First 60-70 minutes were somewhat good, nothing great or memorable though. So was the twist. Unexpected but it still was a 6-ish/10 movie. Nothing impressive, from acting to directing etc.

And then, the movie took an interesting turn, it became not just watchable but recommendable. Most of the movies nowadays have mediocre or bad endings/final parts. The ending here is so good, it's touching, satisfying and almost mind blowing. The characters here are not ordinary people, the story is not the most plausible one, however the viewer is fully convinced about their motives, at least i did. In the end, everyone got what they deserved. Yes, the final twist is somewhat predictable but still, satisfying as hell. And the words of a person before, made me emotional.

A good psychological drama/thriller.

The subject matter is riveting and thought-provoking.

But still so many good drama movies have been made in the past. This is just a run-of-the-mill drama movie with psychological elements. The movie has an important message and the way the message is delivered is absolutely riveting.

I have seen plenty of drama movies in my life. I have seen psychological thriller movies like The Silence Of The Lambs, Copycat 1995, Bone Daddy 1998, The Bone Collector 1999, Seven 1995 among many others.

So does this movie deliver anything new compared to the ones I've mentioned. Yes and no. It questions morality and responsibility two important facets of society as a whole. Those expecting just a dark thriller or a straight-up serial killer movie will be disappointed. The movie isn't even based on a real-life serial killer like Bundy, Dahmer or Gacy.

Plot: The intense relationship between a psychotherapist(Sussane Hartmann played by actress Signe Egholm Olsen) and her dangerous new client(Mark Zidenius played by the actor Anton Hjejle). Soon Sussane will be drawn into Mark's deadly psychological game that he has pre-planned. Watch the movie to find out what happens in the end...

So this is more akin to a social drama will solid psychological elements woven into it. Does the film deserve an award, like so many people are clamoring for it? Let time tell...

It's not what they say it is

Warning: Spoilers
I stumbled upon this little thriller reading a marketing text with an interesting premise. A star psychologist receives an appointment of a serial killer. She only has time until the end of the scheduled session to heal him, or she will be his next victim.

This sounded very intriguing. Sadly the movie did not deliver on this premise. The moment the psychologist got scared and began screaming I knew there was something wrong. What I expected was a match of wits, clever dialogues and two sharp minds trying to outsmart each other. I only got half of what I expected. Don't get me wrong. This movie is quite smart and enjoyable, but it gets nowhere near the quality of Hannibal Lecter vs. Clarice Starling.

There is a final twist in the story which You will see coming from miles away. After the relationship of the killer and the psychologist is revealed, everything will start to get more and more obvious. You will know where all of this leads to way before the main protagonists realizes, what is going on.

I liked the way the actors portrayed their characters, although the script seemed to have left little room for them for interpretation. My major concern lies with the character of the psychologist. Her actions become more and more erratic as the story progresses. In the end she seems totally incapable of analytical behaviour and even loses her temper while talking to the police. I am afraid that too many viewers will think this happens, because she is a woman...

A positive surprise

This little gem made me feel stupid, which is a good thing.

What starts off as a by-the-numbers thriller about a killer who visits a shrink to get some kind of closure, turns into something completely different by the end with a plot twist I didn't see coming, although there were several hints given throughout the first hour.

I am not going to spoil things here, but the build-up is just spot on. Cleverly written. We need more movies likes this.

Wicked

No pun intended - when it comes to psychological stuff, there are always things to consider. And thrillers have to consider even more things - to make them work. Logically and internally and all that. Acting wise this is really good. I do wonder about the practice and how she ... or rather why she would conduct her business like that, but if she didn't we wouldn't have a movie ... and so many twists ahead of us.

I liked what this did and the low budget it has does not even - well it does not make much of a difference. The effects are good, the main location is the office obviously. And the script is tight - you can tell because of the dialog you hear. The actors are great in their respective roles. Watch it if you are into mysteries and thrillers that keep you guessing ... everything and anything goes ...

An Interesting Analysis
Pairic31 October 2022
The Last Client: Danish Nordic Noir. Susanne ( Signe Egholm Olsen) is a psychotherapist, her last client of the day Mark ( Anton Hjejle) seems, a little bit odd, paying the receptionist in advance in cash, notes and change. He is soon in control of the therapy session and shows just how murderous he is. She has to endure his game playing , knowing that her family may be at risk. We've already seen Mark at work, arriving at a victim's home dressed as a surgeon. Overpowering the woman he operates on her without anesthesia, removing a fetus which he places in a jar. (Not a spoiler, it's the opening sequence of the film.) This is not the only horrific scene in a film which is replete with disturbing sequences. The sound is very important, being followed on a cobbled street, a torn poster fluttering, someone thinking they heard a scream but dismissing it. There are some important plot twists which cannot be revealed here, perhaps one twist too many. The film is well worth watching though with great performances from Olsen and Hjejle, the tension is maintained throughout the 95 minute running time as the focus shifts from a clinic to woods. Directed & Co-Written by Anders Rønnow Klarlund. 8/10.

Brilliant but gruesome
lucienm-6032128 May 2023
I would have liked to give 7.5 It's a very good movie, extremely intense though.

Due to its intensity and twists, I can understand why some viewers rated it much lower.

It's heavy.

However, if you are in the mood for an extremely powerful psychological thriller, then this is a gem !

Important to state that if you are looking for an average thriller, then it's not for you.

This movie is very, very intense.

The ending is brilliant.

Casting is excellent !

Really brilliant actors.

Although some scenes are absolutely gruesome this movie's main focus is on the psychological confrontation between the two protagonists.

One of the best movies i've ever seen
starangwondah-576678 January 2023
Wow this movie is absolutely brilliant. A masterpiece and a definitive must watch. The acting was sooo good and authentic. The story was very very good. A must watch for every psychological thriller fans! I enjoyed every second of the movie. I think this film will be one of the most underrated of all time. You can compare its greatness to movies like Gone Girl or The Invisible Guest, though it didn't gain that much popularity. I love it and will recommend it to all my friends and loved ones. Such good movies are really rare in this time, what a pity. I can't remember to see anything great like this in the last 5 years.

My instant pick to watch tagged as an underdog turned out to be a monster,A brilliant piece of cinema in every aspect... Be it a hour glass session, luxurious office space or an finest atmospheric conditions in climax one could crave for a perfect cinema elements.... Take a bow for Anders klarlund for keeping u strangled for nearly 1 1/2 hrs tight session with his twisty screenplay that makes u subliminally guilt and shrink u with a crystal clear screenplay... Signe Olsen and Anton duo strikes instantly with their weird and methodical performance...can't review for more coz this movie speaks a lot to connect u when u watch it making u to crave for more cinema to experience....

Best plot I've seen in a while
bmcassagne27 July 2023
Great plot twists. Very intelligent. Everything plausible. Things very hard to find in a movie these days. I'm not a psychologist but I felt like the way the therapy session developed had a very authentic feel but at the same time was exciting and interesting. It's a stark contrast with the average movie today that appears to target a 14 yr old audience.

People say that it's very gruesome and it does have some parts but much less than other movies, and it's only a few short scenes.

I don't usually like thrillers but it's because most are garbage and have huge flaws. Thrillers like this I could watch on a regular basis. The ending in particular was very good but there wasn't really a dull moment.

Standing ovation

Warning: Spoilers
The international title (and cinema poster) is rather generic and expected. In any case it doesn't do this extraordinary mystery thriller any justice ! This one deserves better and should also have a bigger audience. Why? Well, it delivers on all levels in case wanna experience an intelligent, disturbing, twisted and suspenseful psycho thriller. In a sea of wannabes this one stands out on so many levels. Great acting: convincing & raw. The plot: one of the best ones I've seen in a long time. The motive: reasonable. The solution: unpleasant but adequate. And not to forget the final twist: absolutely unexpected. If it would have been made in Hollywood with an A list actress/actor it could have become an instant classic.
