A Painful Watch
kaideneve17 July 2021
Within the first 10 minutes, this movie establishes a few things: The main character is unbearably and pointlessly annoying. The narrator sounds like your stoner friend in college. Every character in the film, no matter how irrelevant, needs to be introduced with a Guy Ritchie rip-off freeze frame. The sound editing is laughably amateur. The script is so full of cringe it hurts. The only thing impressive about this film is how badly it fails after trying so hard. I'm sure a large portion of viewers watched because of Alexandra Daddario, but even if you're her biggest fan, this is one performance you'll want to skip.

Well, you shouldn't be sober for this.

They should have included a booklet about the movie and bonus lsd tabs in the physical case. That could have been a good Special Edition!

Trailer is misleading
eastcoastdvds22 July 2021
Who was this for? I'm guessing 14-year-olds that have seen Tarantino shirts at Hot Topic and love the aesthetic pages on Instagram that have pictures of Heath Ledger. I didn't think this was going to be "Snatch" or "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang", but I'm drinking in a hotel by myself on a work trip and was hoping it would be fun at least. I started fast-forwarding halfway though. There are no jokes, no gunfights, no interesting characters. I watched two rom-coms last night and cried about an ex. I love that stuff. This was about two rich kids that never owned cell phones (i guess) who get back together after not wanting to split up in the first place. So what was the grand act of love that brought them back together? What was the journey they had to go on? What life and death stakes were they willing to brave for each other? Let me tell you...it was just being back in the same room together after a couple of years at college apart.

I watched it for Alexandra Daddario... and so did you!
mnbsmk10 July 2021
It's a boring B-class movie with an annoying narrator and a cliche plot. I watched for 30 minutes and then skipped to the end, which was predictable.

Alexandra is still beautiful though. So, if you want to watch it for her, go ahead. But you're better off watching True Detective, if you know what I mean.

How is this higher than a 1?
setter-imdb16 July 2021
Pretentious cinematic excuse. 99% of the movie is just meaningless talk, the other 1% is suspect action. Male lead is absolutely underdeveloped and spends his time doing unclear things, female lead just talks (there might be a single twist in the movie, one, one for something that includes "crime" as a genre tag). You can nap while it's on and you won't miss a thing. Or you can just watch it and suffer like the rest of us.

Horrible
cruise0113 December 2021
.5 out of 5 stars.

Horrible story with a modern in take of a romeo and juliet story. Story is horrible. Terrible script. Bad acting. Humor is stale. Just one of those worst films ever made.

What a disaster
chinandchin20 July 2021
Some people said it's a B- class movie, you were so wrong, this is a F- movie. I feel sad for the director, he might think all the dialogues are awesome cool, but instead they are totally garbages, Daddario's worst movie up to date.

200% sure it's a waste of time to watch even 10 mins of this crap.

Needless stain on a Shakespeare classic!
stebird-259577 August 2021
Are Hollywood running out of ideas or something? Why is it that they always have to put new spins on an existing piece of work that has already been done to death?

Quite obviously "Die in a Gunfight" is an attempt to rip off Romeo and Juliet, but a poor attempt at that.

It's contemporary, set in the modern day with all the expected trimmings, two warring families who both have their own competing empires, trying to one up each other, each have an heir to their respective empires, but both heirs have no interest in the business and only have eyes for each other..., it's drivel that plays out predictably and there's not a great deal to sink your teeth into unfortunately..., oh and the title is lazy and uninspired, which says it all really.

It was both fun and annoying.
Top_Dawg_Critic20 July 2021
It was a fun story, but all the overshooting attempts at flair and pizzazz, got stale and annoying real quick. It felt more cartoonish than a romantic thriller. I don't mind commentary in a film, but there were too many attempts at humor that failed, as it did with some of the dialogue. The entire "loves to fight and lose" concept was infantile and unnecessary. Diego Boneta's character was really annoying in most of the film. I think the novice filmmakers - especially the two writers, couldn't pick a theme and stick with it. Had the cartoons been absent, and the story's tone more serious - throughout, it may have been more enjoyable. The pacing felt slow with the many long dragged out scenes, that were more filler than substance, that the 92 min runtime felt much longer. Nevertheless, the casting and performances were good for the most part, especially Travis Fimmel, and the cinematography and score probably the best features.

Absolutely delightful from start to finish
paul-ashton-421 March 2023
As of this writing, Die in a Gunfight has 4.4 stars. I am beyond baffled as to why. I've been grinning from ear to ear since the movie started...and I finished watching almost an hour ago. This film was absolutely delightful from start to finish. There was literally no part of it that I disliked. And the ending--that particular ending and the way it transpired--coildnt have been done better.

Now, don't get me wrong. This isn't particularly high-brow cinema. It isn't particularly low-brow cinema either. What this film is, is particularly entertaining, particularly fun, and particularly wonderful.

Travis Fimmel and Alexandra Daddario are as entertaining and wonderful as they are in all their films but even more charming and endearing. Diego Boneta looked like an A-lister and played his role wonderfully. Justin Chatwin was the perfect mix of crazy and cliché. Emmanuelle Chriqui was as captivatingly sweet and enchanting as she's been in every film she's ever done (a not insignificant feat, given some of her character's idiosyncrasies). And Wade Allain-Marcus was simply phenomenal. He surprised me constantly and defied every rule in the Sidekick's Handbook. Why have I never seen this guy act before?

That's it. That's all I've got. Watch this movie. You'll be happier because you did.

Miserable movie ... as expected when seeing Daddario in anything these days
qazzie311 July 2021
Anyone remember when Dwayne Johnson tried to make Alexandra Daddario a thing a couple years back? Yeah that didnt work. Die in a Gunfight is just another addition to her endless list of miserable movies, unimaginative, amateurish direction, obviously terribly bored cast.

No one here is even trying and it shows. I feel like you cant even fault the actors, given the dialogue they had to work with.

If Romeo and Juliet was written by Gen Z
nickpickle7 December 2021
This movie is so far up its own *** and yet fails to do anything original. The writing is pretentious and disconnected. There are not enough drugs in the world to make this movie bearable.

Avoid At All Costs.....
johnnunzio7015 December 2021
I can't begin to describe how bad this movie is, so I wont. The level of boring is off the charts. Scenes run too long, acting seems forced and the flow of this movie is like a turtle swimming through an ocean of mud.

For the sake of Daddario
fluffset14 July 2021
Only interested to watch this movie because of Daddario, the storyline is cliche, nothing new. Its watchable but forgettable. I think Miss Daddario should starring in blockbuster movie like Marvel & DC stuff. Maybe replace Amber Heard in Aquaman. I love Amber Heard too but people hate her so much today they rate every movie she is in with one. What a ridiculous haters. She is not the only one in the movie. Back to this movie, its cool.

Some entertaining moments in an odd rom-com
trinaboice23 July 2021
IN A NUTSHELL: In New York City, a young guy falls for the daughter of his father's nemesis. Mary and Ben are the star-crossed black sheep of two powerful families engaged in a centuries-long feud. When the pair reignites a romance after many years apart, their forbidden love draws a motley assortment of schemers and killers into their orbit, and as fists and bullets fly, it becomes clear that violent delights will have violent ends. The quirky romance is directed by Collin Schiffli. While critics are hating this movie, audiences really like it.

THINGS I LIKED: It's a modern romance inspired by Romeo and Juliet.

I've always enjoyed Alexandra Daddario in movies and so I'm happy to see her in another one.

Diego Boneta did a great job as an extremely flawed, annoying protagonist.

The standout characters that were the most entertaining were those played by Travis Fimmel and Justin Chatwin. They were both hilarious, offering the comic relief for the film. Justin Chatwin actually performed his own stunts. He's an extreme sports fan and motorcycle enthusiast in real life!

I liked the musical score.

Snarky humor.

Fun fact: There were only 23 days of filming.

Billy Crudup's name is included in the cast, but he only provides the voice-over narration.

If you like Guy Ritchie's take on movie-making, you might get a kick out of this film, full of unique style and violence.

There's a creative animation element to the movie that makes it fun and whimsical.

THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE: It's hard to feel sorry for self-absorbed, rich people.

The protagonist is a real jerk.

All of the characters feel poorly developed.

So much exposition.

The script is badly written with super cheesy dialogue and plot.

SUPER lazy ending.

A lot of the humor doesn't land.

The film starts strong and with great promise but then quickly starts taking a nosedive.

I quickly became bored.

TIPS FOR PARENTS: Tons of bloody violence Disgusting sound effects when some people were killed Various weapons used Crude language, profanity, and F-bombs Pre-marital "relations"

Couldn't even finish it, maybe the last half is a 10/10 movie but I doubt it.
Sobertoaster-764-47956131 January 2022
Looks to be a modern take on Romeo and Juliet? With a typical "hello fellow teens" cool guy main character that is essentially what a 15 year old would imagine a 27 year old bad boy to be. He smokes cigarettes and gets his ass beat for fun woah bro he doesn't even give a crap! Ok... Every time I thought a scene would actually flip into an action sequence with some actual fighting, guns, etc, It didn't. It was pretty much just a corny edgy drama the first 45 minutes or so with an unoriginal story.

Completely Corny, Crazily Cool... "Solid 7"
glenn_gallagher10 July 2021
Its Romeo & Juliet, we all know the story so dont expect anything new. Having said that, its a stand out from the 100's of other adaptations.

Its corny in the traditional romeo and juliet way but don't think Baz Luhrmann think 'Shoot Em Up' meets 'Gatsby'.

This movie wont be for everyone but it ticks most of the essential boxes for an enjoyable late night movie. I really enjoyed it.

Trying very hard. Failing.
deekrezz2 March 2022
This movie tries hard to be a mix of a Tarantino / Guy Richie / Wes Anderson type of vibe.

It fails dismally. Lazy & unimaginative writing, uninteresting characters, poor acting, inconsistent plot.

Overall, you'll have to force yourself to see it through to the end. Don't bother.

Worst movie I've ever seen..
jazzykitten25 August 2021
Terrible. I just wanted the movie to end. At first it was sort of interesting but it seems like the director gave up in the middle of the movie. The most interesting character was a side character, which is sad. The movie was long and drawn out, its like when you write an essay and add fluff words in so you can just finish it and turn it in. I would rather watch the movie Cats.

2 stars for Alexandra
wildsnow908 December 2021
Not her best performance, but it's boring lazy writers and director are to blame for this mess.

It both the acting and the character of Ben that fails this film too. Even giving out stolen rich people coats to the homeless, doesn't help make him a likable character.

Plus 1 star fir the actor for Mukul.
