"Now the reunion is over let's get down to business"

Warning: Spoilers
A businessman Frank Weyman thinks some is trying to kill him and calls in Scotland Yard in the shape of Det. Insp. Minter and Sgt. Bennett who come to investigate at Weyman's house by the river. A murder occurs but not the businessman. The detectives sort out the mystery. It's an undemanding film with a small cast and a good plot. Part of it is prettily filmed by the lovely River Thames in the sunshine.

The cast are OK particularly Freda Jackson as the abandoned wife and Patricia Mort as the secretary. The latter when she reveals her true colours is scary. Richard Pearson as Weyman is affecting as his world starts to crumble. A fair entry in the long running Edgar Wallace series filmed at Merton Park.

Quite passable.

An agreeable time-filler which manages to maintain my interest, despite the movie including all the usual trimmings. Derek Farr as the lead is a bit devoid of any kind of charisma but he's not bad as the investigating police officer. The set used for his office at the old Scotland Yard building, is identical to all the other "Edgar Wallace" films. No big names here (as I expected) but the cast do their best with ordinary material.

Attempt to kill

Someone is trying to murder Richard Pearson, a rich man. Is it his jealous wife he wants to divorce? Is it his beautiful secretary whom he wants to marry? Is it the drunken employee whom he fired? Or maybe his best friend isn't as friendly as he thinks. On the case are police detective Derek Farr and his sidekick Clifford Earl who hunt their for a clue here.

A lacklustre and slightly plodding thriller, but it's far from boring. It's just a bit transparent in regards who is behind the attempted murder of the rich man. The acting is first class, and Britain never looked classier. Still it's an efficient time pass.

Nothing special here. No nothing at all.

Warning: Spoilers
You'll wonder why I comment it if it doesn't bring anything for a movie buff as I am. A wealthy business man fires one of his employees and becomes the victim of murder attempt. So the fired man becomes the prime suspect, as you can guess. But it appears that this latest guy is murdered. The investigation begins. The police force discovers that the man's wife has a lover and also that she could become very rich if her husband was killed...Or arrested by the police and so hanged for the murder of his former employee, for instance.

Flat, but perhaps not a sleeping tablet either. A good rhythm, as usual with UK stuff. But no surprises, such a shame. The climax doesn't exist, for my own taste. I saw more exciting in Edgard Wallace series.
