American Idol judge Katy Perry recently slammed fellow judge Luke Bryan over his comments to a contestant. What did Bryan say that got under Katy’s skin?
American Idol: More Hopefuls Sent Home
As veteran American Idol fans know, no matter how much viewers love certain contestants, there can only be one winner when it’s all said and done. Unfortunately, that means, every week, more fan-favorites will be packing their bags and going home.
This is especially true as this season of American Idol is getting down to the nitty-gritty. In the most recent episode alone, more singers were cut from the competition. When it gets to this stage, the slightest mistake can be the difference between going home or sticking around. So, the margin for error is non-existent.

The pressure was on for American Idol performers.

One of the Nordic region’s biggest providers of premium series, Copenhagen-based REinvent International Sales, will make a splash at this week’s Canneseries festival and MipTV market.
For the second consecutive year, the sales, financing and packaging banner has two titles in competition: the Danish drama thriller “Dark Horse”, due to world premiere in the main competition, and the short form Swedish dramedy entry “Painkiller”, which initially bowed at the Göteborg Film Festival.
“Last year we had the Norwegian political drama “Power Play” which won best series, and the Swedish romantic dramedy “Out of Touch” in the short form section. Canneseries is a great platform to get the hype going on your series,” commented Helene Aurø, REinvent sales and marketing director.
Turning on this year’s competition candidates, Aurø points out that both “Dark Horse” and “Painkiller” deal with mother/daughter relationships.

Welcome to Sales to Astonish, a new column in association with comics retailer The Unreality Store, in which Matthew De Monti brings us news on comic sales and the general moves in the comic market over the past month or so!
To start the Year in Review I’ll start with looking at sales by product type and then touch upon some general themes at the end.
Marvel Comics
2023 for me has undoubtedly been all about Marvel with back issue sales accounting for around 60% of the year’s sales. I’ve been staggered by the continued demand for Marvel back issues, especially titles from the late 80’s and early 90’s that I can remember hitting the shelves. Many of these issues, especially the likes of X-Men and Spiderman had print runs into the hundreds of thousands every month so you would think that there is an abundance of copies out there.

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or Snes, is still heralded as one of the greatest consoles that any video game company has ever released. Its legacy is defined by hits within well-known Nintendo franchises like Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Kirby, Zelda, and Star Fox.
However, there is a long list of titles that were launched on Snes that acted as tie-ins or adaptations to popular movies and TV series. As was always the case with the jump from screen to console, there were a few duds among the release schedule as studios looked for an easy way to cash in on a familiar property. However, just because there are those video games that players would be best off forgetting, that doesn’t mean there aren’t genuine gems from Snes history. These movie and TV titles, which were released on the Super Nintendo, both captured the essence of their...

People forget that George Harrison often produced songs for other groups and artists. John Lennon was a big fan of a tune George produced for a band that wasn’t The Beatles. Despite the tune’s pedigree — and John’s endorsement of it — it remains obscure. The track sounds like it could’ve been written for the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
John Lennon said a George Harrison-produced song was ‘amazing’
During a 1974 interview with Lennon on Lennon: Conversations With John Lennon, John discussed hearing George’s music on the radio. “Well, it was hours ago when we played these records, but we’ll tell you what was happening hours ago, ’cause if you’re like me, you wait and wait to hear what it was, you know,” he said. “Why don’t they tell you what it is? A few hours ago … oh, it’s not this list up there; oh,...

John Carpenter's "The Thing" is a movie so cold and miserable you feel it in your bones as you watch it.
Pitting a group of U.S. civilians at an Arctic research station against a shape-shifting alien that can convincingly imitate other living organisms, Carpenter's 1982 sci-fi/horror flick notoriously bombed upon its initial release in theaters. Over 40 years later, though, it's now justly regarded as a masterclass in genre filmmaking. With its incredibly gory practical creature effects (which are as gross as they ever were) and bleak-as-hell atmosphere, Carpenter's nihilistic exercise in paranoia has aged far more gracefully than the gung-ho Reagan-era entertainment the masses were flocking to at the time it was made.
As a film ahead of its time that would go on to find a much larger fanbase thanks to home media, it was inevitable that Carpenter's "The Thing" would return in some new form...

David Dastmalchian, the actor known for spooky roles in films such as Dune and The Suicide Squad, has lined up a new gig that feels appropriate for Friday the 13th.
Dastmalchian is the new brand ambassador for Titan Casket, a company that sells caskets online and helps with end-of-life planning. As part of his duties, Dastmalchian will appear in marketing materials and be the face of the company.
For Dastmalchian, teaming with the company is personal, as in recent years he has lost family members and wishes he had been aware of end-of-life planning that can make those difficult times less painful.
“It’s an honor to represent Titan Casket, a brand that’s not only making end-of-life planning more accessible and affordable, but also initiating crucial conversations around it,” Dastmalchian said in a statement. “If I had known about Titan Casket and the right to buy my own casket,...

September was a month of change. I’d been conscious that although the website will always remain the cornerstone of The Unreality Store, website traffic and orders have been on a downward trend since April. Despite running various promotions and sales they seem to be a very reactive event to what is an underlying challenge of getting people to the website and then in turn making a purchase.

Singer-songwriter Katy Perry has got a new tattoo. She took to the Story section of her Instagram recently and shared that she has a new finger tattoo to celebrate the final leg of her Las Vegas residency Play.
In the first post, Perry’s hand rested under a light as tattoo artist Liz Kim etched the ink onto her finger, reports People magazine.
“You guys know what it is? I bet you can’t guess what I’m getting right now,” the singer said in the video as the light obscured the details of her new body art. “But I am getting my tour tattooed, it’s a tradition.”
“8 more #Play shows left so it’s tour tattoo time.”
The ‘Firework’ songstress wrote over the clip. In a follow-up image, Perry showed off her new tattoo of a cartoon mushroom — an object featured prominently within her Play residency.

Katy Perry learned something about “hetero relationships” while watching a viral moment between Victoria and David Beckham in the pro athlete’s new Netflix docuseries Beckham.
The 38-year-old “Dark Horse” pop superstar – who is engaged to Orlando Bloom – hopped on Instagram to joke after seeing a video of David keeping Victoria honest during an interview segment.
From the brief clip (and a few others of the stars), she came to a realization about something that many straight couples have in common.
Read more about Katy Perry’s realization…
In the most viral clip, Victoria was saying that she and David came from “working class” families, prompting her husband to stick his head into the room where she was speaking and tell her to “be honest.” He kept pushing until she admitted that her dad drove a Rolls-Royce when she was a child.

Calling all Scoobies — it's time to return to Sunnydale and catch up with all of our favorite demon-fighting, vampire-slaying heroes. Audible is releasing a "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" original audio story set 10 years after the finale of the beloved television series with a number of the original cast members reprising their roles. The series had previously been continued in Dark Horse's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" comics, though those aren't considered to be canon by many, and this new audio original could be the first canon entry in the Buffyverse for two decades.
"Slayers: A Buffyverse Story" was written by original cast member Amber Benson, who played witchy Tara, along with horror writer Christopher Golden, who authored numerous "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" novels, so fans should have no concerns about the audio original's authenticity. On top of having a stellar writing duo behind the tale, "Slayers" will feature quite a...

Whether it’s superhero fatigue or something else, there’s no denying that the MCU and the DC Universe are falling on hard times. Secret Invasion set record lows for Marvel, as did the reviews for Ant-Man the Wasp: Quantumania, and The Flash stumbled to become the lowest money maker in Warner Bros. history.
But let’s get a little perspective, shall we? These movies aren’t great, but superhero movies are, on the whole, better than what came before the MCU launched in 2008. Throughout the 80s and 90s, superhero movies were almost embarrassed to be about superheroes, forcing Batman into a lame revenge plot for the 1989 film and refusing to let Frank Castle wear his death’s head logo in the Cannon Films direct-to-video release. With the embrace of the genre has come better effects, brighter costumes, and outrageous plots that better reflect the high stakes the genre demands.

The Evil Cast graphic novel is now available from Ominous Media and Markosia! "Illustrated by Enrico Orlandi, creator of Dark Horse’s The Flower of the Witch, this indie-comic bathed in blood and self-awareness, follows fictional versions of Kyle and his longtime collaborator Noah Baslé (Ominous Media) as they find themselves caught up in a horror adventure filled with all the monsters and evil they previously thought to just be stories.
Whether it’s through the recreation of classic horror movie posters for each issue or the playful tribute and subversion of tropes, this is a must-read for fans of the genre; deaths are bloody, jokes are sharp, and horror easter eggs abound."
In our latest Q&a, Kyle Stück talks about the origins of the podcast, the move to comic books, challenges creating and indie comic book, and gives a tease of what's next:

In early 2020, we heard mention of an Alien vs. Predator anime series that had been made before the 20th Century Fox / Disney merger and never released. A few months ago, Joshua Izzo, who made Alien Day an official event while working at Fox, confirmed that an Alien vs. Predator anime series was produced, all ten episodes were completed, and now they’re just sitting in the Disney vault. Now the anime’s writers/consultants Dave Baker and Eric Calderon have revealed more details about the shelved series during an interview on the Best TV Never Made podcast!
The interview takes up two episodes, both of which can be found on the Best TV Never Made website. The show is hosted by Peter Holmstrom and Ryan Matsunaga.
Like Izzo said, the anime was originally envisioned as an adaptation of the Dark Horse Comics that followed the character Machiko Noguchi, and the...

Whoever wins, we lose. When Disney wins, however, everyone loses.
/Film reported back in May of 2023 that Disney, as part of its massive acquisition of 20th Century Fox in 2019, had inherited an already-complete 10-episode anime TV series based on the nerd-sating "Alien vs. Predator" series. The show's existence was confirmed by Joshua Izzo, the former director of licensing at 20th Century Fox, on the "Perfect Organism" podcast. Izzo said that the 10-episode series was complete, but that it was locked in a vault at Disney, hidden from public view. This is a common practice during mergers and management changes. The new administration as a film studio or record label, wanting to work solely on their own projects, will often shelve the previous administration's projects as a mode of keeping the slate clean. This means a lot of excellent art has never seen the light of day, or was released with so little fanfare,...

J. Michael Straczynski is getting into business with Dark Horse Comics. Straczynski will launch various creator-owned work with the publisher that will span graphic novels, miniseries and ongoing series.
Straczynski is a veteran of the genre space. On TV, he created Babylon 5 and co-created Netflix’s Sense8 with The Wachowskis. In comics, he has penned runs on The Amazing Spider-Man, Superman and Captain America. And in the feature film space, he has worked on World War Z, Thor and Changeling.
According to Straczynski, Dark Horse boss Mike Richardson has given him the mandate to write whatever he wants.

The first audiobook, Hellboy: A Plague Of Wasps, is scheduled for release at the end of the month and I had a chance to catch up with Christopher Golden to learn more about his experience telling new these stories in the Hellboy Universe:
You've written Hellboy comics and are the co-writer on the upcoming film. How did you first get involved with writing the three upcoming Hellboy audiobooks?
CG: I’d started working on a big audio project for another company, and it occurred to me that it would be really fun to create some new adventures with Hellboy in audio. At the same time, it turned out that more than one company had approached Dark Horse about the same thing. Graphic Audio had adapted Cemetery Girl, a trilogy of graphic novels...

We live in interesting times. At the movie theater right now, on one screen, you can see Michael Keaton beating up bad guys while in the Batman suit. On another, you can watch Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones beating up Nazis. Weirdly, both are not doing great at the box office. If you went this past weekend to check out Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny, you will know the film was littered with easter eggs and references. What did we uncover in this globetrotting adventure this time??
Warning!!!! There will be spoilers for Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny!
Wilhelm Scream

Embracer Group, the Swedish gaming conglomerate that snapped up the rights to “Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” in a surprise deal last summer, has finally revealed how much it paid — and it seems like they got a bargain.
The Karlstad-headquartered company has confirmed it spent Sek 4.2 billion — $395 million at today’s conversion rates — to acquire Middle-Earth Enterprises from the Saul Zaentz Company last August.
At the time the deal was announced, Embracer and Saul Zaentz declined to say how much the “Lord of the Rings” holding company had sold for. But estimates at the time projected the rights – which include worldwide rights to films, video games, board games, merchandising, theme parks and stage productions — were worth up to $2 billion.
It turns out the reality fell significantly short of that.
For contrast, Amazon is rumored to have paid $250 million alone for the rights to make the TV series “The Rings of Power,...

George Harrison was an incredible songwriter who shined with The Beatles and in his solo career. While he was a dedicated and hardworking musician, there were times when he wrote a quick single or performed a cover to get a hit record. George Harrison once released a holiday song he called the “quickest one I ever wrote.”

George Harrison wasn’t afraid of revealing the vulnerabilities and flaws in his music. In 1974, his marriage to Pattie Boyd was unraveling, and he struggled with alcoholism and drugs. While Harrison didn’t speak about this time often, he did write a song that expressed what he went through during this period.

Pattie Boyd and George Harrison married in 1966. Boyd experienced Beatlemania’s highs and lows and the band’s eventual downfall. She left Harrison in 1974, but the pair didn’t officially divorce until 1977. She then married Harrison’s friend, Eric Clapton, in 1979.

George Harrison created beautiful and experimental music with The Beatles. His best Fab Four songs are some of the greatest in the band’s catalog, and that happened despite his bandmates blocking his songwriting efforts from appearing on albums. The guitarist’s relationship with his fellow Beatles wasn’t always the best. You could say the same of Harrison’s personal life, such as the night in the late 1970s when George and Ronnie Wood swapped wives.

While John Lennon and Paul McCartney were in their own little world being one of the greatest songwriting partners in music, George Harrison and Ringo Starr were forging a perfect partnership of their own.
George helped Ringo with classic Beatles songs like “Octopus’s Garden.” Despite its strange time signature, Ringo knew how to enter “Here Comes the Sun” perfectly. The Beatles’ split did not affect their working relationship whatsoever. They continued collaborating as if nothing had happened.
Whenever George asked Ringo to play on one of his songs, he knew the drummer would do his best.

The “My Sweet Lord” singer explained that he always knew what he would get when he asked Ringo to appear in one of his songs during a 1987 interview.

Although she is getting a reputation as a real life ‘tank girl’ due to an unfortunate string of poorly performing films, actress and producer Margot Robbie's LuckyChap Entertainment continues to develop the futuristic live-action feature "Tank Girl", for director Miles Joris-Peyrafitte ("As You Are"), based on the Dark Horse 1988 Brit comic book series, created by Alan Martin and Jamie Hewlett, featuring Robbie (again) as a wise-cracking skank:
"...'Tank Girl', aka 'Fonzie Rebecca Buckler' drives a tank, which is also her home.
"She undertakes a series of missions for a nebulous organization before making a serious mistake and being declared an outlaw for her sexual inclinations and her substance abuse.
"On the run, she shares sexy, psychedelic and surrealist misadventures with her close friend, 'Booga', a mutant kangaroo..."
"Tank Girl" was released as a live-action feature in 1995, directed by Rachel Talalay, starring Lori Petty, Ice-t and Naomi Watts.

George Harrison said he didn’t need touring to boost his ego. As a seasoned professional who toured for many years during the height of Beatlemania, George was done with that part of his life. After his 1974 Dark Horse tour, his ego had been satisfied.

In The Beatles’ early days, they did a residency in Hamburg, Germany. George loved it. The group had to perform all night, and it was exhausting, but they honed their performance skills. They learned to improvise and be creative.
Then, The Beatles did touring circuits throughout the U.K. When their popularity skyrocketed in the U.S. and the world, The Beatles began touring throughout Beatlemania.
Suddenly, they couldn’t go anywhere without hoards of girls chasing after them and trying to pull fists...

There are many obscure George Harrison songs simply because the former Beatle made the music he wanted. He didn’t make music for the charts or the record companies. His career was haphazard. Here are 10 of the most obscure George Harrison songs.
The Beatles | Dave Hogan/Getty Images 10. ‘Be Here Now’
George liked living in the moment, so “Be Here Now” held a special place inside for him. It’s a very gentle song, almost spiritual. In his 1980 memoir, I Me Mine, George wrote that he almost fell asleep with his guitar in hand while writing the calming tune. The melody came fast, and a “funny” story called “The Transformation of Richard Alpert into Baba Ram Das” inspired the lyrics. The way George sings “be here now” sounds Indian.
9. ‘Deep Blue’
“Deep Blue” came to George while his mother was dying in 1970. Even George thinks it’s an obscure song...

There are a couple of great songs from The Beatles‘ solo careers with appearances by other Beatles. The Fab Four might’ve gone their separate ways in 1970, but that didn’t mean they were through working together in some way. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr just never appeared on anything together. Here are the top five Beatles solo songs that have appearances by other Beatles.

While George contributed slide guitar to John’s Imagine tracks “Gimme Some Truth” and “I Don’t Want To Be A Soldier,” electric guitar on “Oh My Love,” and dobro to “Crippled Inside,” his work on “How Do You Sleep?” is the most important and memorable.
Although George said it was “nerve-wracking, as usual,” working with John following The Beatles’ split, George...
