When it came out back in March 2024, Parish was expected to leave that indelible mark on its audiences worldwide as it played along the themes of drama set deep in the world of crime fiction thriller. Developed by Danny Brocklehurst and aired on AMC, it had that gripping plot that held the potential to capture viewers’ attention in its talons.
Set in a world of crime and horrors, the series encompassed the story of Gray Parish (played by Giancarlo Esposito), a good man but not one without a troubled past, who gives up his life of crime to become a family man. But when his son is violently murdered, old habits tend to return, sending Gray on a relentless quest with moral discretion but dangerous consequences.

The last couple of years have really ramped up in AI capability and debate. It even became one of the biggest issues that the artists fought for when the writers and actors held union strikes when Hollywood studios started to implement more of the technology to cut certain corners. People all over social media would blow up at Disney for attempting to slip by some rather synthetic-looking extras for a basketball scene in a Disney+ movie titled Prom Pact. Even films like Civil War and Late Night with the Devil, which have been shown admiration and support from audiences for the filmmakers’ ingenuity with their creative visions, came under fire for using AI technology for producing images.

VFX artists criticize flaws in the AI background actors in Prom Pact, questioning the need for digital doubles and suggesting a cover-up. George Clooney may not be Batman anymore (although he technically was again once more this past year), but he will try to come to the rescue with some A-list friends in an effort to end the strike that continues to march on for SAG-AFTRA. The writers’ guild has settled with the studios since their strike started earlier in May, and many thought this meant the last shoe would also drop with the actors’ guild. This would unfortunately not be the case as the Screen Actors’ Guild failed to reach an agreement with the AMPTP after weeks of negotiations.
Variety reports that Clooney and fellow A-list actors, including Scarlett Johansson and Ben Affleck, have conceived of a proposal that they submitted to the union in hopes that it could lead to an end to the strike. When the rom-com Prom Pact arrived on Disney platforms in late March, it debuted to positive reviews and the modest level of fanfare one would expect for a TV film aimed at teenagers. But seven months later, it has gone viral for all the wrong reasons.
On Thursday, a clip from the film’s opening pep rally scene circulated on X, formerly known as Twitter. In a blink and you’ll miss it moment, unrealistic looking digital humans cheer in the bleachers alongside real background actors. The clip has been widely shared (and widely mocked).
It has also struck a chord amid the SAG-AFTRA strike that has shut down Hollywood and in which one of the key issues is the worry that an actor’s likeness could be re-created digitally without adequate procurement of consent and compensation. Earlier this year, Disney released Prom Pact on Disney+ and audiences quickly noticed the inclusion of some very creepy digital extras that look like Sims characters. Flash forward a few months, and SAG-AFTRA has gone on strike, with one of their biggest beefs having to do with studios taking digital scans of actors to use however they see fit until the end of time.

Criticism against the use of digital actors has increased against Disney as one particularly noticeable example has gone viral on social media.
Earlier this year, Disney+ debuted the teen comedy Prom Pact, a film about one student making a deal to attend her school's prom with a popular jock in order to secure her enrollment at Harvard. While the film was well-received overall, scoring high viewership and mostly positive reviews, some viewers have since noticed something off about the extras. Many had noticed this shortly after the film arrived in March, though it's now going viral online as the SAG-AFTRA strike negotiations continue to stall. One particular clip takes a closer look at the audience at a basketball game, with the complete lack of emotion giving away Disney's use of digitally-created extras. This has led to renewed criticism against Disney.

This Disney+ Movie With AI Actors Is Horrendous, & Exactly What Striking Actors Are Fighting Against

The Disney+ movie Prom Pact is facing criticism for using AI actors that look horrendous, which is exactly what striking actors are trying to prevent. A Tweet calls out Disney CEO Bob Iger for using digital scans of actors instead of paying them fair wages. Negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP have collapsed, with the industry CEOs walking away from the bargaining table due to the significant gap between the two parties on important issues like protection against AI.

Brec Bassinger doesn’t believe in coincidences. So, it’s downright serendipitous that the Stargirl star finds herself cast as the lead in Lifetime’s new limited series, V.C. Andrews Dawn. “It was a very full circle moment,” she said of starring in the show. “The first time I ever went to L.A., back in 2013, I was 13 years old. I actually auditioned for the original Flowers in the Attic, the 2014 version of it. I went pretty far and met with the directors. When I auditioned for this, I was very familiar with it and V.C. Andrews' work.”
The four-part limited series tracks the story of Dawn Longchamp (Bassinger), who discovers a shocking truth about the people who raised her. Suddenly, she’s thrust into a new family whose dark secrets put her life into a tailspin. Starring alongside Bassinger is Jesse Metcalf and Khobe Clarke, who play her “father” and “brother,...

"Prom Pact", directed by Anya Adams, is described as "a charming, romantic comedy that captures the emotional rollercoaster"of high school prom season, streaming May 4, 2023 on Freeform:
"...it's the height of prom season, and high school senior 'Mandy Yang' and her best friend and fellow outsider 'Ben' are surrounded by over-the-top '80s-themed 'promposals'. However, Mandy keeps her eyes focused on a different goal: her lifelong dream of attending Harvard.
"When she finds out that she has been put on the waitlist, she is determined to do whatever she can do to get herself accepted, even if that means asking for help from the one person she abhors - popular all-star jock 'Graham Lansing' (Draper), whose father is a powerful senator and Harvard alum.
"Once Mandy becomes Graham's tutor, she begins to realize there's more to him than she thought and perhaps something more to life than Harvard.

Americans, by and large, still love Adam Sandler. The Sandman’s latest Netflix flick, “Murder Mystery 2,” topped Whip Media’s movie ranker, which looks at the most-streamed movies in the U.S. Friday through Sunday using viewership data from TV Time, its TV and movie tracking app with more than 25 million global registered users.
The sequel to 2019’s “Murder Mystery” saw Sandler join up again with Jennifer Aniston — both reprising their roles as Nick and Audrey Spitz. This time around, they’re private detectives on the hunt for a friend who has been abducted in France. Of course, that means Sandler and Aniston get to travel to some of the most iconic spots in Paris, including the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower, as their characters are hot on the case.
The first “Murder Mystery” got a nice boost from the sequel’s release, finishing the weekend as the third most-streamed movie.

Harry Styles was under consideration to play Prince Eric in the forthcoming live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, director Rob Marshall has said.
The Disney revival stars Halle Bailey in the titular role while relative newcomer Jonah Hauer-King will play her prince.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marshall said that Styles turned the role down to focus on “darker” material.
“We met with him. He was lovely. What a wonderful guy,” the director said of Styles. “But at the end of the day, he really felt like he wanted to go off and do the movies that he ended up doing, which were sort of darker.
“For a lot of young musical people like Harry, you’re trying to carve your way and you don’t wanna be seen as a singer, necessarily,” Marshall added.

Disney Plus viewers notice ‘horrible CGI’ in new movie Prom Pact: ‘They look like Sims 2 characters’

A glaring mistake in Disney Plus’s new film Prom Pact has left viewers “horrified”.
The streamer’s latest movie stars Peyton Elizabeth Lee as high school senior Mandy Yang. In the film, Mandy’s desperation to get off Harvard University’s waitlist forces her to befriend all-star jock Graham Lansing (Blake Draper), whose powerful father is a Harvard alum.
In the opening sequence, Mandy is seen digging through the school’s lost and found while the rest of the student body are in the gym attending a pep rally.
For a brief moment, as the camera pans to the students in the gym’s bleachers, a row of expressionless CGI characters can be spotted robotically clapping along behind a row of basketball players.
“Why are [there] AI people in Prom Pact?” someone asked in a viral tweet, alongside a screenshot of the scene.

At a certain point in the beginning of Prom Pact, Ben (Milo Manheim) wonders if he’s wasting precious time by judging other people’s high school experience while standing on the sidelines. That’s a pretty powerful statement and even daunting thing to realize, immediately setting the Disney+ original comedy apart from several others. It may not look like it, but the movie has a tough job: Encouraging kids to have as much fun as possible in high school while also acknowledging that it can be a harrowing experience for many people. Fortunately, Prom Pact does this gracefully.

Few events loom larger in the minds of movie teenagers than prom. Dreams are realized, bullies are put in their place, girls are declared “all that.” Real life is rarely as dramatic, thankfully, but that doesn’t mean we should expect studios (and streamers) to stop trying to make the next “Pretty in Pink” or “10 Things I Hate About You” anytime soon. Disney offer a fresh take on teendom’s big night with “Prom Pact,” in which two platonic best friends who are more comfortable on the outside looking in decide to finally step into the fray of high school life.
Mandy Yang (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) first appears in a Ruth Bader Ginsburg T-shirt, obsessively refreshing her Harvard application in the hopes that it’s gone from “pending” to “accepted” while trying to avoid the pep rally where North Seattle High will officially announce its prom theme: the ‘80s.

Disney’s upcoming feature Prom Pact is set to bring back the 80s in style. The movie follows best friends Mandy and Ben, two high schoolers who'd rather focus on anything other than prom, but fate has different plans for them. Directed by Anya Adams the feature looks colorful, fresh, and fun with a period touch to the romantic comedy genre. In a new featurette, the cast and crew talk about adding the nostalgic touch and easter eggs to the contemporary story.
