To my surprise, this turns out to be one of my favorites among the many "Made for Television" holiday movies. The cast is an ensemble that does this heart warming story justice. It has a number of inner stories that all seem to get tied together in the end. Obviously, the love interest, but also the father who has stopped celebrating, the child taken away from a father by the war, the up and coming designer trying to make a go of it, the son who is trying to show his worth, and a number of other little threads to get tied together. And, you cannot miss Lauren Holly as the fashion designer. She is hilarious. There is a little something for everyone. Just a simple Christmas story to sit back and make you appreciate the holidays and bring a smile or two. If you don't like this one, you should probably be celebrating a different holiday.

Its's cheesy, predictable and cliché, but isn't that what you want from a christmas romcom? The acting and production is pretty decent, and if you are looking for a stupid, festive and sweet film, this is definitely the film to watch.

Hallmark specializes in Christmas movies, and this one punches all the emotional buttons. Indeed, the story of "Miracle in Manhattan" AKA "Debbie Macomber's Call Me Mrs. Miracle" is like a large jigsaw puzzle that miraculously resolves into a perfect Christmas snow scene for the holiday.
Jewel Staite ("Firefly") plays Holly, a pleasant young woman who works for Lindy Lowe (Lauren Holly), a designer of women's clothes who is the prototypical horrible boss. Holly meets store manager Jake (Eric Johnson) and somehow bumps into him again and again. At the center of this Christmas tale is Mrs. Miracle (Doris Roberts), a seasonal employee at Jake's store who may be more than just the nosy interloper she appears to be.
Those who are suckers for sappy Christmas stories with benign paranormal forces at work will appreciate the heart in this TV movie.

While I did enjoy this movie, I liked the first one more. I thought the story line was cute, brother is fighting was in Afghanistan and he entrusts his son with his younger sister, JS. I think she did a nice job in this particular role although she seemed to over act in a few scenes. I thought the chemistry between her and EJ was very good, they seemed to connect well together. I'm not quite sure though what the writers were thinking in regards to Lauren Holly's role! I can't imagine how they could think we would enjoy how her role was written and acted.... she was so over the top goofy, arrogant and mean. Her facial expressions were cringe worthy. I wonder if the writers had intended her to be so off the wall goofy and by doing so we would find it really funny, well, I didn't, I thought it was really bad... seriously, do you honestly think a guest appearing on QVC or HSN selling her brand would ever act so obnoxiously and then the body shaming jokes were horrendous.... her role was written and acted so poorly.
I very much enjoyed the story line between the father (owner) of the toy store and his son. Doris Roberts was once again so adorable and endearing in her role and I loved the friendship she formed with the pretty Mexican woman, so cute!!
I like how they wrapped it all up at the end, a very nice surprise for both the father of the store and his son finally getting along and even share a hug (tears) and also the father comes home from Afghanistan for Christmas to be with his young son. All in all, I did enjoy this movie and have watched it a few more times over the years! RIP Doris Roberts, you are loved and missed by many.

I really pity the unjustified Scrooge mentality of the 3 negative reviews of 4 before mine. I'm sorry they fail to realize that what one perceives as "plastic" in acting is often just as much a failure on the part of the viewer even to be WILLING to connect with the actor, a willingness I've had for some years with Eric Johnson/Jake & Jewel Staite/Holly and now appreciate having with Doris Roberts/Mrs. Miracle.
I realize the suspension of disbelief can be overused and often is, but in my viewing there was little needed on my part. I thankfully already knew Jewel Straite from Stargate: Atlantis days but was happy to find the two new "jewels" of Jake & Mrs. Miracle, though not realizing that Jake's Eric Johnson was the same old lovably affable self in Flash Gordon of a few years ago. Why they pass up wonderful guys like him for leads or cancel the shows in which they ARE leads is a sad testimony especially to the bad nature of the media and to some extent the viewers. Mrs Miracle returns

Liked the first 'Mrs Miracle' film, while not loving it. It was charming, heart-warming and very easy to watch with a truly great Doris Roberts. Even if the pacing and dialogue not perfect and there was little original. So a nice film if one doesn't expect a classic. While follow ups don't always have good reputations, the second 'Mrs Miracle' film was watched anyway as Roberts returning was hard to resist and being a big lifelong fan of Christmas (and many festive films and specials).
This follow up turned out to be better than expected. Actially liked it a little more than the first film, with the same great things repeated and a couple of improvements along the way. It is not perfect or one of my favourite Christmas films by all means, but as far as festive follow ups/sequels go (very variable in quality) this fares quite favourably. It also compares favourably to the other recently seen Christmas films too, which was an interesting if uneven experience.
Shall gets the imperfections out of the way. Of course the story is predictable again, one knows what happens next a lot of the time. The too neat and abruptly introduced ending being a prime example.
What is also introduced out of nowhere and completely rushed through is the 180 character change for one character, meaning that the change wasn't believable. And it would have been if the change was gradual and if it was an ongoing conflict, not something that happens out of convenience. It is a touch slow in places perhaps too and the dialogue a bit cheesy early on.
A lot is good here though. Roberts once again radiates in charm and comic joy. Jewel Staite and Eric Johnson are also likeable, with a lovely natural chemistry, and Lauren Holly, while over the top at times, enjoys herself. Tom Butler does a nice job. The film looks decent, the locations are particularly striking. The music provides some affectionate nostalgia and is pleasant to listen to, while the direction avoids being too routine. The Christmas atmosphere is handled charmingly and affectionately and the romance is genuinely sweet and doesn't go overboard on the schmaltz.
Roberts' presence does lighten things up and avoids the film from getting over-serious. Despite the predictability, it has its heart in the right place, a difficult to dislike atmosphere and while not all the messaging succeeds it is well intended and has an honesty about it, also found it relatable. There is definitely a festive spirit and there is plenty of warmth and charm here, with enough parts to warm and melt the heart. Never does it feel too juvenile or mean-spirited and the sentimentality generally doesn't become too much.

Sugary Sweet and Utterly Forgettable

This is a sweet story, but there was a theme throughout of returning to a more slow-paced, old fashioned type of holiday. The movie suffers from an seriously saccharine script that is so sugary sweet, it's practically coma inducing. Even when I agreed with the sentiment being stated, I had to roll my eyes at the dialog that was about as subtle as a frying pan to the face.
I actually felt bad for Lauren Holly. Her character was such a ham-fisted caricature of a shallow self centered individual, she occasionally seemed on the verge of cringing while delivering her lines. I'm sure her character was intended to be so over the top as to be humorous, but instead it was just plain awful. I was embarrassed for her.
This movie is okay for what it is - a Hallmark Christmas movie. It's sweet, incredibly simplistic, rather vague on the conflict, and the resolutions are quick and easy. In fact, some of the resolutions are so quick, they're instantaneous. I wouldn't say it's a complete waste of time to watch, but it's such a shallow and frothy piece of fluff that your syrup tolerance level will need to be pretty high. There is so little substance, you will probably forget it thirty minutes after you've viewed it.

It has a heartwarming story and Doris Roberts is fantastic. I actually hadn't seen the first in the "Mrs Miracle" series prior to watching this one and I could still follow along with no problem, as they were about two different families. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a feel-good holiday movie. The whole family will enjoy it.

good day, I went through some of the reviews just to check on , If i am the only one who felt terrible about Jewel Staite. Her appearance , expression less face and pathetic acting had a contribution to get Mrs.Miracle 2009 score more and more. wish Erin Karpluk had played Aunt Holly.Its a good Christmas movie.Eric Johnson has a magical smile he fits in the character very well. missed Erin Karpluk' awesome appearance and mature acting. I loved the character of Mrs. Merkle she was the sort of nosy old dear that we all love and listen to, without realizing that she is helping us. Very well acted and lovable role.I actually felt bad for Lauren Holly. The usually delightful Doris Roberts, who managed to make the prequel to this Hall Channel TV movie good, comes back for another turn as Mrs. Miracle, who may or may not be a heavenly messenger sent to bring holiday cheer to the occupants of this movie. Unfortunately, she seems unable to do as much for any potential viewers. Lauren Holly, as a fashion designer who seems totally out of touch with reality, attempts a comedy turn, but director Michael Scott seems to be unaware of how to modulate his actors' performances and she comes off as creepy and obnoxious. Everyone seems to spend a lot of time chuckling uncomfortably, except for Miss Holly.
The plot centers around ingénue Jewel Staite, who seems to trying to make something real out of her poorly written role, her nephew, who is in her charge in Brooklyn while his widowed father is serving in the Mideast, and and the rocky start of a romance that Mrs. Miracle fosters between her and Eric Johnson, the manager of a department store owned and operated by his father. These last two have issues -- Tom Butler as the father has some nice moments, but they are few and loused up by the fact that he must have a Change of Heart in time for a happy ending. Miss Staite and Mr. Johnson seem capable, but it's hard to tell.
Besides the by-the-numbers plotting, and the magic offered to us -- and isn't it heartwarming to know that people can't solve their problems without magic? -- we have the issue that the plot points are all talked over, never shown. Why bother to have a picture tube on your set at all if you're never going to show us plot points being resolved? Some of these Hallmark Christmas movies have been pretty good, but this one is bottom of the barrel. A pity for some pretty talented performers.

Doris Roberts reprises her role as Mrs. Merkle, aka Mrs. Miracle. It's a cute story. The first one was a nanny story, but also a matchmaker one. In this one, she's not a nanny but a mysterious store employee in a troubled store. But is she really an employee? Somehow everyone forgets to follow up on that question and just accepts her.
Mrs. Miracle is just as meddling, perhaps even more and there is some omniscience implied with perhaps even the ability to direct circumstances.
Jake's dad is a curmudgeon, supposedly because he lost his wife around Christmas. Jake tries to keep his distance while managing dad's store.
I usually like Lauren Holly, but as Holly's boss, Lindy is a bit over the top being clueless and self-absorbed.
Jewel Staite plays Holly as a smart and talented but insecure aunt who is acting as substitute mother for Gabe while his dad is serving overseas. Staite has quiet chemistry with Eric Johnson.
The story has no great highs or lows or surprises. Still, it's not a bad family Christmas movie.

I really enjoy this movie. I have watched it several times already this season! Jewel does a great job as does Eric Johnson.
Hallmark did a good job with this one. My only disappointment was the scene where she gives her nephew cereal and he states his father doesn't let him eat that stuff....well, she tells Jake (EJ) that he's been with her for 2 months so what has he been eating the whole time?
Doris, as always, plays her role perfectly! I love how much grief she gives the antagonist! Gloria (not sure of her real name) is very pretty and adds a nice whim to the movie.
In all hallmark movies there is going to be cheesiness but that's not the point. The point is just to sit back and enjoy Christmas with cute and endearing movies and this one certainly nails it!!

Frankly, I wanted desperately to like this movie because I like the premise of these types of "family miracle" movies. Classics like Mary Poppins, Nanny McPhee, the original Miracle on 34th Street charmingly offer faith, hope, and love via carefully crafted story lines and believable dialog, all the while asking the viewer to check "reality" at the door and make a magical journey with the characters. HOWEVER, with "Call Me Mrs. Miracle", Debbie Macomber's plot is just tediously predictable. Further, the screen writer's stilted dialog and the plastic acting courtesy of the director creates a cringe-worthy movie on every level. It's not even about suspending belief (as suggested by the one and only positive reviewer) ... it's about the quality of the story and it's presentation. There's just no miracle here.

I had just finished reading Debbie Macomber's book that this movie is based on and when I saw that there was a movie for it I was beyond thrilled. The movie appeared to hold a worthwhile cast and who doesn't love Doris Roberts? However, after watching the film, which I can honesty say was an effort in itself, I was unimaginably disappointed.
First off, they have completely re-arranged the story from what was in the book. Now, I understand that screenwriters have creative license when converting a book into a movie, but my God! The ONLY resemblance to the book is the characters names! In the book: Jake Finnley's argument with his father is because Jake ordered 500 Inteletron robots on a hunch they would fly off the shelves. His father JR is furious and worried the store would be losing money because in the current economy, no one can afford a 200.00 robot. The majority of the story centers around Gabe wanting this robot and his Aunt Holly trying to find a way to pay for it, while not intruding on a budding relationship with Jake.
In the Movie: Jake's father is upset because he DIDN'T order any Inteletrons as Jake is hoping that people will go back to old fashioned toys for the kids. Gabe is left to learn the true meaning of Christmas by having older toys like train sets and the like pushed at him.
I found that this single change drastically alters the entire story. Not only that, but I assumed with a cast like Doris Roberts and Loren Holly it would be a wonderful holiday film. Instead, the acting was hollow, Lauren looked plastic and talked like a wind up doll for the entire movie, and the match making was a farce. The only decent quality in the whole film was the kid, whom I suspected wrote the script because real adults do not talk like that! So, buy it if you like a formula story, pushy morality, bad/sad acting and scary botoxed babes, for anyone else stay away.

Romantic and family film

Beautiful film very romantic and brings up feeling of a happy time. Perfect for watching at Christmas when we all need a little magic, real life is so miserable and dull its lovely to escape to a film when good things do actually happen. I loved the character of Mrs. Merkle she was the sort of nosy old dear that we all love and listen to, without realising that she is helping us. Very well acted and lovable role. The relationship between aunt and nephew was great so true to life, aunt trying to care and do all the "right" things with healthy food etc then realising that the child is grown up and needs a friend. This film has true Christmas and family values and bring hope some lovely messages at a special time of year, including the fact that service men often miss these special times with their children. Well done after seeing this had to see the original film, wish they were on DVD.
This Christmas film is a keeper with a perfect cast all around

"Call Me Mrs. Miracle" is a very good film for the Christmas season. Doris Roberts reprises her role as Mrs. Merkle, aka "Miracle," in this sequel to her 2009 role in "Mrs. Miracle." Both are TV films, of course, aired on the Hallmark Channel. While I haven't watched commercial television since the end of the 20th century (because of its overall general decline in quality), I do watch films that are made for TV - either on DVD or by online streaming. And, this sequel is even better than the first film.
The plot is refreshing and interesting with a number of twists. The characters are mostly very likable, and the cast all seem to fit the roles perfectly. I think the role of Holly's boss, Lindy Lowe, is even very good precisely because Lauren Holly overplays the snobbish, egocentric, atrocious Lindy with such exaggeration that everyone is sure to dislike her. And laugh at her outlandish persona. And the fact that Jewell Staite's Holly isn't terribly shaken by her offsets her craziness, and all her staff seem to take it in stride.
Eric Johnson is very good as Jake Finley and Tom Butler is very good as his dad, J. R. Finley, who has lost the Christmas spirit for 20 years since his wife's accidental death on Christmas Eve. All of the rest of the cast are very good and contribute very nicely to this pleasant Christmas story. Quinn Lord, as the 10-year-old Gabe is perfect in his expressions and actions - never disrespectful or sassy, but sort of quietly wondering about his Aunt Holly who seems so out of date but whom he loves and knows she loves him.
Lastly, the music is exceptional in this film. It's noticeable because of the changes when scenes go from a little tense, to rushed and hurried, and then to whimsical. This in an overall very good film - good enough to be added to one's library or files for viewing again during future holiday seasons.
Here's my favorite line toward the end of the film. J. R. Finley, "I think I'd like to retire and work on my golf game." Jake Finley, "You've never played golf." J. R., "That's why I need to work on it."
The plot is refreshing and interesting with a number of twists. The characters are mostly very likable, and the cast all seem to fit the roles perfectly. I think the role of Holly's boss, Lindy Lowe, is even very good precisely because Lauren Holly overplays the snobbish, egocentric, atrocious Lindy with such exaggeration that everyone is sure to dislike her. And laugh at her outlandish persona. And the fact that Jewell Staite's Holly isn't terribly shaken by her offsets her craziness, and all her staff seem to take it in stride.
Eric Johnson is very good as Jake Finley and Tom Butler is very good as his dad, J. R. Finley, who has lost the Christmas spirit for 20 years since his wife's accidental death on Christmas Eve. All of the rest of the cast are very good and contribute very nicely to this pleasant Christmas story. Quinn Lord, as the 10-year-old Gabe is perfect in his expressions and actions - never disrespectful or sassy, but sort of quietly wondering about his Aunt Holly who seems so out of date but whom he loves and knows she loves him.
Lastly, the music is exceptional in this film. It's noticeable because of the changes when scenes go from a little tense, to rushed and hurried, and then to whimsical. This in an overall very good film - good enough to be added to one's library or files for viewing again during future holiday seasons.
Here's my favorite line toward the end of the film. J. R. Finley, "I think I'd like to retire and work on my golf game." Jake Finley, "You've never played golf." J. R., "That's why I need to work on it."

A movie to watch if you're feeling sad...

I watched this on 25 FEB 2022; the day after Russia attacked Ukraine. This is a perfect movie to watch on such a day. It's so sweet and innocent, and made me feel much better after watching.
Did you more or less know exactly what was gonna happen at the end of the movie? Of course.
Have we seen all of this many times before? Indeed
Does this mean you shouldn't watch it after all? No, you really should!
Doris Roberts is a treasure. Around 85 years old at the time, she is fantastic. She makes everyone around her feel better.
I also wathced the first movie, also loved it, but think this one is even better. It's a real shame they dodn't make more than these two.
Also loved Lauren Holly. She's supposed to be a btch, but did it in such a way that you actually felt sorry for her. At least I did.
Doris Roberts; tahnk you for everything. You will never be forgotten.

A Gem!

Yes. This movie is a little gem! One of the very best Hallmark movies I have seen.
One of the reasons is that the lead character, Mrs. Miracle, was outstanding. This is the kind of performance that takes whatever is on the page to a new level. She was wonderful.
The plot is a beautiful depiction of how events may be orchestrated to our advantage by someone or something else. It is a VERY positive movie in the midst of so much negativity. Well done! It's the only kind of movie I want to see these days.
The two romantic leads were wonderful, playing their parts with incredible ability.
This is a sequel to a previous one called "Mrs. Miracle". That one was lacking since the plot did not allow the character, Mrs. Miracle, to really shine. That is not a problem in this move. She shines!
Like many Hallmark movies, there was a bit of overacting on the part of a couple important side characters. This was a distraction and it was a bit difficult to watch them.
But, so be it. The movie is still a gem. It is worth watching over and over.
