Same recipe, doesn't taste as good
AfricanBro15 February 2022
I feel like I watched this only 'cause I like ali wong because it's not as funny as her first two Netflix specials. This felt more like a rant about equality than stand up which made it more predictable because it's all arguments we've heard before, just coupled with a couple punchlines instead so I did still have a few laughs. Same way I wouldn't want to to hear a rant about women for an hour is the same way I wouldn't be excited to hear one against men. And some of her jokes felt like recycled, rephrased lines from her previous two, where she'll talk crap about her husband or being a breadwinner and then talk about why she loves him in the end. It was funny the first time, the second, not so much.

I liked ali wong because even if she joked about men or did explicit jokes, it was well thought of and actually funny while this was just stereotypical cheap shots at men or how good being single with no kids is. There were hints of her brilliance but too few, you might enjoy this if you don't like or annoyed by men and want to relate, but not because it's funny, unlike her first two which really were. I don't think it's bad enough to warranty all the 1 or 2 star ratings, but watching this just made me wish Netflix gave the chance for a full special to Adrienne Lapalucci from "the degenerates" (on Netflix too) because they're not a lot of women who do that kind of comedy so it was nice to see, for me at least as a dark comedy fan.

Don't know what the reviews are about on here.

I'm a white British male (same age as Ali Wong) and watched this with my wife - found it utterly hilarious.

Very smutty and funny.

Really enjoyed.

I couldn't stop watching!

Ali is a gifted comedy writer! Initially, her comedy seems to be low brow only, but as she continues, her jokes add up to a delightful and vulnerable treat. I must say I also feel a bit better about being single, but maybe not?! Gotta watch and decide!

Not Monty Python's Funny Walk

About halfway through Ali, started making colonoscopy jokes, and actually got a laugh out of me. Then I realized what was so off putting about her performance. She walks around stage is like the colonoscopy camera remained. Awkward!

Loved it!

Gosh! This special was just *Muah*! I don't think I've laughed this hard in quite a while. Every punch line had me and all the dirty little details had me giggle and shriek like a teenager. Watched this with a bunch of girl friends, we all laughed and agreed with everything she said!

I laughed out loud throughout and I rarely do that. This woman is so funny. The only people leaving bad reviews are men who have never self reflected in their lives. It's sad because she doesn't say anything untrue throughout the special. It's just as good, if not better, than her previous specials. Ali always delivers.

I wanted to like it

Warning: Spoilers
As an Asian woman myself, I wanted to enjoy the show. However, I find it energy draining to watch it. It's just the very one-dimensional joke around men/women/sex jokes dragged on for too long. I had to stop mid-way.

She is so funny! Her facial expressions were hilarious and loved the script. I absolutely love her. There was many things that was actually true and funny at the same time. Hope Karens didn't get too offended.

One note
shanayneigh28 February 2022
I really liked her previous specials. There's no doubt she can be hilarious. But the jokes in this third special were pretty one note, circling around a single theme. Also, her droning on about how she's the breadwinner and her husband is living the luxury wife lifestyle is becoming a bit repetitive. What else have you got?

Late to the Ali party
pm-9800216 February 2022
Late to the Ali party but I'm glad I made it. First 15 minutes were average. The final 45 were hysterically funny. I could not stop laughing. This is that "cringe comedy" is meant to be: HELLA FUNNY.

New fan here!!

Ali Wong is on Fire
tkdlifemagazine14 February 2022
Ali Wong is back after having a baby and having done a Netflix movie and she is on fire. You might think success and popularity curbed her venom but it did not. She is hysterical and raw. This is not for the skiddish or the prude. Her look at relationships, gender norms, and social matters is all her own and I was actually crying at parts. The addition of her motherhood and marriage stories are priceless. This is as good, or maybe better, than her prior specials, and they were really original and good. Ali Wong is fearless. The crazy stuff she says in this special only she could get away with and still be amazingly lovable. Check this one out and then check it out again.

The old one is much better
emma-2257514 February 2022
Can be summarized by the following:
  • 50% men can't do anything right. Women are superior to men in every way imaginable, sexually, financially, physically etc. You name it.

  • 40% of the show is her describing her privates and s** in unnecessary explicit ways that really don't add to the comedic effect.

  • 8% about how she wishes she could cheat on her husband
  • 2% actually funny jokes

Name me one female comedian that doesnt focus on these areas. The only reason I liked her was because she didnt play into that stereotype and was actually funny without resorting those desperate cheap tricks.

Being a woman I personally don't find it funny to look down on men. I see men and women as equal in value plus it's just SO redundant for the past 15 years. But maybe that's some people's thing which is fine because it's comedy so anything goes. Just prepare yourself for less than what you expected before watching.

still funny with fresh material
powerfoot16 February 2022
I love her, her comedy of truths resonate with me. I really enjoyed this one and lol throughout. She gets raw and real in a few areas and and that's why it's funny bc there's truth behind it.

If you can't handle the truth then ali wong isn't for you.

Ooff why did netflix bother me to watch this so much??
Reenoeh15 February 2022
It's explicit - but mild comedy wise.. I've never watched one of her shows but heard all the jokes atleast once and they are just not very funny anymore. - Women are always right and bossy. Men want sex and I don't like them but tolerate them. I am rich and like semen. Cool cool cool and? Somebody else said it's like comedy from the 90s and I agree. She's good at delivery the material just fell flat.

My partner and I were laughing hysterically throughout. Amazing as always. Better than the last special and just as good as I remember her first special being.

She is just sooo good.

The last ten minutes are worth the price of admission. Though she always says just what I'm thinking and has me rolling. I could have watched a few more hours.

Watch if you are married and need a Valentines Day laugh.

I love Ali, but this didn't do it for me.

I watched it because I like her, but I didn't laugh once.

Maybe, it was just a bad night for her, and the next specials will get better.

I like Ali, but this was bad
adamdanielgrey26 February 2022
I couldn't make it through the special. I loved her other specials, but this was a bad set. Neither my wife or I laughed one time and we could only make it half way through. Now that she is rich and famous she tells jokes which aren't very relatable or make very much sense. Going down on you is a privilege since you are famous is somehow suppose to be funny? Her cadence has also gone way too extreme. She seems like she is a playing a character of herself. From the screaming, crouching to the voice she makes pulling her face back she has a cartoonish stage presence.

She makes it relatable & hilarious if you're 27 and older
x-nikki-xx27 April 2023
I actually am on the other boat compared to most reviewers here. I didn't find Ali that funny in her first two specials. I watched them with friends. I thought she was always a bit too crass and vulgar for my taste in comedy. She still is brazen and vulgar but, for some reason her content for Don Wong was a lot more relatable. A part of it is me knowing her style is comedy So i want shocked by anything. The sex parts always make me slightly uncomfortable but that's just me. I find her delivery and floor hilarious and natural. She's a great storyteller and honestly most of her set she's either complaining or sharing her inner thoughts but making it absolutely hilarious. I have seen a pattern of older couples enjoying the set more in the reviews. If you're young and single, you might not enjoy this one as much. If you're older and have been in a long term relationship, you'll cringe but will understand all the things she's saying. Yes, she takes it to the extreme but at least it's entertaining!

Great show, if you enjoy below the belt comedy and nothing else...
paul_haakonsen15 February 2022
I sat down to watch the 2022 Netflix stand-up special titled "Ali Wong: Don Wong" by stand-up comedian Ali Wong. I have seen a single or two of her previous shows, but I can't claim to have been much of a fan really. So I wasn't really harboring much of any expectations to this 2022 show.

And not even five minutes into the foray, I was on the verge of shutting it off to go watch something else. But I opted to stick with it and rode it out to the very end. So why was I about to call it quits? Well, it was painfully obvious that this would be an hour of crude genital and sex comedy. So it was very much something straight out of the 1990s, and that type of comedy has been done and seen to the point of it being redundant and having lost most of its appeal.

So needless to say that most of this one hour comedy special was hard to sit through given the fact that Ali Wong was essentially just spewing sex jokes. Obviously there is an audience out there for that kind of comedy, as you can see in the audience. However, I prefer a bit more mature type of comedy, so I wasn't overly enjoying this 2022 comedy special.

Sure, I will say that Ali Wong does have a great on-stage chemistry and has a very powerful presence. She is good at staging her jokes and delivering the punchlines, no doubt about that. But the contents of the show's material just fell sort of short of finding appeal with me.

My rating of "Ali Wong: Don Wong" lands on a four out of ten stars. It would have ranked much higher if the contents had been of a more mature level and sat above the belt.

Ali Wong was exposed.
TerribleMovie22 February 2022
Ali Wong used the crutch of being pregnant for 2 specials. This special was her chance to show what she's really got as a comedian. EPIC FAIL. She showed us she's nothing more than your run-of-the-mill gross out humor comedian disguising her lame jokes as feminism. It was straight from the Amy Schumer playbook. I was rooting for her to be a comedian with some depth in her jokes. Nope. Ali Wong was exposed as mediocre at best.

I was hoping for comedy, but found very little to laugh with.
mitchandcary14 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'll break this down in percentages. It's: 15% humor, 55% gynocentric man-bashing, and 30% stale, painfully trite stereotype regeneration.

I love well-crafted humor and smartly delivered jokes, but this delivers an unenjoyable, whiny vendetta, with the occasional funny punch line. However, the majority of the punches consist of recycled, slapstick crotch-kicks. The entire 59 minutes comes across as anger wrapped in sarcasm.

Andrew Dice Clay, Rodney Dangerfield, Jim Jefferies, et al, garnered fame (and quite a bit of protest) for their outwardly misogynistic jokes, but at least the jokes contained some self-deprecation, albeit some of it tongue-in-cheek, but inevitably - a nod of respect along with the humor.

Perhaps this is nothing more than a cathartic release for a mainly female audience. Perhaps I've lost my tolerance for man-bashing, and ferocity parading as feminism. Either way, this one was painful to watch.

By taking such sweeping, broad-stroke pokes at inequality and difference, it does nothing more than painfully highlight and widen the divide between the sexes.

On a positive note, Ali's deliveries and tension-builders are impeccable. However, I found the humor somewhat predictable and stale.

No new material
hp-3372928 February 2022
I watched Ali's earlier standup specials and enjoyed them a lot, I thought she was original and showed real potential. This one is a gigantic miss though. She doesn't seem to have any new material at all, there isn't a single fresh thought in there, she's just repeating the exact same jokes from the previous shows, but for some reason, in more graphic detail, and they are dragging on way too long. Maybe because I'm not American I can't understand the cultural significance of her being nasty, but for me it does nothing. I'm not prude, it's just pointless. I'm hoping that it's some kind of female empowerment thing, otherwise I can only assume that she's doing it for shock value in a desperate attempt for attention. I sense it's a mix of both, as she really has nothing much to say.

Used to be Funny
amelavfit20 February 2022
I was so excited to watch this on Netflix because I truly loved Ali's other specials. As soon as it started, I was turned off. Nothing but unnecessary attacks on men, over-sexualizing jokes to the point of no return and it was truly just garbage. She dragged on and on at the beginning about how women are better than men in every possible way and that men should kiss women's feet BLAH BLAH BLAH all while still mimicking s*cking a d**k. It was disgusting and honestly, not funny at all. She's lost a fan.
