All hell breaks loose when a Muslim man breaks a temple lock to save a little child, thus for his safety keeps a Hindu name, where he starts making web of lies.

When a child falls into the well of the temple and Abbas breaks the temple's lock to save the child. When Prithviraj arrives at the scene, Ravi says Abbas's name as Abhishek Bachchan to avoid religious controversies of a temple being broken open by a Muslim. Prithviraj hires Abhishek Bachchan (Abbas) and is happy with his work, but Ravi and his friends have to come up with a new plan when Prithviraj spots Abbas celebrating Eid as a Muslim. Abbas and the others convince Prithviraj that the one celebrating Eid was actually 'Abbas', an effeminate man and classical Kathak dancer. Things become worse for Abbas and Ravi when Prithviraj kindly hires Abbas for teaching Kathak to his sister Radhika (Prachi Desai). The more Abbas tries to manage his dual life without letting Prithviraj know, the more he has to lie to cover up other lies; this forms the crux of the story.

Abbas Ali (Abhishek Bachchan) lives in Chandni Chowk with his sister Sania (Asin Thottumkal). Sania is a theatre art director who is trying put a play together. Their ancestral property is taken from them by deception by their relatives. Abbas had sold his taxi to pay for the court cases and was driving the same taxi on rent to pay for daily expenses. After he loses the court case due to the incompetence of his lawyer, Abbas is livid and beats up the lawyer inside court premises. He is arrested and bailed out by Shastri. Abbas also loses his job as the owner of the taxi says that now Abbas is a convicted criminal. Their family friend, Shastri (Asrani), convinces them to move to his village, Ranakpur, where he assures Abbas that he will get him a job at his boss, Prithviraj Raghuvanshi's (Ajay Devgn), place.

Prithviraj is a powerful but kind man who hates lies and liars and punishes them harshly. Prithviraj has 2 hobbies wrestling and trying to speak proper English. Vikrant (Jeetu Verma) is Prithviraj's cousin brother, who is constantly putting obstacles in his way to set up a power project in the village, which will benefit the whole village immensely. Prithviraj hates people who lie to him. Once he brutally thrashes an employee who made a mistake of Rs 99 in his annual expense report. Abbas and Sania arrive at Ranakpur and meet Abbas's friend Ravi (Krishna Abhishek), Shastri's son, who runs a drama company with his friends. Ravi invites Sania to join his drama company as art director. Abbas learns that there is a temple at the border of Ranakpur and Kherwada, the village where Prithviraj's cousin Vikrant Raghuvanshi is powerful. The two cousins are archenemies. The temple, being at the border of the two villages, was disputed and has been locked for years.

A child falls into the well of the temple and Abbas breaks the temple's lock to save the child. Abbas is attacked by Vikrant and his goons. Prithviraj arrives at the scene and saves Abbas. Prithvi forces Vikrant to retreat and Abbas is hailed as a hero for opening up the temple gates.

Ravi says Abbas's name as Abhishek Bachchan to avoid religious controversies of a temple being broken open by a Muslim. Prithviraj hires Abhishek Bachchan (Abbas) (with an awesome salary of Rs 35,000 per month) as supervisor (as the previous supervisor was fired for corruption) and is happy with his work. Abhishek/Abbas is not able to leave the job as the pay is great and his prospects back in the city are not good. Abhishek/Abbas says that his parents were big fans of Amitabh and that's why they named him Abhishek.

Prithvi's sister Radhika returns from the city to spend time with her brother. Prithvi is very protective of his sister. On her way back, her car suffers a tire puncture, but before Prithvi can reach her, Vikrant finds her on the roadside and takes her to his palace. Vikrant wants to leverage Radhika for his revenge against Prithvi. But Prithvi arrives with Abhishek/Abbas and together they fight Vikrant's goons to rescue Radhika.

Ravi and his friends have to come up with a new plan when Prithviraj spots Abbas celebrating Eid as a Muslim. Abbas has to hire Zohra (Archana Puran Singh) (who is an exotic dancer) in the role of his mother Madhumati as Prithvi insists to meet Abhishek/Abbas's mother. At first Zohra refuses, so the gang tries desperately to find a woman to play Abhishek/Abbas's mother. When Prithvi arrives, Abhishek/Abbas claims that his mother has gone to the temple. After waiting for a long time, Abhishek/Abbs and Ravi are shocked when Zohra arrives to play his mother. But then Ravi's colleagues 2 more women claiming to be Abhishek/Abbas's mother. Abhishek/Abbas claims one of them reared him, and the other one is a maid whom he accords motherly respect. Prithviraj meets Sania & she is he splitting image of his ex-girlfriend Apeksha, who died. Radhika figures out that Abbas and Abhishek are one and the same. It is Sania who steps in & convinces Radhika that Abbas only told a lie to secure his sister's future & to make themselves financially secure.

Meanwhile the budding romance between Prithviraj & Sania leads to Prithvi sponsoring the entire play of Ravi, in which now Sania is the lead character. Makhaan (Neeraj Vora) is Prithvi's trusted aide and suspects that Abbas & Abhishek are the same person. His attempts to convince Prithvi fail, when Radhika helps Abbas to be in every place where Makhaan wants to test his theory.

Radhika & Abbas fall in love & Prithvi sees this. He warns Abhishek to warn Abbas to stay away from Radhika. Radhika is angry that Prithvi is planning to her engaged elsewhere & decides to leave town. She is abducted by Vikrant and his goons. Prithvi thinks that Abbas has abducted Radhika & challenges Abhishek. Abhishek says that Abbas has run away after Prithvi's warning & accompanies Prithvi in rescuing Radhika from Vikrant.

Prithvi is again impressed with Abhishek & offers to get Abhishek married to Radhika. Radhika agrees, but Abhishek says that he can't marry till Sania is married. So Prithvi proposes that he marries Sania. Sania explains her inability to marry Prithvi as she doesn't love him. Prithvi explains that Sania looks like his ex-girlfriend Apeksha, which is why he has feelings for her.

Sania feels bad & asks Abbas to reveal the truth to Prithvi. Makhaan overhears this conversation & finally convinces Prithvi that Abbas has been making a fool of him. Prithvi berates Abbas, but then Abbas interrupts & scolds Prithvi by saying that this whole issue happened caused he saved the life of a boy. Plus, thereafter, it was only his respect for Prithvi that made him say additional lies to protect his first one. Prithvi believes he is telling the truth & forgives him.
