Nice lowkey well-acted episode
yerwan19 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Seemed like Herriott Goes To Hallmark in this romantic episode (S3 E1). Slow-paced without much energy but still enjoyable to watch. Music was a bit heavy-handed, Tricki Woo manages to squeeze in an appearance and seemed out of place, and the pub night hijinks seemed a little too contrived. Nice enjoyable show, though, with the characters we love, but production quality came across more like a low-budget formulaic Hallmark movie. I'm looking forward to the upcoming Series 3 episodes and a return to a more dynamic storyline and more interesting side characters. The army recruiting is definitely foreshadowing events to come as World War II is on the horizon. The scenery and sets are as gorgeous as ever and the actors make for an appealing ensemble with good chemistry, and it's great to have such a pleasant show to watch. I loved the original 1970s series, my favorite of all television shows, and this series brings that wonderful world back to life with 21st century production quality.

Poor Start to Series 3

Warning: Spoilers
All creatures is one of the best programmes on TV. The first two series were like a breath of fresh air, with great storylines excellent casting and wonderful scenery. Most of all it was a family show that you could watch without seeing or hearing anything offence.

This episode had 3 unnecessary scenes. Firstly, Tristan fantasising about Maggie which added nothing to the script. Secondly, James blaspheming when in Church, although he corrected himself he could have used a much less offensive word like hell . Thirdly James and Helen undressing each other. It could have been less suggestively. Please don't spoil this series by adding scenes and dialogue which add nothing to the script. Hoping for better episodes in the series.

Lord of the ring

Warning: Spoilers
Anyway, I'm finally getting around to watching the third season of All Creatures Great and Small and James and Helen finally get married in a beautiful church. There was the saga of the missing ring which raised issues of responsibility and all, and when the ring turned up I was still left wondering where it was kept and who kept it.

Will James join the armed forces to fight in world war two? Tristan's insightful comment that James's sense of duty will be the death of him got me thinking, especially when Helen distracted James from the eager army recruiter after they returned from their honeymoon.

We enjoyed the episode but have one comment ...
VetteRanger16 January 2023
The drama with the ring in this episode reminded me of my own wedding. We were both at the church and realized we'd forgotten the rings. So that that neither of us would be kidded about the other one being missing, we drove back to my wife's house together to retrieve the rings. Her second wedding so no big white dress. We both wore dressy clothes but sensible. On the way back there was a close football game on the radio (and a BIG local game), so we were about five minutes late to our own wedding as we listened to the end of the game. LOL

This episode showed the life of a health professional, be their patients human or animal. James had a responsibility and he lived up to it.

Our comment was guests at the wedding. Evidently the producers were too cheap to fill the church with extras and sometimes regulars. All of James' and Helen's friends and the majority of the veterinary practice's customers (also friends for the most part) would have been there, and would have been highly insulted if not invited.

So that didn't ring true. However, we were delighted to finally get James and Helen married, and at least caught up to that point in the story from the original series.

Too Much Wedding
Hitchcoc31 January 2024
This business with the two getting married has now dragged through three episodes. If you've read past reviews of mine, I have a couple of real prejudices. At the top of the list is being forced to watch two of the characters get married. I agree with the person who said what a tiresome plot element this is. Also the the ring business. For heaven's sake. Another thing that bothers me a bit is the whole drinking thing. The whole community seems to be OK with getting so drunk you don't even know where you are. On the eve of your wedding you end up in a barn, covered with hay. If this were the only time, I could pass on it, but drunkenness seems to be at the center of some many things. That pub is the refuge. We have enough glorification of drunkenness in this country. People apparently find it funny. Having lived with a family ruled by an alcoholic, it isn't. Are they telling us that life is so awful that they need to get hammered every chance they get. One other issue is the war that is coming. Has England declared a state of war at this juncture? It was a bit disconcerting to see recruiters roaming the streets, intimidating people. I'm sure the English came to the fore when the war as actually at their doorstep. This seemed harsh. I will be interested to see where this goes. As for the cow being euthanized, it's part of the whole issue of wanting to stay in this community. The young farmer who is all gung ho and judgmental is interesting.

Did they have to shoot the cow?!

Warning: Spoilers
This show has been one of my all time favorite shows but this episode was so disappointing! I get with the timing of the Second world war coming that there is some foreshadowing going on but the whole episode seemed bleak and dark.

I understand life on a farm also includes death but on an episode that included the wedding couldn't they have waited till the next episode for shooting an animal?

And I get wanting a small wedding but it was almost depressing that hardly anyone was there! Doesn't Helen have any friends?

I sincerely hope this season gets better. I was looking so forward to this episode but feel so let down.

Worst episode ever

Warning: Spoilers
The writing or the directing? They spent a lot of time on the "I've lost the ring" plotline. A total cliche. Then you have the stupid scene where the two vets were too cowardly to put down an animal that needed putting down. The vets have done this many times before and now they cannot do it? Why was that put in there? It made no sense whatever. Then there was the scene of the guy going off to war and looking like he really wanted to come back and shoot the veterinarians. Then to top the whole thing off, Tricki-Woo is at the wedding without Mrs Pumphrey and with no explanation whatsoever. It would just have taken a line tucked in somewhere to explain it. It was just so unprofessionally done, the whole episode. Was it the writers or director??? I hope this isn't a sign of what is to come.
