A "comedy" that's a bit ruff around the edges
mrdanielkanewilliams28 March 2024
In this film Frank Dubosc plays Jack, a jewel thief who's priceless ruby gets swallowed by a stray dog and now he has no option but to adopt this dog and wait until it poos out his ruby. And shortly after adopting the dog he gets chased by police officer, Brandt (Philippe Lacheau) to a crowded airport where he meets a famous cat called Diva (voiced by Ines Reg) who gets glammed by her owner (Reem Kharki) so she can post videos and pictures of her on Instagram. Unfortunately after Jack and Diva's owner board a plane to New York, Diva and Jack's dog fall out of their cages. And Jack and Diva's owner try to catch them but Diva and Jack's dog think that their owners have flown to New York so they try to make their own way there.

And at first I was enjoying this comedy but a 1/3 of the way into the film some of the jokes aren't funny at all for example I thought it was weird when the dog thought his name was poo poo because his owner kept telling him to poo. And this is followed by some really bad acting. And also by the end the really bad CGI cat and dog annoyed me.

But during the last 2/3s of the movie there are some bits of the film that made me chuckle slightly for example there is this part at the end where Jack and Diva's owner are in a van and Brandt tries to pull Jack out but he ends up getting dragged along and hit in the balls by a pole.

But overall I was only kept mildly entertained throughout the film and I probably won't watch it again or even recommend it to a kid because there's better kids films on Netflix.

Fun movie
bworden-8402224 March 2024
Spoiled with today's generated animation, the animals were disappointing. Once i got beyond that and appreciated the movie for what it is... I found myself laughing and enjoying this light hearted movie. Relax, no one is trying to win an Oscar here. There is thought behind the story. The humor is funny, original and the acting is good. The movie I watched was dubbed so good I had forgotten shortly after it started. I hadn't heard of this movie and started watching it with an open mind. It caught my attention before long which kept me involved even after seeing less than ideal animation of animals. They kind of reminded me of the Scooby Doo animation in the movies starring Sarah Michelle Gellar & Freddie Prince Jr.

A strange but fun film
LetsReviewThat2624 March 2024
Cat and dog is straightforward in it's description and how it plays out, but it's very odd. The main two animals in this chichi a dog, and diva a cat are CGI. They also talk and though it's a comedy I just find the way they are animated to be very offitting. Don't get me wrong though I still thought they worked well and their scenes were good. A jewel theif ends up with divas mother on a plane and both have to save their pets after they end up getting blown away. I liked the chemistry between the main stars and there were some fun parts and overall this was an overall warming movie with strange but enjoyable plot.

Biased
niclitty24 March 2024
I love animal movies because I'm a animal person which I'm sure lots of people is, who found this movie. The most intriguing part is knowing the animal characteristics but it's completely baised and unrealistic the cat doesn't even use its inherited senses or reflexes like how is a puppy way smarrter than a cat even house cats know better this is so biased and it makes the woman seem useless and gullible, very sexist if you ask me, her script made her seem dumb the fact the movie made it seem like her only good accomplishment was taking her shirt off, such a biased sexist movie not kid friendly at all either.

Not worth the time.
imdb-1877619 March 2024
The film is a badly dubbed (French Canadian? ) comedy? The jokes ( of one could even call them that ) are hackneyed at best. The characters are not interesting. The Dog and Cat (Chein et Chat) have no redeeming qualities. I feel sorry for the producers of this film because its budget must have been higher than production values would likely have normally been due to the Dog and Cat animation. I was surprised that Netflix posted this as the number three streamed in the United States the day I watched it. I should have just stopped watching it but, I genuinely thought there was a chance ir could somehow redeem itself.

Plot: A ruby is stolen, the thief is being chased by a "cop". (The cop character is the only character that is the tiniest of fun in the film) The thief drops the ruby. Dog swallows the ruby. Thief grabs dog and they both run into cat and cat's owner. Cat and Dog are anthropomorphic and become separated from their humans who chase them. Hilarity does NOT ensue.

It's terrible
GryeD18 March 2024
I watched it on Netflix, oh man, this movie is filled with flaws. I don't even know if it's possible to count them all.

While I am a casual fan of talking animal-themed movies, This one...had no direction. Let's go into depth about why.

The 3DCG is so obvious it will bother you throughout the whole film. It's like oil and water, they will never match or align as they will always stand out.

Movie Theme? Genre? Direction? What was it? I didn't see what exactly was the development here.

Is this movie meant to be cheezy and questionable in logic? It's like the majority of the characters here aren't that smart.

I expected a bimodal distribution in ratings for this one...
AlsExGal20 March 2024
... because it is really an odd combination of genres so you are probably going to either love it or hate it. It is like a wedding of Home Alone with its hapless criminal duo and Homeward Bound with its animals - a dog and cat - who basically do not like each other, on the road to find home. And yet this is not a children's film nor really a film for adults either because it is so inane. The probably largely forgotten film "Batteries Not Included" from 1988 comes to mind as having a similar problem. I liked it, but then you put a cat - real or bad CGI as is the case here - as a major character in a film and I'll watch it and probably like it, so I do make that disclaimer.

While I'm mentioning CGI - it's very badly done here. Neither the cat nor the dog look the least bit real. I thought the CGI in 2020's updated version of Call of the Wild was pretty bad, but this makes that film look like a CGI masterpiece. Then there is the dubbing - It is very badly done from the original French Canadian.

So my suspiciously high rating is mainly for people who like cats - even badly rendered ones - and the people who love them.

So-So story, poor CGI animals
andyross24 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The basic story is moderately OK. A small dog ends up swallowing a ruby stolen by a thief. The thief takes the dog and puts a diaper on it to catch the ruby when it passes. He tries to escape to New York at an airport and runs into a woman with a fat, pampered cat. He pretends to be blind to get through security. The cat and dog ends up going as cargo, but fall off the cart and escape. Everyone goes through silly antics to get back together.

A major letdown is the poor CGI quality of the cat and dog. It's at that weird "uncanny valley" level that sticks out every time you see it. They almost look real, but the movements just don't seem right.

Some have commented about bad dubbing. I watched this on Netflix in the original French with English subtitles, as it is how I watch all non-English movies.

I Enjoyed It
nammage19 March 2024
I enjoyed it. Reminded me of Classic slapstick comedy but modernised and .. I would like to say targeted for children but it's not really a children's film. The preview did make the animation dull looking but it looked fine during the film. I laughed throughout the entire film; it has stupid antics, funny action scenes and I really enjoyed it. I really don't get the low rating.

I guess it's just a taste thing. If you like slapstick comedy, I think one would enjoy this; nothing has to be perfectly made, just has to be enjoyable and I enjoyed it.

The story is about two things: first a robbery of a ruby, which a dog accidentally swallows; and a cat, who is named 'Diva', and does in fact live up to her name. Sort of like 'Homeward Bound' but not really, just a cat and a dog on a journey to find their owners who are looking for them and they keep getting further and further away from them. Also has a sense of bonding with the two 'owners' looking for them and the relationship of the dog and cat. The dog's name is profane; I'll refrain from saying it here but I, again, quite enjoyed the film. Something to watch when you're tired of all the seriousness of the world itself.

VIEWS ON FILM review of Cat and Dog
burlesonjesse518 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
What I learned from 2024's Cat and Dog, is that its filmmakers need more of a purpose than just servicing their art form. I mean you can have all the split screens, slow-mos, and bisection of animation in the world and not find an audience. Cat and Dog, well it's too violent and offhandedly creepy for the kiddies. And well, it's too annoying and tiredly dated for the adults. "Something's fishy". Uh, you ain't kidding.

So yeah, Cat and Dog is a pseudo comedy I suppose and/or a harmless, slapstick action caper. This vehicle doesn't have much of a tone and it's one of those flicks where the people involved had much more fun making it than the viewer has watching it. Yes there are talking animals but their dialogue is as cringey as it is awkward (enough with the "can I smell your butt?" stuff please). And yes there are talking humans too but they act like junior high dolts, parading around like they're in some goofy, Laugh-In skit. Basically if Cat and Dog would just shut up occasionally and not constantly wink at the audience, I would've enjoyed it a little more. "Ma'am, you're cat is fine". Uh, can't say the same for Cat and Dog.

Starring the likes of Franck Dubosc and Reem Kherici and distributed by Top Film Distribution (oxymoron alert), Cat and Dog is about a cat and a dog who escape from their cages and go on a quest to find their owners. Cat and Dog also involves a jewel heist insinuated by said dog's owner to cash in on a ruby red diamond. So OK, do we care about anyone included? Not really. Do we give a hoot about the outcomes of Cat and Dog's bonehead personas? Uh nope. And despite the fact that there's a lot going on in this movie does it evaporate profusely as you watch it? That would be a yes. "Woof woof" for this "dog that won't hunt".

Loved It
pwxcnesu20 March 2024
I would watch it again. I laughed throughout the movie and it was much better than I expected. Like one reviewer mentioned, it similar to Homeward Bound, but not. You have the talking animals and real life people.

I was told about the movie, because it had a Maine Coon cat in it. That got me to watch it. The silliness and the interactions between all the characters is what kept me watching it.

You have the cat who truly was a diva, evolved into a loveable kitty. The puppy, who stole my heart early on. Almost made me cry. The interactions between the two had a couple profound moments. I'm actually hoping for a sequel.

The humans involved, were interesting with some twists and surprises in the movie. Even the bad guys were enjoyable...sorta.

Very enjoyable movie.

Great fun and at times sad movie.
TotoReviews20 March 2024
A surprisingly witty and sophisticated spy movie spoof that will tickle adult pet lovers and still capture kids

This is a brilliant light hearted, funny and at parts sad. Movies animated characters were lovely addition with an underlying message of unity against prejudice.

A cat (pampered star) and dog (homeless ) unite to find their way back home having to endure many dangerous hurdles along the way. The story was about navigating in a world which lives are lived on social sites and popularity, loneliness.

... and there is a happy ending. It's a great film for the whole family to enjoy.

End.

Super

This was a great temporary pleasure of my experience of life. I loved this film. It was really good. I will watch it again. The characters were great, they invoked emotion and many a laugh from my partner (F25) and I. I can't wait to show my friends.

"I liked the clever physical comedy" - That was my partner's favourite thing.

My favourite part of the movie was when the Dog and the Baddy Man broke the fourth wall in their respective scenes. Very funny!

In conclusion, this was a perfect film and I would highly recommend watching if you like to have fun.

Ps. We also think this is a perfect watch for families with kids aged 7 and up (if you don't mind bras).

Pps. Haters have no soul.

What's Not To Love?
ShelovesE2221 March 2024
It's fun, funny, sweet and silly. What's not to love?

I'm sorry for those who are just not giving it a chance and are expecting Shakespeare and $500 million graphics budget (I don't think the graphics are bad at all, but I see others bemoaning). It's supposed to be silly and it does that perfectly. I love this film, have watched it twice now, and smile (and linger) every time I scroll over the Netflix active tile.

I see the lead actress is also the director and co-writer. I had never heard of her before, but she sure has made an impression on me now and I look forward to more from her. The comedy of this film clicks with me...I love goofy-sweet and it delivers very well. I think it's quite clever. Give it a chance.

Ya know...I had initially rated this an 8, but as I'm thinking, I realize I find myself playing the best parts through my mind from time to time and repeating funny lines (yes, to my cats....that's not crazy...it's not) and it makes me happy. Any film that can stick with you and move your emotions deserves a great rating.
