House on Haunted Hill (1999) – The Test of Time
Image
From one 1999 horror remake to another. After rewatching The Haunting with eyes that were both more critical and 25 years older, it got me thinking about the other remake that came out that year. One that was a remake of a far sillier movie and that was the first effort from a new studio, namely Dark Castle Entertainment. The original was from a far less dark castle in that of schlock and gimmick purveyor William Castle and it starred Vincent Price as a man offering strangers money to stay in an allegedly haunted house for a night. While The Haunting failed on multiple levels to improve with age, how does House on Haunted Hill (watch it Here) look after a quarter of a century? Does its cheesy yet graphic tone feel at home in the time of A24 and elevated horror or should it forfeit its 1 million dollar check and leave the cursed grounds forever.

Zack Snyder Explains Strange Reason Batman v Superman was Almost R-rated
Image
Zack Snyder revealed Batman v Superman almost got an R-rating due to Batman fighting Superman, a strange reason from the ratings board. Snyder believes his director's cut of Batman v Superman is much better, showcasing the impact of different edits on a film. James Gunn's DC Universe embraces R-rated content with Creature Commandos, acknowledging the success of darker superhero projects.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice came very close to being an R-rated theatrical release according to Zack Snyder. It is now eight years since Snyder’s second movie really kicked off his grand plan for the Dceu following Man of Steel three years earlier. Even now, the director is still answering questions about the movie, and his time leading the DC franchise for Warner Bros. Pictures. In a new interview, Snyder explained how the Motion Picture Association of America almost slapped an R-rating on the movie for a very strange reason.

Late Phases (2014) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Image
Zombie movies? Can’t shake a stick without knocking a minimum of 20 quality ones out of a tree. You want vampires? Tell me the decade and the type and I’ll give you recommendations to keep you going for weeks. Werewolves? Well, for some reason, the werewolf falls in with his other Universal monster counterparts The Mummy, Frankenstein, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon as creatures that should have a lot more entries come to mind. I’m not saying that there aren’t any, quite the contrary. I can tell you quite a few must-see werewolf movies that you all probably know but the list is not nearly as deep as the other monsters mentioned above. Late Phases (watch it Here), also known under the stupidly generic title of Night of the Wolf, does a lot of interesting things while being a thoroughly enjoyable and almost arthouse movie...

Gyeongseong Creature Season 2’s Story Is Good News For Fans Of Park Seo-joon
Image
Park Seo-joon will play a new character named Ho-jae in Gyeongseong Creature season 2, although this character could still be Tae-sang. The new season will get to explore a different version of the main couple's relationship. Gyeongseong Creature season 2 will be a new beginning for the K-drama, now set in the present day.

Gyeongseong Creature season 2’s story means Park Seo-joon will get to showcase his acting chops in what could be one of the best

sequels to a historical K-drama. The Netflix 2024 K-drama slate update included a brand new look at Gyeongseong Creature 2, which will be set in 2024 rather than during World War II. Despite the new setting, the two lead Gyeogseong Creature actors will return in the new season, although it is still difficult to say whether they are both reprising their original roles.

The list of Park Seo-Joon K-dramas and movies includes highly successful projects, which set the...

Lisa Frankenstein's Diablo Cody & Zelda Williams Talk Teen Horror
Image
Lisa Frankenstein is a lot of things all at once, melding teenage shenanigans with a grisly tale of the undead. It's a twisted take on a classic high school-centric story, focusing on Lisa (Kathryn Newton). Lisa is a quiet young woman trying to adjust to a new perky stepsister named Taffy (Liza Soberano) after her father remarries following the death of her mother. But the reanimated Creature (played by Riverdale alum Cole Sprouse) shakes up her life and helps teach her how to live again -- even as their escapades develop an ever-increasing body count.

The film being as funny, sweet, and unique as it is comes largely down to the talent in front of and behind the camera -- including one of Hollywood's most prominent writers of the teenage experience. During an interview with Cbr, Lisa Frankenstein director Zelda Williams and writer Diablo Cody discussed the tonal balancing act for the film.

Gyeongseong Creature Season 2's Announcement Confirms It Will Be A Completely Different Show
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Gyeongseong Creature season 1.

Gyeongseong Creature season 2 will take place in 2024 Seoul, introducing a new modern-day setting for the show's story. Park Seo-jun and Han So-hee will return, leading to theories about descendants or reincarnations of their original characters, Tae-sang and Chae-ok, in Gyeongseong Creature season 2. The shift to a modern setting and the potential return of the original characters offer a fresh take on the show, reinventing it while retaining the essence of the first season's love story.

Netflix has renewed Gyeongseong Creature for season 2, but the show will be very different once it returns following season 1’s post-credits scene. Just four days after the final three episodes of season 1 premiered, the Netflix Korean show has secured a second season. Park Seo-joon’s Character In Gyeongseong Creature’s Post-Credits Scene Explained: Who Is Ho-jae?
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Gyeongseong Creature Part 2.

Tae-sang is likely the one who drank the contaminated water and is now infected. Park Seo-joon's appearance as "Ho-jae" in the modern-day scene suggests a potential season 2 set in present-day Seoul. Tae-sang may still be alive and young in the present day, potentially due to his transformation into a monster.

Park Seo-joon, who plays Tae-sang in Gyeongseong Creature, appears in season 1’s post-credits scene in a moment with major implications for both his character and the show as a whole. Gyeongseong Creature’s cast of characters centers around Tae-sang and Chae-ok, with the show following their love story unfolding amidst an intense investigation tied to human experiments and monsters. Similar to other Netflix Korean shows, Gyeongseong Creature was split into two segments, the latter of which included a massive plot twist.

Gyeongseong Creature Season 2 Is Now Inevitable After That Tae-sang Cliffhanger
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Gyeongseong Creature Part 2.

The cliffhanger ending of Gyeongseong Creature season 1 indicates that a second season is needed. The post-credits scene reveals a character resembling Tae-sang in the present day, leaving their identity open for interpretation. Season 2 would have to be different from season 1, taking place in modern-day Seoul and potentially exploring immortality.

Gyeongseong Creature season 2 has not been confirmed as of the writing of this article, but season 1’s shocking cliffhanger means the show cannot be over yet. Whereas some of Netflix’s best Korean shows only lasted one season, others like Sweet Home or Squid Game received follow-ups. Gyeongseong Creature’s first season was split into two parts, with the final three episodes concluding the main story while also leaving the door open for the series to return.

Gyeongseong Creature's ending saw the destruction of the Ongseong Hospital, which could have been the perfect finale for the show.

The Best Horror and Thriller K-Dramas of 2023
Image
Gone are the days when K-dramas almost exclusively meant love stories, period pieces and family dramas. Today, South Korea produces some of the most chilling and outrageously violent TV shows you’ll ever see—while also continuing to release the more traditional, wholesome fare that longtime K-drama fans fell in love with years ago.

The diversification of genres in recent years can largely be attributed to the rise of global streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney+. In the past, most K-dramas were aired on broadcast TV, which comes with certain guidelines around what can and cannot be shown. By contrast, streamers aren’t bound by such rules around content.

The result? More extreme and graphic K-dramas, with Korean original series on Ott services like Netflix, often featuring plenty of gore and violence, and sometimes some sex and nudity as well. This year saw a host of Korean thrillers and horror series,...

Guillermo del Toro's next horror movie, an adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, is one of his most anticipated projects, bringing him closer to covering all classic horror monsters. Del Toro has already covered three classic monsters in his previous films: vampires in Cronos and the Creature from the Black Lagoon in The Shape of Water. After Frankenstein, Del Toro only needs to cover werewolves, mummies, and the invisible man to achieve the goal of covering all the classic monsters, offering his own unique interpretations.

Guillermo del Toro’s next horror movie is not only one of his most anticipated projects, but it’s also bringing him a step closer to a classic horror milestone. Guillermo del Toro has become one of the modern masters of horrors thanks to his dark fairy tales with good doses of horror. Del Toro’s filmography so far is a combination of original...

The vignettes that open I Slay on Christmas, the new anthology film from producer Phil Herman, are almost hallucinogenic in their disassociated content and styles. A man runs through the woods only to find his adversary, a pine cone, floating in the air ahead of him as a voice intones his fate. Another man sits on a couch as the weatherman talks about unseasonably warm weather and how it’s helping a virus to spread. When we see him again, he’s bleeding from the nose and mouth and looks like a zombie.

‘Creature’ Review: Netflix Turkish Series Is A Dramatic Old Tale That Fails To Make An Impression
Image
Mary Shelley’s horror gothic fiction, Frankenstein, has been adapted several times in both literature and cinema. Over these years, the good old tale of humanity’s quest for supreme greatness turning into its misfortune has been presented in many forms and stories. Netflix’s Turkish drama Creature is the latest addition to the mythos. While the Turkish drama is a decent adaptation of the classic gothic series, it plays a more dramatic card, trying to make us extra sentimental. But the effect is the opposite, and as the show progresses, it comes across as repetitive and somewhat boring. Unfortunately, more than anything, it’s the first episode that really fails the show, making it out to be some sort of dramatic horror epic but later turning into a story for children. The first episode is dark and dreary, making for a non-compelling beginning to the series that follows.
