- Max helps Pete design an RV. Max plans to win Pete's affections so that he could hang out with Pete's son P.J. An unforeseen turn of events occurs when Max actually becomes good friends with Pete and forgets about P.J.
- Max is helping his dad fix the garage door opener, but when they test it, it predictably falls on Goofy. P.J. shows up and Max drags him off to go skateboarding. Max says his dad's a klutz when it comes to anything mechanical, but P.J. says that at least he lets him help - when Pete's working, he doesn't want to be bothered.
They see Pete working at his used-car lot. Max suggests they go bum a soda from him, but P.J. nixes the idea, saying he's definitely working, as he's wearing his sales glasses. Max wanders onto the lot anyway and helps Pete close a sale by hyping up a car. Pete rewards Max with a soda while chiding P.J. for not helping him that way. Pete asks Max to come over later that night to help him with his Pete-mobile, which P.J. says is a top secret recreational vehicle that he's working on.
Pete shows Max the RV, saying he's entering it in the big show in Las Vegas. Max suggests adding a satellite dish. Pete agrees, saying that Max reminds him of himself. With Max's help, Pete outfits the RV with various components taken from Pete's house. Max also enlists P.J.'s help to get Goofy's garage door.
With the RV complete, Pete unveils it to everyone, and they head off to Las Vegas. During the trip, Pete gives Max his sales glasses in appreciation for his work in getting the RV ready. As the gang tries out the different functions in the RV, however, they malfunction, causing the trailer where Goofy is using the hot tub to separate from the rest of the RV and the sofa where Peg and Pistol are sitting to swing out in the middle of oncoming traffic.
At a rest stop, Peg and Goofy give Pete an earful while a dejected P.J. goes off by himself, sitting on a nearby picnic table. Max asks P.J. to take a picture of him and the RV. P.J. tells Max to take the picture himself, saying if Max wants to be the son in the family he'll just move out.
As P.J. mopes, he throws a stick, which hits Goofy. P.J. apologizes, then asks Goofy if he looks dumb to him. Goofy says no, saying a chestnut is dumb. It looks ugly on the outside, but eventually the shell falls off and what's left is "chock full of good stuff." P.J.'s mood improves.
Meanwhile, two hoodlums try to pick the RV's locks, but Max catches them and tries a sales pitch on them. When he lets them in, however, they take off with him in it. Max yells for P.J., who immediately tells his dad about the RV. Pete commandeers a tow truck, which is unable to keep up with the RV, but Goofy, driving a sports car that the truck is towing, uses it to catch up. One of the thieves throws a pocketknife, which slashes one of the tires just as the car gets close to the RV. P.J., who is riding with Goofy, uses the opportunity to jump from the hood of the car to the ladder on the back of the RV.
P.J. makes his way into the RV and rescues Max. Using some chestnuts that he picked up while at the rest stop, P.J. activates the components in the RV that are malfunctioning, which subdues and eventually ejects the thieves. The boys try to control the RV, but the pedals fall off and the hand brake snaps when they try to use it. They end up driving the RV full speed into Las Vegas and the RV show, where they crash.
Pete threatens to "simonize" Max, but when he gets to the kids, he hears P.J. telling the judges about the RV. To both Pete's and P.J.'s surprise, the judges wholeheartedly agree and give P.J. the award for best design.
Pete showers P.J. with compliments, taking the sales glasses from Max and giving it to his son. Max asks his dad about the chestnuts, and both Goofy and P.J. laugh in response.
