a bit of wasted potential as it is a very natural segway from where the show left off. The animation is still really good but some shots felt a bit uncanny at times. The ending was sweet but extremely surface level and kinda forced.

The Positives: The voice actors are still amazing and timeless as ever. The songs are hilarious, charming, and memorable. Most of the jokes land pretty well with the expense of very few that go on too long or aren't timed well. The development of the characters seem very natural and well written. Expanding their universe to other planets is not only pretty solid for world building, but also makes sense. Dr. Doofenschmirtz is easily the best character in here. He joins up with Phineas and the gang to rescue Vanessa and Candace upon an accident with some mystery creation that Candace assumed Phineas and Ferb built. The character interactions and jokes are hilarious and fairly unseen.

Overall a pretty flawed but fun movie that's certainly worth watching

Was this movie worth waiting for? Yes. Yes, it was.

Warning: Spoilers
I have a confession to make. I actually became a fan of Phineas and Ferb while the show was in its fourth and final season. I was already in my late 20s by then, but somehow, the series really got to me. And one of the characters I related to most was Candace Flynn. I mean, sure, she seemed to be painted as somewhat of a villain because she constantly wanted her brothers to be busted, but she also had some sympathetic qualities. And also, Ashley Tisdale always gave a hilarious vocal performance every time she screamed "Mom!" So after the show ended, of course I was excited that a new movie based on the show would be coming to Disney+, and that Candace would be heavily featured.

So far, I am on my fifth viewing of this movie! It is definitely that good! Obviously, having Candace be the center of the film was a great idea, and Ashley probably gave the performance of her life. I also really love all the callbacks to the original series, especially all the cameos. A discussion about Phineas and Ferb would not be complete without the songs, and once again, they knocked it out of the park, with highlights being "Such a Beautiful Day", "Adulting", and "Us Against the Universe". But what stole the show for me was Tiffany Haddish appearing as "The Sound Someone Makes When They Explode from the Waist Up" (which just so happens to sound like someone saying Candace's name), and every time it happened, it just kept getting funnier and funnier. Well, I know what I'm gonna do today: Watch it yet again.

great idea, terrible execution.
thomasfanelli3 September 2020
After seeing the trailer for this movie, i was looking forward to watching it. i grew up watching phineas and ferb and was really hoping for a nostalgic experience, but all i got was a fairly cringey poor attempt at a movie. the jokes we're predictable, the songs didn't give off their old vibe, and it just wasn't funny. quite frankly i didn't laugh once. i give disney some credit however. they didn't HAVE to make this movie but they still did. as much as i didn't particularly enjoy the movie, it was fairly nostalgic. i recommend watching it, just be prepared for disappointment :)

A good enough return
annahudak-708287 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have always loved "Phineas and Ferb." The first episode I ever saw was the one with "Gitchee Gitchee Goo." So, I was an early fan. When the show ended, I was crushed. So, when I heard about this movie I got excited. Well, I don't have Disney+, and that is the only way to watch it (legally). So, I didn't have a chance to watch it until now. Anyway, it was fine. It wasn't great by any means. This is the first Phineas and Ferb special or movie to be, in my opinion, forgettable. I just saw this last night and I am struggling to remember much of what happened. It basically felt like a really extended TV show episode to be honest, as opposed to a movie. Kinda felt like it dragged on too long. The villain reminded me a lot of the villain from LEGO Movie 2, but less charismatic and less funny. The songs in this movie weren't all that good to be honest and were, well, forgettable. There really aren't any songs I feel interested in listening to again.

So, I have been quite negative on this so far, but now I want to discuss what I liked about this, because I don't want it to sound as if I think this movie sucked, because I don't. It's good, but forgettable. Anyway, this movie contains a lot of heart, the kind of heart to be expected from Phineas and Ferb. A little too on-the-nose, but still heartwarming. This movie focuses on Candace instead of Phineas and Ferb this time around, and we see her as she feels as if she isn't special, as if she doesn't matter, and her summer has been miserable. So, she gets taken to a planet where she is the chosen one. Eventually, of course, as easily predicted, this isn't a good thing, and she learns that she is special to Phineas and Ferb, and is loved.

The other good thing is that while the humor isn't that great in this movie, there are some genuinely hilarious moments, but don't expect this to be quite as funny as previous movies and specials. The scene of the characters getting returned to a storyboard state and getting to see the creators of the show was a highlight in humor for me.

The Best Yet!
Cam4Sullivan29 August 2020
This film took what the original show did and put it to a whole new level; it stuck to its roots and did a damn good job at it.

The plot, songs, comedy and characters are so rich and alive with feeling and emotional impact. While I'm not a critic, I've seen my far share of badly adapted tv show movies and this is not one of them; this is one of the best, if not the best. This film brought me so much joy and happiness seeing these characters I grew up with go through a whole new adventure with an appropriately sized Disney budget. I'm pretty sure that this is one of the only feature length films in the last few years that's 2D animation, not 3D (something that I'm happy about).

Overall, I'm blown away. Despite not having worked on the show for 8 or so years, Dan and 'Swampy' manage to tell and engaging, happy, funny, deep and meaning story about the struggles of the whole universe being against you.

Absolutely amazing, 10/10

Meh
chacham31 August 2020
Pros:
  • Phinneas and Ferb
  • A couple of the gags
Meh:
  • Songs
  • Characters
Cons:
  • Plot
  • Most of the execution

I watched this movie because i love the show and the first movie was amazing. Compared to the first movie, this movie is terrible. Even the mediocre episodes are better than this. I would go as far as to say that's it's got almost none of the magic, and only a little of the usual humor.

All of the voices are there as are the main characters. The movie spends a lot of time making fun of what the characters are supposed to be doing rather than just doing it. For example, in one episode of the show, after the doof evil inc jingle, we see the people singing it in the next room. In the movie, they make fun of the music or sound effects as well, except they wonder about it and then give up. It's a cute gag gone stupid. There's another where they do other stupid things with social media and whatnot. The humor just falls flat.

A second major point of the story is the sentimentality. It really doesn't flow. And then when they bring it to its crescendo at the end of the movie, where it might have worked, but because the build up was so bad, it's comes off poorly.

They even tried to pull off a scene similar to the now-is-now scene from Spaceballs (where they watch the movie to find the rebels). Cute idea, but painful to watch.

Not everything is terrible though. Doof has a cute invention and a half-decent song. Norm has a cameo. The opening scene with Doof is worthwhile.

I don't think the creators lost their touch, inasmuch as tried too hard for meta humor. I'm surprised the movie made it past the test audience.

Overall, i would recommend not wasting your time on this movie. Even if you're a fan of the show, it's mostly a boring waste of time.

Phineas and Ferb the Movie Candance againste the universe
marmar-6978030 August 2020
I will start with saying that i never watched this tv show as a kid and since im 21 now i doubt i will watch it now anytime soon, but still since i was bored i decided to watch this film and i must say that i was more or less satisfayed with a final product..Story was fine and it had some great family moments in it and young kids and old fans will be happy with a time spent of a big or small screen.Animation was also fine for this kind of budget and voice acting was also impressive cause it is more a little know tv show and not some big budget animation project.
