a decent comedy
corytrevorson17 May 2020
Not nearly as bad or as good as the extreme reviews make it out to be. It has some funny moments and was made well enough to hold your interest.

By far not what I expected.

I tried watching this on amazon but to be honest I just couldn't focus on it. It is either not my style a comedy - I am feeling grumpy after watching more than a third of it - or it is not in fact a comedy. It features a lot of talking but hardly any jokes. There is some bad language involved as well, which I haven't felt added much to the enjoyment of the film. The leading roles are not strong enough to keep my interest or funny enough to make me laugh. There were only a few places visited for the first half of the film and I stopped watching after this. It is only so much I can forgive a movie before I give up on it. This is only 1 of a few movies I stopped watching because of quality (or lack off).

All in all I was disappointed with this movie and can't help wondering how is this rated so high on here.

Enjoyed it

The acting was good. The main character and his "friend" Jimmy were very good. Also, shot well, clean set-ups and motivations. Maybe a bit repetitive, but it did not stop it from being entertaining. I liked the simple story, it allowed for character development and for comic situations with out getting complicated. I saw it on Youtube. Funny at times and I enjoyed it! I am a filmmaker and know how hard it is to pull off a low budget feature film. These guys did it. So, pop open a beer, sit back and don't take it at all serious and I think you have a good time watching this lesser known comedy film.

I made it an hour into this movie. Wasted time.

I kept hoping it would get better, but it didn't. If I wanted to watch losers talk idiotically and behave like morons, I would go to Walmart. What a waste of a movie. Slow moving and bad acting.

Strong future for Dir. Gregg Russell!

You are now entering THE SOUTH. Wellcome Ya'll! Represent! Strong actors, strong writing and a relate-able story. AND FUNNY. This film has wings and I think not only a star, but many stars, were born in its creation. Ya'll going' to Ya'll-y-WOOD honey - bless your heart.

It's a great film that captures southern culture, comedy and attitude. The acting is very strong and see a bright future for these actors. The writing is strong and I see a bright future for the director and crew. It's a cut throat industry, so great to see films being made that stay true to the creator's vision and great to see new talent really show their skills.

Hilarious!

A perfect depiction of Southern "good ole boys" and dysfunctional relationships. Typical how the main character kept screwing up his life and blaming everyone and everything but himself. There were some great laugh-out-loud moments.

The ones who left bad reviews obviously have never spent any time in the South, specifically Florida.

cute little gem

At the behest of my good buddy from the deep south, I gave this little indie a try, and am so glad I did. It's always awesome to come across fresh talent like the director/writer behind this, and the hilarious cast they assembled.

Whether you're familiar with this culture or not, y'all are gonna have a good time. A keenly southern -but very witty! - sense of humor, solid writing, memorable performances, and sharp direction mark this as a debut by a team with a fun future ahead of them.

One keeps hearing that Atlanta is fast becoming the Hollywood of the South, and finds like this lead me to believe it's true. Thanks to my southern buddy Doug for the rec!

made me laugh out loud

A Free Bird is a great movie! It had me laughing out loud at so many points throughout. The storyline is great, and the actors are all so well cast. There aren't any big names in this movie -- but you may recognize Tammy from the Starz show Magic City. She is great! Jimmy Bobo has got to be one of the best characters I have seen in a movie in a long time. The scenes with him are definitely among my absolute favorites in the whole movie. I love the craziness of these guys. And the best part is that you know there are people out there just like this. I think that's what makes it so funny. Watch this movie when you want to laugh. you definitely can't go wrong! A Free Bird is definitely one to keep around for future viewing.

Terrific Writing!
bobwfu8511 November 2014
I about peed in my pants during JT's encounter with the employment agent, and the actor who played the colorful, in-way-over-his-head Jimmy Bobo fellow was typecast for that role. Without giving away the central plot line, the concept of planning the heist without considering its spoil rate was genius, while at the same time showing the desperation (and ignorance) of the main characters, who despite their limited means, never seem to lack for smokes, booze and choice language. Oh, and we watched it a second time and picked up on even more of the hysterical irony. I look forward to more hilariously insightful films from Gregg Russell.
