The coke was probably real
jaubert-436884 July 2023
This movie gotta be one of the worst movies I've seen this year, and I watch Lifetime movies for fun. I don't know who thought this movie was a good idea. Did the people filming this movie think it was a good idea too? There's no way people weren't actually on drugs during production. ($20 million budget) There's Skai Jackson with an RPG, the creepy girl from Orphan doing a lap dance, Batwoman with a Streetfighter reference, and COD-style montage footage. None of it was good and it is as fever dreamish as it sounds. The acting felt like everyone knew it was bs and a cash grab except for one individual. She wasn't good, in fact, her acting was atrocious, it was like watching a skinwalker learn to be human and talk in English with Jim Carrey's mask on. 2/10.

Wow, seriously...?
paul_haakonsen5 July 2023
Right, well I was actually expecting the 2023 movie "Sheroes" to be an action comedy when I sat down to watch it. I had never heard about the movie prior to sitting down to watch it, so I wasn't really sure on just what I was getting into.

And having just sat through 91 minutes of "Sheroes", I have to say wow. Just wow! This movie, from writer and director Jordan Gertner was just a bitter pill to swallow. While the storyline started out adequately, and definitely seemed like a comedy, the movie just quickly took a turn and become an action movie. But it just didn't feel right in any way, especially since the characters were so very unlikely action heroines. They went from partying young adults to suddenly becoming highly trained ladies capable of taking down a Thai drug cartel singlehandedly, something which several countries had been unsuccessful in doing. Yeah, that was very plausible and believable.

The storyline in the movie just felt awkward, because I am sure that writer and director Jordan Gertner were fully serious about the plot, storyline, characters and the contents of the story.

While I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble, I will say that the actresses and actors on the cast list actually performed adequately, despite of a very laughable script they had to work with.

If you enjoy action movies, then perhaps you would get a kick out of watching "Sheroes", if you can get past the fact that the director was fully serious about what was transpiring on the screen. I managed to sit through the movie, and found some bizarre, odd entertainment to the ludicrous plot. However, this is not a movie that I will ever return to watch a second time.

My rating of writer and director Jordan Gertner's 2023 movie "Sheroes" lands on a four out of ten stars.

"Uh.. pretty uneventful"
daisukereds1 July 2023
Generic Party Girls go to rich-lead's "casa" in Thailand and mess with a drug cartel. Soon, one of them is kidnapped and they fight to get her back.

The story is REALLY simple and devoid of any depth (as you could tell from the trailers), and how the film executes and develops on that is barely coherent or worth critiquing or discussing. I'm actually impressed with the quality of the Cinematography and Lighting, though! Nice locations too.. but the tired interactions and childish dialogue, boring personalities and bad "action" makes this a boring watch. I'd go as far as to call this an insult to the viewers, scriptwriters anywhere, and even to those fighting against Drug Cartels! Oh, and after a while of getting to know these girls (specially "Diamond"), nothing they intend as erotic is remotely appealing. It comes across as silly.

"Courtesy of your friendly neighborhood sheroes." Can't stop laughing

Warning: Spoilers
This movie broke my brain.

The number of times I yelled, "OMG." Or, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN!?!?" Or, "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!"

This movie is absolute bottom-of-the-barrel trash quality. On every level. In every aspect of filmmaking. There's no point in listing them all out. This movie is 8 stars on the SoBad scale. It's the dumbest, worst thing ever. (1 viewing, 7/7/2023)

SPOILERS

There are infinity things to make fun of. Here are some things I noted down as I was watching:

This movie has the gall to reference James Bond when a character orders a martini shaken, not stirred. This movie has the gall to completely rip off mission impossible. They even steal a line from Spider-Man (see my headline above). And a character does the Black Widow pose from the Avengers.

There is a scene where they're watching some news footage of a man promoting a fight. Later, they go to see that man in person, and it's the exact same footage/dialogue of him promoting the fight. Are you kidding me? You couldn't film another 5 second scene with one actor?

I'm never one to complain when a woman wins a fight against a bigger man. We're watching a movie with imaginary characters. James Bond can beat up a guy three times his size. That's his character, he's THAT good. In Sheroes, on the other hand, it's a fight between a "skater girl" and what amounts to a professional MMA fighter... Are you for realing me?

By the end of this movie, these women are super spies... In a span of a few days... With their only training being target practice. WHO WROTE THIS?!?!?

There is a CGI shot of a plane. It's just flying, not an action scene. And it literally made me yell out, "WHAT IS THAT?!?!?!" It looks like a PS2 game. Vehicles are one of the easiest things to CGI. How is it this bad? And if it is, why would you even use that shot. It's completely unnecessary.

I can't even do it. This is insanity. There is a scene where Diamond gets to the head cartel guy with her pistol pointed at him. He gets up and walks towards her like he's not afraid. Then he sees a red dot on his chest and suddenly stops, looking very concerned. And they show Ezra with a sniper, "I got him." I don't understand. Is the pistol not enough? Is the guy immune to pistol bullets and his only weakness is sniper bullets?

Then when he threatens to follow them home and kill them all, she shoots the two poisonous spider terrariums on the wall behind him. Then IMMEDIATELY in the next shot, he has two spiders on his face, looking like he's dying. Did her bullets have a shockwave effect that launched the spiders out of the terrariums and onto his face, and caused them to be so startled that they instantaneously bit him????????

Also, why wouldn't she just shoot him? You know, so he doesn't immediately come after you... EXACTLY like he does. Then Diamond throws the gun to Ryder instead of shooting the guy herself. I DON'T UNDERSTAND.

Even the end credits song is hysterical.

Generic, entitled, vapid, girl bosses in Thailand. Avoid.
stevelivesey-371832 July 2023
Holy moly is this bad.

In chronological order of awfulness. It has Terrible cgi

The dialogue, script and plot are childish. Some of the Borrowed dialogue from Taken is cringe.

Unlikeable characters, make that every character in the movie are awful, stereotypical and wooden.

I could go on with the Bad dialogue, the Terrible acting, The Flawed logic involved in the plot, eg, the sniper rifle just hanging around, is laughable.

Jordan Gertner who wrote and directed this is, ahem, famous for bringing us the awful Spring Breakers and the equally risible London Fields. I'm not kidding this is Showgirls bad.

To painful and uneventful to get to the end.
OtterBot2 July 2023
Good god where to start well I couldn't even make it to the end of the moive

But let's start off with the nicknames they are given (wouldn't normally say this sort of thing about actresses but you opened the doors with the crazy hot naming) the names for them make no sense unless this film was meant to be a parody "crazy hot" well she just isn't (two of the others are more attractive), the "wanting star" appears to already be an actress in the film and some how acted better when pretending to be one in the film. Then a few minutes in they get on the plane which is the most hard to watch thing I have ever seen first off they have extremely cringe door opening sounds also from one angle it shows lights coming through the plane windows then the other it is dark (can see / that it's a sort of mdf wall) the cgi of the plane looks like it's more at home on the average YouTube video. The acting is we'll just flat out wooden and bad script writing to the point that the main characters appear to be asking out loud questions the viewers are meant to be asking themselves. My summary of this film would be bad acting, bad and uneventful script. Recommend to avoid and watch almost anything else.

vapid turns Charlie's Angels
SnoopyStyle3 July 2023
Ezra "Waning Star" (Isabelle Fuhrman), Diamond "Crazy Hot" (Sasha Luss), Ryder "Skater Girl" (Wallis Day), and Daisy "Lost Soul" (Skai Jackson) are best friends forever. Diamond's movie superstar dad invites the girls to the vacation home in Phuket, Thailand. Jasper (Jack Kesy) is their private plane new pilot. A baggage mix-up leaves the girls with a bag full of cocaine.

This is written and directed by Jordan Gertner which is his debut for both jobs. I get what he's trying to do, but it's not fun. More than anything, the audience is looking for fun. This is not it. First, these are vapid party girls and not in a fun way. They start the movie by doing various complaints. I understand Ryder's sexist complaint and Daisy's job complaint. Diamond opens with her being "Crazy Hot" and just annoying entitlement. She's the leader and sets an infuriating tone. The bag of drugs has no explanation. The girls are the authors of their own downfall. The movie then tries to be Charlie's Angels and it's like one of the lesser of that franchise. This needs more fun, more imagination, and more appealing characters.

Cringeworthy in places but it passed the time
mike_bike_kite5 July 2023
It's a bit like the A-Team but with a prettier cast and a less intellectual script. This film did make the A-Team exploits look fairly believable in comparison.

You can stop reading here but apparently I need to type a lot more characters to submit this review! I'm not sure whether I can keep going but, if the script writer of the film managed to keep going to the end, then I can't see why I can't.

I think they just needed someone to look at the cast and then at the script and ask themselves honestly - would I believe this if it was shown to me as a film? Maybe, after a lot of beer it might get more believable but I suspect I'd of passed out before this point.

Why did they have to hurt Ezra?
awesomebro-3224730 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I spent most of the film dreading what was coming and it came and left me traumatized. Ezra, Isabelle Fuhrman's character in the movie gets shot in the upper right part of her chest luckily she survived. They never should have added that to the movie to begin with, they should have left Ezra unharmed. If you want to make good movies, then don't add stuff that traumatizes people. Horrible violence against beautiful women is traumatizing to look at. Director Jordan Gertner is a sadistic person who enjoys traumatizing people with stuff like that and he has absolutely no sympathy or compassion for the people he traumatizes. Make your movies better.

Angels of Mission Impossible
staunton-gary2 July 2023
From the synopsis, I thought that this might be a little fun movie to while away the time, I was right. It was nice to see Isabelle Fuhrman (Ezra) being all feminine and sexy, especially after I had recently seen her in Orphan: First Kill (2022). Wallis Day (Ryder) played the part of the fighter, but was portrayed to look like Wallis Day in Charlie's Angels (2019), but that was in my opinion. Sasha Luss (Diamond) played the part well enough, but I couldn't take to her character. Skai Jackson (Daisy) was just the helpless love interest that needed to be rescued.

With a relatively small budget (around $20 million), I think that the movie was done well enough. A bigger budget would have produced a much better experience, but it is what is. Some acting is rubbish and is definitely a B level performance. The writing, it's easy to see where some of the inspiration came from, just didn't have the budget to produce it for the screen.

Don't expect big budget effects and polish, and you will probably enjoy it. I would recommend this.

Thought I'd check it out for Wallis Day
henryvic-384564 July 2023
Because she's a nice girl as much as she has a great actress. She's really nice to her fans. She doesn't seem to get a lot of opportunities. Maybe they think she's too intimidatingly sexy. Anyway, every time I see a whole lot of bad reviews, I tend to want to check out the IP more because critics tend to be wrong. The great thing about streaming, is you do not have to sit through something if you don't want to. You can just watch it in little intervals. A lot of times if a movie is compelling, then I'll probably want to stay and watch it in one sitting. But just because I watch something in one sitting, doesn't mean it was a good movie.

Delivers exactly what it promises, more actually
A_Different_Drummer2 July 2023
The basic economics of film making dictate that, in today's market, there is more demand than supply. Creators can fill the void with overhyped overpriced nonsense (like F&F X) or they can set a more realistic target. And hit it. This is what used to be called a B movie meant to fill time with a colorful and distracting tale of 4 beautiful women who take a spur of the moment trip to Thailand and immediately get involved in some zany adventures involving goons and guns. It never promised to be more than that. And it delivers. It is technically perfect. Even the music fits. I can think of a dozen Netflix series I started and never finished because the production team just plain ran out of ideas halfway in. This film sets a target and hits it. Why the haters? Who has one of these?
nogodnomasters8 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Four hot friends go on vacation together when Diamond's (Sasha Luss) dad lets them use his vacation home in Phuket, Thailand. Ezra (Isabelle Fuhrman) is an actress who has slept with Diamond's dad, an action movie hero which doesn't make her happy. Ryder (Wallis Day) and Daisy (Skai Jackson) round out the foursome flying on daddy's private plane. Their stated goal is to have sex on cocaine as if they can't do that in California. A mix up in the luggage gives the girls a large amount of cocaine belonging to the Thai cartel. Daisy ends up kidnapped and the cartel wants their product back. Diamond convinces the others to take action into their own hands as she has seen and "lived" all of her dad's films.

It was a fun film watching three women who look like models take on a cartel. Good film for those who liked Charlie's Angels.

Guide: F-word. Brief sex. Brief shadow nudity (Sasha Luss)

Could do with more funny moments
fluffchop22 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
If you find a bag full of drugs in Thailand the first thing you do is call the cops right? NO!! These chicks start doing drugs so that if the cops come now they're in jail for life. Well done. Firstly why go to Thailand in the first place? If they wanted to go to a house for the week just go to an AIRBNB in America. So somehow all four girls can just drop everything without any planning and fly away? Have you ever tried to organise a trip anywhere? It takes planning of your holidays from work doesn't it? So one chick is kidnapped. Here's a better idea, grab all four chicks at the house and get your drugs back. But no that would be far to realistic for this abortion of a film. So now they plan to rescue their friend. Queue the room full of guns. So now it's time to fire guns. They're in a marina full of boats and nobody calls the cops on them. Can you really keep watching at this point? If in doubt keep watching because it improves when they catch the head of the Cartel. It's ultimately not a bad film and it was someones first go at making something. From that perspective it's not a bad effort but the film actually believes the story it's telling. Like I'm sure this guy that wrote this thinks it's a serious story when it's the most unrealistic load of crap you'll ever see. They're throwing nades and setting off explosives. It's beyond belief.

Almost barely saved by the charismatic cast but... its bad.
destroyerwod25 July 2023
So this movie open up with 4 party goer young ladies on a vacation in Thailand. Something goes wrong and one of them is captured and they have to save her.

On paper it looks like a funny action comedy ... the problem is... its neither.

Never the movie really try to be funny. There is some back and forth between the main characters that may pull half a smile out of you but thats it. How about action? Nope. There is barely any.

The movie has maybe like 10 minutes of poorly filmed gun fights and 1 barely decent hand to hand action sequence. Thats all.

This movie is a receipy for disaster at first glance but somehow ... i can't totally trash it. The 4 main actresses are somewhat charismatic enough to make me go along the very uninteresting and completely ridiculous story.

They act well enough and have some personality so you kinda get invested a bit into them. That said the story is REALLY dumb. Like some guys said it would had work as a VERY self aware action comedy, like really going for nonsense and nothing serious but the movie try to be serious for the whole thing.

I want to keep this spoiler free so nothing specific but it borrow some cliché from action movies where you supose to be thinking its an hommage or be funny but it lead to nothing really. Not even a chuckle.

Even the key plot point make no sense as a serious movie. Its not a spoiler as its in the trailer but one of them get captured and this is basically a rescue mission. Ok fine. But why the big bad drug cartel vilains didn't capture all 4 of them? Why 1???

This is the kind of nonsense we could overlook in a very funny comedy but like i said this is not it... Its not meant to be funny. Its meant to be serious.

Also maybe the less important thing but beside the expensive car and luxury villa, the movie must had the budget of a cinema school because they even CGI (Playstation 2 type of graphics) a plane in air. Like litterally Star Wars miniatures from 1977 look more real.

Overall this movie is a dumpster fire. There is nothing redeemable in the script or cinematography. BUT Sasha Luss, Wallis Day and the 2 other actresses have SOME chemistry on screen and act well with the material given... so they kinda made me forget at time what kinda bad movie i was watching.

That said, do i ever wanna watch this movie again? No. I wanna see these actresses in better project tough. Im being ULTRA generous with a 4 out of 10 (or 2 stars if you on Letterboxd) because despite it all the movie is rather short and i kinda wanted to see how it ended... so it did manage to get SOME of my attention (i did looked at my cell and answered a few messengers twice tough).

Men sucks: the movie
yudhabagaskara19 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A man-directed film but women takes the wheel. 2019 Charlie's Angels but far more average than people expected. The film tells a story about four best friends whose one of them was captured only because she wanted to get high. Their rescue mission is so cliched with some references to action franchises like Taken, Mission: Impossible, Rambo and James Bond. Story is so flawed that i already expected what will happen to them and the bad Thai guys. The male actors in this film are so awful (except for Thai ones who might be grateful to work with some second tier actors).

Sasha Luss, who hit a jackpot after starring a film with Cillian Murphy (one of the most talked actors of 2023 by the way) few years ago, suffered a massive downgrade after she managed to sleep with random-ass NPC who secretly has an allies in enforcement agency. It's a bit like trading your Rolls-Royce Ghost Black Badge with a Dacia Sandero 😔.

worst movie ever
shaun-1846029 December 2023
Watched this atrocious attempt at an action movie.

Storyline feels like it was put together from a mosh mash of kindergarten children, makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, characters are hollow and show no real emotion, find a bagful of cocaine and not surprise or horror at the face someone is gonna come looking for it. Cannot actually think of anything positive about this pathetic excuse for a movie. I can only wish that i my eyes had not been offended by this utter rubbish.

The diamond character is the worst, the actress should go back to working in Macdonalds, and the writers well they should find another profession.

Barely Watchable
jflor-0101826 December 2023
To be honest, the only reason I watched this, is because I like most of the movies that Isabelle Fuhrman has been in. The current rating is something like 3.5, but I gave it a 4, because it kept my attention. There's quite a few new movies that can't even accomplish that, and I end up not watching them or barely paying attention. This movie isn't good, but if you're bored and like some of the actresses, then it might be worth your time. If not, I would not recommend it. Although it is amusing at times, it's not exactly original or clever in any way. Still, if you're bored and curious, it might be entertaining enough for you.

Different action movie
eprusulis30 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I actually really enjoyed this movie. It was much better than reading. I am Bt gave it is a unique storyline, but in a way it would be true. You know like some I'm not gonna say the details, but someone who's into making action, movies and stories of action wouldn't know how the crime will take place I also love Wallace day I actually love the staff the cast of the show. And actually, the cast was really good with working together. They really look like they were friends for a long time. I thought the whole of it was an interesting take on action movie and once again, I love all of the day I thought if they made her into the new bat woman, the show might still be on the air today.

A lot weird reviews on here...
Jyoti_Mishra30 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This film is exactly as good as any of the Fast & Furious films, Expendables or Megs 1&2. It is WAAY more fun and watchable than the last Jurassic Blah film. It is not as good as The Bourne Identity or Oceans Thirteen. It is not trying to be The Bicycle Thieves or The 400 Blows.

Why the hatred for a simple, popcorn action film? Maybe some people just don't like seeing young women as action stars? Because they're "unbelievable." Really? To say they're unbelievable means you believe ancient Arnie or Harrison Ford can leap about like spider monkeys. (Clue - they can't.)

All the central actresses delivered great performances from what was, admittedly, occasionally lumpy dialogue. (But still better written dialogue than A New Hope, let's be honest.) And the supporting cast were also excellent, the bit on the rocky beach with Love Interest Bloke was genuinely touching. I liked that the head kidnapper got to deliver an anti-US imperialism speech whilst twirling his moustachio. BADGES? WE NEED NO STINKING BADGES!

Okay, there were some silly bits. But Will Smith PUNCHED AN ALIEN in Independence Day - you don't watch popcorn action films for cinema verite. In fact, partially what defines an action film is ridiculous stunts that make you throw said popcorn at the screen. The third act of Sheroes has plenty of those moments, you're gonna need a bigger bucket.

Criticisms: there is some choppy editing going on. Like the last scene when they end up next to the plane but the audience is given no wide shot before they get there so it appears as if by magic. And what's with the weird held shot when they're walking up the stairs? I feel like they'd planned to throw a comic book filter on or something but couldn't be arsed in the end so it ends up well stilted.

But I'll forgive all that for the sense of fun, the beautiful scenery and the way that, unlike the increasingly pompous Fast series, this film blatantly does not take itself seriously. There's no grave musings on the importance of FAMBLY here. Just women ducking around, having fun and shooting a copious quantity of bad guys. YAAAAY!
