From good to great
rfadam7 May 2023
This is is a good show that becomes great as it progresses. The acting is solid, the storyline is engaging and full of twists and turns. It's an epic series that covers over 30 tumultuous years of Spanish history, beginning at the end of the civil war and ending with the fall of the Franco dictatorship. Each of these periods could have been its own shorter series as there was so much going on.

This is a thought-provoking show, as it brings to light a lot of history I was not familiar with, centering on the 'ratlines' that allowed Nazi war criminals to escape via Spain to Argentina, with the support of the Catholic church. Although Germany lost the war, fascism and hate didn't, as some of the escaped Nazis later became officials in Argentinas military regime in the 1970s, which the CIA supported. This show touches on the timeless theme of how to live meaningful, dignified lives amidst all the hate, violence and oppression in the world. An epic series definitely worth watching especially if you speak Spanish.

Dark Acedemia, Chess, and Vintage

Amazing and a unique concept. Loved the setup the series takes place in. I loved the cinematography. It felt quite good. Furthermore, the camera work was also phenomenal. I don't know why but the dark academia vibe really attracted me. Chess was also a good addition to the story. Its also quite fascinating as it tells a story about what the Communists had to face and what absolute hell they went through. All in all this was a good one. Loved the dubbing on Netflix as well. The props were good and the way it was shot really makes your feel immersed in the story. I don't think there will be another season. If there is, I would love to see where this series heads. Cheers!

Hope there is a sequel

I tried watch this 3 times but could not get into it because there was NO "hook" and Ampara was so annoying and unlikeable. Only because I could not find anything else on Netflix, I went back to it a 4th time, and was captivated. Great musical score and I want to watch it again because there was so much political stuff going on. It is a great history lesson. In the end they rushed through like in many movies. The wigs on the Guillaume and the other lead looked ridiculous, too wiggy. Since many men do not lose their hairline as they age in real life, all they had to do was comb it a different and add some gray. Some of the dialogue was silly. I highly recommend!

Only Starting in episode 5
buterria7 May 2023
The first four episodes are superfluous and the historical context could have been condensed to one episode, maybe two, with a lot less sex and nudity. It will put off anyone with a historical curiosity - to suffer through all this frivolous love making. Gratuitous and unnecessary to the story, it just delays the whole thing to the point of utter boredom. Edit. Edit. Edit!

Choose a genre and deliver on it. Historical drama or porn.

I read the synopsis, which is probably the only reason I stayed with it, hoping the story will start at some point. Fifth episode finally! Engaging the right audience early on is not what this was about.
