Featured review
a hilarious joke
This movie is based on a joke, which I will not tell--no spoiler here. But in getting to the punch line, the director grabs your attention with every scene, and the score (klezmer) carries you along on a total joy ride. It's in black and white (which is good, because the plot has to do with the color of a suit). It mostly has intertitles, like an old silent movie. The director immerses you in the old-timey streets of Brooklyn, where you are likely to see all sorts of odd characters on the same block: priests, rabbinical students, nuns, and traditional Muslim women in black. The clash of cultures leads to comedy. Excellent production values, vivid photography. Congratulations to the director on creating a small masterpiece.
